    There is an adaptation, it is a game called The Lord of the rings Battle for middle-earth rise of the witch King. This game is incredibly fun. In the campaign mode or story mode you play as the witch Kings army then after that campaign you play as the good guys. As the witch Kings army you'll do things like attack Graves and corrupt them recruit goblins and trolls and then conquer some fortified cities.

    The Dunedain of the North, probably my favorite of all the Numenorean kingdoms. After such tragedy, they still went thru hardships in the wild to defend what remained of the realm and to protect the innocent people who still dwelt there. And if that wasn't enough, when their Chieftain and King Aragorn called, they rode off as probably the mightiest Knights and warriors in all Middle-Earth to rally to his banner. Such power in their few numbers was immediately recognized by King Theoden of Rohan.

    End result of the Angmar was a prryhic victory for Angmar as although the witch king was successful in destroying the former three kingdoms that comprised Arnor. His own army and kingdom was destroyed in the end too and never to re-emerge. While the peoples of the north would become the rangers of the north, from whose chiefdoms would descend Aragorn, the king who would reunite and restore Arnor and Gondor back to its former glory in the fourth age.

    • @Based_Witch_Hunter
      @Based_Witch_Hunter Рік тому +4

      I don't see it as a Pyrrhic victory for Angmar. The Destruction of Arnor in it's entirety cost Sauron nothing apart from his servants lives which are worthless anyway. The Witchking did not perish. Even the battle that forced the Witchking to flee would have cost The Elven-Gondorian Alliance precious lives, particulary the elves. If anything it was a crushing victory for the forces of Sauron.

    • @wedgeantillies66
      @wedgeantillies66 Рік тому

      @@Based_Witch_Hunter Certainly achieve the primarily goal of destroying the kingdom of Arnor. However, for me this isn't the be all and end all of the witch kings plan as suspect that after he destroyed Arnor would have gone after remaining strong elvish, dwarf and men realms still around in the northern part of middle earth and to not them out of the fight come war of the ring.
      However, with the destruction of Angmar and following destruction of all evil forces in the north in the war of the dwarves and orcs and battle of five armies later. Meant Sauron had to create a new entire new base and army from scratch in the north to attack and destroy his enemies there as part of his pincer attack, that never gets going past stage one because of strong realms of free peoples still existing there, that wouldn't have if Angmar hadn't been destroyed at Foerest.

    A good summary did you present, and it is a good story. Number One was truly a bane of kings. For a antagonist who had just a few lines, no real name and little of background I thin he is among the best and most compelling servant of a dark master in any fantasy.
    But I think you paint by far a too dark picture of how the rule of Sauron affected the lands. What you describe may fit for Mordor and the land near to it, but the men in the East and South did live under the shadow for centuries and their kingdoms were great, their number plentyfull and their courage and pride high - and in the end quite some of them stood true to Sauron even after his fall. So for his enemies Sauron and his servants were pure horror, but it was not their desire to just leave a barren land behind them for those who bend the knee.

    I think it would be a challenge to adapt the entire conflict, but it would be a cool setting for a show. In competent hands, I suppose you could try to tell the full story in a multi-season series with time jumps between the seasons. Still, considering the time span of the entire conflict, there wouldn't be a whole lot of character continuity among the humans, who I imagine would have to be the focus of the story.
    I think it would be a lot more feasible to use this war as a setting for a story; perhaps the events leading up to one of the battles.

      That is a good question. It may be that the seven were somehow made with the dwarves in mind (they were good in enlarging treasures if you have already some), and may not "work" so perfect with humans (since the humans who got a ring got more magic powers, strength in battle and as rulers as I understand it). So to speak the rings of humans and men were "customized" for the human or dwarven mind.
      Maybe he was satisfied with the Nine he had and though he did not need additional servants or did not trust the rings after they failed the first time.
      And we know that he offered the rings he reclaimed to the dwarves of Erebor shortly befor the War of the Rings so maybe he - knowing very well how long dwarves could cling to "their" treasure - thought they might a good bargain chip in the future...

    Is that how Arvedui is pronounced (4 syllables)? I always assumed it was pronounced in 3 syllables, Ar-ve-dwi, but I never checked.
    If Glorfindel was really making a prophecy, then does that mean he saw that a hobbit and a woman would bring down the witch king? I wonder if he mentioned that to Elrond or Gandalf at Rivendell. And why would he word it that way in the first place? But if he didn't see that specifically, then he wasn't seeing the future at all, so why was it a prophecy? It was at that point still possible that a man would find the specially magicked sword and kill the witch king with it.
    When I first read where the prophecy came from, it seemed weird to me for everyone to take one elve's comment as an inviolable prophecy. It was just his opinion, if that. He was trying to talk Earnur down from doing something foolish. You read these things in books and wonder why on earth people think someone saying something makes it absolute truth. In real life, people do even worse, reading "prophecies" into things that were never prophecies in the first place. A lot of back-engineered "fulfillment." It's a really weird feature of human minds.

    Ok so maybe I’m overthinking it but am I the only one who thought it was rather strange that in the fellowship of the ring that when Merry and pippin set off Gandalfs dragon firework and Frodo says to Bilbo to watch out for the dragon. Bilbo say in response “Dragon? Nonsense there hasn’t been a dragon in these parts for a thousand years.” That made me ask ok what Dragon or Dragon’s were flying around the lands of the Shire so long ago? Hopefully someone in the community can help me discover the answer to this question.

      If it had been one single all-out war, you're definitely right, but there must have been very long periods of low-level skirmishes. I would bet the plague brought almost a complete stop to the fighting. Angmar, being located so far north, could never by itself support enough of a population and army to destroy Arnor. They would need time to recover, and mercenaries and subject peoples of Rhovanion and further east would be necessary to swell the ranks. The Dúnedain in Arnor, meanwhile, kept diminishing in number and lifespan. The grind was real.

    I would LOVE to see a real live adaptation, but looking at the Rings of Power I fear that some big company would only make a cash-grab of it. Good writing seems to be a lost skill in Hollywood resp. the motion picture industry.

    I’m very weary of any movie or tv adaptions ever being made again. Not in the climate Hollywood is in now. An Anime would be awesome. But the West has lost touch with what fans want.

      You know… me personally I wouldn’t mind if they threw in a lot of woke stuff in this time period of middle earth. Arnor was supposed to be advanced, but in their wisdom they became fools and lost to darkness. So if Hollywood ever tried virtue signaling with the numinorians of arnor while the witch king is slaughting everyone, it would kind of make sense why their teachings and progress and foolishness was lost to the rest of middle earth.

    Of all the stories outside of LotR and The Hobbit to adapt to a live action movie or series I've always thought this would be thee best story in all of Tolkien lore to attempt. They NAILED LotR but missed on The Hobbit. While not great, The Rings of Power isn't as bad as everyone pretends it is but I Very much hope the Angmar War gets a chance some day.
    The stories I hope they leave alone are the high myth tales from the early Silmarillion. I just don't think there's a good way to do creation myths or epic Godly battles justice in live action. The War of Arnor, however, would be thee perfect story to rival a Game of Thrones style adaptation. The only other story that may have been better in this regard was The New Shadow, but Tolkien never ended up writing it.
