I'm definitely envious of the Commonwealth mint omnibus stamps. If you ever decide you don't want them, my birthday's in March. 😀 And yes, I would say that these and the folder of mint miniature sheets and blocks were a bargain. (You'd probably pay more than $8 for the folder and pages alone, let alone for the contents.)
01:26 This is a complete omnibus collection of the 28 stamps issued for the British West Indies Community College (now the University of the West Indies). The lower value stamps all bear the arms of the university while the higher value stamps show Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone in her academic garb. She was the chancellor of the university from its foundation in 1948 until 1971, so a pretty good run. There is also a Canadian connection here as she was the Chatelaine of Rideau Hall while her husband was Governor General of Canada from 1940 to 1946.
Despite the fact that the University was inaugurated in 1948, the stamps were only issued in 1951.
02:29 These are from the Victory omnibus issue of 1945-1946. The stamps show a view of the Houses of Parliament from across the Thames with a cameo of King George VI. The omnibus series consists of 2 stamps of the same design, though there were also a number of 'omnibus' issues that consisted of stamps (often, but not always definitives, that were overprinted 'Victory') with different designs (for example from Great Britain, South Africa, New Zealand, Zanzibar, etc.). According to my trusted ancient Stanley Gibbons Catalogue, there were 164 stamps in total in the Victory omnibus issue, but this figure also includes the stamps with designs other than the common design type. I'm not sure how many of the common design types there were, but quite a few.
I would definitely pay more than $5 for these.
06:27 This is the Portuguese Europa miniature sheet from 2008. The theme for the year was Integration of Immigrants as Seen Through the Eyes of a Child. As well as the miniature sheet with 2 stamps, there was another different stamp that was issued in normal sheets. Similar items were also issued for the Azores and Madeira.
06:45 This sheet was issued for the millennium of Austria, though you probably worked that out yourself.
07:48 This 2007 miniature sheet from North Korea was a joint issue with Russia.
Another great video, Rob. Thank you.
Thank you Stephen. Interesting to learn the Canadian connection to the University as well. I am glad I got a good deal. Lets just see if the box is as good a deal coming up.
A super buy at $13. Congratulations. I collect BC omnibus issues, the 1935 & 1937 coronation issues mainly but the others as well. You really scored with this purchase.
Thank you and thanks for watching
$13.00 was a great buy, super. Nothing special but they are beautiful.
Thank you for watching and the comment
The British omnibus are some of my favourite British stamps. Great collection
Wonderful thank you
The mint omnibus stamps are beautiful!!!! I am sure these stamps are already more worth than the $13? you paid for everything you showed. In the binder I liked the stamp blocks the most. I am sure they are of good value as well. But, apart from everything, lots of joy for you and for us that share in it through the video. 🙂🙂🙂Thanks, Rob!!!!!! Now just that box. I am looking forward to see what is in there.
Heehee stay tuned lol
Though the binder with the souvenir sheets didn't really interest me, the inclusion of the British blocks and the stamps towards the back of the binder wasn't bad so it was kind of worth it. The Omnibus stamps were a different story. Totally jealous that you got that for only $5. What a steal. Great pick up. 👍
Thank you. I guess there is a little for everyone to hopefully enjoy :)
Interesting story. Thanks.
Thanks for watching
Very good price for such a nice mints stamps. They are gorgeous.
Thank you for the comment
Beautiful stamps
Thank you
Gtreat start on a new British Omnibus collection in its own binder. My favorrite British omnibus issue is the Silver Wedding. I have all of them except the two expensive ones- Singapore and Hong Kong. You did great on the souvenir sheets. The first 30 years of my collecting I had absolutely no interest in souvenir sheets. In fact I thought that they were a collector rip off. Well about 6 years ago I decided that since I see them all over and all the dealers have them that I would start. I only collect up through 1969 and I figured that there could not be that many of them- maybe a couple hundred and I could deal with that. After 6 years up through 1969 I now have over 1,500. Lesson learned- the next time I start to collect something I will check out how many there really are. Lol!
Wow your collection must be amazing. When you collect you really to collect don’t you. Heehee
