- In this video covering the thinnest swatch watch, I do a full Swatch skinflag review; covering all aspects of the piece. This is part of the skin irony range and boasts the ultra-thin side profile shown in the thumbnail. Is it better than the previous ones I reviewed? Let's find out.

I still have swatch watches that I bought in the 80/90s.. Just a change of battery and they continue to keep perfect time.. I think for the money I have spent over the years they have always served me well... You also have admire the huge variety of designs they continue to produce..
Swatch was such a powerhouse in the 90s: cool ideas, collaborations, commemorative models, technical newground up to the 9s. Modern Swatch does okay, is certainly still doing things right (such as having fun, casual boutiques, or innovating in it's automatic offerings), but cannot hold a candle to 90s Swatch.
Doubt that they kept perfect time even when they were new
Indeed, I have various Swatch watches from the 90s and they work.
Me too, I have one from 1985 working. They also have the system 51 mechanical watch. In this case Ben does not know jack.
@@donquique1 disagree, bought a swatch a couple years ago, within a couple of years the seconds hand fell off (naturally this cannot be fixed since the case is sealed). Would not recommend.
Skinflag, wow. They really need to rename it.
It’s called the Irony. Skin flag is a nickname
Definitely agree. Not an attractive name whatsoever.
@@BobMuir100 no, 'Irony' and 'Skin' are lines of Swatch watches. Ironys have a steel 'case' (with the structural insides possibly still being acrylic) and Skins are just slimmer than regular 'Gents' IIRC. www.swatch.com/en-gb/skinflag-syxs114/SYXS114.html
Skinflag is its actual model name, and all Swatch Models have an individual, no-numbers name like that.
@@MJFallout : sorry I am now educated thanks.
As they a little knowledge is dangerous! Sorry for my error and go ahead enjoy my embarrassment.
At least they did not call it The Skintag....
Fixed second hand in accuracy by getting rid of second hand, I nearly died.
4:47 reading the newspaper? Oh no that is just the Swatch manual.
Another great video, Ben. 👍
6:24 - Spot on! I have looked at Swatches multiple times to find a slim 37/38mm. Never could.
I own this as the Q series. The watch itself isnt discontinued. They only release it in other style variants. However you hit the nail with this review ;) Great job!
I've never been the biggest fan of Swatch. That being said, I can see where their following is coming from, collectible and novelty pieces.
I am a histopathologist and I can see myself writing skinflag on one of my patient's reports. A skin flag measuring 30x20x5mm with a raised dial covering the whole of the right wrist. Microscopical examination shows quartz movement with a widespread ..... Anyway, what a name!
Thanks for sharing it Ben, added to wish list in amazon 😬✌
i have one of the plastic swatches and i kinda like it . light as a feather , durable and even fairly waterproof with a piece of tuck tape over the battery hatch . especially as i paid like 5 dollars for it .
I disagree strongly with your qualms about Swatch's price point. You seem to be forgetting that they're Swiss made. This makes their labor overhead significantly higher than a Chinese sweatshop worker who's literally beaten into working 16 hour shifts, 7 days a week. When you take into consideration that they're made using fair labor, that makes the price of these watches far more reasonable.
If you keep making good vids like this, your channel gonna fly high ALSO please make vids on signet rings and Bracelets, maybe like a 4 min vid or somma on each ring or bracelet
I love the cut-ins! Pause… In the world! 😂
Ngl that name really puts my skinflag at half mast.
Solid vid
So I've just flown to Munich from Manchester Airport. What did I see Manchester Airport duty free a Swatch Skin Brushed SYXS102 Fleigher dial. It's discontinued but what a beauty!
The world's largest manual. ;-) Made my day.
Yeah I ain’t paying 100 bucks for a “disposable” watch you’re right Ben
They start at well below £100 so guessing below $100 as well? And I would spend 100 on a disposable item, all depends on your view point? Would you spend $70.000 on a watch?
Me neither. For the money I can buy a G-shock that will last decades.
@@MrPleers : yeah you can but that’s a different type, style of watch, so is there a comparison? Would someone with £100 to spend be looking at both?
I have the same but with brown leather strap. Very precise and has great case. You can find the same model but with different straps in the current catalog.
Dont know about these thin models, and I´m not a big fan of the really noisy plastic models, but I had a Swatch Irony for around 12 years. Wore it ... maybe half the time, so quite a lot. It works perfectly, looks good, had to change the battery twice and the leather strap once.
Wow - thanks! Looks good and no second hand.
A leather strap, and this would be a very good dress watch, perfect both at the office and at a wedding. Very interesting. Worth considering.
Comparing this SWATCH with DW...oh my!!! If I have to choose one : SWATCH all the way ! I agree with you about the "bad" or maybe "non existant" marketing strategy. Maybe they think "we are SWATCH, everybody on earth knows us. We are Swiss hu hu"... Ok BUT there is no solid communication about products... And I'm french near Switzerland ! The last time I've seen something about Swatch, it was about one automatic model and a 007 collection... and that's all. I love swatch watches even if they are a bit expensive. Don"t forget it's a Swiss product and not a cheap chinese product with poor quality control. By the way great vid ! Cheers.
Hey ben, recently started watching your Chanel, and found the solar Seiko really nice. It seems that the price has risen sinds your video. Any tips on how to obtain it at a fair price?
I like the look of a Swatch but everyone I've had has broken cracked cases, chronograph not working, crowns falling off so I can't bring myself to getting another but it's a good review.
I actually just the 2Q recently and I actually quite love it. The slimness is awesome and I love the open gear is a neat thing in my opinion. The leather strap is meh. Haven't had too many issues but planning to buy a replacement because you never know. Not to mention I'm a huuuuge fan of James Bond, my favourite character being Q so it's a nice plus. Even if it weren't for the Q I'd still consider buying a slim iron personally. Yet again I've only had this watch for a small period of time. It's been preforming as expected
totally agree returned a plastic swatch just last week
Just like I said in the last video, you reviewed wrong swatches. You should look for irony chronos(YVS444G) or Aluminium diver swatches(scuba 200). Good review as usual. Thanks!
I still have the same swatch my wife , then girlfriend bought me in 1994! Still work fine. Of course there maybe better watches out there for the money but each to their own.
Thank you I love your video's and there a little dangerous😂I have bought so many Casios😅😎
Got the Q Bond watch. Awesome.
Ben,
Thanks for this great video. It would be great if you review the System 51 Automatic models from Swatch. As far as I know, 99% of Swatch watches are quartz. But they have a few automatic ones that are affordable.
Question for Swatch owners: Do the hour and minute hands line up? I bought the Casio version of this watch 2 years ago and the hour and minute hands were so irritatingly off sync that I simply refused to wear it, and now it sits in my dresser with a dead battery... :( I want a watch like this, but the hands need to line up...
I recently got a swatch stalefish from '91 for only £32. I love the crazy faces.
I must confess, I just ordered the Swatch SKINNAVY Unisex Watch (Model: SS07S102) - it will be the first Swatch watch I have ever owned- I like the slim design and metal case and it will be the first in my conservative collection.
I bought a Swatch about 10 years ago, and it not only got a lot of positive comments for the style, it kept good time and it still looks pretty good. I don't wear it anymore as I have better watches and my tastes have changed, but all I can say is that my Swatch served me well.
which one is it?
@@wildreams the model is called Black Lacquered
@@nineteenninetyfive Thanks so much!
Lol I love swatches coz they’re dope. Disposable, I got my first swatch at 16, still have it at 30. Have bought many since and will continue t do so. Gotta diversify fellas.
Except for the loud strap, loved the design, though not sure about the steep price it comes for. Pretty similar to the Titan's Edge series, ultra slim(slimest quartz and now mechanical too), pricey, but looks and feels good, though some of them seem a tad too small for standard wrist size
I actually like this one. Just gotta check the price in my country.
I have a timex weekender. I washed some dishes while wearing my timex and accidentally got it wet. The water ruined the watch immediately. I also have a swatch "once again." 55 bucks. ( a little more than the timex ) It's water resistant to 30 meters. ( same battery compartment as the swatch you just reviewed but completely plastic ) I can shower with it and wash it in hot and water and its fine. My point is I think some swatches are more durable then we may think. I do agree for fun watches they are a little pricey. My Seiko costs about the same as many swatches and is clearly more bang for the buck regarding durability and looks in some cases. I do like swatches because they cater to my wrist size with many options available. I wish this big watch craze would end soon. I can't go any bigger than a 38.
At first i used to be hatin swatch watches. But when see the complex model (musicall, cofee break, dive meter one) i just went banana addicted.
It’s got quartz movement but the complication is amazing the ticking is similiar to mechanical watch also just imagine a mechanical quartz depth meter watch. Even the stop watch version felt like designed well. It’s pretty cheap too if u buy it secondhand and get the older vintage model
just wondering if you' would make a video telling us the best overall budget watch.
im been wanting to buy one just have no idea which one :)
I love the Jeremy Clarkson (The Grand Tour) reference 0:56
Solid slam on the like button for the Jeremy Clarkson bit! He's an genius!
this might be a killer swatch, if they just went for a more neutral strap option. or build in regular lugs that allow people to switch straps.
I just wanna ask do anybody know a swatch model that include the red cross beside it with a minimalist design like this one preferably with white dial. Thank you
Since you like thin watches, I’m surprised you haven’t looked into the Cartier Tank yet, although I know you’re more into budget watches.
My first watch was a Swatch, I still have a few of them and they are still fun to wear. I just couldn't put Swatches in a category with Daniel Wellington or that sort of thing, they are better than that.
They're great starter watches for teenagers (says he who still owns his Swatches from back in the day). But if you're in your 30s and unironically wearing a Swatch as a daily driver, you need to look at your life choices. Still less cringe than DW, but cringe nonetheless.
Their skins range is nice.... just waiting for them to make an automatic sistem 51 in a skin case- that would be a showstopper.
I bought a blue sunburst dial, fine brushed case and decent Leather Strap, white hands and indexes....
i'd still prefer a mis-aligning moving seconds hand than no seconds. hope they'd release a model with seconds hand and a less funky strap
How to know the level of the battery with only 2 hands ?
I had a couple of Swatches in the late 1980s/early 1990s when I was a youngster but would not want one now. The plastic straps were a pain because they did not last and you could not get like-for-like replacements, ruining the look of the watch (which defeats the object of buying one in the first place). That battery compartment is fragile as well and the seal prone to water ingress from everyday exposure to water, e.g. hand washing. There are so many better options out there.
I agree with everything in this review and that is rare for any watch channel! I love Swatches. They are fun fashionable watches and there are so many models in their current and back catalog that there is a Swatch out there for anyone. I wonder if Swatch will continue their free battery change policy in the post-pandemic world because that makes for a more carefree lifetime ownership experience.
you should review the swatch sistem 51 ,ground breaking watch when it first came out in about 2014 ,fun automatic
Nice watch
I got a very similar model to this as a gift. Instead of a second hand ticking away, if you look very carefully, the minute hand moves once every five or ten seconds (I don't have it in front of me). I think this will reduce wear and make the battery last a really long time. It feels solid unlike most other Swatches although the mineral crystal feels thin and easily breakable. The plastic Sistem51 annoys me- it's super cheaply made out of super cheap materials yet we are supposed to pay UP for the technological advancements that made this crappy watch. Just because...they're Swiss or something? The Japanese have been making cheap automatics for decades and they are built like tanks. Like you, I don't like the idea of a watch costing more than about $40 being considered disposable. Also, you often see old Swatches for sale at flea markets and such...the plastic really doesn't hold up all that well. They always look kind of yellowed to me.
My problem with splash proof only watches is that most of my watches are good to 100 or 200 meters. I am used to hopping in the pool, shower or hot tub with them on, so when I wear a splash proof watch I hop in pools, showers and hot tubs without a thought.
Hi. Hope your well. Check out the armitron rubik. It looks like the watch we are all waiting for from casio....expensive to get delivered to Ireland.....but thinking of it
This was a Christmas 2018 launch. Still out in Canada though - but $200.
Share your general thoughts on the brand, but this one seems to be a bit different. I am glad youre not biased but judge these watches for themselves.
This is not available on NL and DE Amazon :(
One more time Swatch proved one don't need to change the world to make affordable good looking watch
I like it....good review Ben. Swatch 2Q is on my list. Anyone got one? Any good?
Have a look at Titan watches, founded in India 1984, they are leading watch manufacturer and seller in India.
They have line-up called 'Edge' as thin as 3.6mm. Thier Edge ceramic is about 4.5mm thik, thinnest ceramic.
Paying $50 for a swatch is for nostalgia.. These are the watches I wore in grade school with neon cage dial protectors on. And it's for a 90's look.
I grew up with my dad buying me a few Swatches when I was 11. I like Swatch, but I absolutely hate that they have proprietary watch straps. And that's the primary reason I'll never buy a new one, no matter how classy or stylish they may be.
I’ve had a few skin tags. I just cut them off with wire cutters.
HI, Ben. I really like your video's, could you review the
Swiss Military by Chrono SMP36040.05 please?
What is the model number of this watch
Still rocking a working og gent swatch from 1987. 😊
You should check out the Citizen Stiletto if you like thin watches.
I have a Swatch Irony that I got in 1998. Still runs brilliantly. Think its time for another. Good review 👍
please do a review on casio edifce era 300db blue color one
I mean, it's nice and all, but I have to ask the obvious question: "Why would anyone spend almost $200 on this despite the plethora of better watches in that price range?". I think the vast majority of people would rather have, for example, an Orient Bambino instead of this, no?
@@avensCL sound like you are talking about a MVMT watch. Both are overpriced and looks cheap.
The orient bambino is cheap because it is not made in Switzerland…
Lmfao these watches are “supposed to be for fun”? Aint nothing fun about getting ripped off 😂 yall overpaying for a plastic mcdonalds watch
OMG, for fun I pulled up Swatch's Canadian site and they want $200.- for this thing. Two. Hundred. Bucks. I can't even!
"plastic", the watch is made of metal..
"ripped off", the watch is about 80 quid
"overpaying", a new swiss watch for 100€ is overpaying?
"not fun" you look a bit grumpy in your profile photo, maybe that's why.
Nice
Hahahahaha! Great Jezza!
This style in this model (two different things) has not be discontinued. It's still on the Swatch website, along with many other styles in this model. If something says discontinued on Amazon, it really means nothing in terms of the actual product availability.
Swatch does discontinue styles all the time, with ALL their models, since they began in 1984... they discontinue a certain style, then they release new looks of each MODEL. So this MODEL of watch (Skin Irony) is going strong, and they even have to diameters to choose from now.
And they are of higher quality, and last way longer, than most people are hinting at here. I have Irony models and even plastic models, that are in amazing shape and still working 20 years later. And the crystal on this model is mineral, not plastic.
I’ve got 6 irony’s they’re great and keep time well
Not bad but at that price point it's possible to get a discounted Citizen Stiletto which will be even thinner, come with a classier looking strap or bracelet, better finishing and eco-drive.
do one on their swatch MINIMAL LINE BLUE
I wasn't a fan of the brand. Trust me, I wasn't even considering them. But today I bought SS07S106G. On my opinion, this is the best looking and functional watch out there. It's not easy to find simple and easy to read watch, that doesn't cost more than 300€ and it's slim. Color is amazing. The only downside of this wach is the strap. But you can buy another one with a proper lock, or a silicon one. It looks also nice on a big wrist.
Please review - 'titan edge'. They put to shame a lot of swiss watches and is one of the slimmest watch ever made
Nice Clarkson edit there haha! I doubt the strap 'houses' the buckle though. No biggie, just sayin'. Keep up the funny side!
I hadn’t seen those 38mm st. steel thin Swatches yet but I dig them for sure!
After almost 40 years of hearing about disposable Swatches, today I finally started to wonder: what do people do when a Swatch wears out? Do they actually dispose of them, throw them into the rubbish? Keep them to look at but no longer to wear? Some of each? I have to learn about Swatches now because I found out a friend of mine likes them. (But, yes, I don't yet feel comfortable asking him whether he throws them away. Yes, I suppose that is sort of strange.)
Even straps not replaceable 😂
In practice it’s probably something most Swatch buyers will never really have to consider. Swatches are unexpectedly robust, to the point where you can easily find large amounts of decade-old working samples.
Nice take on the slim SWATCHes. Now take a look at their SKIN IRONY sub-series watches and prepare for a surprise... ;)
Side note: I own a Skin Ligot (SYXG100GG) and couldn't be happier with it!
I haven't watched it yet, but my prediction is: yes!
Wish the hour hand was a bit longer. Also I would prefer a second hand.
Ben, how long have you been collecting watches?
eee...
I haven't owned a swatch since 1983 . Swatch watch make me feel very nostalgic.
The problem with these watches is that they look very silly on my wrist I love the colors they are Cocaine Cool .
I've never been a fan of Swatch. I remember their height of popularity in the 80's and 90's and I didn't care for them much then either. Back in the day they were sort of a yuppie's watch and I was more into the geek favorite casio.
As Swatch’s go, this is not bad. Still not gonna buy one though 😋
My thoughts exactly. OK for a Swatch but I'll be sticking with Seiko thanks.
I loved the Jeremy Clarkson reference
What is your problem against silicone?? Maybe some people just like the sports looks that it gives. I mean you cannot judge a watch based o its looks.
+ Swiss Made, variety of fun colors available.
- Pricey for a basic inexpensive\cheap watch. No second hand, no lume, limited replacement options with its proprietary strap design.
Still love Casio! :)
Yeah no yeah, the plastic swatches where advertised as the beater watch back in the 80’s and 90’s. The you can trow them against the wall and they keep ticking attitude.
But this swatch you now reviewed looks much better.
