    Swatch gives us a chance to lighten up. We all love our horological wonders, but sometimes it’s just plain fun to strap on a Swatch. And the Sistem 51 is a marvel!

    Thanks Armand, that was a great perspective that I never gave any thought to. I now will view the Swatch watch more seriously.

    I totally agree with you. Moreover, during the recession we are facing and going to face, Swatch might be the best Swiss made watch achieveble for quite some time.

    Nice to see the admiration for this watch in your video!
    I also have the Once again for about a year now. I just love how simple it is. Because of the weight you also don't feel it when wearing it, so I use mine mostly in the evening after a day of a "heavy" diver on my wrist.
    Planning on buying a few fun coloured ones, because i will never regret it for this price!

    I've had this swatch for a few years now I love it! bought it at the Montreal swatch store. Everytime I wear it i'm reminded of that trip! Also interestingly the once again is also the watch the current pope wears!

    Bought my Fiancée one, ticks so loudly it keeps her awake 🤣... Not a fan of the straps, but I'll end up with a sistem 51 irony one day no doubt.
    Good they saved the Swiss watch industry or we'd loose some great brands that we aspire to own (eg Omega etc)
    Cheers Mate, stay healthy everyone 👍🏻👍🏻

    Well done, great job of providing a succinct review of the importance of Swatch to not only the Swiss-based industry but wrist watches in general. You don't have to be a fan of these basic Swatches to appreciate what they've accomplished over the years.

    Some of us are old enough to know a classic 34mm Swatch is the greatest modern Swiss watch. I've had at least one working gent Swatch since the 80s, alongside the F91W they are the most iconic watch of modern times.
    I have a couple of cool automatic divers, I have a vintage Omega DeVille, but ultimately a classic 34mm Swatch or F91W is the better daily.

    When I was a boy in the 1990's, my aunt liked to take my brother and I out once a year for shopping and other fun things. One year she bought us Swatch watches. Mine was a chronograph that used the standard three hand set for the chronograph function, then would set back to regular time after the hands whizzed around the dial a few times. It had a great effect. I would love it if someone out there can tell me what model that was. Thank you Mr. Chronicler for shedding light on this wonderful time piece.

      C. W. When you said “When I was a boy in the 1990’s...” You made me feel old. I was born in 1982 and usually I don’t hear people my age say “when i was a boy in the 1990’s...” lol. I was expecting “when i was a boy in the 1950’s...” 😎. Or when it is someone my age “yo dude back in the day...”

    2:25 - talking about how the Delirium movement used the case itself as a baseplate. Picked up my 33-year-old Swatch that my parents sent to me just last week and looked into its translucent caseback... Ohhh, that explains how it's mounted inside, and why it has so much fewer parts.

  • @mRahman92
    @mRahman92 5 місяців тому

    Does a lot more than the "bare minimum". It has a little magnifying window for the DAY and DATE.
    You want the bare minimum, you go to the Casio MQ24.

    1. Never forget that Swatch is a " disposable watch" in the first place.
    2. When I ask the Swatch dealer to fix my Swatch I was shocked to find out that they will never do . Just polish the glass and resize the bracelet.
    3. Shouldn't they warn you before you buy it that it's disposable and can't be opened ?
    4. Free battery change is not true . Where I live they charge about 8 $ for that ( in the neighboring country they do ) .
    5. Just like the old Timex watches , it is not collectable at all. Few years down the line the plastic gears will melt ; the outer rubber will decay and you will end up with a watch that cannot be fixed : personal experience.
    6. Definitely way overpriced for what it is.

    • @mikeontherock
      @mikeontherock 3 роки тому +4

      First off a 5 year old child could change the battery so you don't have to spend $8 on it. Secondly, yes it's disposable because they won't fix it but I've had one similar to the one in this video for 30 years. It's scratched up but still works perfectly fine.

      James Ho You actually can! Non-branded silicone straps are available for around $3. The measurement is based on lug width, not strap width (which is wider).

    I wonder if swatch was japanese would it have the same apreciation that it has.

    • @LJ-wo1wf
      @LJ-wo1wf 4 роки тому +1

      If Swatch was Japanese it wouldn't have injected much-needed money into the Swiss watchmaking industry. (but to continue on to why "Swiss" matters for prestige, it's both simpler and more complicated; simpler because the Swiss simply said they're more prestigious, and more complicated because there's an undercurrent of nationalistic rivalry)

    Unless you blindly follow the masses and pray at the alter of “iconic watches.” we all have different taste, style.

  • @roygardiner2229
    @roygardiner2229 4 роки тому

    No, it may be cheap but, forgive me, it's nasty, too. The dial is nice and clear but that is certainly not true of all, even most, Swatch models.
    "Steel is real", as we say in cycling circles. It develops a patina that plastic does not.

    This, I guess, is an example of 'Counterfactual History'. That is trying to divine what would have happened if a certain person or organization had not existed. This kind of thing isn't rated highly by most Historians or Philosophers these days.
    It's attraction is that it makes for a good story but not for much else.
    No-one knows what would have happened if Swatch had not appeared, and therefore it's impossible to say if things would have been better today (whatever that means).
    There wouldn't have been a Swatch Group it's fairly safe to say, so; to quote Robert Louis Stevenson:
    'Put that in your pipe my Lord Otto and smoke it'.
