I’m from Chicago and our lunch room cookies will always be legendary!
The aroma from the cafeteria when the lunch ladies baked cookies made us so happy.
Y'all pray for my great grandfather and my grandson, they have covid-19. She is 6 months old 🙏🙏
Can't wait to try
I will make soon.😊
You can also use a glass with a pattern, or a juice reamer, or anything with a pattern to make look a little more special.
I grew up in Chicago, and we used to get these in high school, back in the 70’s. I remember watching the cafeteria ladies making these.
I will vouch for how amazing they are! Excellent choice!
My husband said we were going to weigh 500 lbs if I didn't stop making all these recipes lol!
Oh I love cookies!!! These look yummy. Come see my heart cake and my cookie brownies with my grandson. It was so fun 😊. We always celebrate Valentine’s Day about Gods love -not the way the world pushes it!! It’s really a great day 😬. Lord bless Darlene.
We do the same thing and make it about God's love for us and the love He makes possible in our lives towards others!!!🥳❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Just subscribed. 💕😊Melinda
@RosesRBleu. That’s so wonderful to hear! I wish the world would catch on to that❤️. Come visit me on Souper at 60 sometime. Love to have you. I adore Leslie AND her hubby!!!!
Just made these, I added fresh lavender infused into my butter and lemon extract.
These are my husband’s favorite!
They’re famous. There was a time it was better to ask for the recipe to KFC than ask for Chicago’s Public School Butter Cookies! My mother in law went to the school and begged for it! They gave it to her and I’ve had it ever since. My husband went to school there before he went to private school. Love your show!
💕💕
Was this the recipe
I grew up eating these. They used to cost 10 cents a cookie (a pretty big one) when I was in grammar school. I learned how to make them because they are amazing!
Edit as I watch the video...the cookies were always patted with 2-3 fingers making the cookie have grooves. They come out looking very rustic.
That's how they were made with three finger imprint on each cookie. They're delicious!
Im from chgo a lived there in dolton now live in corbin.ky 30 yrs
Please pray for me 1/24/226 years ago today I lost my oldest son he was only 36. So to day has been very hard. I have to keep telling my self he's at peace no more pain with God. It's like that song I'm jealouse of the angles tonight he is with them.
Oh Susan I am so very sorry! I will surely pray
Oh no! You never put sugar on top of these cookies! The flour is for the ice cream scooper and your three fingers! Also, we use unsalted butter, always & McCormick Pure Vanilla Extract! Once the dough is on the cookie sheet, you take your three middle fingers and press them into the top of the dough! Try it again and let me know how they turn out! By the way, I went to Herbert Spencer Public School! Hugs and blessings!
The three fingers is mandatory...lol. I make these every year for our Christmas cookie swap at Church. I have doubled the recipe and use powder sugar and regular sugar. I add almond extract and vanilla. They taste just like home, I am once again transformed back to my school years!!!
Lemon Thins. I loved them!

I was thinking the same thing!
Can't wait to try these with a lemon flavor! Enjoy your videos.
I am making these cookies this week. Im thinking about adding almond extract. Thank you for a lovely video and recipe.
OMGoodness. Yes to almond extract. Our wedding cake was white with almond extract in the cake and the frosting.
I haven’t even watched the video yet and I already know it’s a good one. I love your channel !
Those cookies look so good! And you’re right the possibilities are endless 😁❤️🙏
The extra 2 tsp of flour is to go in your flour. With you putting the sugar on top they should be called sugar butter cookies.
I love me some butter cookies so I can't wait to try this one. I keep picturing two of them sandwich together with Nutella between them. Yum yum!
Love the recliner 💓

My high school lunch ladies made a big version of these and put almond and vanilla extract in them. So addictive!!!

These sound like a delicious cookie. Sugar cookies are my 2nd favorite cookie, after chocolate chip. We are cookie lovers in our house. ♥️
Always enjoy your channel. You guys are real & down to earth. I love making new recipes! You have given me several to try out.
Cookies looked good and so easy to whip together, the additional 2 tbsp of flour was optional,if the dough was too sticky.💕💜💕
I've made these several times since you posted this video a month ago. They're SO GOOD. Next Christmas, I'll be adding these to my gift cookie tins because I like them better than my shortbread recipe. Thanks so much for posting this recipe. :)
Sugar cookies are my favorite ... I will be trying these !
I live in the Chicago area. These cookies are FAMOUS here!
Wow, this looks great! Thanks for sharing, friend. Let's stay connected!

OK - you got me with the 1-2 punch. The cookies and your new recliner made me a subscriber(of course, your personality & beautiful smiling face, too) I've been shopping for a recliner for over 2 months now. I'm confined to home, so naturally it's been online. The one I love is over $1,800 so I keep looking.
Yes Leslie...they were nabisco brown edge wafers. Growing up they were my family’s favorite cookies!!!
I'm from Chicago and had these cookies in high school everyday with a Bubble Up soda!
Hello and thanks for sharing those cookies it's 11pm on Wed Feb 10 oh wow watching you make those cookies I want an espresso coffee right now ☕ Making them tomorrow.
A fan from Australia ❤🇦🇺🌹
I baked these yesterday
Pitch, pitch me a couple I got my coffee 🤣🤣🤣
Can’t wait to try these! Sound like a shortbread cookie!😍
They are. It's a very simple butter flavor with a hint of almost coconut, but the texture is perfect. It has that crumbly, crunchy buttered flour texture.
💗watching in Chickamauga 🥰
Since there butter cookies you can put any flavorings in them and also color them
You are right, lemon extract would be wonderful! Love your video's.
Love your videos watched an episode on no bake cookies love them when i lived in tennessee we called them cow patties
Hello Miss Leslie, thank you for sharing my Chicago Public School Cafeteria Butter Cookie recipe. I am honored to be the first cookie recipe this week on your channel. The cookies are amazing and they taste PHENOMENAL LOL. The two extra tablespoons of flour is optional only if needed in the dough. I have the same scooper, mine may be the next size up. After you scoop the dough on the tray, I press three fingers on them to make waves or ridges and that will flatten the cookie out and make them a little larger as well
If you want. The recipe does make more then it says.
You did an awesome job making them and displaying them on your beautiful plate stand. So glad Pastor Bryant loved them as well. Love the new recliner😍
Thank you so much for sending them. They were amazing! And phenomenal! Lol!
Hello Miss Charo O, Thank you so much for the recipe! May I ask, how much salt does your recipe call for if one should use unsalted butter? I would really, really, really appreciate it. Miss Leslie used salted butter but never mentioned how much salt to add if one should use unsalted butter in her video or in her description. I appreciate your time. God Bless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@charoo718 Thank you so very, very much! Have a Blessed day as well !!!!!!!!!!!!!
You could do all kind of things with them❣️🥰
Otterbeins makes a lemon cookie similar to what you were talking about. 😊💕Melinda
Oh yes I remember those lemon cookies
I need some Butter Cookies in my life!
I am definitely what you try these cookies too. You haven't ever heard of fried ice cream it is definitely really good. Especially with honey drizzled over top
Can't wait to try these. You could make your own sanding sugar by putting a little food coloring in the sugar before dipping your glass. Or decorate with royal icing (hearts for Valentine's Day) dip in colored sanding sugar.
I don't remember the lemon cookies you mentioned. Does anyone else remember the lemon cooler cookies? They only came out during summer and maybe spring. Love your new recliner.
I love lemon cookies
Just eat them plain!!! YUM! Are you kidding me? I would make some of them very thin and then sandwich with with chocolate in the middle!
I ran across your channel ,I love it, and I will be watching and subscribing! Blessings from Houston Tx. btw, I'm making those cookies, thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much
I just had to stop to make a batch of these cookies. They are delicious! I've been looking for a good recipe for years and could not find one. Thank you and thank the person who sent you the recipe. I added two pinches of salt because I used unsalted butter. BTW, I stamped my cookies with a glass mug from the Dollar Tree. It has a sunburst design on the bottom. The cookies are beautiful. They are supposed to be a Valentine's gift for my grandsons, but they may not make it to their house. I've already eaten a half dozen!
They sound beautiful
Lord help me I love 🧈 cookies 😭😋
Oh my me too Leticia. Me too😋❤️
We need a Cookout in Louisville!!!
You could use colored sugar to dip the glass into.
Great idea
I'm significantly older than you but I remember those cookies but I can't remember what they were called. Gosh, it's been forever since I've seen them. I'm going to try this recipe. I have a house full of cookies monsters, me included. Thanks!
Oh my! The nuns used to make these, minus vanilla, for us in school. These were my favorite and I got the recipe. The only thing you have to remember is--YOU HAVE TO USE REAL BUTTER. They do not work with margarine or shortening.
Yes always real butter!
These look great !! I will send you one of my favorite cookie recipes it is called a cup of everything cookie 💕
I got my box yesterday but I haven't opened it yet.
@@TheFarmingPastorsWife hope you like it 💕💕
@@levernelogan4914 oh my goodness I loved it! It was like Christmas morning. Judah was so excited about the Mickey mouse stuff and I just loved everything! Thank you so very much!
they were called lemon thins made by nabisco .i loved them.
I found through the years that even when using salted butter, which I always use, it just isn’t enough to round out the flavor of the recipe if the salt required is left out . I always use the amount of salt in the recipe regardless and after 45 years of baking haven’t messed up once. But to each his own and it’s up to each persons individual taste. Thanks for the recipe!👍.
