My Mom had made these cookies for as long as I can remember. She passed away in 2017, but we kept this recipe in our family. I am 63 such great memories ❤.
I have loved these cookies for at least 60 years! I don't make them too often because I would eat too many. They are so comforting, I seem to make them in the colder weather.
Over the last 5 yrs or so of my baking, I started to sift all of my dry ingredients which has improved having any lumps in the sugars, flour, etc. I'm definitely going to make these!
That’s what I do👍But I add another ingredient that I learned that is add a 1/4 teaspoon of cream of tartar to the sugar cocoa mix as you say mix that well before adding to the pot👍👍👍 And I use a thermometer, the temperature needs to be around 225-235 when starting to boil, that’s when I start the timer but I go 2 minutes, doesn’t fail. And I add 2 tablespoons spoons more of milk when mixing the peanut butter and vanilla flavoring in then add the oats.
I love these cookies. I also add about 1/4 cup coconut to mine. I also pour them onto a cookie sheet covered with wax paper instead of dipping them out with a spoon. Once they have set, I then cut them into squares. It just saves a little time from doing all the dipping and trying to get them out in a hurry.
These go back to the 60s for me! In elementary school, the cafeteria ladies didn't boil the choco mixture enough, and they'd be gooey, like you said. By high school, they'd figured it out and turned out wonderful bar cookies they called Peanut Butter Delight. Football players would roam the cafeteria offering to buy other kid's bars for a quarter. They didn't have much luck, but I was lucky enough to have an aunt who was a cafeteria lady, and she gave the the recipe when I was 12. Those big bubbles, that's what you want, a mixture you can't stir down. Sometime try just pouring it into a pan and cutting it into bars, much easier. You can't beat this cookie. Thanks for the memories!
Same here. I got the recipe from my neighbor who worked in the high school cafeteria. And I don't boil the cocoa either. I add it in after I add the peanut butter. It melts great. Make adjustment with butter and oats to your liking. Always a favorite but never heard it called "Preacher Cookies." Just no bakes.
My mother taught me to make these back in the 70's. The only difference was she didn't use peanut butter , she would add in a small can of coconut and of course a cup of chopped pecans. I'm going to make a batch of these as soon as my roomates leave. Like you, I don't plan on sharing. One thing I've learned when using cocoa I always stir it into the sugar real well, this seems to prevent those little balls that you think are never going to dissolve. Always enjoy your videos.
Yes, my recipe is from the ‘70s as well, and mine says 3 cups of oats plus 1 cup of coconut, no peanut butter. Since then, this recipe has popped up all over without the coconut, plus they’ve added peanut butter now. So you said it exactly, if you overcook them more than one (1) minute, they will be dull and not shiny and they fall apart cuz they’re dryer. They’ll taste okay however, the shiny ones are the best. They are so good and such a fast recipe. I’ve made them at the last minute when we knew company was dropping in. They’re quick to make and everyone loves them. So good.
I love these cookies. I remember the first time I had ever had them. I had spent the night with a girlfriend. We were in early elementary school. Her Dad fixed a batch and before they were set up he let us have one to share. It was still warm and so very good , plus that was the first time I had ever seen a man cook! Boy, was I impressed. Years later, I got the recipe from him. They were my go to comfort food. I went through a rough time of loss in my life when my brother died in a car accident ( decades ago now) and I had this recipe down to a 2-4 cookie portion and made them for my comfort food everyday after work. I gained about 20 lbs.lol I have since lost his recipe and am glad to have come across it here. I will make these again, but not indulge myself as am now a diabetic and food this yummy is not my friend. Am 64 now and enjoyed the memory this elicited. I will never forget. Precious memories,
K, did you see a comment above where the sugar was replaced with Truvia? She said her grown children could not taste the difference! I may try that for my younger brother, who also has diabetes.
I just love you & your husband & I'm glad I found your channel a few weeks ago. I just made these at 1 in the morning cause I had been meaning to make them all weekend lol. Oh my, so good!! I remember these from my childhood. Going to make another batch for NYE. Thank ya'll for showing how to make these delicious cookies!
These cookies are my sons absolute favorite and I make them for him every time he comes over. The only thing I do different is I add a little marshmallow cream and they turn out so good. Great job Jessica! Thank you!!
I made two perfect batches today. I bring to a FULL rolling boil then time for 60 seconds. Take off and lay them out. I cook with gas which helps a lot. Merry Christmas all🥰
You are such a kind and nice lady!!! Thanks yo you and Jessica for showing us how to make thse cookies! Mind hardly turn out right! Maybe now they will!!! Thanks again!!!
These are my go to cookies. I'm 65yrs old and my mum made these since I was a child. I double the batch and make you place them in an airtight container. These are so quick and easy. That is correct, a must, once starts bubbling, keep stirring for "1" minute. Take off heat. I put vanilla in & quick oats. Since I double the recipe, I must buy the larger containers of oats, peanut butter, sugar. Every inch of my counters are lined with wax paper & once all combined, immediately must start spooning. Mine set pretty quickly, but, I allow them to cool down, then easier to remove from wax paper, then place in airtight containers. I love, love, love, these cookies!!!
I set my timer for exactly 2 mins. when it begins to boil.(without stirring). I really have no problem with the cookies cooking the 2 mins. I have made these for at least 50 years. They are our family’s favorite.
I made these weekly when my son was a child. We just called them boiled cookies. No matter the name, they were favorites. Havent made them in years but i shall rectify this tomorrow! Lol. Thanks and may God continue to bless.
Thanks Leslie and Jessica! I make these a good bit. I use reg oats (not the gluten free) and they come out fine. My recipe is called Indian Cookies (One Minute Cookies) so they go by different names. I also have another similar recipe that you might want to try....of course using Jessica's tips. 😜 No Bake Fudge Cookies 3 cups quick Oats 1 teaspoon vanilla (I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to add a tbsp if you wanted to) 1 cup chopped pecans or flaked coconut 2 cups sugar 1/2 cup cocoa 1/2 cup milk 1/2 cup butter (or margarine)...1 stick Combine oats, vanilla, and nuts in a large bowl (again I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to just add them to the pot if you wanted to). Bring sugar, cocoa, milk, and butter to a rolling boil in a pan. Pour chocolate mixture over oats mixture and mix well. Drop by spoonfuls onto waxed (or parchment) paper. Let cool and enjoy. Yields about 5 1/2 dozen cookies. They are good even without the nuts or coconut....which is how my family prefers them. Let me know if you try them.
UA-cam suggested your channel to us through our own channel. Probably because we do cooking and homesteading and devotional videos. So I thought I would come watch... now I am completely addicted. LOL. Can't stop watching.
Thank you Leslie and Jessica very much. My family loves loves these cookies. Sometimes I can do them right but sometimes they just don’t do right. I appreciate this so much. God bless y’all.
Anything I make that doesn't turn out I re heat or thin a tiny bit and frost a cake. Awesome. Best cake I ever made was frosted with fridge fudge that didnt set.😘😘🎂🎂🎂
I've been making these for over 50 years, I've had the ones that don't set up and harden, and what I did was scrape them back into the pot and bring them back to a boil and cook for about a minute and they set up great then. Also I put my peanut butter in , right when i take it off the stove so that it melts into the chocolate, then the vanilla and the oatmeal I add a little at a time. If the liquid looks wet it's done if you add too much oatmeal, it can come out dry and crumbly ( my son devours them regardless) . Another thing , in my area, Northern New Hampshire, the weather plays a part in how these will turn out. I made them on a rainy day and followed the recipe exactly and they came out really dry.
Don’t Worry, Be Happy! ☺️ These are also my favorite cookie but without the peanut butter. I like PB ones but yea. Also, the last time I made them, instead of spooning them into individual cookies, I spread the whole batch out on my paper fairly thin and then cut them into squares! So much faster and just as good! 💜
Yes, I had such a time getting mine to turn out right, and when I realized getting all of my ingredients out and ready, is the key, I haven't had any problems since.
They look really delicious! I remember making a recipe very similar to this, passed on by my mother. They were always so delicious. That recipe really brings back memories! I love the relationship and bond you two 💓 lovely ladies have. But seriously, she comes all the way out and even brings her own pan...I'd definitely offer her the first cookie or two!
Jessica is so beautiful. Thanks for having her showing how to do this. There was a lady in our church, Mrs Turner. She always made them for any occasion at church. She called them Chocolate delights. Her recipe called for cooking 3 minutes. I never made a good batch, now I know why. It’s raining here today, so I will have to wait for a sunny day. You two make a great duo!
Wow came across this video and flooded me with memories of my Mom making these as a child. I'm going to make some for my grandkids in memory of my Mom. Loved the video thank you.
My family loves these cookies. My dad is a preacher and was pastor of the same church for 56 years. He had to retire after having a stroke and my son in law is a preacher so needless to say preacher cookies are made a lot. Have a blessed day

THANK you for sharing tips and I plan to stir the cocoa & sugar together next time to elevate the bumpy spots again Thank you for sharing these tips!
That's not unusual since you're using Hersey's cocoa powder and not the chips. You can add a tablespoon of raw coconut oil which is a solid if you want them shiny.
I’m hit and miss on making these also so maybe I can get it right with this recipe and I thought I was the only one that doesn’t drink milk lol . Thank you Jessica for your recipe 😋
We think everybody so much for the rest of these we graciously appreciate the recipe 100% And I will continue so I get it right God bless each and everyone of you
Girl I used to make these when I was married and I had two small children. They love these cookies, and so did their father and I did too, and they are addictive.
I loved the added tips. I have made these, and the last time was a disaster, so the tips are very helpful. I'm making them today to bring to family dinner.

Yay!! I just made a batch of these, I just didn't have the full amount of peanut butter, my husband is the peanut butter snatcher in this house. Lol thanks for sharing. God bless.
Jessica s a Beautiful, Sweet sounding lady. I love preacher cookies too, my Dad was a preacher for almost 60 years, when I was little I thought they were just made for him, made me a little sad when I found out that wasn't so. Those cookies Y'all fixed look sooooooo good. PRAYERS
We call these Icebox cookies. I use to make them as dessert cook for Elementary, Jr. High and High School. Everyone loved them! My sister and I replaced the sugar with truvia and our grown kids couldn't tell the difference. ♡

Me too. I‘ve been making these for around 50 yrs and only make them for Christmas time because they’re addictive and I can’t just eat one.
I used to work at quaker oats...for forty years.
I also worked at quicker oats.
If you mix you cocoa and sugar together well before adding it to the butter, you don't have to worry about having lumps of cocoa to press out!
Thanks First Try😀
I melt butter completely, then add milk, add sugar melting completely, then add my cocoa (no lumps)

No Bake Fudge Cookies
3 cups quick Oats
1 teaspoon vanilla (I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to add a tbsp if you wanted to)
1 cup chopped pecans or flaked coconut
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup cocoa
1/2 cup milk

I love preacher cookies too, my Dad was a preacher for almost 60 years, when I was little I thought they were just made for him, made me a little sad when I found out that wasn't so. Those cookies Y'all fixed look sooooooo good.

This is one cookie I love .They never turn out like you ..
We call these Icebox cookies. I use to make them as dessert cook for Elementary, Jr. High and High School. Everyone loved them! My sister and I replaced the sugar with truvia and our grown kids couldn't tell the difference. ♡
@kay cooper is it the same amount as sugar when making with truvia? Can I use Stevia?
@@nancylyn2000 I used the same amount of Trivia as I would have with sugar. Yes, I believe you can use the same with Stevia.
