John Wood aka Max Ripple on the keyboard.
He was my lecturer at Goldsmiths in 1999. A beautiful man. And a lovely band.

First time I've seen a live recording of this classic. Got it in 7" somewhere. I was just a kid when this came out. My daughter is a musician, just starting out playing gigs in Liverpool and I'm hoping she plays this.

Deaf School were to the Forties what Roxy Music were to the Fifties. Two great entertaining bands.

Love it! Not heard for ages. Great stuff ( Starman sample!). Anyone remember they used to play this as last song in Roxy Room, Pips M/cr.

Songs that are mini plays. Meat loaf meets early queen style chord progressions. Brian ferry male lead vox and a stunner of a female singer backed by a great band. Delightful!!!!

We're Thunderboots, the Liverpool band from the late 70s - although we recently reformed and are releasing new music. If anybody has live recordings/footage of us then please get in touch. We've been looking for missing live recordings from the 70s for ages. Much appreciated x

who could think that it's the same man who would sing "letter from my heart " in the 80s and have a big hit with it.

I've seen them live, a few times actually, both back in the day and more recently. They've most definitely still got it, although Enrico looks a little different these days... And Bette Bright is Mrs Suggs, if there's anyone out there who didn't already know that.

Paul, you seem knowledgeable…..in about 1977 I was listening to John Peels show on a crackly portable radio( quietly under the bedclothes) and heard a song that JP said, “athe end of this Clive Langer manages to sound like the Shadows and Duane Eddy at the same time, no mean feat….” And you know what, it did, Knowing Peely it was probably an obscure album track , but nothing I can find on you tube or his sessions….Any idea what that track was?

@@jaediccacairns4754 Sorry Jaedicca, I can't help you there. Clive became a record producer after Deaf School split up, although I do have a 12" EP by Clive Langer and the Boxes so it could be taken from that. AFAIK, he didn't release much else. DS still gigging though, now and then, and well worth catching if you can.

Deaf school and the many bands they spawned, the original mirrors, the planets, Bettie bright and the Illuminations. Ground breakers and seldom bettered

Clive Langer and the Boxes...and don't forget he and Alan Winstanley producing those 80's Costello LP's. This is the kind of band rock-n-roll needs again. Now.
