how cool is that then! The Chords!! Thanks for that great blast from the past. They were my fave band back in the 80's. Listening to them now makes me understand why, THEY ARE JUST FANTASTIC!!! So many bands today try to copy what they mastered back in the 80's, but will never get even close to what they did.
Great band! wow! I live in Phoenix AZ and have never seen the Chords on any form of video.. the best mod revival band.. ever along with Squire and the Jam! Thanks for posting...
despite my love of some fantastic tunes by the chords for people to even mention them in the same breadth of the JAM is fucking laughable. the Jam will always be no 1. great song tho'
The Chords did reform briefly, was too young first time round but was lucky enough to see them play at the IOW (when it was still a Mod rally) in the 90's, well worth the 12 hour scooter ride from Scotland.
WoW! Interesting to see this turn up! I followed this band in the 80's they were really something live. The split weren't their fault Polydor pulled the rug from under them to concentrate on The Jam. I know it gutted the band. Buddy & Chris are still upto something today though!
WOW! I used to listen to these guys all the time. All their singles are amazing and it's so cool to finally see footage of them. Deepest thanks from Canada!
The chords were a decent Mod band but to class them above the Jam is ridiculous...I'd even say Secret Affair as the Mod Revivals second best ahead of the Chords but hey that's just ma opinion.
the chords, they were the band for me in my mod days, brilliant.them and the purple hearts were the best from the mod scene, other fav bands from period were long tall shorty, small hours, the fixations.
Keep the faith, 40+ married bloke with two little kids Never saw the Chords live but was lucky enough to see Jam, Secret Affair, etc will be at Astoria gig with a few other devotees
ahhhh anotherr fantastic song by the chords... mods rock!! wahooo!! martins a lengend!! so are chris, buddy & billy also... ive met them all.. they all rock ... so do their kids!
Blimey you are even older than me...my eldest sister used to go to The Royal Oak in Tooley Street and she knew all of the Chords as they were brothers/cousins of her mates. She used to make the little chords badges. Ahh memories of Bermondsey and seeing Billy Hasset in his stripey blazer.
YAY!!!!! someone mentioned direct hits!!!!!house of secrets! aw , and the prisoners!!!! the music was better than the people.. mods can be so narrow minded !
Chris Pope & Brett Ascott are now Pope & currently working on their 2nd album. Mick Talbot joined them in the studios. Pope often slip in the odd Chords track live. I uploaded a few Pope vids (click on my name) also quite a few From The Jam live tracks I've recorded too. While we're on the subject of the 79 revival - Secret Affair are back together & tickets are onsale for The Astoria 2 in September & Purple Hearts - Simon and Gary are now in RT3 - tracks from them are in my videos too!
Jojo the dodo. Hahahaha...Mods are wankers! Hahahaha...this is fun. I hate Vespas too. Hahahaha...oh, but I do love Television Personalities. Thank god they weren't mods...hahahaha
keep taking the medication mate. best single of 79? yeah u like them that much u dont even know when it was out. very very average. and thats being kind.
Superb song - full of energy and controlled agression. I absolutely love it.
My fav band after the Jam...still got all their singles and album...even the export issue...wonder if thats worth a few bob?
Who cares who was better? These guys were good. That's it. Now go grow up.
under rated band, great sound mod revival top notch KTF

1559godhead....The Chords may not have been in the same league as the Jam, but this is a classic song!
I don't care what anyone else thinks on here, i fucking like them and thats that.

classic stuff! fucking great band, brings back memories
Takes me back to being 15 and saving my pennies for import Chords 45's!
The chords were a decent Mod band but to class them above the Jam is ridiculous...I'd even say Secret Affair as the Mod Revivals second best ahead of the Chords but hey that's just ma opinion.

my fave band from the revival, still sound good today, should of been bigger,i never saw them live, should reform and tour lancashire !
Keep the faith, 40+ married bloke with two little kids Never saw the Chords live but was lucky enough to see Jam, Secret Affair, etc will be at Astoria gig with a few other devotees
i love this album, i dont know if anyone remembers, but "happy families" was in the kroq rotation in the early 80's..
wow! great to see this! reminds me of the old days that will never die!
love this song. once a mod always a mod KTF
ahhhh anotherr fantastic song by the chords... mods rock!! wahooo!! martins a lengend!! so are chris, buddy & billy also... ive met them all.. they all rock ... so do their kids!
fucking excellent always preferred them to the jam ( only just mind )

So, what is the original album worth? I bought it the week it came out. Preferred Secret Affair at the time.
Great track!
SECRET AFFAIR pIay The Picturedrome, HoImfirth, Nov 28th 2009!
Fucking brilliant band!
they should put this on guitar hero
Billy Hassett sounds like he's singing live. Brilliant voice.. better than Weller in my opinon.
Utter genius.
The Jam had released 4 albums by then!?!
This is very fine song, but weller wrote albums and albums of them from 1977 onwards!!!
memebers of the chords playing 229 club in london on friday! long live the POPE
YAY!!!!! someone mentioned direct hits!!!!!house of secrets! aw , and the prisoners!!!!
the music was better than the people.. mods can be so narrow minded !
CLASSIC!!
underated band
eddie van halen must have loved that guitar
Great band... Where could I find a free mp3 of this song? Anyone knows? Thanks
I meant to say the Lambrettas or Purple Hearts, but got really confused as you said...darn it. "This is the modern world...."
Look for a group called 'Pope' - Buddy Ascott and Chris Pope, are still doing the rounds and sounding better that ever!
now that is a good idea.
The Jam were never called The Chords. I think you might be getting a bit confused.
tops
yeeee
Thanks for posting this.
Reminds me of my teenage years back in the 80`s.
This song is a classic from that era
One of the best bands ever-absolutely!
miles better than secret affair but never as good as the jam.
More mod revival not bad
the Jam kicks arse over this
Chris Pope & Brett Ascott are now Pope & currently working on their 2nd album. Mick Talbot joined them in the studios. Pope often slip in the odd Chords track live. I uploaded a few Pope vids (click on my name) also quite a few From The Jam live tracks I've recorded too.

Can't be bothered to read all the comments on the Jam/Chords debate but this is as good if not better than anything the Jam released.
You know how some songs make you miss the past? This isn't one of those songs.
I truly doubt that you have a "far wider taste and collection of music". The only thing I know for sure is you are a punter...that is all.
that makes feel old, the chords deserved more at least on a par with the jam.
When were the Jam called the Chords???Fucking mods...hahahaha
These mod revival groups were all 4th-rate Jam copy-cats who were 1st-rate Who/Small Faces copy-cats. Too much copy-catting for me.
good group but not a patch on the jam or secret affair ...
Jojo the dodo. Hahahaha...Mods are wankers! Hahahaha...this is fun. I hate Vespas too. Hahahaha...oh, but I do love Television Personalities. Thank god they weren't mods...hahahaha
keep taking the medication mate.
best single of 79?
yeah u like them that much u dont even know when it was out.
very very average. and thats being kind.
Turgid, forced...the only thing i can say in it's favour is the song's jerky energy and enthusiasm. A poor man's (The) Jam.
Jam rip off merchants
