    I can't believe that this video has only 1,412 views. It breaks my heart. In 1977 they were my favourite band. I wore out several copies of Don't Stop the World. Drove my friends nuts with the record!

    1977 was a great time for me and i would do anything to go back to this date.... Deaf School were awesome and this was one of the first bands i ever saw but i didn't appreciate them at the time....i am so sorry to say this but Deaf School you were so underrated and you should have sold millions of records xxxx

    Insanely cool ! Ahead of their time ! I hear a little bit of Gentle Giant - Sparks - Split Enz - Crack The Sky - Skyhooks - and many other great bands that we all know - sad how no one has heard of Deaf School?

    Love this, just listened to all the albums the other day, I was lucky enough to see them a few times in the seventies. They alongside Roxy and Split Enz were a huge influence on me when I formed Basczax

    Why did I wait 20 years between hearing the name of this band and actually listening to them? DOH! What's odd is I know a few music heads from Liverpool and none have ever mentioned them. If they were from my town, I'd be going on and on about them! There are lots of great bands from the 'Pool but surely these are one of the very best?

    Ah, the good old days...Deaf School were one of the first bands I saw at Sheffield Uni Bar 2. My big brother took me when I was fourteen and a half and it wasn't no laugh. They were fucking great. Bette in her Swanky Modes dress and Enrico HOT HOT HOT! That's where I met Stephen Singleton selling hi fanzine 'Steve's Paper' in the audience afterwards and we became best mates. He went on to form Vice Versa and then ABC, which I joined when he left& David Palmer left to join Yellow Magic Orchestra.

    Saw them at Hardman House next to Kirklands in 88 I think it was, seen them everytime they've been back to Liverpool! A band you have to see to believe,unbefuckinglievable that they haven't been mainsteam for the last thirty odd years, the shite that has come and gone in between ,Deaf school get better and better....keep it going Boys and Girls!!!!!!!!!

    I saw Deaf School in 1977 in Durham and became a HUGE fan! I saw them in again in 2010 and they sounded just as brilliant. They are one of the few bands who sound just as good live as in the studio. Utterly BRILLIANT!!

    I don't know. Apart from the lead singer's lounge-lizard get-up, these guys don't look or sound much like Roxy Music. A lot campier, a lot Kinksier, different sense of humor. Roxy Music were great, too, but at least they got their due, and these guys never really did.

      Sort of 'right band, wrong time'. Seemed to be caught in between the Roxys and the first creative, inventive ripples of the New Wave. Plenty of bands were influenced by them, but you can't pay the rent with liner notes.

    ...I mean *they* couldn't really play their instruments that well either ... how come they got caught in the scattershot?! How many songs from the late 70s New Wave showed the writing and performing skills of Taxi or Nearly Moonlit Night Motel? We all want shooting for letting such a talented out fit like this slip from our grasp. Thank god they've had the sense to get back together.

  • @mtivnen
    @mtivnen 14 років тому

    @KeeganBrooks Spot on. I was at both their Dublin Castle gigs this week and have been watching them since my days at Liverpool Uni in '73. The consensus is that punk killed them off; but what were we doing to allow the monotony of punk to force entertainment like this out of our lives? I was as big a fan of the Pistols, Clash, Ramones, Dolls etc as anyone, and prog rock certainly needed its pompous ego pricking. But Deaf School? I mean *they* couldn't really play their instruments that well eit

    I saw them a few times, they had a sort of 'send off' gig at a club in Birkenhead, can't remember the name of the club but the audience was almost entirely made up of local bands all rooting for them. I then saw them at Oxford a bit later after they'd been signed by Warners. They were, rather incongruously, supported by a punk band called Cockney Sparrow who spent most of the time gobbing at the audience, not that many people stayed in for their set. I also remember there was some tension with Kursaal Flyerslead singer Paul Shuttleworth over Enrico Cadillac Jnr's image being rather similar to his.

    I had an album that was handed down from my older sister. I absolutely loved it. In 1989 they did a reunion tour and appeared at the Hardman Hotel in Liverpool. It's still probably the best gig I've seen. At the end possibly Nick Lowe and definitely Suggs came on and sang My Girls Mad At Me. The whole concert was brilliant. Happy times

    Eric Shark a/k/a Thomas Sam Davis [the balding guy doing the spoken word parts] passed away earlier this year, January 7, 2010 awaiting a lung transplant. I hope he knows that this band and his contributions will be remembered for a long time coming.
    I bought the WB dbl pack when it was released stateside in'78. One of my favorite collections. Enrico, Bette, Clive Langer-all of this tremendous talent thumbing their nose at the 'normal'. The new steam-punk scene owe much to this band. FANTASTIC!
