Pathfinder: WOTR is an isometric single-player role-playing story game currently in development by Russian studio Owlcat Games and published by Deep Silver, based on Paizo Publishing's Pathfinder franchise. Announced through a Kickstarter campaign in February 2020, the game will be released for PC, Microsoft Windows, and macOS on September 4, 2021. A console version for Xbox Series X, Xbox Series X Gameplay, PS5, PS5 Gameplay, Playstation 5, Playstation 5 Gameplay, will be released at a later date. The game is a sequel to Pathfinder: Kingmaker.

In WOTR the realm of Sarkoris was destroyed when Areelu Vorlesh opened a rift to the abyssal planes of existence, and hordes of demons invaded the world of Golarion. Led by the evil Demon Lords Deskari, Baphomet, and Nocticula, the abyssal forces crushed all who stood against them, turning Sarkoris into a demon‑infested land now known as the Worldwound. Pathfinder has dozens of classes and subclasses with thousands of abilities, feats, spells, talents, and buffs to choose from. The spell listing allows you to choose from Evocation (Damage Dealing), Enchantment (Crowd Control), Necromancy (Undead), Abjuration (Buffs), Illusion (Crowd Control), Divination (Buffs/Disruptor), and Conjuration (Summoning). This is combined with an insane amount of class/subclass options including Alchemist, Arcanist, Barbarian, Bard, Bloodrager, Cavalier, Cleric, Druid, Fighter, Hunter, Inquisitor, Kineticist, Magus, Monk, Oracle, Paladin, Ranger, Rogue, Shaman, Skald, Slayer, Sorcerer, Warpriest, Witch, and Wizard! It is Owlcat's goal to give each of these classes at least 5 subclasses each!
Choose your Mythic Path and embody an Angel, Demon, merciless Lich, wily Trickster, superhero Azata, law incarnate Aeon, truly evil Swarm, merciful Gold Dragon, or forgo all of them to stand alone as a Legend. Each path will allow you to improve your hero in unique ways, adding a new layer to character development and making your hero and their allies a true match for their powerful enemies.
There are more than a dozen potential party members in the game including Camellia (Half-Elf/Spirit Hunter), Seelah (Human/Paladin), Lann (Mongrel/Zen Archer), Ember (Elf/Stigmatized Witch), Arueshalae (Succubus/Espionage Expert), Woljif (Tiefling/Eldritch Scoundrel), Daeran (Aasimar/Oracle), Sosiel (Human/Cleric), Regil (Gnome/Hellknight), Wenduag (Mongrel/Fighter), Nenio (Kitsune/Scroll Savant), Greybor (Dwarf/Slayer). All of these companions have their own backgrounds, alignments, and motivations. All of them are fully voice acted with unique character models. There are even more followers that are locked behind specific story/mythic quest options!

Evil Arueshalae will only rejoin you if your Mythic Path is Legend, Lich, Demon, or Trickster. Otherwise she will refuse to rejoin you and you will be forced to kill her. Even if you went with the Devil Mythic Path, she will not join you, since Devils & Demons hate each other.
The best choice for a Demon Lord character. The "secret ending" slide that you can get with her, wojiff and greybor is also a really nice touch.
Nice looking forward to seeing it.
It's telling that in a game where you can become a demon lord or a ravenous have mind that consumes the world that this is among the most evil things you can do.

I still say that the option where you essentially *break* Ember remains the absolute most evil option in the game
No, the most evil thing you can do is pursue Arueshalae's quest as a Trickster. During the fallen Azata encounter, you can reenact a scene from Redo of Healer, apparently as some sort of grand 'prank!'
@@Nyrufa You fucking do WHAT in this game as Trickster? For fuck sake, I knew I hated Trickster more than Demon lmao. I couldn't even get through the first few Trickster options because it genuinely seems more evil than anything else sometimes; the 'chaotic' options it gives you are usually just evil.
It's a truly Satanic move if you think about it. Anyone can be a monster, but to break a good soul, and turn them evil is what Satan is all about. It's more evil than just killing and eating everyone because you're making the people who are killing and eating everyone.
Arueshalae, Ember, Aivu my only soft spots in this game. Cant bring myself to evil playthrough only because of them.

@@Rhygenix I kind of love True Aeon tbh. You don't do anything bad to anyone out of malice, it's just your purpose. You end up becoming more like a force of nature, and we don't call hurricanes evil. It also just feels nice and tidy to have the worldwound never have opened at all, even if it means that Woljif is still throwing rocks at Ember and that Arushalae is still an evil succubus. So much less suffering happened in the end from that ending that our friends going back to their mundane, normal lives without us is really a small price to pay.
@@Mystibump My issue is that I get too attached to my companions and my character, and the decisions make me feel awful.

Thanks for showing me what happens so I dont have to force myself into actually going for it in my playthrough. Altho I'm into a Neutral Evil Lich run, the way I roleplay it is that I don't particularly care about others, the same way a human doesn't care about ants or flies, so if she wants to redeem herself, sure, go for it. The same way I support Camellia's peculiar hobby, or whatever. All I care about is power lol :^)

Evil Arue freaks me out so much, I honestly love her, but like her dialogue and voiced dialogue especially is just so chilling.
Yup she's awesome to haver on a Demon playthrough.
Certainly bad, but IMO most evil choice(s) in the game is/are the evil Ember one(s). Lie face down on the floor for hours and think about just where you went wrong in your life, reload and go Azata so she can have cookies with Aivu level evil
Oh nice I didn't consider people would feel strongly about that. I'll ensure my Demon is extra cruel towards her. 😂

@@SlanderedGaming My demon was nice to Ember and even spared Galfrey so i wouldnt need to kill Seelah... He ended up a freak of nature, Chaotic Neutral demon, like Nocticula almost... Seelah remained my friend in demon ascension ending and was trying to constantly redeem me... While Ember was my adopted god-daughter and helping/redeeming people XD it was funny.
Ya most evil for me feels like Azata to swarm because Aivu becomes the cookie for you to eat
True, it was heartbreaking messing Ember up. The line "please don't leave me here" she constantly says when you select her was the reason I paused my lich run. This game is no joke.
If I remember correctly Azata is a hard no. Azata is a reminder of what she tried to become. Also it’s implied any Azata is a follower of desna and she’s not to keen on desna at that point.

You know, aeon might actually be ok. Aeon's whole thing is returning the world to its natural state, and turning her back into a demon is in line with the aeons' adjendas. I'll need to test that out

@@SlanderedGaming Finished my True Aeon story a couple of days ago. While I didn't pick only lawful decisions, I did enough to rocket alignment from neutral to lawful neutral. I did play Arueshalae's story through, to redemption, and romanced her. Though I really enjoyed the ending, it hurt to think I undid the complete redemption.

If you finish the Aion path, Arue will also stay evil, as the World Wound was never opened, and she never came to Golarion. ;-)
And of course you cannot romance evil Arue. Demon don't have feelings like love.
If u keep a memory about urself after redeeming her she will become kinda decent succubi, one of Nocticulas favorite. We know that our lady in shadow will ascend and maybe she can take Aru with her to the elysium.

If you left some of your memory behind, there will be more:
"Her serene demeanour marked her out as different from her sisters, and she surprised all she met with her dislike for bloodshed. However, those who considered her soft were taught a swift and deadly lesson.
Her other quirk, unheard of among succubi, was the disgust she felt for carnal pleasures. Many dreamt of climbing into her bed and would even wager on who would be the first. The bodies of these braggarts would later be found in pieces."
There is a secret ending slide if Woljif stays in the Abyss as a demon, Arue is corrupt and Greybor takes over the Assassin's Guild where the three of them team up to take over Alushynirra. Demons expect them to turn on each other but even as villains they are such good friends they never do.
Afaik it's overwritten if you get another Alushynirra-related ending slide (such as taking over in the Demon path) but other than that it's a pretty neat ending for the three of them.

Slightly incorrect they became high members of the aristocracy but never take over Alushinyrra. It would be still Nocticula for the other mythic paths not demon or a Demon KC if playing a demon mythic
Strangely enough if you get the ending with them working together and have the demon KC the ending treats it that you never speak each other even though your are ruler of the midnight isles.
Aru is to be loved and protected!

also, she was corrupted by desna - by making her evil again, we are freeing her from her corruption.

She is perfect so far for my demon path. One thing I don’t understand, as my first playthrough went as a true Aeon, why people refer to Arue as corrupted? She was a demon, even much above average demon, and then Desna intervened and made her what she is not. Now we turned her back to her normal state and yet people refer to her as corrupted?
Because if you go through with her regular path she is no longer a demon
LOL There's definitely a case to be made that all the goody goody stuff is the real corruption and we have purified her.

Aeons view demons who try to do good as a perversion of the nature of the outer planes; the aeon quests in the abyss are proof enough of this
People refer to her as corrupted because we're first introduced to her as a succubus trying to become good, so their default perspective of who she is is that person, not the mostly standard fare succubus she becomes if you turn her off of her path to redemption.
You're definitely right that by all accounts a good succubus is the corrupted one, not an evil succubus.
I haven't tested this and will never do it, but I read that if you switch to Swarm from Azata, You have the option to eat Aivu.... If that is true, than that is definetly the most evil choice in the game by far. This would be a second though hahaha.

If you're wondering in chap 3 when the romance will move along , make sure you have rescued the storyteller. I was kinda stuck and just figured it out .

I guessing at this point in game is before u can swap to devil so devil is definitly no but id be curius if she just outright would t anyway since demons hate devils anyway
Devil's cannot recruit her. Even if you come before you switch to Devil then you are an Aeon or Azata both of which she will reject.

Another heartbreaking Arueshalae moment comes if you romance her as an angel and choose to sacrifice yourself at the end. That one got me, ngl

I tried this as an Azata and it turns out you get to live on as a dream ghost thanks to an intervention by Desna .. as Angel may not get something similar. It still makes no sense not to kill Areelu since since she would just get to live out an ordinary and solitary life.
I think you have to be demon, trickster, lich or legend in order for her to not attack you.

Nope. +2 armor and bow.
She did rejoin me as a Lich, but she didn’t/wasn’t able to sleep with me due to lack of anatomy after the transformation. But I transformed as soon as I hit act 5.
Not sure what happens if you delay/don’t take the final transformation. I wonder if you can just not transform. Personally the final sets of Lich powers are not game changing at this point in the game.
That makes sense. I'll be interesting to see what those final powers are like.
@@SlanderedGaming just more of the same. But since like me you’re on playing on normalish difficulties, you don’t need everything perfect. My mostly melee group set up for attacks of opportunity melted everything in chap 5/6. Only time that wasnt true ember flamed them down with hellfire ray crit spam. Either way my pc’s build was slightly roleplay-y. But I’d like to do Lich again since I liked everything except the final transformation and want Ainz Ooal gown fantasy .
She says that even without the full transformation. I'm still at mythic 8 haven't done any final rituals, still need to upgrade Ziggy and other stuff, and that's what she tells me something along the the lines: "I'd really like to, but it's not going to work. What goes where exactly?"
I done messed it up. Dang it. I completely forgot to do Arueshalaes quest in Act 3. Dang it!
Time for a new game.

Gah! I tried to do this with my demon playthrough which I just finished, but could not figure it out and she just left.
Hopefully next time you do an evil playthrough it should work properly for you.
Arueshalae and Ember are the two most good-aligned entities in the game, perhaps with the exception of Desna, Iomedae and the Herald .. so yea, this is the most messed up thing you could possibly do. It's not even optimal from a gameplay point of view, because you miss on having her during act 4, if as described.
I personally don't think I'll be doing this on my evil playthroughs .. I'll either not recruit her or follow through with her redemption arc (friends only).
I.....I just couldn't do it..... 3 playthroughs since I found out how and even playing demon when I know she'll walk away I just couldn't.... Mind you I have no problem killing the Queen, sleeping with demons and flat out lie to angel boy, helping a murderer run rampant through a dozen innocents, turning soldiers into cyborgs robbed of all self will... But, this is just too much even for me premeditating a bullet point checklist of things I'll do in a playthrough devoid of emotion and morals just a checklist. And when I get to this I wus out every single time... Thanks for the guide though =)

My Female Lich Bard create an evil girls party, with Evil Aru, Wenduag, Camellia, Ghost Queen and Delamere, pretty fun. After I have to kill my beloved Daeran I took a turn to pure evil (I almost gave up the lich Playthrough for him)

I'm very sad she doesn't become an 'evil romance' instead of this... I would like it if she still cared about you. Basically what i wanted from Arue romance was having a succubus LOVER. Her ascendant succubus path is about killing everything intresting about her. Like, having a romance with a Lawful Good drow. That's simply not a drow anymore.
Like, in 'true' aeon ending, if you're romancing her but reverse time and make her never redeemed, she keeps a twisted but true feelings for you. Why we can't have that here =(
I gues as an 'evil' real romance males have Wenduag, while both males and females have Daeren... Both Camellia and Evil Arue is a trap romance.
You can be Nocticula's consort/concubine as a Demon if you want a succubus romance...it's definitely limited compared to other romances, but at the very least you have a succubus gf who stays evil.
I think that was a real miss on Owlcat's part. There definitely should be an evil romance option for her.

I don't think so... She explained romance quite clearly in chapter 2. One person is pleased at the expense of the other. Either, her pleasure is met... or the player's. As the player is much more powerful than her... it will be the player's pleasure at her expense. As she's powerful enough to not want to be a toy... she'll leave or attempt to destroy the player. That's how evil works when the evil aren't equals.
@@aralornwolf3140 still would prefer a romance option for that route.
to be honest - killing all fairytale goodygood characters and turning into an evil character or trickster (for example by becoming a Swarm that walks before azata results in aivu getting eaten alive by the swarm) made this game enjoyable. unfortunately, this game sucks when it comes to most evil playthroughs. Even the endings for most evil characters are kinda bland. (i can ascend but cant romance nocticula OR she ascends but i am just a mere "champion"? - come one, make both ascend together or leave it)
Or you could make one TRULY EVIL path where you destroy order by killing a deity and not just weakass demonlords (would like to wipe the floor with iomedae or desna)
Or better, you could free rovagug and sit back as he destroys everything, including us.
I hope the upcoming DLCS will make a few funny evil choices.
Yeah I feel like they did some really cool things with evil paths but should've taken it a little but further.
Evil is subjective, my friend. This is helping her see herself for who she truly is. She looks so happy when she finally embraces it.
On a slightly serious note I do wish we saw more of her fighting her past self. She is chaotic neutral, so perhaps she could show more of a self centered side of that alignment. Maybe if you're not romancing her you'll see her stalking someone in Drezen. Initially it's just to understand mortals more, so she can understand her dreams, but it could have a darker undertone. Perhaps her curiosity has gotten to the point of lusting after this person. If you're flirting with her perhaps this person could be the player. You could wake up in your bedroom, and there she is staring at you. Biting her lower lip, and struggling to control herself.
Honestly I don't like that one dialogue option shatters her redemption path. I agree it would be nice to see more of a struggle and little more resistance to me pulling her back towards evil.
Yes, she looks happy while ascending Arue looks melancholic. They should have changed the picture after full ascension, with a happy Arue surrounded by butterflies.
@@Nikioko the fact is that, no matter what, she already destroyed countless lives by the time you meet her and being happy at the end would have been unappropriate. I myself genuinely struggled to decide if her ghosts and Dimalchino were more right about her than all the "good actions" she performed later. In the end I chose to further the plot of her romance but just for the sake of curiosity. I think that everything considered she doesn't even deserve a redemption ark.
@@marcog.7322 She did what was her nature as a demon. Realizing that she was an evil-doer was the first step of redemption. You cannot measure her past with a human morale compass since she isn't human and did what's normal for her species. And overall, her dedemption wasn's a singular event, it was a long process.
And no, Dimalchio wasn't right about her. He went the opposite way. She corrupted him, but it was his decision to accept this gift, becoming a real demon of the Abyss in the end.
@@Nikioko I can agree with everything you said exept on Dimalchio, if I recall right his hands are disfigured by what he committed hinting that his core nature is still azata.
But even so, now that she is fully ascended, demonic morale doesn't apply as well. I'd say that at the very minimum she should feel guilty for the rest of her existence (if not contemplating suicide), hence "good Arue" can't be an "happy Arue".

After you select that dialogue option I think she has you burn the table as well.

I was a horny demon (lol) in my first playthrough, and (as far as I can remember) I always chose suggestive conversation options whenever they came up- and I still got the option to recruit her when she was corrupted. (I guess I just happened to gain enough of her trust elsewhere to balance it out?)
Also, no mention of how truly awful corrupted Arue is mechanically when she re-joins the party? :P
Hmmm I never used her in my party so didn't notice a significant mechanics change. I will check that again.
@@SlanderedGaming Mostly just her favored enemies get set to a bunch of useless humanoid types you'll never encounter in Act 5 (dwarves, elves, halflings?!) and she gets a bunch of awful mythic abilities for an archer (Always a Chance, Brutality Incarnate, Ever Ready)... Basically she turns from a badass ranger into just an average person that can shoot things.
(And on top of that she doesn't even get to keep any equipment she had when she left the party!)
Has anyone here tried walking down the Lich path and just not taking the final transformation?
Nope haven't tried it yet but curious if Owlcat even takes it into account.
How is freeing Arueshalae from Desna’s corruption evil, but freeing the hand of the inheritor from Baphomet’s is considered good?

I'm barely past Drezen, and picked Demon, and now I'm specifically targeted by spoilers such as this.
Also the fact that this needs a guide to begin with is concerning...
I would like evil Arushalae more if they didn't completely prevent her from being romanceable. At least if I am playing a Lich or a Demon there should be something at least you can do. Also Demon Arushalae is like a strait nerf, she gains some stats for loosing all her damage against Demons. Like idk why Pathfinder insists on punishing players for making certain choices.
Like honestly we should get more of a say in a companion's build instead of getting clunky unoptimized mess that barely functions gameplay wise. I still have nightmares about Harrim from Kingmaker and how awful his build was.
Frankly, it sucks that you get Wendulaug - and she's perfectly fine with the Sub life; but if you happen to like Arue - and want to be a demon lord (which would actually match her look) you can't make her a sub and follow a darker romance. Even if you were literally joined at the hip and backs against the world cause everyone else can burn - literally; you are her protection, and she's your girl. Barbie doll made or not. It's one thing I would change for myself, because I find this incredibly short sighted. But then they also put in a respec option that locks you to what level the character was when you got them... I can't say I'm best pleased with that. I'd really rather take Arue as a consort even if I do romance the dark goddess or whatever as a demon lord> king. Have them both be okay with that. It could be shades of Jade Empire, with actual ending slides. There really could have been a couple of decent darker endings to go with. As it stands, I guess I have to stick with my Azata run; and Gold dragon. [What? I want my own wings to pet... since I can't have a winged pet ; ) ]
I'm less pleased about the corruption time counter, and the exhaustion and fatigue. All the puzzles in general - in an rpg. Most DM's won't put more than one or two at best in a campaign, for a reason. I'd have put demigod in as a background that people could just choose to take - and have the "secret" ending not be a secret. It would just be a) can you get to the end of the game, b) do you want to become a god? C) have that be the way to go on to level 50 and create a tie back to King Maker as you carve out your own realm among the gods. I know, most DM's won't run high level or god campaigns, but I think it'd be an awesome means to continue a campaign. So I was kind of hoping since Mythic was hyped so hard, this would be a nice nod. I am at least having fun with the combat... but I'm finding a lot of the minutae frustrating as all get out. Which is actually the tie back to Kingmaker for me lol.
Also, in case no one's said so before now - I've confirmed on a guide to mythic paths that Azata Path does conflict with a Corrupted Arueshalae. (I guess Chaotic Neutral is still too close to good - since Chaotic in and of itself is not inherently Evil, it's just also not Good)
Arueshalae's problem with Azata isn't the alignment it's resentment towards Desna for trying to change her.
@@SlanderedGaming True, but I had to go pretty far out of my way to look that part up. : ) Not sure why she'd want to, other than perhaps turning an enemy into a friend. Little bit of a tyrant in Rainbow Brite's clothing, wasn't she?

That is kind of contradicting as that is exactly what she was before you get her back to her old self.
I will preach this for as long as this game is played, Arushalae is better off not being Desnas puppet as it goes against her nature.
And even though Good and evil are forces of nature in the DnD universe i dont think following your nature is inherently evil. So to me, this is not an evil choice as you are practically freeing arushalae.
Edit: i havent tried, but i think Aeon should be able to recruit corrupted arushalae, since freeing her and having her and going back to her natural way of behavior is a lawful act, and aeon's are lawful and all that.
