  • Project Vinnie's gearbox was cover in oily stuff and we found the source. Here's what we did to fix the problem.
    We used a genuine GM boot kit and the part number for our van was 93160604.

    I have to warn you that I have no formal automotive training, and have just learned by breaking stuff. If you can learn anything from my mistakes then great, but you do so at your own risk!

    Thanks for another great video. I am learning a lot from you. I am 81 but will be checking things under our 2014 Renault Trafic LWB van. I never trusted dealer repairs after my first few years of dealer services when I had my first cars in the 1960s. I found several jobs not done or poorly repaired. Have a nice day.

    After your discoveries in the last video, I went out to look at mine. Fortunately not a drop of oil in sight (or cobwebs!).
    As long as we get the gist of what you are doing, it doesn't matter if we don't see all the moves, your explanations are that good anyway.
    Thanks for your troubles, they help loads for future reference should there ever be a need to get my gut under the van.
    Greets again from 🇨🇭, Steve.

    Just bought a vivaro 2900, 1.9 converted to camper, high top, checked belts, cam belt and pump good but needs alt v belt, been watching all your vids there a great help . I also got oil all over gearbox same as yours was and been wondering where it was coming from i need to investigate while got it up on stands , looks like inner drive boot leaking oil in fact think its on the mot advisory so may have to do the same as you, best check there's oil in gearbox, surprised yours didnt break/sieze up with only about a cup full left in it , ill check it tomorrow. I also need to do a service , watched your video on that too so feel a lot more confident about doing it, thanks for taking the time to vid edit and post its a lot of work on top of the jobs themselves keep doing them bud. A big thumbs up..

    This is very useful as the garage I use told me the boot only came with the drive shaft. Not seperately.
    I think what they meant is the labour charge to fit a new boot and shaft will be less?

    A Haynes workshop manual with all the specs is the best especially torquing all those hub end suspension bolts and the track rod end down and I would have most definitely replaced both boots on that driveshaft and packed the hub end with new grease. Cable ties are a most definite no-no for drive shaft boots.

    Hi Mate, is this Boot called the inner CV boot or is that different? And just to check the bearings are lubricated by the gearbox and don't need Greasing? Cheers!!

    • @LarcsWorkshop
      @LarcsWorkshop  Рік тому

      Inner CV boot, yes. On my gearbox the left hand inner CV is lubricated by the gearbox oil and the boot also keeps the oil in. The right hand has a standard (greased) CV joint & boot, it does have an extension shaft from the gearbox and a carrier bearing too. Mine is an early set up and newer vans might be different?

    I have a question buddy. I have a 2004 Movano that is leaking oil from a driveshaft seal. The main reason for this is that the actual output bearing in the gearbox is worn, allowing the driveshaft to move up and down. Can you change the driveshaft bearings from the outside of the gearbox? (held in by circlips?) or do I have to take gearbox apart?

    • @LarcsWorkshop

    Well I've stumbled across your great video bc I did an oil change and the gb is covered in oil just like yours. Looks like I'll be tackling this job soon then! Do you know if the 2x strut bolts are eccentric and used to adjust the wheel camber?...just wondering if I need to mark the exact position before moving? Thanks.

    • @LarcsWorkshop
      @LarcsWorkshop  Рік тому

      Thanks and good luck sorting it out 🤞. IIRC the bolts are not eccentric but don't quote me on that😁.

      The part number for mine is 93160604 but looking at website Vauxhall.7zap.com there are 2 other numbers listed for the movano:- 916155 & 93180977. You'll probably have to go to the dealer with your vin to make sure you get the correct one. Good luck 🤞.
