Elton can't sing like Freddie, of course - that is not the point. But what Elton does here, is filling the tribute with real, raw emotion. He REALLY knows what the song is about, he lived it.
Elton had to be fighting back tears as he sang this, so brave and amazing. It's an overlooked and quick little line in "Bohemian Rhapsody" (the movie not the song) when Freddie, after receiving that phone call at his birthday party, announces that John Reid is interested in signing the band and he says, "He looks after Elton John....." and Roger, Brian and John about lose their minds with amazement. Because already by 1972/73 Elton was on his way to becoming a huge star.
I can't even imagine the emotion that was being felt by the band members or Elton John singing this song...amazing really no one broke down at all during those tribute. So much respect
No one else but Elton could have sung this song the way Freddie would have liked it..The loss of such a dear friend, pushed Elton to a whole new level of awareness...See Paris .with the band.
I think you should not discuss if it is perfect. Elton never try to cover other people, he only give a tribute to a friend, I see him life when he sang for Freddy and it was magic. The emotion. Please give this your respect not a stupid comment.
I heard today that Freddie had recorded the vocal for this song just six weeks before he died. If you've listened to that vocal, you know it would have been excellent coming from a healthy person. The fact that it came from a man who was on his deathbed makes it beyond extraordinary.
The Innuendo album was released in February of 1991 and Freddie didn’t die until November of that year. So, The Show Must Go On would’ve actually been recorded in either the very early stage of 1991 or sometime in 1990.
@@lukewarren9069 I have to correct myself. The single was released six weeks before Freddie died. The fact remains, though, that he was very weak when he recorded it.
Only Elton John could have done this hard job. It needs a good musical background, a powerful voice, and stage experience. Queen and EJ, they are all great artists.
I'm in tears, people judge Elton's voice but I cannot imagine better person and music together! It's so much more than "who has the best voice"... It's emocional!
Elton is a legend too and he did an awesome job. It's not fair to compare both voices. They're 2 different vocal singers with different styles. Freddie's voice was something out of this world.
Elton is fucking great! PS.: What joy it is to see such a fantastic artist and another masterful musician such as Tony Iommi playing something that's not 100% heavy/dark like in Black Sabbath.
This reflects grief and loss. The show must go on despite wanting to cry and scream with grief. I had 3: subsequent losses in 5 months and it was agony. It still is. But i have to carry on. For my kids who are left ❤
God this song always kills me, knowing the story but also just knowing how we can all relate to just having to pick ourselves up and keep moving forward when times are tough
If Elton had sung this before the 1986 vocal surgery, he'd have nailed it. Sadly, this was in 1992 and his voice had been altered by the surgery and was now too deep to really do this justice. He gives it a bloody good go, but particularly on the bridge, you can see he's straining like crazy to hit notes that years before he'd have had no trouble with.
And yet, I can't think of anyone else who would've given this song the energy it needed to do it (and Freddie) justice! You can really see the raw emotion he puts into his performance!
Show must go on- but for Freddie Mercury-- the show can stop For just a bit--- Freddie and Elton were the best of friends- they had so much love for each other
George. He’d have done it better. He already had three songs though so others had to have a go, but he wiped the floor with everyone with Somebody To Love.

Elton did a great job. It’s not easy singing the music of another iconic artist.
R C and especially on such an occasion!
Especially because Freddie was his friend...
he was close to tears at the beginning. Can't believe the passion he was able to convey afterwards
One legendary singer to another
Its a tribute concert this song wasn't meant for his voice. He did a great job
Elton can't sing like Freddie, of course - that is not the point. But what Elton does here, is filling the tribute with real, raw emotion. He REALLY knows what the song is about, he lived it.
Exactly
You don't get 2 people the same and no one is superior or inferior to anyone else. They are all talented
Elton had to be fighting back tears as he sang this, so brave and amazing. Which never happened, because Reid was never working with Queen until 1975.
stop comparing him to Freddie🙄 sure no one can sing better than Freddie but he still did a fucking great job!!
r.s.b 1997 they ruined the Song...just like Robbie Williams
Elton was so far out of his comfort zone here but had to honour his great friend. Dererved respect.
Right! He looks so awkward without the piano
I can't even imagine the emotion that was being felt by the band members or Elton John singing this song...amazing really no one broke down at all during those tribute. So much respect

Yes he really did.

Never saw Elton sing with so much power, he really gabe it all!!!
That CRUSHING rhythm guitar is unmistakably Tony Iommi. SERIOUS rock royalty on that stage.
ferox965 I thought it was Brian May because I don’t which one you’re talking about
@@fungusamongus9686 Both of them are playing guitar
What a moving performance, you can hear the raw sadness in the vocals and the music. RIP Freddie

Freddie did it all in one take also
Impossible, innuendo(álbum) was released in February 5
The recording was in march between 1989 and 1990
Freddie died in 1991
The Innuendo album was released in February of 1991 and Freddie didn’t die until November of that year. So, The Show Must Go On would’ve actually been recorded in either the very early stage of 1991 or sometime in 1990.

Yes and they were real friends.
Is it okay that I’m crying watching this? The emotion from Queen and Elton John are palpable.
Ilenapieta you’re not the only one. Every time I hear this song, especially with Elton John I have tears in my eyes

Elton is fucking great! PS.: What joy it is to see such a fantastic artist and another masterful musician such as Tony Iommi playing something that's not 100% heavy/dark like in Black Sabbath.
I believe this was shortly after Elton came out of rehab. I remember being surprised at his healthier "look" with new hair.
The press described it as a dead squirrel on his head. After that the wigs got better and people stopped talking about his hair (wigs).
Yes. He went into rehab june 1990 and was clean six months later, but spent a couple years in quiet, setting up his aids foundation
This reflects grief and loss. The show must go on despite wanting to cry and scream with grief. I had 3: subsequent losses in 5 months and it was agony. It still is. But i have to carry on. For my kids who are left ❤
Vocally for Elton this is very impressive. Healthy and emotional
One of the greatest tributes ever sung.
Elton was amazing!!!!
Elton did what he does best; he added his own flare.
Awesome that Elton did a tribute to Freddie, so emotional and he did an incredible job covering this song. Love it😍
I own this entire concert on DVD, and I must say, it's one of my favorite concerts of all time.

Magnifico ...majestuoso ...impresionante ...unico...no me canso de escuchar esta version ..increible !!!!!!!
If Elton did this song 1st, this would be his song. It's impossible to measure up to Freddie's level. The tribute was pretty good
you can hear the pain and emotion in Brian's guitar during the third chorus
Dear God only Elton, Freddy's dear Friend, could step up and Sing this Song to Honor Freddy. Great Job Elton John. Love you Both! 🙏🙏💜💜🙏🙏
