  • This is a broad collection of film from the late 1930s to the early fifties featuring people and varied activities in the Town. Many shots of Water Street and the town centre including the Marina Theatre, Billy Cockburn at his Drug Store, 3 year-old David Graham and his Uncle Jim, a car accident, horse and buggy deliveries, gatherings outside the Kennedy Inn; a view of the old wharf and downtown street-scape from the top of the Town Hall fire tower, the O’Neill Store scales, Ed Finnigan’s Quoddy Coal store, O’Neill family shots, the Wren store and the O’Dell Dry Goods store front, people catching the bus outside “the oldest lunch counter in Canada” and much else with commentaries from a dozen current residents and families.

What a joy! A blessing for my sister and I that our mother, Eleanor Snell was born in Saint Andrews,
Mother was the daughter of Captain H. G. Snell and Clara Ellen Hagan. Siblings were Benjamin Snell
Marguerite Snell, Winnifed Snell and Ed Snell. Sister Joan and I were so privileged to be born into
this very special family of such good people. Uncle Ben might be remembered as the Post Master
for many years. Summers and school vacations were frequently enjoyed during visits with
Pearl and Ben and Gran and Grandpa. For sister and I and our cousins our love for Saint Andrews
has been deep and everlasting. Though we may have lived lives far removed or travelled the world
there has been no other place like our beloved Saint Andrews by-the sea. Thank you so much for
this opportunity to view the town as it was. My sister and I loved that St. Andrews never seemed
to change and that is how it shall remain always in my heart.....Sheila Kelley
