Just like to thank you very much indeed, my mother and her gardener of 17 years, whom I sent here all them years ago,
I’ve returned home after a lot of life, one thing and another, these videos are tremendous, my own mum and Paul have a group chat
I spent time looking for a lawn guru and it’s clear to me, you explain and explore the are of the possibilities in achieving a great lawn
I’d like to thank you, here in Margate east Kent
Also encourage your sponsors to be further supportive in the free online community support
You do it like no other man on the earth
Thank you
Regards Joseph brown
I’m presently super enthusiastic, I’ll be back again in the future and am looking at new equipment,
Not being funny you got great equipment and educate myself as amateur in the way ahead
I’m genuinely grateful, thank you from
My 3 member lawn club
Myself my mum and Paul
I have enjoyed the videos and smashed the like button
Thank you for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed the video
No need to reply, next ten years I’ll share the videos with my 3 member club , my mum myself and Paul my neighbours son
No need to reply, you doing enough already
Thanks so much
I also spread seed by hand Robbie. I enjoy doing it that way and think it’s accurate enough, if you’ve got the knack!
Neil, somettimes people throw the toys out of the pram once I do it lol
Would you put fabric down over seeded area or not needed? Altherantively would you put more topsoil over seed to stop birds?
That's not a yes and no answer.
Covering seed with soil will be a lot better thank not covering it
If you want to use a fleece over the top of that, it will speed up the growth but after a few weeks you would be hard pushed to tell the difference between the two
Using the fleece and no soil, I haven't tested that so can't comment
Broadcasting by hand with these small areas is fine. Great job.
👍👍
Extremely helpful. Thank you.
👍👍👍😊
Great job Robbie 👍
Thanks 👍
Thanks for the comment about high spots. I’ve got a few which I think are old ant’s nests.
Thanks for the great videos. Does it matter that you add the soil directly ontop of the old grass? We have some large bumps and if I can cut existing grass short and add ontop would be a much easier task! Thanks!
Mike, most people will tell you need to dig them out, I never have and it's never caused any issues
Great Video!
Glad you enjoyed it 😁
Crazy amount of thatch...is this predominantly a Fescue lawn...Great content as usual, many thanks
By heck Robbie that is a big lawn! Great content and advice as usual . Pondering now do I do a full autumn renovation or a mini one and do a bigger one next spring
Full now 💪💪💪
@@Premier_lawns_official I sense the force is strong with this one. Clay based lawn 79/30 it will be
@@davel831 think of it as distance learning for the big yts move 😁
How do you fix very large undulations? Also what depth would you class as too deep for this approach?
Here you go ua-cam.com/video/3xzVmX4-STA/v-deo.html
Hi
I recently had the lawn topsoiled. About 2 inches. I reseeded the soil. This was about 5 week ago the grass is growing well and getting quite long. Can I start cutting now and reseed the bald patches?
I have a private group on Facebook called the premier Lawns community. They will be able to help you if you post pictures of your lawn.
i would as long as the grass is 3 inches or taller
great as ever robbie 👍👍👍please could you tell me what the seed was that you used again please?
thanks and best wishes 👍👍
We used a normal grass seed mixture fescue and rye
@@Premier_lawns_official ah brilliant thanks i wasnt sure how you spelt fescue 👍👍time to get cracking now! 😂😂👍👍
What blower do you use , robbie
Surely cutting the lawn before the renovation wouldn't add much cost to the customer, make the overall job much easier for you and improve the quality of the repairs
Mark, I'm not set up to bring mowers to people's property. There is also the cost element too. Besides, the professional level tools get it done regardless
@@Premier_lawns_official thanks Robbie
Should I use 70/30 mix to level if my ground is very clay? 🤔
70/30 would be a good choice if you are looking to level areas
You looked exhausted at the end of this. Must have been hard watching Daniel with that barrow….
It was very warm the day we filmed this. It's not always that easy filming and trying to work at the same time.
Big garden that Robbie!! . We question here, If I was to do a total restoration next spring is it possible to get the same rootzone here in N Ireland as Daniel Hibbert uses?
Thanks in advance.
What rootzone is that?
He uses a crushed red brick and sand then mixes in some compost for a dwarf rye.
@@roberthamilton2334 never heard of that before, probably best to phone the quarries
Hi robbie, would you ever use a heavy roller, then aerate and level?
Not a fan of heavy rollers.
Drone shots are class, aren't they? :)
Hi Peter
I love using the drone, but it really slows everything down. Takes time to set up and get it where you want it, I don't use it as often as I should!
When's the best time of the year to do this?
Spring or autumn, but you can also do it through the summer if you water too
That’s some crappy topsoil lots of rocks! Wouldn’t twice screened topsoil compost be better for the lawn??
It would if I could get it! Can't even get half decent 70/30
Great job mate. Have you much specialist competition in your working radius or are you the go to company ?
Scott, due to the videos, I'm more or less fully booked all the time. I have very limited time for new clients.
I probably should take on more staff, but I like a simple life just under the VAT. Though inflation is making that harder all the time!
The videos are set up as another company and I kind of work part-time between the two, though spend more time working on the lawn treatments as that's the bread and butter.
To answer your question, my SEO is really strong, again due to the videos and there are more other companies doing what I do, there are green thumb and Greensleeves that do well around me and have a very big presence, and probably a lot of the local gardeners watching my videos trying to offer the same services.
There are also a few other lawn care companies that we overlap in some areas, though I don't tend to see them as competition.
The local franchises push through with paid ads, the other local guys probably struggle a little to get noticed but they must be there.
@@Premier_lawns_official your model sounds like it’s working and more staff would probably complicate things. You could have a model for a franchise to take on the big guys though.
How much did you charge for this job mate? I'm thinking of starting my own thing up and was just wondering. Hope you don't think me rude by asking I don't mean to be. Cheers mate
I can't tell you as it wouldn't be fair on the client, but let's break it down
Do you own a scarifier or aerate. You're looking around £100 per day per tool
Do you pay for the waste or are you leaving it there. How much will that cost
A couple of ton of good topsoil, let's say £50-80 a ton plus delivery
Other products and tools, rakes, shovels etc
Need to buy seed and fertilizer
First time doing it? Might take you best part of 2 days. A day at least on your own
Plus a bit of profit on top
@@Premier_lawns_official sound mate. I've got a few tools and a petrol mower no scarifier or aerator. Work for the council doing grounds maintenance but the money's crap lol so I been thinking for a while to do my own thing on the side, start small just grass cutting and general tidying up to start
hey robbie, how long after new grass has started to grow before you can use iron?
@@BrettSucks why? well a lot of autumn/winter fert has iron in it. as does seaweed and other supplements. my new grass is just over seed on the drought affected areas. so i feel it is a valid question.
@@BrettSucks thats a better answer ;) firstly, it is unlikely that i will be using it, but if i do it will probably be as a form of moss control. it may also be useful to help knock back some baby clover i have noticed that seems to be sprouting everywhere. however, i thought it better to ask if robbie had an opinion before i used and regretted it. feel free to pass on anymore lawn tips :)
@foxy new lawns like getting fed, any preseeder fertiliser will do. You will hear lots of folks say about you shouldn't apply ferts in the winter, and while that is generally true, if your new lawn is yellow or has yellow grass blade tips 9 times out of 10 it needs fed
Iron on a new lawn, iron can dehydrate plants (That's how it kills moss, it dehydrates it), so take that thought a stage further. New grass isn't that hardy and strong. Once you apply the iron it dehydrates it and the plant can't cope.
So, it's best to leave the iron off it for a while.
@@Premier_lawns_official thanks big man
Our lawn is so full of weeds and moss that i think it may be a case of re turfing. When is the best time of year to lay turf?
Turfing season is on now but bear in mind you need to water a new turf lawn for about a fortnight to allow the new grass to root. So if you live in an area that has a hosepipe ban don’t do it. Leave it until the ban is over.
@@markwilliamson7846 Ah, OK. Yes, we have a ban here in Sussex. Thanks for the watering tip 👍
Very expensive laying new turf and removing the old. I’d recommend a scarify and aeration, seed, feed and fertiliser. Still have some warm weather left to sort it this year.
@@JC-qf1jd you are right. Turfing is more expensive but the actions you recommend are reasonably advanced techniques and it seems to me the op is a novice, I may be wrong but the post read like it was from a novice.
@@markwilliamson7846 Lawn novice yes. I had do far avoided returfing option as it seemed like a lot of work.
I scarified last year and year before and SO much moss came out. The drought has highlighted how much weed is there.
Id love a lute but you can never find them cheap as second hand ......
Have you licensed that music? If not, should you?
Yes 👍
@@Premier_lawns_official 👍👍👍😊
So, you started with an aerator? Not clear to me…
We were doing a lawn renovation and levelling out the lawn 👍
I'm guessing his company doesn't have to cut the lawn. It's the customer's responsibility to cut it before they get there.
That's correct 💯
@@Premier_lawns_officialQuestion though, when do you recommend leveling with sand? I live in Buffalo, NY (America)
Great videos 👍
