Nice review Mark , I bought one just the same when it first came out did 15 , 000 miles in the first year, road holding on twisty bends was awesome, one of the best bikes I’ve ever owned , so much fun , if and when I have another one I’d stick to the 800 cc model too it was so good , I changed the suspension on mine it really wasn’t so good and made a larger front mudguard to keep the muck off the engine , just remembered I still have the original exhaust system in my garage all boxed up , free to a good home ,
Nice review and nice bike, thanks Mark. I think it's worth mentioning that this engine has belt driven desmo valves (albeit just 2 per cylinder) and they are quite high maintenance when compared to other similar bikes, furthermore, in hotter climates, the lack of liquid cooling means that they sometimes struggle because of the lack of thermal control.
It’s the perfect bike for me, it’s ridiculously easy to ride, so agile and comfortable, the engine is powerful yet delivery is never scary, it inspires great confidence
Great review and update on the 2016 Flat Track Pro model that I have. Mine has abs, cable clutch and throttle, no gear indicator, riding modes, traction control or fuel gauge. I had it new with the racing termi with upmapper. 29,000 miles and love it. Fitted Hyperpro Street Box, but not too impressed with it. Thanks for your help/advice this week Mark. Just taking a breather. Phil.
Watercooling just add weight and complexity Ducati air cooled engines have massive fins and very large sumps they do not overheat even in 40c in Italy. Desmodronic valves hardly ever need adjusting, don't believe what you hear until you own one.
Hi Mark, a motor cycle journalist left us, Suvil Susvirkar of Bikewale. It letting us know that reviewing is not without danger. Very sad news, take care Mark. In any case this was again a nice review.
Looking to change my bike over winter ready for next year and the Ducati Scrambler is on my shortlist. Shame the front light doesn't do that pulsing actually looked pretty cool 😂
I test rode Icon and Monster back to back. Was always planning to get the monster based on all the reviews and it was great, but picked this instead, it’s compact and tiny, and go anywhere. Traded in 690 duke and this is better everywhere except seat comfort which is good for about 2 hrs. Handling is excellent.
superb bike, glad you've managed to have a ride on it, Mark, really appreciate your relaxed reviews. Hopefully you're also gonna ride the bigger scrambler and the Monster, or even the bigger crazier Dukes. you, my friend, are probably not in a busy area.. otherwise your reviews should have more bikes and fans :).
Thanks Mark, I'm glad you showed this bike. I'm getting more drawn to the scrambler style and this seems a stonking bike. I love the looks and the options of coloured plastics is great. I really want to try the Triumph 400 first and then this one to see whether the extra capacity is worth paying more for. The low seat is a very nice touch as these bikes are often too high for comfort for street riding. As usual your chatty and informative style gives all that's wanted in a review, although I'd have liked a bit of gentle "off roading" for this one to make it the perfect test. :>)
I borrowed one off a friend for twenty minutes and l was extremely impressed. I found the Icon too low for me though, and I'd probably opt for the Desertx. Great review as ever.
I like this as a Honda Monkey for adults, always wanted one as a fun bike, mirror extenders, tail tidier and I’d take it to Maxton to get the suspension setup for me. It would be the perfect B roads machine.
The throttle respone an important point as the old classic I had was dynamite off road as the throttle was like a off/on switch, coupled with the low gearing it made your ride interesting off road. Would have being interesting to know how much difference the road mode made to the throttle response & rideability off road. How legible is the screen for the gear indicator-fuel gauge-clock & ambient temp for older pair of eyes?
Really enjoy your films Mark, there aren’t any better actually! It would be really interesting to know what your favourite bikes are and which bikes\bike you own,all the best, cheers.👍😀👏🏍
@@markpulling12 Thanks for taking the time to respond Mark, it’s much appreciated! The three you mention are all quite different, I guess they are for different occasions, perhaps I should tell my partner I need a different bike for each day of the week 😂, I don’t think she’d agree unfortunately, lol👍😀👏
@@antonoat yes exactly that ...hunter is for pottering about on ...duke is my go to fun bike ...and the zx12 r is a classic missile that I've always fancied:) Cheers mark
Trading in the bigger gorgeous 1100 for a new Icon. My friends think I’m crazy. The smaller 800 is just an easier more fun bike to ride in the city. Thoughts?
I used to be super gung ho about the Scrambler as a second bike until the con rod bearings on my Multi turned into confetti at 29k. That was a $9k repair. Also the shock isn't serviceable and there are patches of weird wear on the forks above the seals that caused the seals to leak until the fork was rebuilt 3 times. The wear is still there, just not causing a problem as far as I know right now. I can't give Ducati any more of my money. If I had bought a Ninja 1000 instead it would just be settling in instead of starting to fall apart. I'd suggest an SV650 over this bike.
I wanted a Ducati Scrambler when they first came out. It was going to be my bike to ride around Thailand on. But I've never heard of any owner who hasn't had electrical problems. Regarding this model, the TFT doesn't suit the bike. It needs an offset round dial. I don't like the X on the headlight. It's too expensive. Expensive servicing costs, although my mechanic in Chiang Rai races Ducatis and services his race bikes himself. His charge works out at 2.30 GBP an hour, so servicing costs would be irrelevant here. I suppose I'd still like one, especially in yellow. 1990 [Nick J]
Another good-looking bike,2 personal things I would prefer is a cross bar between the handlebars and add a rear wheel hugger, just from a cleaning point of view😂😂
Does it have a usb charger for your phone on the handlebar? The old one was under the seat which was pretty much useless for keeping your phone charged up on the road.
Nice . Nice to see more scrambler type bikes coming on the market .like a breath of fresh air in the styling . Bit pricey , but it looks like you get what you pay for . Would i buy one ? oh yes if i had the money , and its a Ducati with attitude and looks Cheers Mark , you always give us food for thought .👍
I would like to ask if there is a lot, a little or almost no engine braking. I'm asking because I'm coming from a Street Twin 900 and when you release the throttle there's no engine braking which I find very confortable. Thank you.
Hi no not really Ducati have invested $millions into the development of this and it really shows ...it's a great bike to ride ...price is high but that is the cost for a premium brand Best wishes mark
I cant imagine driving one in UK here in Thailand we drive these at 150 - 220 kmh, The fun only begins when you break the UK speed limit. You use too low revs for this bike it requires 4/5000 - 10,000 rpm. You shouldn't be even near 5th or 6th gear below 100 mph on a ducati desmo driven engine
G'day Mark, l see another test rider layed to bike down, and a bit of damage, pity, although you'll pick that demo up cheeper, that machine would go like shit out of a shotgun, as a modern bike it's top of the range and a the name is a head turner, cost a bit high as it offers the same as many cheeper bikes in this class, cheers mate,Greg review,Neil 🤠.

I had it on my list, as you mentioned I had to pass that and a lack of dealers in my neck of the woods, sure is a nice bike.

Ducati scramblers are so much fun to ride. I have a nightshift and a cafe racer limited (discontinued).
So many 70. Ish bhp lovely bikes out there now. Light and manoeuvrable, economical and powerful enough for uk roads

It's so good looking compared to the competition.
Yes I agree ... it's very cool 😎

A serious motorcycle deserves dual disks up front, in my opinion.

Yeah, no problem with front brake

I do like the looks of it. However, to me, nothing over 250cc should be air cooled in 2023. So I was surprised they didn't liquid cool it this year.
Why not?
All forks are upside down these days so at some point they become the right way up.
I prefer the wheels on the yellow bike.
Great review, Mark. That exhaust looks just stupid.
I think it is to make the oil change easier as previously you had to dismantle the exhaust for the oil change 🙈
@@stoli7 Italian design. I think the risk of getting some burns on the right leg is more important.

Nice bike, first thing that must go is that ridiculous license plate holder.
mm. quite a long wheelbase for a scrambler though... Surprised you never mentioned that?....
Perhaps that's why it feels so good in the twisties.
