Humminbird Helix waypoints, how to find/edit/name waypoints, and change default icon (Sea of Blue)

This Sea of Blue series, parts 1-4, has tons of tips that will enable Humminbird users to better understand editing/naming waypoints, zeroing in on waypoints, how to change the default icon, and much more. The settings you last used should be saved when you go to use your unit the next time.

Is there a way to export waypoints from an excel spreadsheet in a bulk format? I was given a few "Hotspots" from a friend and don't want to spend a day sitting in my boat (On the trailer) thumbing through to enter GPS co-ordinates individually on my Humminbird Helix. do you know if it's possible using any software?

I have always transferred waypoints using sd cards. Humminbird PC might help, if you can get them from the computer to the card you should be good. If you’re going from a competition brand such as Garmin or Lowrance, the waypoints won’t transfer successfully in my experience. From Humminbird to Humminbird you should be fine. In all honesty, I rely on sd cards and create back up cards in the event I lose one or it gets damaged. Storing waypoints on the computer is a smart idea and something I really should play with more. Maybe I will try and make a video at some point on it.

@@stevechiassonfishing5876 No, I mean to change all the icons in the group to the same. Even a select all > edit > icons. I could only see where you have to change them one at a time. That's over 12 keystrokes each.

To be honest I don’t use groups. I did read about groups in the manual trying to find an answer for you and I didn’t see any specific information about changing the icons for the group. If you were starting a new group, changing the default icon would likely be your best bet. That way all items saved in that group would have the same icon. In the manual I did see this...
NOTE: When you add an item to a group, it is a copy. If you make changes to the copy, the changes will be made to all copies. For example,if you change the waypoint icon for a waypoint that is saved in more than one group, the icon will change in all the groups where the waypoint is saved.

The method for selecting an icon image on Humminbirds totally sucks. You have to page through all of the icons one by one to find the one that you are looking for. With Garmin units, you can bring up a picture of all of your icon image choices and then quickly select the one that you want.
