- Today we finally get to installing the Forced Performance 68HTA turbo for the Evo 3. This is the BEST OEM+ upgrade you can do for a DSM/early Evo!

a few things for yeh:
1.) A little tip when removing/installing turbos, remove the radiator to have more room to work with it, this applies to all 1g/2g dsm's and early evo's (1 through 3). Trust me, it's a lot easier to do that, plus, you don't risk the chance of hitting/damaging your radiator by accident
2.) The stock exhaust manifold that you just took off is actually not really prone to cracking, if you notice the bump on the longest runner coming from cylinder one, that's actually reinforcement for the exhaust manifold so that it doesn't crack. It's the same style EM (Exhaust Manifold) that 2G Dsm's use. The 1g dsm EM's don't have that bump and were prone to cracking.
3.) The divider inside the stock EM is actually because of the firing order of those particular motor, so that the exhaust gases don't accidently get pushed back into another cylinder and reduce power. At least with the FP EM you don't have to worry about it because of how the runners flow (which is significantly better). Also, a little trick for more airflow while having stock appearing parts, you can port the EM on the turbo side of it to increase flow
4.) I would HIGHLY recommend running DSM Link (Just personal preference). The guys from ECMLink make DSM Link work with DSM's, Galants and Evo III's.

Easiest way is to just pull the radiator and install the turbo and manifold together.

I work on elevators. Specifically, ripping out old elevators and rebuilding them. Some of them have been running for over 50 years. A good practice that we have is whenever we remove a bolt we re-tap the threads. A practice I’ve carried over whenever I have a stubborn bolt on any of my cars...

I was lost for 2 of the 5 years I was in college and sometimes I still feel that way from time to time but just don’t give up on trying to figure things out, even if you don’t find it now, keep trying and you will eventually! I found my passion in aviation maintenance and haven’t turned back since and I hope you find your place in the world soon too my friend

Congrats on a happy healthy baby! Also when the bolt is stuck in the extractor socket put the threaded part of the bolt in a vice. Then tighten the socket it will slip right off the bolt instead of hammering.

I always pulled the radiator in my Evo when doing turbo stuff. Definitely makes everything much easier
He’s right about the good tools. You might think that good and bad tools are the same but I bought harbor freight sockets and now the end of the 10mm socket is starting to flare out because of how weak the metal is and how much I use it. It’s been like half a year of using ONLY. Save up for good tools!

Love you bro, the advice is great, means a lot as a High School student. Thanks Evan. BTW had a 68HTA from 2015 and they had sold it with a OEM bearing instead of a monster thrust bearing, and had cause the turbo to starve of oil and burn and then break, so be aware of that

FP makes great stuff and they're local near the DFW. I have an FP White getting rebuilt by FP and am currently using an FP Red for my 8.

When I took my exhaust manifold off my evo I sprayed WD-40 on the bolts weeks in advanced. I would spray the bolts, then start the car. Done this quite a few times and the bolts came off so easy.
Alittle trick for u to know about the extractors. If u put the bolt in the vise and turn the extractor left it’ll come off with no problem

Evo 3 was built for homologation, 5000 were built between January 1995 and August 1996, for unknown reasons these are the hardest to find. It is likely that the majority of these 5000 cars were RS versions built for club rallying and are still in competition or have been destroyed in accidents. An Evo 3 GSR is a rare find.
But, if you come to Malaysia you will find there is so many Evo 3…they were all converted from Proton Wira actually…🤣
It has the same chassis as the lancer version.

If those are the bolt removers that look rifled just put the bolt in the vise and tighten them they release their grip then
Get one of those bolt busters speed academy uses, they're are really good for difficult rusted bolts

Lol I just did similar in my last video. Had to pull off my FP manifold and man that one corner stud is a PAIN. i was considering a stud too haha cus i cut off the bolt head.Took multiple weeks of weekend work to get that done and header painted and cleaned up! didn't even take off the turbo and was painnn lol

To all my seniors in high school out there who just graduated, don’t be afraid to take a leap of faith. I did, I graduated Navy bootcamp last week. 1 year ago today I decided I was going to put my academics on pause and join an organization bigger than me. Now, I am a bigger and better person than who I was. Not just physically, but mentally. To add, that fp manifold is going to cost you some bottom end power. Also the newer 68hta’s are kinda enh. The quality isn’t what it was years ago and they have a dash of lag. The evo 3 16g is perfect for the short evo gearing.
