Hello, I am just here to give you some facts, the ones who took you were the participants of the trans-saharan s|ave trade, which was going on for centuries before the Europeans even made contact. The participants were Arabs and large African Kingdoms who ens|aved surrounding weaker tribes and desolated entire eareas. Europeans would then come to the coast, where the participants of the trans-saharan trade would trade their s|aves for Europeans goods.
Africans that had gold would trade gold for European goods, areas that had no natural resources would trade people for European goods. It wasn't until the abolitionist movement and a treatment for Malaria was discovered that Europeans actually entered Africa and established colonies who's main purpose was to abolish s|avery, but of course traders ended up taking advantage of the local popualtion and resources.
Thank you...and our parents never shared. The Ancestral pain must have been overwhelming for them. My Mom transitioned last year at age 99. We honor our parents and likewise our Ancestors. What a Legacy! Ma'at
Interesting history concerning the African slave trade. I was aware of it, but didn’t realize there were so many African tribes which were taken as captives/slaves. Thank you for this video, this is history that needs to be remembered.
It’s because Africa (West Africa especially) was actually separated by tribes. The Europeans grouped a lot of them together and called them Nigeria, Ghana etc.
You have used the right phrase of words taken from Africa because we were indeed taken and stolen from Africa and branded and just so many things and you use the right
Your teacher is paying attention! This is more accurate than I have ever seen in a classroom...not that there was much African history in my HS classes, in the 1990s! We need to see all of the racism BS, today, for what it is(political agenda) and move on from it for good. Classrooms require a balance of classic, medieval, and ancient history, from the entire world. It's a beginning of building respect and administration for people who are different, or even for your own people!
Sounds like Black Washing...listen what he said many slaves went to South America not North because they were run by Spanish hince why people in South America speak spanish
I'm from the Congo "bakongo" few years ago my grandfather told us of his uncle and his uncles friend who traveled to do business in the neighboring town and never came back. They asked everyone in that neighboring town but they all said that they left few days ago, slave trade was very common during those times so the whole family feared that they've been taken. They never stopped searching for them and up until now my grandfather who's in his early 90s still asks us his grandkids to continue spreading this message hoping that one day he'll hear some good news.

I've been telling people this for years. Its simple logic. Abyssinians travelled across the continent, tribes were in disagreement etc so not all slaves that were captured originate from West Africa, it's just simple logic. I love when other people mention this. There's alot more that went on.
I can related to your story. I am from the Kongo, Luba-Katanga(we all come from Kongo Kingdom). My mom told me a story that her grandfather had a brother that went on business in a neighboring village and never returned. He said he knew he was sold as slave, till the day he transitioned he was grieving his brother. My great grandfather and mother used to record our history, think those audio tapes are with one of my uncles.
Jayjay Isaiah Barack Obama's father was Luo Nilotic, but Obama is married to a woman of West African descent and his children are of West African descent but it doesn't mean anything because West Africans are actually of East African origin and they first started settling in West Africa some 7,000-6,000 years ago when the Sahara started drying up.

Not the first people whose leaders sold them out (in this case literally) and won't be the last. Two of the things the Europeans were trading for slaves: guns and booze. Also cotton cloth.
@Y.H.A A yes, and it's doubly a universal law when certain people groups oppress so many other people groups. For example, the U.S. has a history of oppressing Native Americans, Asians, Blacks, and it dropped the bomb on Japan (Hiroshima), stole California from the Mexicans (paid a cheap price for it); don't think these people groups will not turn on the caucasoids when the time is right.
Even though I am a Kru from today's Ivory Coast, I really admire both the Yoruba and Igbo people of today's Nigeria. They are both strong West African tribes with a very rich and highly spiritual culture. African cultures and tribes are strong and beautiful.

That's exactly what I think. As a black man, it's said that the true history of the slave trade is NEVER taught. You know...the part where black Africans, sold millions of other black Africans to the European slave traders. The Trans Atlantic Slave Trade would not have been possible without that aspect of it. We need to teach REAL history to people. And that goes for EVERYBODY. We need to teach what really happened throughout history, and stop trying to distort it, change it, or omit it, in order to not offend people, or tell people what they want to hear.
@@Ispeakthetruthify Exactly pal.It was a triangular trade. Unfortunately all the chiefs of Africa had as worthy currency at the time where other enslaved Africans.
@@Ispeakthetruthify the trades amongst African natives already existed and totally different system. The natives served as servants and status could change by marrying non servants, buying, appeal through court or free children etc. it was never by choice and usually by survival. The middlemen were also subjected to deceit. No one was without capture and middlemen from history several rebellious attempts against the Europeans. You may want to dig in deeper and look up historians like Walter Rodney and read sins of fathers James pope Hennessy. You need additional resources to stand on what you said. It would be simple to ignore such a misconception if it were merely held by the bigoted oppressors, but the racist historical experience has implanted the same negative self-evaluation in the minds of many Africans, and especially in the minds of the imitative African petty bourgeoisie.” I will forever quote this historian as well as author. He was assassinated...should assassins you ask you know. There were authors as well forced to change the narrative and Blame slave trade on African chiefs such as James pope Hennessy-"sins of our fathers. I could be in a store and be the only black person there. I remember visiting the US almost 10 years after I’d been living in Canada and seeing black people in Detroit. You should have seen me beaming from ear to ear. Just happy to see them. Some were probably freaked out at me. I felt like screaming ‘THESE ARE MY PEOPLE.’
If you're black nobody from Detroit was freaked out by your presence. Black people are use to seeing other black people in a city like Detroit. Canada is not America and I believe the black population there is no more than 2 to 3 percent. and Though America has never been more than 13 percent black,. Detroit is a city that has a high concentration of black folks. So it would seem like there are more than a 12 to 13 percentage of blacks there and that we all live in Detroit, MI in the States, which isn't true. Where you land does have an impact on your perception.
@B45 respectfully, you may wanna rethink this one. When you live in a place where people gawk at you for how different you are everyday, to see a familiar face who's different like you is more comforting than you could ever know. It's not like OP is saying they were incapable of feeling love and empathy for all people, but that it was a relief to no longer be a spectacle among other people. To feel normal in any aspect is a blessing that isn't understood until you lose it.
Just found your channel this morning and I'm impressed fam. Most pro-black African history channels focus too heavily on Egypt when in reality us "African-Americans" dont descend from Egypt directly. How do we focus on Egypt whites focus on Egypt because they try to tell every us that nappy cornrow hair and dark skin is a caucasian trait they love confusion
Wrong my sister. Slaves were snatched all over Africa, however do understand you get confused due to the English Language, but you should know when Europeans arrived Africans had their own Languages and Cultures, even Religions, God knew them and they knew God. Christianity and Islam is not Black people's religions, that's why is important to know who is saviour and our Prophet, Mfumu Kimbangu Mvuluzi, through him all blacks will be blessed.
I don't know what all over Africa is. Slaves to the Americas came from the west. Slaves from the east and North went elsewhere (Euope and Modern day Middle East) Southern Africa never really enslaved anyone. South Africa's slaves came from Asia and the San tribe

As far as the creole language , while certain regions in Haiti speak creole a little more “ raw “ than others who speak it closer to French idk it’s definitely a broken French more than anything , one thing that’s funny though everywhere creole is spoken even African countries etc we can somewhat understand each other.
dave lopes yes I’m Haitian I know this lol. Creole is a mixture of all the languages around us at the time , some words are Taino , some are a broken French , Portuguese , Spanish even English it’s a mixture some words might be from different African tribes.
According to the history, Haitians are not only from Fon Tribe, but, also Igbo, Yoruba, Fulani. Etc...During the time of the colonization, they used to put different tribes together in the fields in order to avoid insurrection of the slaves. If the slaves would speak the same language, so, they would understand one another, then, they could easily plot against their masters that especially didn't understand their language.

Thanks for sharing. Although I'm surprised that while discussing about the Igbos, you left out the historic Igbo Landing incident in the US. I'm not Igbo, I'm Yoruba but I'm proud to say that incident speaks to the bravery of the Igbo people.
This video was really good! Good to hear some discussion of the Congo trade. The discussion often focusses on the West African trade, but Congo was a truly horrific free-for-all of slave raiding and it deserves to be discussed more. Congo had the double misery of domestic slavery after the international trade too, where the Europeans enslaved Congolese people in Congo for rubber
I'm Mexican, but on my mother's side I have ancestry from the Angola/Congo region. In Veracruz, where my grandfather was from, there is an iconic heroe known as the "First Liberator of the Americas", Gaspar Yanga, whom I idolize the same as Pancho Villa or Emiliano Zapata. It is rumored, one of Mexico's greatest presidents, Vicente Guerrero, is of African descent. Guerrero abolishing slavery in Mexico in 1829 coincidentally I think further cements this claim.
Ezethegreat One read my comment thoroughly before giving me a reply. Because you are saying "the assessment was wrong" like my family members (not taken literally as in I am Fulani descent but I speak a similar language branch as them) that they had the power to defend against it or could have prevented it and decided based on their own free will to initiate what has happened. [edit]: And if you want to defend Home Team history on his claim then please I also forward this challenge to you as I did proposed to him.

Thank you for mentioning the Arab slave trade. My father’s family are descendants of West African and Sudanese Fulani people taken to Morocco and they are part of the Gnawa ethnic group who sing about their struggles and slavery
I am from Trinidad and Tobago. My great grandmother was an Amerikin or slaves who fought in the Civil War and were given their freedom and land in the colonies such as Trinidad. I was told as a small child that we were from the Housas Tribe. It was passed down in the family. I didn't hear you mention that tribe.
Yeahh, the Hausa are mostly found in Northern Nigeria, Benin, Sudan, Ivory Coast etc...In Nigeria, they are usually grouped in with the Fulani Tribe as they have for the most part blended in.
Hausa tribe is big tribe in Nigeria and they are spread across Nigeria, Cameroon and some other countries in west Africa. But they more concentrated in Northern Nigeria.
I see so many of my African friends in these varying tribes. I was uneducated about all the tribes as a kid and now I find it so beautiful to see how our facial features differ vastly from tribe to tribe. Whoever said we all look the same, didn’t look close enough!
You are right. I am a Nigerian, and I can predict Africans by looking at their features. Most of us Africans have distinctive features different from one another from North Africa, Central Africa, West Africa, East Africa, to Southern Africa.
I thoroughly enjoyed this video! I found myself trying to match features of certain tribes to people we see everyday. Now, in America, black people are all one tribe - the same tribe. I try to remember this and carry it with me everyday. In this land, we all represent each other.
I enjoyed it to and he did the best he could by researching and finding some facts to create it. I was intrigued by many of the different nose structures. People always think that Brown/Africans have a particular nose structures. The video showed that we have wide noses... medium structured noses..etc. Many of our brown Americans favor individuals in this video!!!
I have been to Africa (Senegal) a few times. One thing that struck me were the faces were faces I had seen before. Also when I began to recognize different features of the tribes in Senegal, I felt a sense of pride. I even learned to speak Wolof fluently. Every black American should go at least once.
After finding out about my ancestry, this video has widened my curiosity to learn more about my ancestors since it's been such a mystery for years. Glad I came across this video.
@@olabobo9594 Sure! Most of my ancestry comes from Sub-Saharan Africa (West Africa), While the other part (due to the assault of the African women during the slave trade) is Northwestern Europe.
Great video! I’m from Angola 🇦🇴, I’m both Ambundu (Mbundu) & BaKongo (Mukongo)... I lived in the USA 🇺🇸 for about 23 years and I’m now back in Luanda (since 2008). I’ve been saying this for many years, but people wouldn’t believe me... It’s true, Ambundu & BaKongo is everywhere in Brazil and USA. True and also very sad.

You are lucky to come from a country full of black people because you were allowed to preserve your culture whites in America seek to diminiah in culture from black Americans or make a profit from it.
Yaa Moremi Queen yeah but can't put all the blame on them though being a minority can be hard if you're not strong you will lose your identity. That is one of the reason that it's in the benefit of every black people not born in Africa to go visit the continent to help strengthen their identities
She is going to rise again brother because the new generation of Africans on the Continent are demanding to know what really happened. Don't forget that right after the independence of the majority of African countries in the '60s, the real history of colonialism and slavery was hidden from lots of post-independence Africans. But today, the youth are saying no, they want to know the real history of what happened to their peoples. So, I am really convinced that Africa will economically be strong again; and will also make all her children from within as well as the ones outside the Continent strong and proud. It's now a matter of when not if. Peace to you and we hear you.

I thought they were complicit in the selling of slaves, Thomas Sowell.

Before you grand daddy transitions, you need to talk to him as much as possible and record his words. Once he is gone, the knowledge is gone. Then you have to pass it on to your generations. The BaKongo was a major population in AA culture.

Ahhhmazing. I’ve slowly become very interested in black history! As an American who went to public school this was definitely not something they taught. I have children now and I want them to learn more than the watered down versions of the mostly all white history. There’s so much more to history than what we learned and it’s interesting and important to learn.
Black America looks like every one of these tribes!!
Exactly what I said!
Jerry Rice nope were already n America dont look African in America. We have our own look. But we do business with the african continent
They do favor us and not the typical African however, let’s keep straight, blacks born in America are the biblical Israelites and are not Africans . Can we agree ?

As a white man, I am fascinated to learn history of African people without only hearing about colonialism. There is so much diversity and richness to uncover, from before and after European people terrorised them. We are never taught even the names of the biggest ethnic groups in Africa, and I had to teach myself where the countries all are.
Thank you for giving such detailed history to us for free! It is what makes the internet a miracle, and I am very grateful!
To help you out direct quote from Walter Rodney "“A racist streak is never far from the surface in bourgeois presentations on the problems of development, because non-European people are equated with backwardness and stagnation, while progress in uniquely European. Yes a known fact historians were told to focus on the native Africans being the main contributors of the slave trade.
I have been to Africa (Senegal) a few times. One thing that struck me were the faces were faces I had seen before. Also when I began to recognize different features of the tribes in Senegal, I felt a sense of pride. I even learned to speak Wolof fluently.
Every black American should go at least once.
I'm from the Ìgbo Tribe this the first class true documentary I have ever seen concerning slavery. You're absolutely correct, my opinion
After finding out about my ancestry, this video has widened my curiosity to learn more about my ancestors since it's been such a mystery for years. Glad I came across this video.
Can you share a little bit of your ancestry?
True and also very sad.
inovArtesMediaLda inovArtes They didnt believe that they were from the Bakongo? That is weird. That is a generational self hate.
I am in also from Angola living in Angola, can we meet up to discuss some of this history?
Sure no problem... Hit me up on Messenger / Patrice Ngangula De Lemos
I hope one day Africa can become economically stronger than it is now that will greatly help our people
She is going to rise again brother because the new generation of Africans on the Continent are demanding to know what really happened.
@@doctordodo3742 Thanks for your comments. Very encouraging and liberating. African Americans are demanding to know our history as well. "We Will Overcome!"
Africa must Unite into one country.
Not so long as it’s principle populated with Africans. There’s a reason modern Africans want to go to the west.

How are you african American if you’re Fulani??
African Americans are descended from transatlantic slavery in the USA. You are not. Therefore you’re not african American.
