Guys... There are no CG hairs in those shots😊 The movie came up in 1998. The first big hair simulation was made for Monsters ink in 2001. And it was cartoon with no live action scenes😂

"According to Terry Gilliam's commentary on the Criterion Collection DVD, they shot this scene a few months after the scene where they first picked him up, and could not get Maguire to shave his head for the wig. It would have cost $15,000 extra to put that in his contract initially, but they opted not to, because the movie was already becoming over budget. They ended up spending well over that using a bald cap and make-up effects, as well as using computer editing to erase the line on his forehead." from IMDB.

The hair on Tobey Maguire can't be CGI. It came out in 1998. The best CGI at that time was Titanic and Godzilla, and today they are obvious when it's CGI. Also hair is one of the biggest challenges of animation, and Monsters Inc was the first realistic CG hair 3 years later. Its a bald cap and a wig

In Star Trek 5 the prop department came up with a self-lighting cigarette. It tooks months and cost about 5 thousand dollars. They never used it in the film.

The film industry need to go back a few steps and bring back practical FX. Having special effects that are done in-camera ALWAYS hold up better than any CGI garbage to this very day. I wanted a career in a model shop back in the day. Now that I think about it, maybe I'll start kit-bashing again.

Wrong, everyone knows Stanley Kubrick wasn't happy with how the effects looked and was such a sticker for detail that he had his team build an advanced space shuttle and space station because he had to film on location, same happened when he was hired for teh Apollo missions, they had to go to the moon in order to stage them.
