I build wooden crates and put them in shallow water. You can access them instantly as digging all the time is annoying. Your feet get wet though so have a pair of wellies stashed nearby if your spending a lot of time in water!

It will stay there, so if you die or log off, then go back to that same spot, you can dig it up again. Just make sure you are on the same server that you buried it.
@@Nitno it's easy to miss, so many random things you can do in this game. I just figured out that I can fill barrels and put full barrels on my trucks, greatly increasing my looting capacity.. with four full barrels and four full crates plus a full cargo area that's 1400 slots! I even go a step further and fill my cargo area with six sea chests so that I can organize my bounty as I go and easily put things away categorically when I get back to base. I don't know if this is how you're supposed to play this game, but that's how I'm doing it LOL
As someone who struggles with base building, stashing your items you’ll need near an area you wanna build a base. This way if you die you have your items in a potential safe location and majority of your base building materials. The issue with playing as a stash player is when you die finding a shovel/pickaxe/hoe is most frustrating thing ever. I’ve literally spent 3 hours before just looking for any of the 3 and as soon as I found a hoe I get shotgun 3 houses down by a camper. Playing as a stash player can be a good idea but on vanilla servers (or any hardcore type) you’ll find this a frustrating tactic as from experience finding any of the 3 can lead to frustration if you’ve been looking for hours like I did only to die afterwards. Also make sure your stash locations isn’t across the map! They’re easily forgettable, and if you die you may have a long long long journey for your stash with also finding the optional 3 items, as well as players, wolfs etc. keep them somewhat close to spawn locations as if that odd chance you get any of the 3 items then it’s a blessing. It’s pretty much a roll the dice whilst playing the stash tactic, but it really good for stashing gathered base building supplies especially those are what usually are hard to come by.
Depending on the location of my stash, I will build a crate for tools and put it in the water or in an inconspicuous spot. That way I don't have to hunt down digging tools. I've had location where I have buried ten or more crates in a large radius, and I'll have digging tools at my disposal. I typically only bury high tier loot. The rest is in above ground stashes. Buried stashes have a shorter despawn timer than above ground.

Step 1: Find barrel Step 2: Stash barrel in water (hidden) on beaches next to docks and stone walls for concealment. Step 3: Repeat until you have a starting stash in each coastal town.
I've been playing the game for like 2 weeks on many different servers I've only found 1 barrel in all this time and that's playing boosted servers too 😢
I feel like the most effective way is to just put crates in a pond that way you don’t need a shovel and as long as they’re far enough out nobody can find them by fishing or filling up water they’d have to go into the pond
Will any of these methods keep loot from despawning? And if so, for how long? I thought the only way to stash loot safely was with a flagpole and raised flag. Please help the noob. 😀
All these methods will last many days. The flag poll's function is to refresh the timer on all items in a radius. So let's say a 3 stashes that would last 14 days, If you DIDN'T have a flag poll, you'd have to go and touch each stash to refresh the de-spawn timer before the 14 days are up. hey man, question..... so im somewhat new to dayz but can hold my own. im all military geared with a FULL inventory. i dont have room to carry a shovel for stashes:( what do you suggest i do
Next time you are in a town and find a shovel, make a stash right there and then. Example, find a shovel but leave it there, search local area for a backpack. Put backpack in your hands, run back to the shovel. Offload some loot into the backpack and bury it with the shovel. That's just a really basic idea, but it'll free up some bag space to make up a better solution for the long run. (make sure to mark your spot on a map or screenshot it).

So the way it works, if you leave items on the ground, they will despawn within the day or so. BUT if you build a flagpole, with the flag raised it will keep even items on the ground from despawning. Easiest route would be to make a wooden crate.
I made my first improvised shelter today. I hope it’s in a good enough place it’s not far off of a path but if anyone were walking the path I doubt they would see it. I also set up a garden a bit away however if this doesn’t despawn or my fire place kept burning after I logged out I may in trouble. I did keep mostly everything on me tho incase someone found it. When you log out tho does your shelter disappear until you log back in and then it’s on the server for all to see? Or is it just always there on that one server? Shoot now I just thought of something… do I have to log into that exact same server to find my base?!
It is on the server for all to see, and lives in the world when you are logged out. Also yes you need to go into the same server. You may find it in your "recent" tab if you forget the server name.
@@MrChangeordie it despawns after 45 days I believe is the time, not a couple days.. I have been using the same shelter and burying stuff all around it still and there’s been quite a few times where I hadn’t played in 3 or 4 days.

Aren't drybags the only thing you can bury without your items taking damage? Was I told wrong? Also, does storing things in ponds cause the items inside to get wet?

Thanks for the tips! I’m newish to dayz, on PS4. I have a lot of tents and barrels stashed in the woods all over the map. I’ve noticed I’m having some lag issues around certain tent bases I’ve set up. I have barrels in some of my tents. Is there any particular reason why it lags? Sometimes it lags worse in bases where I’ve got a lot less stashed than in other places
Good question, I don't know for sure. I can only assume if there a very large amount of items are in one place, maybe the server or maybe it's the console is struggling a bit to load all of them in immediately and lagging. I don't have any proof to back this up though, just a though.
@@Nitno thanks man, appreciated. I’ve since heard that apparently it might be to do with bags or other gear that holds inventory, being stored inside a barrel, inside a tent that might be the problem.. when I can deal with the lag I will further investigate and let you know what I find.

@@Nitno only thing that knows I'm there are wolves. And if I'm quiet it can take them a while to find it. Have seen them sniffing and crouched stalking past my location.
I know I can't ask you to return to this old video and answer my question, but, I'd be so helpful if you did (plus, I did give you a Thumbs up too, ahahah). Its real simple: Say I'm playing in a COMMUNITY SERVER (not official). Now, say I have a wooden crate I'm willing to dig a hole and hide it in. Would this crate de-spawn after the server resets? Would I lose everything I hid there, or, can I log-off in peace and find everything safe there, when I return? Thanks again for the great video!
Any community server that has the ability to make crates would likely have the same de-spawn timer (14 days). Any server that wouldn't want crate stashes would likely just take take nails out of the server to prevent crafting crates. So yes you should be able to log out in peace and come back to your buried crate. If it's not there when you come back the next day, someone found it, or the server had a rollback / other issue.
@@Nitno I see. Makes sense. My plan is not to keep a stash buried forever, but only keep a temporary spot to gather logs/stones/nails in order to build a regular base. I play in a PVE server which allows for PVP on specific ocasions, and raiding/griefing is prohibited, so, all I'd need is a small house to keep crates. One buried stash would be all I need to build things up till the base is ready. Thanks a lot, Nitno!
Hey Andrew, interesting idea. I think it would be a little difficult but doable. Basically the loot economy is more so split into Loot Zones, the more NorthWest you go the better the loot. I could see a video where I go over the basics though to explain how it works.
Yeah ive never tried to raid a base, i play solo and im new to the game only 2 weeks in. Its still so much i haven't crafted yet. I had to come make sure stashes wasnt a mod 😂
Nope they stay through server resets. Only time they despawn is if their timer runs out or a major patch gives a full wipe (rare, usually with very big updates).
I have not had the opportunity to do this yet, but I imagine its the same as any backpack or secure box. Hold the crate in your hands, go to the item in inventory that you want to add to the crate and hit B to combine. The item should move into the crate then.
Buried usually 2 weeks. Server resets do not erase the loot BUT major updates will sometimes Wipe stashes / bases but the devs let the community know if thats the case ahead of time.

(Edit) disregard this question it’s just now letting me take them off with my own hands I had to relog a few times but we are all good now 💯.
DayZ freshy here. Nitno your vids have been key to my improved game play. I'm currently following your Elektro to Tisy loot run path right now, I'm currently at Starry Sabor. Here is my question concerning this video. If I bury a crate on say Server 4464 and I leave and go to server 4450 and the next day I come back to server 4464, will my crate still be there as long as no one dug it up? What if the server resets, does it delete my crate? Right now I am so loaded down with equipment my stamina bar is at like 20%. It would be nice if I could store some of this stuff for safe keeping as long as I don't lose it.
Yep if you bury it on 4464, switch to 4450, then go back to 4464 it will still be there I think for 14 days max. Dig it back up and re-bury it to refresh the timer. Official servers only usually wipe on big official patches, and the develops will let us know on their Twitter.
@@Nitno so can you save anything on a big wipe or does it zero everyone out? Or would you need to exit the server with the crate in hand in order to save it from the big wipe?
@@SimpleMan-rx1uo Good question, yep a Wipe zeros everyone out to nothing. We are all in it together though. The only exception is in some cases a Community Server can choose to wipe or not, but most wipe with the major official wipes.

@@Nitno ok, hopefully I can find the server. Thanks man!
@@LJT9393 Good luck!
All good till you log in and your tent not there cause it despawn after a couple days u not being there
@@MrChangeordie it despawns after 45 days I believe is the time, not a couple days.. I have been using the same shelter and burying stuff all around it still and there’s been quite a few times where I hadn’t played in 3 or 4 days.
It's kinda storage related. When you make a fire and add stone to make a stone ring, will that fireplace disappear?
I believe it simply gets upgraded without deleting what is in it. I'd play it safe though and take things out, maybe put a rag in it, then test if it's still there after upgrade.
Maybe this is a dumb question But can stuff that you hide or store somewhere carry over from one official server to another?
Nope it's just on that one specific server
Aren't drybags the only thing you can bury without your items taking damage? Was I told wrong?
Also, does storing things in ponds cause the items inside to get wet?
I am not aware of things taking damage when buried, nor getting wet.
@@Nitno okay. I've read and heard both sides of the concept claimed so I guess I'm gonna test it with some trash loot. Appreciate the reply.🤙

Good thinking! Yep when I go solo, I mostly bury my gear.
How long is improvised shelter on the server before it despawns?
7 days I beleive, but each time you interact with it, the timer refreshes.
does the dirt pile disappear after awhile or is it always there?
Always there
Thank you for an informative video!
Anytime! Thanks for checking it out!
Great music chill vibes 👌👍
Thanks Meatball! :)
Nice video, it helps wel!
Love to hear it!
When you Bury things how long does it take for you stuff to despawn if their not regularly visited?
About 14 days, but I get paranoid and try to touch them to keep the timer refreshed.
Such a Great Community here...!...
Yes indeed! :)
@@sharmalarm Awesome, best of luck.
To be honest, the lag is what has made me find some stashes.
Welcome to yer new life!
Do buried wooden crates get reset after a certain amount of time?
14 days, interacting with it (dig up, look inside, re-burry) will reset the timer.
@@Nitno good to know!!
I've been hiding in Tisy military with stick tents, camo netting and barbed wire. Nobody has found it in a little over a month. Just unburied my loot to prepare for update wipe
thats legit haha

Does it bother you despawn eventually? After a week or so?
It depends the storage type. Typically underground is 14 days, above 45 days.
Idk if its my server. But when i burry stuff it disappears.. even crop plots
That is odd, it should stay there for 7 days. Make sure to validate your types xml file.
@@Nitno i dint specify im on xbox. Idk of that matters
i love this man
Haha thanks Tekktori!
I know I can't ask you to return to this old video and answer my question, but, I'd be so helpful if you did (plus, I did give you a Thumbs up too, ahahah). Its real simple:
Say I'm playing in a COMMUNITY SERVER (not official).
Can you please do a video describing what type of loot spawns in different buildings?
Hey Andrew, interesting idea. I think it would be a little difficult but doable. Basically the loot economy is more so split into Loot Zones, the more NorthWest you go the better the loot. I could see a video where I go over the basics though to explain how it works.
@@Nitno wow u actually responded ! Lol cool yeah I’d definitely check that out
How long can they stayed buried will things get damaged?
I believe 14 days
@@Nitno thank you
Yeah ive never tried to raid a base, i play solo and im new to the game only 2 weeks in. Its still so much i haven't crafted yet. I had to come make sure stashes wasnt a mod 😂
Yep stashes are vanilla! Good luck out there!
Do these things despawn during a server reset or?
Nope they stay through server resets. Only time they despawn is if their timer runs out or a major patch gives a full wipe (rare, usually with very big updates).
How do you put your goods into the crate on xbox?
Sorry I only have PC, hopefully someone sees this and can help!
I have not had the opportunity to do this yet, but I imagine its the same as any backpack or secure box. Hold the crate in your hands, go to the item in inventory that you want to add to the crate and hit B to combine. The item should move into the crate then.
How long do tents last on servers?
45 days
Great video thank you
Anytime!
How long does it stay burried for before deletes
14 days
@@Nitno it resets when u log in or dig it
@@Deadmatt777 It'll refresh the timer whenever you interact with it, so yeah digging.
How long do items stashed in vehicles last?
I believe they last indefinitely until the car is ruined or despawned.
Hey bro how long does it last? Do server resets erase’s the loot too? Im in console
Buried usually 2 weeks. Server resets do not erase the loot BUT major updates will sometimes Wipe stashes / bases but the devs let the community know if thats the case ahead of time.
Thanks for the reply I’m new to this game so far I’m loving it, found it fresh as the game market today is full of boring stuff. Great vids by the way🎉
I’m new to Dayz and loving your videos so I feel I can ask you this, how do you get Christmas lights off of a canopy tent? I tried the wiki but I couldn’t find anything about specifically removing the lights . (Edit) disregard this question it’s just now letting me take them off with my own hands I had to relog a few times but we are all good now 💯.
Glad you figured it out! Thanks for checking out the videos :)

Thank you B!
Can you store items in crafted tent?
Yes should be 80 slots
@@Nitno Thanks, seems setting one or two up near a small, lesser traveled town in the forest would work well.
@@mhaas281 Yes indeed!
If you are on a modded server and do this will it work
It sure will! The only curveball I could see is they may have their own timers on how long storage items last.
@@Nitno perfect thanks for that I will keep that in mind 😀
Placing any of these items in clothing or backpack acts like a stash. You can't bury this stash but it works great in high reeds.
Nice idea!
@@Nitno also wearing these in the inventory will make your clothes/backpack act like a stash if u die. This will negate the 1h despawn timer and if the outer textile is ruined.
@@Nitno in certain places in the water or swamp you can walk out in shallow areas and make stashes. Right on the edge of where it makes you swim. The some marsh areas with high reeds make great stashes. Their r secret spots in some bodies of water that let you walk out very far. Most people will swim over them, unless you take the specific path.
Well hidden water bases are op and have been very effective for me, as a lone wolf.
Just to clarify: you mean if you put a yellow container in a shirt it will remain there for a set amount of time? How long?
You're missing the ammo box by the way you can also berry the ammo box

Welcome to DayZ! You can usually find shovels in sheds and farm looking buildings.
Is there a way to store backpacks?
You can empty them and place them in another storage. Other than that, they will last some hours on the ground, but likely despawn by the time you log in the next day
