It's because of this video that i learned most spanish classical guitars don't have truss rods!! and the nut isn't glued in either, this is so fun to learn! I have been fixing mine and all my friends' electric guitars and basses for a long time but i've never been confident enough to try acoustic or classical guitars, but watching you has really helped give me that confidence!
Tanya, this is one of the best classical guitar re-fret videos I've seen.Your skill and attention to detail is superb. Also your filming is so clear and precise.Fantastic.All the best.👍
She does all this tremendous work and puts all this effort in and you’re asking her to do more?! Shame on you. If you’re not satisfied with her great efforts, maybe you should ask yourself why you keep taking and taking, rather than being appreciative.
I appreciate you commenting on why you had to do the work on this neck, because of the shape that it was in. It's always great to learn new things. Someday I will tackle the job of refretting my PRS SE custom 22 semi hollow body.
Love your videos. Love watching on UA-cam guitar builders, building guitars. I’ve been messing around with them for 45 yrs, I have 1978 d28 Martin 2012 d45 my wife bought me. both bought new. So this just totally amazing and awesome to watch. I’ll watch your videos and look for new ones to come. Have a great day
Absolutely beautiful work on a wonderful instrument, 🙋♂️ watching this reminds me of studying at the Museum.... I'm inspired to take my most precious Lumber to build a beautiful home studio... and I know you could do it also dear lady , you have the skills.
Great video! Still a few remarks: When deepening the slots for the frets it is advisable to make a few strikes with a small triangular file to protect the edges of the groove when a future fretjob should be needed. And when hammering the highest frets it is advisable to place some pieces of wood for the protection of the soundboard clamped between sound- board and back. But great that you are making people aware of the fact that a bowed neck can be cured.
You definitely have your own style! Love what you do. On loose frets I have used a birthday candle (rubbed next to the fret) so as to not have the CA glue stick to the board. Not sure that's a good idea, but it works.
Purchased ac 18:44 oustic guitar 3 years ago online. Neck width at nut = good. At 12th, though, far wider than I like, which is same as my 2 ovations and my '13 LP, 66 Firebird and ' 66 Eppi Casino. Have wanted to remove the neck and fix. The more I watch your videos the more I think Maybe I can do this. When I think, "Yes! I CAN do this, it'll be solely due to your videos displaying Your craft, and the thought, experience and insight i glean from them. Thanks SO much for YouTubing them!
For years I thought of a Nylon String Guitar was like a Toy or something. I was wrong. I have 2 of them now and usually play them more than anything else. Good Job! :)
Hi Tanya...you do really great work, I ve been doing similar work professionally on vintage banjos for the past few years and every time I watch your videos I learn something new and useful, thank you for sharing. I would be really interested sometime to watch a video which was a little mini tour of your bench/workshop set up? From the small snatches i see in the background it looks very nicely organised...🙂

First of all, let me say this is a wonderful channel, and this specific video is near and dear to my heart (I love classical nylon guitars). That being said, have you ever tried heating the neck slightly and clamping it in a slight back bow while it cools? Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. If the frets were in good shape, this may be much quicker and simpler. But your work on this is amazing!
Muy buen trabajo de reentrastado, quedo muy bueno. Hermoso trabajo y la guitarra que estabas raparabdo también. Gracias por compartir tu trabajo, la verdad muy útil, Gracias
I dont know much about classical guitars, so I assume there is no trus rod in the neck. 🤔 Great work too. I like that you have no music in your videos, just straight to the point. Thank you
As many times as I’ve seen you complete this process it never gets boring and I always feel like I’ve learned something new. Question! Why do you heat, I assume, the frets prior to removing them? As always, great job young lady! Be safe and God bless!!!
Love your videos, I feel like I am being channelled. I have a couple guitars that have bowed necks and I was waiting until I had time to do this procedure so I would keep them for personal use. . I was wondering if there would be a adjustable fret slot cutter that would be set for specific tand depth?
Interesting string wrapping and nut filing techniques. No testing with a gauge on the first and a tuner on the third fret? What up with that slotted saddle? We do it totally different at my shop.
Just a standard classic way of wrapping. After all manipulations with neck - it`s turned out that nut require just a bit of filing, so in this case I check it by a light gap between sting and 1st fret. And that was not a slots on a saddle (😅), metal can leave some dark stains on Graphtech nuts and saddles, I didn`t want to sand it from that side, bc stains not really big, ang overall geometry was prefect 😉
Great video... i would like a video and you show what stuff you use, for example Oils, Vax, Cleaners, Glues etc.. would be a great video too.. :D thanks
Hi. Great video, really instructing . I plan on restoring an old 50s or 60 parlor steel strings guitar with a bowed neck. I was wondering why you waxed (I suppose it's wax) the fingerboard before doing the fretwork. I would have assumed that it's done in the finishing process. I add that I'm pretty much ignorant about luthier work😅.
Hello, everything is very nice, and yet I think it would be useful for someone like me, who is inexperienced, to explain or write to us what materials you use, what polish, what wax, what Grid, from which defect you started the repair and how far it went .thank you
Why wax the fretboard and place wax inside the slots so that it creates a slippery not glueable surface ?I think wax is the last phase of operation . Thanks for the video .
Love these videos! Fav guitar repair on youtube. Question- how do you ensure against chipping at the fret slots at that first planing stage? I can tell the plain is super sharp, but I'd still be scared. Any advice hugely appreciated...
Hi Tanya, I’m new to your site but I love your camera work. Your videos are so good, what do you use to record them with, and is it in 4k 60 fpm ? I am also a guitar tech in the USA and want to start recording my work as you do. Also what editing software do you use? Thank you
Hi! Thank you! Right now I use Iphone 14pro (with ProMovie app to get wider settings for recording) as a camera, and Adobe Premier for edit. Of course this is not really PRO setup, but with good light and a bit of experience it can give a decent picture :)
What do you use when finishing/polishing the finger board? Theres a spray and then some other liquid you dab on. And thanks for the videos, very relaxing.
Question ,why would you ever superglue the frets in ? ,the whole point of hide glue aside from its historic use and being natural is that it melts at high temperatures ,thays why you need to heat frets with a soldering iron in order to remove them. (Just asking since i also build and restore guitars)
Over time, the wood can change in size and this can cause the frets to pop out of the grooves a bit. To prevent or minimize it you need to glue them :)
Hi Tanya. Great video and very helpful! What's the destination of the frets you pull out? seeing the last image of the patreons, I wonder if these are to be recycled.
Yeah, the tension on classical nylon string guitars is generally much lower than on steel string guitars, so they usually don’t need truss rods.
I was wondering why the nut wasn’t glued on my Spanish classical guitar, thanks for sharing

I'm curious... Why do you apply solder to the frets before pulling them? What would be the issue if you just pulled them directly?
For better heat transfer, it helps soften the glue and reduces fretboard chipping :)
👍👍 great video Tanya

glue for wood?

Love the classical acoustic guitars
Fellow guitar tech, loving the work! Quick question. What was the white stuff in the can you applied after you level sanded the neck? Just curious
It is wax, I apply it on wood to prevent CA glue from soaking too much into the wood. This step make later cleanup easier :)
@@TanyaShpachuk is it a specific type of wax? Do you apply after the glue dries or during?
I use Borma Cera Neutro, but any wax that you could apply to wood will be good enough. You need to put wax first, and then drip with glue
