2030 BABY! It’s coming back, and thank goodness. This course is one of the best in the world, without a doubt. The routing is pure genius. Such a small property, and the holes are routed just perfectly, and there really isn’t a weak hole out there.
My dad took me to this and i was 13 at the time and wow! It was such an amazing experience i hope the open comes back to merion so i can return the favor and take my dad.
In many ways, the character of the course is lost at US Opens. Not every course is meant to be an even par course when played at its toughest. Oakmont is a difficult course. Courses like Merion and Pebble are courses where under par is more a reflection of the course they are.
Glorified Donkey this was a decent complaint 15 years ago but after watching 15 years of mike Davis turn the us open into the masters and also introduce pointless gimmicks I think the wall to wall rough setups, and the US Open’s identifier literally forever until Mike Davis as “golf’s toughest test” and the supreme test of driving accuracy in the game, proved to overall be a far better and less controversial test than trying to “experiment” by testing the golfer in other ways. Guys like Andy north, who I get people degraded as champions, were still more worthy major winners than say rory mcilroy at congressional, where gazillion yard wide fairways enabled mcilroy to spray the ball in the fairway while hitting it 330. The one time mcilroy drove in the rough he stupidly decided to go for the green and made double bogey. He would have lost the lead by Saturday night had congressional been set up the way it was in 1997 (or like Merion in this video) point blank.
Sirin 2020 hey the course was set up perfectly, I might not personally like Bryson’s strategy but he pulled it off and then some, it reminded me a lot of Phil in 06 missing fairways except he finished it off and ran away with the title. There was lots of punishment for missing, but Bryson managed to somehow play the course from the rough. But there’s a reason he was the only person under par. The setup was fantastic: thick rough, narrow fairways, fast greens, hats off to Bryson for navigating all of that. That’s why the US Open needs to be set up like this, because making it difficult makes winning so much meaningful; winning by 6 and being the only guy under par was only possible because the course was tough enough to separate the wheat from the chaffe. And Bryson was the wheat for sure that week
Mickelson is still kicking himself about this one I bet.... Missed so many putts on the final day. Should have been able to win this one... The only major he hasn't one is the US open. On another note, Merion is an absolutely beautiful golf course. Would love to see this venue again soon. Philadelphia is a highly underrated golf area. Incredible courses all around there.

hanajinks Yeah I remembered it since Mahan used to be one of my favorites so I was pulling for him to win. Honestly I sincerely appreciate you owning your mistake and not just running away from it like most people do on the internet.
Mahan is not a big name and unfortunately such players get lost in shuffle. We'll see cameras on Woods at tournaments even when he's 10 shots back. The US Open has lots of near misses for the average Tour Pros.
I get it. Tiger tiger tiger. But still. Hunter Mahan was in the final group on Sunday and in contention to win until the last 5-6 holes. I’m 30 min into the video and his name hasn’t even been mentioned. 🙄
Really need to bring the US Open back to Merion! What a great track!
But don't trick it up so much next time.
Glorified Donkey um excuse me? This is possibly the best US Open setup of the past 15 years.

@@tempo7091 you love it!
Play it on WGT golf game (also teal 4 handicapper). It’s a looooong track!
I love those films, please make more!
What a course and Rosey really got me in the feels with what he said. Respectful and total class
Being from Philly...this is my favorite us open...plz come back to Merion soon!
Me too. I really wanted Phil to win
So far, the only possibility of a return looks to be 2025 or beyond. Very sad. Lots of great history around Merion and the Philadelphia golf scene!
looks like we got Torrey Pines, then the country club, then LACC, Pinehurst, then Oakmont, Shinnecock, and pebble. Nothing as of yet
@@GlorifiedDonkey Idk if Cobbs Creek can get the restoration that there aiming for I could see cobs Hosting a US open or a PGA Event

They really need to bring the US Open back to Merion - such an amazing golf course!!
They are! In 2030 they will return

Interesting how Mahan is hardly covered here despite being right in contention all day on Sunday.

32:30. Phil’s 4iron into the Par 3. A beauty !!
Man I felt bad for Phil. He missed so many putts. He really should have won this tournament
That has been Phills down fall his entire career. I too always feel bad for the guy. He's running out of time too.
Seems odd seeing Steve Williams caddying for Adam Scott in the same group as Tiger
