Absolutely the most important sword in the books, but I guess under their criteria Sting is the stand out. As far as the movies go, Anduril was as played down as Aragorn himself. It's hard to have the full significance of the sword that was his birthright when they acted like Aragorn didn't want to be a king. Sigh.
[Aragorn raises Andúril, blocking the king's blow] That line was broken! Aragorn: [holding the sword to the King's throat] It has been remade! [pushes the king back] Fight for us, and regain your honour. [looks around at the army] What say you?
Yes, it deserves a spot. However, the sword is not special for any other reason that it is a reforged from Narsil. It was the bloodline of Isildur that granted Aragorn the ability to fulfil the cursed dead's oaths.
I agree with them that Sting is the more iconic of them. Anduril, the Flame of the West, reforged from the shattered Narsil, is a magnificent weapon in its own right, but more than Anduril, more than Orcrist, more than Glamdring, the best-known blade in Tolkien's legendarium is Sting. (The coolest is Anglachel. IMHO.)
It's a perennial problem with Hollywood. Somebody makes a hit movie with both heart and artistry. Then somebody else tries to recatch that movie's lightning through doing it by the numbers, and wonders why his movie is nothing like as good as the first.
One thing to note about the Sword of Griffindor, this magical blade takes in things that will make it stronger. It was magically enchanted when it was first forged, and it will continue to get stronger. IE by absorbing basilisk venom in Chamber of Secrets.
^ Yea. Don't forget that The Sword of GrYffindor vanishes completely after Griphook had it. Griphook never really had ownership of it. Just because the Goblins believe that all goblin-made silver belongs to them, that doesn't make it true. The sword belongs to Hogwarts and the Gryffindors. Just a reminder: It can destroy Horcruxes.

It's a lightsabre meaning light sword, also known as a laser sword and it's function is basically that of a sword, it has different forms and techniques, can be used with one or two hand, can be dual wielded, used in combat and fencing.
I agree with all the swords you listed (though Conan's sword will always be my first love) but there's a few I believe deserved a ranking or at least an honorable mention; (1. Dar's sword from the original Beastmaster movie (2. Jet Li's sword from Hero (3. Lancelot's sword from First Knight, or even Prince Malagant's (4. Arthur's sword from Monty Python and the Holy Grail (though I'll understand if it's not entirely worthy of prestige, still, honorable mention) (5. Sword of Maximus from Gladiator (6. Sword of Mathayus from The Scorpion King (7. Red Sonja's sword (1985 version) (8. Sword of Perseus from Clash of the Titans (1981 version) (9. Sword of Ahmed Ibn Fahdlan from The 13th Warrior (10. agreed. Excalibur is THE legendary sword. No other is known so well! I'm just glad that movie got the hilt right. I've seen so many wrong versions of the sword. Ie the most iconic part being the circle at the end of the handle. That's a major part of it's symbolism.

I've done this because, philosophically, I am sympathetic to your aim. I can tell you with no ego, this is my finest sword. If on your journey, you should encounter God, God will be cut."
1. Excalibur 2. Atlantean 3. Zorro's blade (vintage). Can't believe Zorro isn't on this list. 4. "Gladiator" roman short sword fight. He used them like fists. 5. I Love You Man "Suck it Gill!" fencing scene just for giggles.
Maybe, but I liked Haldir's sword more, so I would have picked that from Lord of the Rings. It was really cool how every nation in Middle Earth had a distinctive sword style.
+Not cheesebiscuit They mentioned Anduril. But under it's first age name. Narsil. But mentioning is not the same as featuring. lol. Agree with you 100%!
Cool 😎!! An American take on the zatoichi samurai films from Japan. The blind swordsman had an exact sword as zatoichi. You should check it out sometime!! It’s badass. A good homage, well done by Rutger Howard
The light saber is NOT a sword. Swords have metal blades. The light saber has an energy blade. Swords have sheathes. The light saber doesn't because its energy blade disappears when it is deactivated. Swords have simple assemblies. The light saber has a very complex assembly.
We;; a sword must have a material blade and must have a sheath either on the belt or slung over the shoulder. A sword must have been made by a blacksmith.
Agree with all but Sting. Sorry, but WHY NOT the Sword of Gondor? You know, the ONLY THING that can COMMAND say...I don't know...A GHOST ARMY??? My only beef with this. Otherwise, a good list.
0:54 - 1:01 BEST MOVIE LINE IN EXHISTANCE (he tells you three MAJOR things that people today DON'T do when they plan to kill you) 1. the name 2. the reason 3. what he'll do to you
i got a katana, i used to train alot with it when i was younger. i was quite good with it. but then other things became more important & i stopped. now it's standing in my living room just as a decoration. damn, this makes me take it up & start training again.
Taxtro Thanks for asking, I lived in Japan for 1 year where I practiced Iaido & Tameshigiri, i.e. the form & the actual cutting. We used real hand-made (and sharp) swords for cutting & our targets were bundled Tatami mats. That was abot 10 years ago. During that time I practiced cutting twice per week. My sword is a non-sharp Iaido sword that i bought on my last week in Japan & took home (cause the sharp ones were too expensive). I continued practicing Iaido for about 2 years but then stopped cause I got too busy with work. I started practicing again some weeks ago & feel how it's coming back slowly. Even if I don't have targets to cut, practicing only the moves is already good training. And very relaxing.
The two Ron Cobb swords in Conan were the originals benchmarks of all the swords that came after. In the Sword and sorcery genre (who's popularity would not have even existed if it wasn't for the Conan movie) I have yet to see any sword that can match their originality and design.
There have been "sword and sorcery" films LONG before the Conan film. Reference "The Magic Sword", made in 1960 I believe, with Basil Rathbone, Gary Lockwood, and Estelle Winwood
James Abbgy well in the books you would know that nothing could penetrate Shelobs hide then sting came along. It’s similar to glamdring. Both first age elvish blades. The first age blades were the best
Conan's Atlantean sword only 7th?! Seriously? This is the most iconic sword of all! (w/ the lightsaber) And where's the Kurgan's sword from Highlander and the Conan's father sword? They are way more iconic than many swords on this list!
I completely 100,000,000% Conan Samarian story and his father sword should easily be the top two best Followed by the Hylande or sword whoever made this list must be a millennial
You can't have a swordsman without a sword, and -- with the exceptions of the Green Destiny & Excalibur (possibly Sting as well) -- there is nothing special about any of the swords on this list except that they are wielded by truly exceptional swordsmen. So, I say again, how can you make a video about the greatest movie swords and leave out the rapier of the greatest swordsman who's ever lived?!
monocline Zorro would beat Iñigo and the Pirate Robert both at the same time. He is the greatest swordsman ever. His skills aren't limited to the sword. He is a master with the whip as well and throwing knives
hemans sword is unique and beatrix kidos sword is unique in purpose as mentioned green destiny I agree with the list save the last one because its not a sword
*Spoilers* 1.) A Lightsbaer does not count 2.) Andúril, "Flame of the West" should be #1 2a.) Only because "Ice" and "Longclaw" from Game Of Thrones aren't allowed to be considered
TsunaTsurugi In the books, Anduril could burst into flames. They removed that ability in the movie so Sting's blue glow would be more prominent and so people wouldn't confuse the swords.
Awesome sauce! In my opinion, Anduril is the best sword, but Sting is my favorite sword, so if I made a list of my favorite movie swords, Anduril and Sting would be tied no matter where they'd be on the list, but most likely in the top five or three.
The Dragon Slayer of Guts („Berserk“). „It was too big to be called a sword. Massive, thick, heavy, and far too rough. Indeed, it was a heap of raw iron.“ - Description of the Dragon Slayer
5:12 - WRONG! Blade I specifically states it's TITANIUM, not Damascus steel. And it's acid etched, not acid coated. Do your damned homework. (ref: Blade 1998 temple scene approx 90 min into movie)
the sword in the comics is far deadlier. Its mixed anamantium and vibranium. the same material as the covers wolverine's skeleton and Captain america's shield. Its also Blessed to battle the supernatural, Though in the comics is more or less in the Katana mold. Still not as bad ass as Muramasa, the Immortal Ender weilded by the Silver Samurai
Greg Cyr I always thought it was Silver since in the movie he uses silver bullets and stakes so a sword that is either made of silver or coated in it would be effective against vampires.
DarkLordDiablos According to the script, it's titanium: "Frost: Let's see this sword of yours. [Mercury tosses him Blade's sword] Titanium, right? Acid-etched. I'll get used to a weapon like this. [Turns the security device off in Blade's face] What? You look surprised. I told you, Blade. I know everything about you. Hold out your arm Quinn." en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Blade_%28film%29 Marvel's online resource also states that it's acid-etched titanium. NOT, as the uploader asserts, "acid coated".
DarkLordDiablos silver wasnt the only thing that killed vampires in the Blade movies. Wood worked just as well. As long as you took out the heart or head, you were good remember when Blade staked his mom with a bone?
How is Sting more important than Narsil/Anduril? The sword itself was a plot point in itself and more significant impact in the world of Lord of the Rings overall
Could not agree more, even in the Hobbit when they found Sting it did not even have a name because they said it had not done anything great. The Hobbit and LOTR movies in my opinion do not show/talk enough about the Glamdring (Gandolf's sword) or the Orcrist (Thorn's sword) both were Elfish and glowed, and had way more history then Sting. Furthermore, as you stated Narsil/Anduril was way more important the Sting, Aragorn and all his forefathers carried this broken hilt until it could be reforge and so much more.
Only if Excalibur is magic do I believe the saber wouldn't be able to damage it. Because if it isn't magic it would simply be a medieval knight getting his ass handed to him (possibly literally) by a Jedi. As for the force... this is about the sword, not the man who holds it. An unarmed Jedi could beat a regular guy with a lightsaber, but we're not discussing Jedi vs King Arthur. We are discussing Excalibur vs lightsaber with both swordsman being equal. So I think it all depends on if Excalibur is magic or not.
there are so manny swords in lotr that are steeped in backstory and bad-assery and STING was the only one on the list? Don't get me wrong, sting is cool but nowhere near bad-ass compared to every other named sword in lotr.
---ElectroMan--- Yes, but Narsil knocked off the ring of Saurons finger and Andúril was able to call the army of undead. The two should have got at least an Honorable Mention.

Anduril deserves a place on that list. It summoned the dead of mountain at the Battle of Pelenor in the hands of Aragorn.
Aragorn was the one who summoned the Dead, not his sword. In fact when Isildur cursed the Dead Men he wasn't even the owner of Narsil.
James Clark it was used in one of the most frustrating boss fights i ever fought.

ɷ I Have Watchedd Thisss Movieee Leakeddd Versionnnn Heree : - t.co/e6QlTccFx6
How about the sword from 47 Ronin? That sword was badass.
thunder! thunder! thundercats! HO!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes definitely
@@crowwingbound3101 Not really, the title says "Movie Swords" not cartoons swords. Excalibur no doubt was the real first.
"I am finished doing what I swore an oath to God 28 years ago to never do again. I've created, "something that kills people." And in that purpose, I was a success. I've done this because, philosophically, I am sympathetic to your aim. I can tell you with no ego, this is my finest sword. If on your journey, you should encounter God, God will be cut."
1. Excalibur
2. Atlantean
3. Zorro's blade (vintage). Can't believe Zorro isn't on this list.
4. "Gladiator" roman short sword fight. He used them like fists.
5. I Love You Man "Suck it Gill!" fencing scene just for giggles.
That is a terrible ranking. I’ll show you a real ranking
1. Narsil
2. (Jon snow’s sword Idk the name)
3. Light sabers
"Suffer ye no guilt, those who wield this in the name of Crom!" - inscription on the blade of Conan's father
Anduril anyone?
Maybe, but I liked Haldir's sword more, so I would have picked that from Lord of the Rings. It was really cool how every nation in Middle Earth had a distinctive sword style.
i know its way better than sting it is the sword of the king the one that destroyed sauron
+Not cheesebiscuit They mentioned Anduril. But under it's first age name. Narsil. But mentioning is not the same as featuring. lol. Agree with you 100%!
Narsil
Hadhafang is a beautiful sword tho....
And no Blind Fury?!
Who exactly made the rules for what constitutes as a sword?
We;; a sword must have a material blade and must have a sheath either on the belt or slung over the shoulder. A sword must have been made by a blacksmith.
lightSABER. A saber is a type of sword. Your argument is invalid.
WyreWizard The sword itself is the sheath. It goes on the belt. The blacksmith is the Jedi that creates it.
I detect a slight case of sword envy.
Even though they are mightier than swords, I'm glad no pens made the list.
Conan's sword should have been ranked higher.
At least it's on the thumbnail.
Number 1 no question
Nr 1 for sure Its the coolest movie sword ever made.. .
Mojo can't resist putting Star Wars at the top of another list even though it's not a sword...
+Daniel K You're right. It's a sabre!
It's a self contained energy beam basically. It's a sword as much as a welding torch is a dagger. Or a blaster / phaser is a bow and arrow.
yea right not even steel lol
it isn't a sabre either lol.
They're also called "laser swords"
I've read only a few comments, but I feel the sword of the Beast Master is pretty cool. I was disappointed it wasn't included.
Agreed. I was sure it'd be an honorable mention, but I guess that movie is a bit obscure for most people under 40.
Not known well enough for watchmojo, it's not anything star wars or avenger, this list if done now number two would be thanos double bladed sword.
Lightsabers have to be one of the most iconic weapons of all time in general
The Sword of Gryffindor, from Harry Potter (one of the most popular franchises ever) did not make the list? Criminal.
When you said "The Narsil" I hurt inside.
To paraphrase Balin in the Hobbit, Sting is more of a letter opener. Not a sword.
Yeah, so many better legendary swords in LOTR/Hobbit...
the mind sword,Orcrist the Goblin cleaver,Glamdrill the foe hammer,Long claw. The Crystal sword of John Crition.
Gandalf's sword was named GlamDRING, known by the Orcs as "Beater". Orchrist was called "Biter"
Sting counts as a sword/dagger? I thought it was a letter opener?
Depends on your height
Lol!!!!
Agree with all but Sting.
Sorry, but WHY NOT the Sword of Gondor? You know, the ONLY THING that can COMMAND say...I don't know...A GHOST ARMY???
My only beef with this. Otherwise, a good list.
come on guys. Isildur's sword from LOTR tops all of these.
I'm a fan of General Kael's (Willow) claymore with the barbs for catching spear/lance. Such an awesome sword.
This was a fun list to watch, although I would have put the famous Excalibur at least in the top 3
0:54 - 1:01 BEST MOVIE LINE IN EXHISTANCE (he tells you three MAJOR things that people today DON'T do when they plan to kill you)
1. the name
2. the reason
3. what he'll do to you
Tien of Ong Bak 2, does excactly that and the story has reasons as to why it has become unfashionable.
i got a katana, i used to train alot with it when i was younger. i was quite good with it. but then other things became more important & i stopped. now it's standing in my living room just as a decoration.
damn, this makes me take it up & start training again.
No one cares about your completely bullshit story.
I Care.
You mean you practiced cutting?
Nick Goldpenny arrogant piece of shit...
And very relaxing.
does a light sabre really count as a live action sword? i don't think so
The two Ron Cobb swords in Conan were the originals benchmarks of all the swords that came after.
Hey the Beastmaster's sword, Red Sonja swords didn't get honorable mentions at least.
Sting wasn't even the best "sword" in it's own movies, let alone better than so many others.
(w/ the lightsaber)
And where's the Kurgan's sword from Highlander and the Conan's father sword?
They are way more iconic than many swords on this list!
I completely 100,000,000% Conan Samarian story and his father sword should easily be the top two best Followed by the Hylande or sword whoever made this list must be a millennial
Agree It is a masterpiece. It is hands down the coolest movie sword ever made..
I'm with you, man. The Atlantean should have been in the top 3.
i don't count the 'LightSaber' as a sword, so this video was top 9 movie 'SWORDS' for me!
Do you count dagger as sword?
Just because the blade is plasma doesnt make it not a sword
well if you guys watch the making of the movie, they were literally using plastic tubes to film the lightsaber scenes!!
What about Anduril? It lets Aragorn command an entire army of ghosts for crying out loud!
The bamboo walking staff/ sword from blind fury
Anduril is THE sword and yet it's not here.
Anduril is the remake of Narsil, but it's true, from the movies Sting is more memorable than any other sword.
Thoregor from the books Anduril is a very powerful sword, better than Sting
Jesse Pinkman Yea, but they are doing a top 10 movie swords.
How can you make a video about the greatest movie swords and leave out Zorro's rapier?!
Nothing special about his sword dude, there was something special about his ability.
Yep. Zorro was about pure skills his sword had nothing special abou it
You can't have a swordsman without a sword, and -- with the exceptions of the Green Destiny & Excalibur (possibly Sting as well) -- there is nothing special about any of the swords on this list except that they are wielded by truly exceptional swordsmen. So, I say again, how can you make a video about the greatest movie swords and leave out the rapier of the greatest swordsman who's ever lived?!
I'd argue that Inigo vs Zorro, while an amazing fight, would result in Inigo's win...but just barely.
monocline Zorro would beat Iñigo and the Pirate Robert both at the same time. He is the greatest swordsman ever. His skills aren't limited to the sword. He is a master with the whip as well and throwing knives
Inigo Montoya's rapier should be higher.
Azeem (Morgan Freeman) had a great sword in Robin Hood Prince Of Thieves, that massive curved blade, it is called a scimitar.
Father of achew
That's what I said! 😁
It’s actually more of a falchion. Not any kind of historic sword, it’s a cross between a falchion scimitar and Sabre
@@petrosspetrosgali okay smarty pants but you know a cool sword non the less
Those warriors from Hammerfell use curved swords too. Curved...Swords....
No.1 was the Skywalker Lightsaber! Are you serious! The only that thing that makes it special is nostalgia
its not even a sword
Paul Anderson How is it not a sword? What else would you define it as? It's an Energy SWORD so it counts.
DeathGodRiku
I only think of cold steel when one talks about swords
Paul Anderson
and dosnt even have a name
Dude. It's a fucking lightsaber.
Disagree..
Anduril, flame of the west forged from the shards of narsil. the sword of Elendil. The blade that was broken.
All nice choices, but only Excalibur and Blade's sword can be called truly unique.
stu mullarkey
I've not seen the film, so don't a flying rat's ass give.
but I guess you're right, ya smurf.
Vebinz Buzz off, you flea mangled cur.
aethertech
And a pox on you and your brood, peasant.
May your guts freeze so hard, that only hellfire can thaw them.
hemans sword is unique and beatrix kidos sword is unique in purpose as mentioned green destiny I agree with the list save the last one because its not a sword
Kurgan's Sword. That is one kick-ass weapon!
Excalibur grants executive power. A nod towards Dennis the Constitutional peasant? I certainly hope so.
Brass 'n Barrels Firearms Channel Shut up!
i didn't vote for you.
Lol
The Isz Shut up! (starts beating Dennis up)
Watery *bint
The Isz
Meep?
*Spoilers*
1.) A Lightsbaer does not count
2.) Andúril, "Flame of the West" should be #1
2a.) Only because "Ice" and "Longclaw" from Game Of Thrones aren't allowed to be considered
Game of Thrones is a TV series, and because this is about Movie swords, Game of Thrones weapons will be placed on another list of Top Ten TV Swords.
Andúril is just a normal Longsword. . . why do it belong the first place ?
TsunaTsurugi In the books, Anduril could burst into flames. They removed that ability in the movie so Sting's blue glow would be more prominent and so people wouldn't confuse the swords.
***** mhhhh you got the point :D
Awesome sauce! In my opinion, Anduril is the best sword, but Sting is my favorite sword, so if I made a list of my favorite movie swords, Anduril and Sting would be tied no matter where they'd be on the list, but most likely in the top five or three.
I don't consider a lightsaber a sword.
That's like calling a carriage a car because it has 4 wheels.
The Dragon Slayer of Guts („Berserk“).
„It was too big to be called a sword. Massive, thick, heavy, and far too rough. Indeed, it was a heap of raw iron.“
- Description of the Dragon Slayer
To be fair it is movie swords.
Not even a honorable mention for Anduril?
Yeah, I agree with this whole list.
These were the days of the high art of weapons forging. The 80s! 😀
Thanks for tossing an honorable mention to the three-blanded sword from The Sword and the Sorcerer.
Masters of the Universe should be on the list, not an honorable mention.
i think is not there because Masters of the Universe is more well know for its cartoon series than the live action flick
it is in the honorable mention -_-
egroeg reyes plz read the comments before actually writing, dont be a fool
I know everyone says it, but lightsabers are so badass
I agree. :)
DarkLordDiablos
According to the script, it's titanium:
"Frost: Let's see this sword of yours. [Mercury tosses him Blade's sword] Titanium, right? Acid-etched. I'll get used to a weapon like this. [Turns the security device off in Blade's face] What? You look surprised. I told you, Blade. I know everything about you. Hold out your arm Quinn."
en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Blade_%28film%29
Marvel's online resource also states that it's acid-etched titanium. NOT, as the uploader asserts, "acid coated".
I know, I was just pointing out that due to silver being deadly to Vampires, I thought the sword was coated in it.
DarkLordDiablos silver wasnt the only thing that killed vampires in the Blade movies. Wood worked just as well. As long as you took out the heart or head, you were good remember when Blade staked his mom with a bone?
Skywalker's Lightsaber was a nice touch!
My favorite has always been the Kurgan sword from highlander
Agreed, should have been o the list as well.
Conan is what made Sword movies popular to this generation... So that alone makes it #1
Yeah mate. Totally agree. Plus for me is the most badass and cool sword ever.
Uhhh no. The lightsaber did. Give someone a fake sword and fight with them..They will start humming when they swing.
.
Good vid, those of us trained in long blades always love vids like this.
Nope, your wrong mojo! Excalibur will always be the greatest sword because whom ever wields it wins. What other sword can claim that?
Only if Excalibur is magic do I believe the saber wouldn't be able to damage it. Because if it isn't magic it would simply be a medieval knight getting his ass handed to him (possibly literally) by a Jedi.
As for the force... this is about the sword, not the man who holds it. An unarmed Jedi could beat a regular guy with a lightsaber, but we're not discussing Jedi vs King Arthur. We are discussing Excalibur vs lightsaber with both swordsman being equal.
So I think it all depends on if Excalibur is magic or not.
anakin's lightsaber
k
+Yoda the Graflex! Lightsaber of the Skywalkers. The chosen one. The force. Strong with the force the saber is.
Magic trumps science every time.
I don't think too many people know about Excalibur really, it hasn't been in a proper movie lately. Excalibur in the latest King Arthur movie sucked.
Achilles sword from Troy
Narsil -> Sting
You should do top 10 anime weapons.
Star Wars? A light saber is not a sword. it is an energy weapon.
still a sword
A word still*
Yoda you mean: a sword, it still is
Actually, it is a sword.
Sword in Kill Bill is like any other katana. But Anduril and Witchking's sword are best of them all.
Just saying, Darth Maul's double lightsaber is far more badass than Luke's.
I will agree with you on that. I also liked Count Dooku's sabers
And our #1 pick of movie swords, isnt even a sword!
James J.
I know, what utter star-fan crap
Why didn’t he just say
“Darth Mauls double edge lightsaber”
Oh, maybe that’s considered a bo staff
The Headless Horseman's sword in Tim Burton's - Sleepy Hollow deserves a mention.
Would have guessed Aragon's sword from Return of the King because it was an actual sword.
Actual meaning an actual metal blade
You include Sting, but not Glamdring or Narsil?
I guess the movies failed on the depiction of Anduril / Narsil though, I can't quite remember.
You are right. Andril/Narsil would be a good choice
there are so manny swords in lotr that are steeped in backstory and bad-assery and STING was the only one on the list? Don't get me wrong, sting is cool but nowhere near bad-ass compared to every other named sword in lotr.
Glamdring, is far more beautiful than sting. And, it's actually a sword.
You guys also have to realize that the Sting was with the main character throughout the movies. While Glamdring or Narsil were with other characters.
---ElectroMan--- Yes, but Narsil knocked off the ring of Saurons finger and Andúril was able to call the army of undead. The two should have got at least an Honorable Mention.
A light saber is not a sword
No, it is.
TheLegendsFate actually, your wrong, look up the definition of "sword"
sparkatorch Actually, I'm not wrong. If I see it as a sword, then it's my opinion, but if you don't, that's fine too. Neither of us are wrong.
TheLegendsFate Alright man lol
Yes, and blasters aren't guns. Mmm-Hmm.
Is it just me, or is the princess bride one of the greatest films ever made?
It is! It IS hilarious! The big rats!
@@benjaminrodriguez7356 oh, you mean the ROUS's.
