I live in Scotland and what happened to Alesha seriously breaks my heart, I feel pain in my heart when I think of her and how confused and scared she must have been. I cannot imagine what her mum and her dad and rest of family must go through every day. It doesn’t bare thinking of, it’s unimaginable. This case is the only case that makes me cry honestly it’s just horrific to think about that absolute monster, how he could be so brazen to just go into someone’s house and do what he did.

One of the hardest things to hear…mom wailing while the judge addresses that monster. If this ‘boy’ had not been caught, he could very well have been well on his way to inflicting so much more pain.
Emma, I agree with your feelings some children who murder are redeemable. Don’t think this young ‘man’ qualifies. This one truly made my heart ache. Not even a flicker of humanity present. What do you do if you spot these psychopathic tell-tale signs in a child/young person in your own community? Other than reporting your concerns to social care who are pretty useless (not through their own individual fault but we all know the system is failing massively). What can you actually do as a mere member of the public to bring this young person to the attention of the people who may be able to intervene/diagnose/help? Or do you simply do nothing and wait for another tragedy to occur? Another great video btw Emma

Most predators don't change. So the likes of predatory pedophiles, rapists, serial killers, thrill killers, prisoners, munchausen by proxy killers.
Can't change. They are wired that way.
Some won't kill when the opportunity is taken away. Like Lucy Letby the killer nurse. If they let her out. She likely wouldn't kill again because the reason she killed was attention seeking. But with someone like Aaron Campell the reason he killed was sexual gratification.
Some just rape. And they do it over and over again. Many won't report it. And they get very light sentences.

Wow Emma, what a journey. I listen to your videos when I walk my dog, and I really love your content, it makes the walk 1000% better. But today I had to pause for a while. What that poor little girl went through is so horrific, I couldn’t cope with what I was hearing. I have a 5 year old daughter and the mothers cries were so raw and pain filled, it’s heartbreaking. The only reason I listened until the end was because as always, you delivered the case with so much compassion and empathy, you always do the victims justice and never go for shock value. It’s refreshing and reassuring, keep up the great work.

Many parents assist their children with lies and an alibi like the parents of the murderers of Rhys Jones, but honestly if it turns out that your child is a depraved killer you owe it to the rest of the world and to your child to make sure they are taken off the streets. It must have broken her heart to hear what he put that wee soul through. Alesha's family must be so heartbroken still. 💖

Hearing what that poor, sweet, innocent child went through and the horrendous treatment her tiny body endured was incredibly upsetting. I can only imagine what it has been like for Alesha’s family. While hearing the hideous nature of this case was jarring, I think it was necessary. We need to know that these things, unfortunately, unbelievably and sadly do happen. I found this very hard to watch as it involved a little child of 6 and nearly turned off when you went into the coroner’s report however although the description was utterly horrific in what this other child did to Alesha, it’s important to have an in depth understanding of his own childhood experiences and what led up to him committing such an atrocity and only hope that we can prevent such horrific murders taking place but as you said Emma there are so many indicators that have to be taken into account. I know from my own work how important the role of the parent is, but not suggesting at all that his parents are to blame in any way, I’m just saying that every parent should be given the opportunity to have a basic understanding of what a child needs to grow into a healthy, happy and caring individual. His mum you said had problems with alcohol I wonder if she was getting help with this? We know the damage that can be done where substance misuse, mental health and domestic violence occurs in a family. I wonder how often he saw his dad? Again I am not suggesting for one minute that either of his parents were responsible for what he did, BUT, something clearly went very wrong in this young man’s life. Could it have been prevented? Perhaps if we asked questions earlier on about his behaviour and what he was saying to his friends, maybe, but who would his friends turn to if they had worries about his behaviour? And if he was referred to mental health services would these concerns have been taken seriously or might they say ‘oh he will grow out of it’. There is also the issue with the lack of access to children and young peoples mental health services and the massive waiting lists for such a service. At the end of the day the damage has been done and I cannot even start to imagine what it felt like for Alesha’s mother and father to not only lose their child at 6 years old but the way she was brutally and horrifically murdered by another child. I always struggle with cases involving the deaths of children but make myself listen to you because it is so important to understand the background of those who murder so that we can at least try and identify behaviours, signs etc of psychopaths at the earliest opportunity and to try and prevent such atrocities happening in the first place. I know you covered a little about his father and mother but I wondered if there was another reason as to why they left Shrewsbury to live on the Isle of Bute? As to whether he should ever be free to walk on this earth again? NO FUCKING WAY - excellent programme tonight though Emma 👍

Sometimes psychopaths are born that way. I know this is disputed in the world of psychology, but I have seen it with my own eyes in my family. A psychopath can be born to abusive parents (which makes them worse) or can be born into a loving family with no previous background of abusive or psychopathy. They can just be born out of the blue. It is rare from my research, but it does happen sometimes and has nothing to do with environmental factors. When a child of 3 or 4 is exhibiting extreme deception, manipulation and cruelty to animals... And then they get progressively with age, it is disturbing to watch. Science doesn't want to admit this and tries to explain with reasons, but these is no reason. A small percentage are born evil.

I don’t know how a Parent would ever recover from hearing this, or have any sort of quality of life with this knowledge. It’s these crimes that make you question someone’s human right to be rehabilitated. I’d need to be the Parent to end their life. I just couldn’t cope knowing all of that stuff and knowing he’s ‘alive’. And I know Parents have other children and a life to honour, live. But I just can’t imagine if it cuts me as a ‘viewer’ how it effects the families .

This was a big, burly guy who had dealt with murderers, rapists, paedophiles etc. I asked him who was the worst person he had dealt with and he didn't hesitate, "Aaron Campbell". He said that what was so disconcerting about him was that as soon as he was out of the court he behaved so normally, chatting away happily like he didn't have a care in the world. To quote him, "He gave me the fucking creeps.. He;s a psychopathic c**t and I can't wait until he's old enough to leave Polmont and go to Barlinnie. He'll get what's coming to him then."

I can't even begin to imagine the heartbreak of families who lose a poor, beautiful, innocent child for any reason, but especially in such a brutal way to pure evil. But I can't help but feel heartbroken for the parents of psychopathic children who go on to commit horrendous crimes like this. Even if we know that genetics is a crucial factor in children like this boy, the guilt must be soul crushing. I have heard interviews with so many parents of psychopathic children where they talk about how loving and normal in every way the kid was when he/she was for the first several years of their life. How do you as a parent start dealing with warning signs years before those signs even appear? In other cases parents talk about how they became aware that something was wrong very early on, and screamed for professional help without being taken seriously. Those parents are often ostracized, harassed and shunned, when they are grieving too. The fact is that none of us can know who we'll create when we decide to have children. That is the sobering truth.

I live on Bute, the whole thing was insane, also it would seem there was social work intervention etc and many MANY warning signs long before any of this 😔 feel for his mum n wee sister, and for the lovely (also father) man who sadly found her :(
You covered this one amazingly well xx

Every small town has a sub culture of teen druggies who everyone knows but for some reason tolerates. That includes Police ,
      Social Workers , Neighbours etc.
The whole truth has still not really come out in order to spare the father's feelings. If you allow druggies into your home or into your life be prepared to take the consequences !!

If he's capable of this murder and lack of empathy at 16, he's going to be capable of more when he comes to the end of his term. His persona and actions are inhuman.
This should have been a whole life term.
