It's really quite depressing when you see the older Bruce Wayne lose more control of his life - alienating the people around due to whatever rage he's held inside, keeping secrets from everyone, and losing his physical prime. The fact that Bruce wouldn't toast Jim shows that distinction between the two of them. Bruce is not settled. Where once a vow drove him to do what he felt was best for Gotham, another vow is restraining him from that path. If the city had improved, perhaps his attitude would be different. But all it's done was remind Bruce that Batman was the one presence that made a criminal think twice about committing an act. For Bruce these drinks aren't celebrating. It's the death of yesterday.

The sequel further develops this by the lack of even mentioning Jason and also making Dick Grayson insane, so the only real robin left is Carrie Kelly. Him being Red Hood is also even more unlikely because, in this universe, a lot of mainstream heroes don't exist and superman is not near as strong or powerful as he is in mainstream, so he can't punch and shatter reality to make Jason come back to life like in the comics. And to touch on the whole continuity of events in the real world don't mean anything when comparing works of fiction, they would in this case since it's two different universes and Frank Miller obviously didn't have any plans for Jason other than his death, and it's unlikely under the red hood would make him change anything.

It was explained in Batman: Year One. Gordon investigates and interviews Bruce. He's looking like he's drunk on champagne with a girl who doesn't speak English. When Alfred comes into the room he states "I take it I can take the ginger ale and put it back in the correct bottle?" After Gordon leaves.
Gordon: "I've got one more month at this job, and I'd love to spend it nailing the mutants" Archer: "Uh, phrasing" Gordon: "If they want to take me on, I'm delighted" Archer: "Phrasing!" Gordon: "Come and get me" Archer: "HEY! PHRASING!"

His proportions look human here. He hasn't quite returned to being a literal human tree
The government the public could not stand you any more.
Me: just as I figured the people are blind just like in real life. They could not stand batman because he corrected the corruption in the government and put order in Gotham while the the rest are in chaos after the russian attack
70% News and 30% Action.
I don't know HOW Jim has all his hair still.
I wonder where the other Robin's and Terry McGinnis are in this timeline!
Gotham remind me of Dublin city...dirty
Junkies, scumbags and nackers plaguing Dublin... at best they make themselves a nuisance to passers-by and the work force, at worst they’re murdering, thieving criminals
Me, an Irishman, in Dublin: 👈🏻👈🏻
Now I understand what Fontaines were writing about.
Commissioner: to 10 years🥃 am i finnally joining you Batman
Batman:... Blank stare 😂😂 Stfu Gordon 😂😂 i got no JOB!!
"Come on baby, come alive."
Me: wut.
When Bruce says, " Batman didn't survive retirement, but Bruce Wayne's alive and well!", He's wrong! Batman went into hiding and, Bruce Wayne learned to drink! I BELIEVE Bruce was, however, going to the gym regularly to burn off nervous energy and keeping up his mind through, what fir him, would be leisurely learning.
Donnie is that you?
Gordon is still alive? He was like 60 when Bruce was batman
Mihael and? He's 70 now. Batman has only been retired 10 years
It would be awesome if they make an animated adaptation of All Star Batman and Robin, it would be sick!!!
Oh man I hope they don't, that comic was awful.
For really awful crap, turn to The Dark Knight Strikes Back; that makes even ASBAR seem a decent comic
maldicientin They were both terrible.
Yeah, It Would Literally Be Sick.
Sick is the word
The only time there was a Bruce with emotion is the batman series Bruce Wayne
The part were bruces freind on the other side of the table saying things have changed. People would stand for you. Sounds like whats going on now. Criminals being vauled over people.
It’s James Gordon, now the former police commissioner of Gotham’s police. Essentially he and Bruce are forced to come to grips with aging and not being able to take part in this new crime wave.
"You and that ginger ale of yours pretending it was champagne". I don't get this line, what does he mean by that?
+Ronnie Derrell oh...he meant it *literally*. i thought it was some weird metaphor.
He dosent drink
kefka3 when he Was batman he didn't drink
Batman part of the Straight Edge Society?
It was explained in Batman: Year One. Gordon investigates and interviews Bruce. He's looking like he's drunk on champagne with a girl who doesn't speak English. When Alfred comes into the room he states "I take it I can take the ginger ale and put it back in the correct bottle?" After Gordon leaves.
Gordon: "I've got one more month at this job, and I'd love to spend it nailing the mutants"
Archer: "Uh, phrasing"
Gordon: "If they want to take me on, I'm delighted"
Archer: "Phrasing!"
Gordon: "Come and get me"
Archer: "HEY! PHRASING!"
Hey, if you wanna "nail" the mutants, that's your business Jim. Don't pull me into that shit. You do you.
How did Bruce fool anyone into thinking he wasn't batman
The one thing I don't dig is his struggle with his parents death still at this age. I lost my brother four years ago. Even found his body. I just don't see someone getting that tore up in their day to day 50 years later
Everyone deals with death differently. I’ve never been able to get over my uncles death, he died 10+ years ago.
@@mustafasafeer4428 I'm sorry to hear that man. My only point is Batman is supposed to have this mental fortitude and unflinching will. He's like 70 in this film I guess I just figured he'd have found a way to deal. Anyway man sorry to hear about your uncle man. Ya need anything man, reach out.
You'd be surprised, PTSD is a fickle bastard. Know from second hand experience. Seeing your parents murdered as a child in front of you; scars a person for life.
@@solidsnack352 A mixture of PTSD, weakness, and it tying into his what has become his life's mission and feeling like a failure.
00:10 80s Raphael!
So, I’m guessing that, chronologically speaking, Batman Beyond is after this story?
No. Different universes
raimi all powerful I know that, now stop spoiling my fun.
So does that mean Bruce cut contact with Grayson, and Jason canonically stayed dead in this universe and was not revived by ra’s?
My man Bruce gulping drinks
