  • Removing the starter on a Volvo 240 can be a little difficult. In this video we show how we do it.
It's a lot easier in a Volvo 740 or 940 because there is a little more space to get at the top bolt, but in a 240 it's more difficult.
Hopefully this is a helpful quick tip for anyone attempting this or struggling with it.

Holy cow, this is probably the best 240 video I've seen yet, Thanks for posting it! You wouldn't happen to remember what size socket you used for bolts, would you?

Thanks for posting this. I am swapping starters from my 87 to my 92. The extraction is complete! Now I get to do it all over again tomorrow. I noticed you edited out the breaking bolts loose part. After doing it I can see why...

Sometimes they can be a little tight. But if you are patient and careful you can get them with this setup.

Totally understood. Now that I'm looking at the 92 the starter looks a little smaller, maybe lighter duty than the one from the 87. I'm hoping the bolt pattern lines up when I go to swap it out.

Thank you so much! I figured out why it was so hard. I pulled it from a car with the m47 5 speed and installed it in one with the aisin auto. Different animal! The 5 speed made it way harder to get the top bolt. Couldn't have done it without your guidance.

I broke 2 daisy extensions already trying to get that top bolt off. I just applied some deep creep on threads a few times over going to go back at it soon. Thinking 1/2 drive this time

Great video. But what about getting it back in? Stacking wood blocks? Bailing wire in one bolt hole? A friend?

That works too, but some people prefer not to do it.

The only way I do it, small hole causes no problem and reduces that top bolt removal time to about 1 minute

Every 240 starter that I have done I have just drilled a hole in the floor to access the top bolt and then tack welded a plate over the hole and then siliconed the edges

You should stop doing that at once. Is this on your own cars or customers cars? I bet they wouldn't be very happy with you if they found out, savage

@@ChickenManiac No, but I try to repair damage on my cars and my customers, not create damage. This is the internet and where everyone talks freely and speaks their mind, if we were in person I would use exactly the same words. Savage whoever drills holes in any car for any reason
