This was very cool! Everyone always says that "the starter is bad, needs to be replaced" so seeing someone take one apart and clean up the corrosion to get it working again was neat. I recently "fixed" my car that wouldn't start. I did a little investigating and inspected the starter and figured out the starter wasn't working because a wire had come unattached! Bolted it back on the solenoid terminal it belonged on and car started up no problem.
I don't understand a word he said. He could well be speaking Dutch. But his step by step tear down, cleaning and polishing the commutator and test run after the works is crystal clear. Thank you.
Thanks a ton for this video. Not very many videos online where someone is willing to tackle disassembling a starter. Its almost a lost skill. Was able to fix the starter earlier on my 1994 chevy k2500 which had a stuck solenoid. Cleaned the contacts inside the solenoid, greased the plunger and upgraded power cables and now she starts first crank.
I've had loads of problems at work with our starter motors (lot's of machinery) I've cleaned the comm and freed off stuck or worn brushes. . . and had great results. . . but I have never tried this . . . I never thought of it. . . . I'll be doing this every time I strip one now. . . THANK YOU my friend
Sometimes when people replace their starter they don’t really need to! Especially if you’re doing it yourself so you don’t pay labor it’s worth a shot to clean or sometimes even rebuild the starter. The copper pieces in the solenoid can also be rebuilt or flipped to recondition it.
Great video, thanks. My problem personally is starter bolts were loose when i looked under . Happens every year when it gets cold. I put some blue thread locker on it so hopefully it stays put this time.
My bug 63VW solenoid was lazy applied same concept never thought about cleaning armature thanks anyway from one Milo to another good job love Diesel's cries memories of my cindie bear brought smile to my ❤️.
Great!was about to rip my stater apart, but didnt know what the little wire point was for. Nothing wrong with my starter, wiring problem! New wire clip, problem solved! Dankje man!!!
Thank you for your video, my problem was the positive to the solenoid had rusted contacts. Your video saved me some money and got me mobile again. At least until i can get a new starter. Appreciate it😁👌
Some years ago a bloke purchased a Mazda RX7 rotary that wouldn't start due to low compression. So he wired 24 volts to the 12 volt starter motor and away it went :)
That was really entertaining - it was like watching the Swedish Chef from the Muppets excepts in a garage instead of a kitchen! Very informative as well!
Dankjewel .
Thanks for this great video, I'm gonna try and clean my starter motor and see if I'm lucky. At this moment my starter motor does not even turn anymore, but as over the last couple of weeks I had noticed how it started losing more and more power until it finally refused to move at all I guess it might be a matter of a good inner cleanup.
Milo you should have said take the negative battery cable off first and replace it last . Cool video just the same . Lost count years ago how many starters I have done .
I replaced starter motor in my car It was fine... i disconnected battery and all. New motor worked fine, car started I went stupid, turned car off and went to double check to make sure all the bolts were tightened properly... and didn't disconnect the battery. Lots of sparks flew that day, I had a mini heart attack, but no injuries and no damage. I definitely learned from my mistaked
Hope me comment makes subtitles. My starter tests good on bench but won't crank on truck. Already replaced a bad solenoid and still no dice. I was looking for confirmation with video that it could still just be too weak under load. Plan was to do exploratory surgery with this thought in mind. Thanks. Now I'll give it a try with some hope.
As you did after the cleaning I'd suggest attaching to the threaded stud first than touching to the case to avoid buggering the threads from arcing. An arc burn on the case is nothing compared to messed up threads.
I'll be honest, I thought this was AvE when I saw the thumbnail. Pleasantly surprised regardless. And I think I might try this on one of the machines at work
Super, Abo und like! 👍✌️🙄
This is by far the most helpful video I've watched. My car's starter was doing the exact same thing. Cleaned and put back on and car started right up.

I really prefer these videos where you are fixing rather than destroying stuff. And we get to learn something !

Thanks a bunch for the well translated subtitles! Great explanation and well filmed as always.

echt tof man!!

Had the same problem on my Toyota. Copied what was done on video, and starter works like a dream now!
Great job ! I learned from your video. I didn't know a starter could be cleaned like that. Thank you for your video, Jim in USA

You may just have saved me a LOT of cash. Thanks for your trouble, your a star.

Your video helped me get a motorcycle starter going. Thank you so much!
Its good when a plan works
Very very amusing video. I love the bit when it starts the fork lift. Brilliant!!
A bit shocked you put the parts on a gritty floor and not a mat but it worked and the advice helped a lot, thanks!
Very good video, you have the gift of making something that isn’t very entertaining, very entertaining!! Thank you
Great video, thanks. My problem personally is starter bolts were loose when i looked under . Happens every year when it gets cold. I put some blue thread locker on it so hopefully it stays put this time.

So... that should have been obvious for me, but i actually learned something on UA-cam today. Thanks mate.
I like the way the dog is crying because of the forklifter doesn't start

lol what a lad! good video despite your lack of work bench space and untidy shed ;)
This made it BETTER for me. These are my working conditions :) and this inspires me. :)

Mooi man, ga zo door!
Thrugh the magic of automatic translation i could watch this video. Good job! Great video!
Excellent Video Mate. It's worth trying as starter motors cost between 1- £200 in the UK
You have a great attitude, I loved your video.
That was really entertaining - it was like watching the Swedish Chef from the Muppets excepts in a garage instead of a kitchen! Very informative as well!
Nice one bro, and thanks for the English subtitles 🤙
Dankjewel .
I didnt understand a word you were saying,BUT I did learn while watching!

Great vid, Milo! Really liked the way you edited this one! And learned a lot!
It's so cool to see you can solve every problem, we can learn from you! ✌👏👍💪💪

And I'll drive to Washington and help pay for half his dinner PLUS his dessert! :)
Very nice video! Regards from Croatia!
I love your videos you are best youtuber
I fully agree with this comment. And you really explain it rather clearly so even a total initiate like myself understands.
Gr Johan
That's genuinely helped! Many thanks!
Really helpful - thanks :) My commodore is starting but labouring - this will help with a fix.
At first I thought there was some odd whine when starting. Then I realized it was Diesel crying for attention.
Petrol. You caan actually see the Plug Wires.
Point taken.
Same
Diesel is gets excited if I start engines. Also this starter was very interesting for him.
Dirceu Corsetti The forklifter had a supercharger, that's why it was whining 😂😂
Thanks for video!
Cheers from Tbilisi.
Thanks for this - I checked my starter yesterday but I didn’t bridge the terminals... will try again now!
Thanks for this great video, I'm gonna try and clean my starter motor and see if I'm lucky. Jaa! De startmotor doet het weer prima! Bedankt!

Love that tractor in the background.
I'll be honest, I thought this was AvE when I saw the thumbnail. Pleasantly surprised regardless. And I think I might try this on one of the machines at work
geweldige video! heb er echt van genoten!
Merci, très bon travail, excellentes explications. Et vous êtes crédible. Good day
Good video, thanks. By the way, look after the Dexta. They are getting rare and it needs something better than car tyres on the front wheels. :-)
Gaat weer goed Milo ga zo door👍🏻
Your videos are brilliant, wish you spoke English but the subtitles do the job😝
Good video dude, nice work.
Great video 👍
