Restoration of a broken Longines Evidenza Swiss Automatic Watch - ETA 2895-2 Service

- Опубліковано 19 вер 2024
- This time I´m restoring a Longines Evidenza Automatic Watch.
It´s powered by the Longines L615, a modified ETA 2895-2 automatic movement. It beats at 28800bph, the lift angle of the balance is at 51° and it has a power reserve of 42 hours.
This model has a stunning "flinque-decor" on the dial, together with the blued steel hands this is definitly a watch to wear on those elegant dinners.
The previous owner of the watch dropped it to the floor - the glass is broken and the case has some bumps.
After polishing the case, the new glass can be glued in with UV-Adhesive.
Some of the bumps on the case will retain visible but there is nothing I can do about that.
Unfortunately those small glass fragments did find their way into the movement and stopped it from working.
Those glass fragments are everywhere...
I need to disassemble the whole movement, clean all the parts and re-assemble it with some fresh oil.
After reassembling everything, this watch is in a fantastic beat (+1 second per day) again.
I hope you liked this restoration, if so, like, comment and subscribe ;)

My father was a gear head. He would rebuild cars and sell them as a hobby. He had a passion for restoring old cars. He once told me that it wasn't work to him. It's how he unwound. It was therapy to him. When I was about 13 years old, I watched him meticulously take apart a carburetor. I was awe struck by the amount of parts ( springs, levers and so forth) that were in that thing. He took every piece apart, cleaned them and put it all together again. I'm 54 now and watching this video reminded me of my dad. It also left me awe struck again. Craftsman and craftsmanship like this is a rarer and rarer thing. When people like this man leave this Earth, it will be like a library burning down to ashes. Thank you for posting this video. You are a dying breed, sir.
I understand your dad 100%. This is my way of healing my soul, too..
very well said.
I also loved rebuilding carbs. Never quite knew what to do with the extra parts
@@jondrew55 // You start making a new line of watches; the *Carb-o-matic!*
My dad was a jet engine mechanic for 30 years in the Marine Corps. When he worked on our cars, it was amazing how detailed he was. The jets flew and the cars drove like they were brand new. I picked up some of his habits and am so thankful for him...that's why I love these videos, too.
The most under-appreciated thing about these videos: They are completely visual. I cannot express how much I enjoy the fact that there is NO narration, but important information is still given.
Nicely done 👍
I absolutely agree. As much as I enjoy the content With speech on some UA-cam channels I have to say some people do like the sound of their own voice a bit too much I feel it can get in the way.
This guys skill and knowledge speaks for itself.
100% agree.
Agreed
Well. Some information is given but not everything. He doesn't tell what a high amplitude on the timegrapher means and so on. This guy is like God for watches like PLASMO - plastic models for scale modelism, but I think many more information could be given provided that many of us, i guess included you, have a huge interest on how a watch works and why and so on. But for what you said about the no talking video... this is just soooo relaxing dude! There's another guy out there called Nekkid Watchmaker who actually talks in his videos but still, given the fact that his voice is so calm and low, it's just so relaxing!
Some of us like the sounds of the work for ASMR purposes. 😁
I do not know who this person is. I can’t stop watching these videos. I am so amazed on how this person can fix watches and even more amazed when the person takes all the screws, gears and everything else out of the watch and put it back together in no time.
Very nice work. I would cherish that restored piece more than buying it brand new. Because the piece had a bit of history to it and you restored it to life.
It hurts me to see that plastic spacer in such a fine looking watch
Totally. A lame solution for such an engineering marvel.
I don't know nothing about watches, but I could imagine that plastic part was not chosen to save costs but to protect the clockwork from shocks and for being a great seperator between the ovalish outer and round inner parts.
@@wakeup5998 you may be right on the buffering effect.
Plastic is the world's use ,and you see that in lots of watches, I keep wondering what alternative 🤔.
I love LONGINES watches for their design and perfection! You miraculously recovered a broken watch! Everyone who likes Longines like me gives us a thumbs up
I always enjoy the "silent" humor you put into your videos. Very clever and not so easy to pull off. Great work!
This is your best video yet. No music, some funny little moments and pure skill and expertise on display.
Big fan of the silence with the signage. I declare it yours in the UA-cam watch community.👍
Best relaxation in the world is to watch somebody carefully disassembling a watch, restoring it and putting together again.
На работу этого Мастера можно смотреть бесконечно. Вы МАСТЕР!
все верно сказал
A top quality restoration. One thing that's missing from the restoration videos is the history behind the watches being restored.
The strap would not have been my first choice. But the watch itself looks great again.
Agreed, I would have replaced with a leather strap.
Nooo. :P this new strap is soooo much more in line with the watch itself. Look at the hands, at the crown, etc. all these blue accents. that comes back in the strap. And the dial is white. Same as the stitching. Excellent choice. :P
only thing i didnt like was that he did not repair the casing. All these dents could be polished out. Look at "the nekkid watchmaker" he can do it. Use sandpaper strips, etc. If it means new chrome .. he does that.. in a bath with chrome electrolyte and a machine, etc. It can be done.
@@huijskes The design and the color of the strap are ok. The rubber for a watch like this it's garbage imo.
@@huijskes that will take away the originality of the case.
@@huijskes it's like putting a piece of Lego in place of a diamond on a ring.
There are relatively few men in this world who have the ability to do such intricate workmanship, I certainly don't have the patience or the skill but I certainly have a great appreciation for those who do.
What a fine job you do.
I'd love to see you restore my Omega Seamaster I have . The watch is about 62 years old and was given to me on my 21st birthday by my dad who bought it when was 18 in London.
He is now 80 this year and he would love to see it new again!
Keep up the videos cheers Lee
Big admiration here, you need 4 things... Knowledge, a very steady hand, good light, proper, quality tools... oh and another.... Large reserves of patience... I like old clocks, but my eyesight not good enough for this kind of precision work
Просто прекрасно. Глаз не оторвать от процесса работы. Великолепно. Мастеру уважение и лучших пожеланий.
...не ролик, а залипалово!!!
Beautiful restoration. I am bit disappointed to see a plastic retainer inside this classy watch. Makes it look like a Q&Q.
I find the poor concentricity of the balance more annoying.
It made the watch look cheap
Give over 🙄
Same thing I saw in an omega watch in another video here
it’s a conditioned technical choice: to reduce the overall weight of the watch
I’m honestly pretty new to watches and don’t understand much about how they work. But I get a great appreciation for the craftsmanship behind them from watching these videos. Well done.
My favorite new watch technology is the self-healing crystal. Simply amazing.😄
Brought back to life , how you remember where everything goes back is astonishing to me. Well done sir 👍
That glass was shattered worse than most childhood dreams.
Very elegant piece, nice to see it restored to such detail.
I just love watching these damaged yet intensely beautiful things brought back to perfect condition again. I am so in awe of your skill and knowledge... I honestly never knew there was so much beauty inside the case of a watch. And no irritating muzak to detract from the pleasure of watching you work. Bravo! 👏👏👏👏👏
It must be so incredibly satisfying putting all the pieces back right were they belong
Very happy to have discovered this channel. I'm in awe of the skill and knowledge required to undertake these restoration and honestly never realised how complex the tiny inner workings on these watches are. Absolutely fantastic.
No matter how stressful my day, I can always watch these videos and calm down...
I aspire to be this professional with my passion one day
Go for it! No better time than now!
I agree with Curt's Clocks, follow your passion now, time goes way too fast and you can't get it back. Good Luck! Do It!!!
O cara e muito bom
What 💜♥️I love the best is your silence, your professional workmanship, closeup of the tools and especially…ESPECIALLYthe real noises of the wirk
Skilled craftsman indeed - a pleasure watching them work....humbles the rest of us.
I had to think about that strap for a minute but then realized it's rubber and water-proof. The old strap looks like it had seen some sweaty days and you did the owner a favor by giving him a strap that will last a lot longer than leather or fabric. Beautiful restoration...that damn glass got into everything!
Сказать - ювелирная работа, ничего не сказать !!!!!!!
Волшебство ❤️
...from a third story window, judging by that damage. No, but seriously, I've never been a tank watch guy, but this restoration has changed my mind. Beautiful!
I really like your work! My son (4 years) loves watches and clocks of all kinds since he was 1 1/2 years old. He even assembles and disassembles them. Your videos have an educational and inspiring character for him.
Keep up the good work!
Greetings from Germany!
The only watch I could have dismantled as a 4 year old was an hourglass 😁
Beautiful. Kind of amazing to see such a gorgeous ornate movement behind a solid case back. Shows real quality when the owner would never see it anyway.
Beautiful watch, but boy, was I disappointed when I saw that plastic movement holder.
You gave another watch the kiss of life for years to come. Great work. The strap compliments the face of the watch.
That’s not only a watch
restauration, it’s a love story!
Amazing.. The final result is trully astonishing. I collected watches, new and vintage and always admire people behind every watch-making. This video proves it, how such craftsmanship, passion and patience deserve admirations.
What a pleasure it is to hear nothing, but see everything. Beautiful high calibre repair work and video ...sometimes less is infinitely more.
I think these style of watches have such a classic look.
I wonder how long it took and how much it cost to repair this watch.
It is beautiful work.
I remember 50 years ago, there were many watch repairers who did this kind of work, taking watches apart and oiling the mechanism. They charged about 10-20 Hong Kong dollars (3-4 USD). Since the digital watches came about, one cannot find any more street watch repairers except for changing straps and batteries. It is a shame such delicate skills are now very rare.
It is wonderful to see an expert working on these small and beautiful machines. However, a short comment now and then would help some of us to understand what is happening and not happening in disassembling and assembling.
Legend has it, this man has never drank a cup of coffee in his life
No shaking hands?😁
6:20 look again Bucko!! He is zooming!
The dent in the case.... the DENT !!! When I look at your work I see a capable watch maker.. The dent however can be fixed, I believe it is worth the effort..
You are a genius. I loved every second of this video. You are a great watch repairer. How you remember where all the bits go back makes my mind spin
Thanks for sharing
I appreciate the way to rescue these old watches by giving them a new life chance. Recycling :-).
I guess I'm the only one that enjoys the music when he puts it back together in other videos. I always found his music picks to be calming.
I just would never be able to repair a watch but seeing people that are able to and know what to Do is really satisfying
It’s so calming watch this level of skill in today’s fast paced life..thanks
buy a micro welder to seal holes in the watch case then file and polishing work and there is no trace of denting. Great Job ❤️
Those micro welders are pretty expensive.... Maybe some day 😉
@@RedDeadRestoration its character and history. People sometimes get suspicious of sheer perfection.
@@RedDeadRestoration it's just a small suggestion or hint :-) great job anyway
These videos are so hypnotic! Such a pleasure to watch - so relaxing!
What an impressive skill you have sad that watches are going out of style only a few people wear them anymore! The phone replaced them sadly.
That glass repair is impeccable lol
Нрнешзн
It was a new glass
@@londonoverground
I think Mister Wood knew that and was being ironic; hence the lol at the end of his post.🙄
@@rjrj4750 oh yeah.
Magic :)
I have this exact same "style " watch and leather band made by a different company.
It's one of my favorite watches.
You do good work.
I could never get a complex piece of machinery back together like you do.
My watch is in "brand new" condition though.
Keep up the good work.
That watch you repaired is a work of art.
I will never buy another watch with a battery again. I have around 60 watches in my collection. Some are kept in my safe.
I am not sure just how your channel ended up in my feed, but i am glad it did and am now subscribed. I find it oddly relaxing to watch the deconstruction/reconstruction process. Thank you for taking the time to produce this content. I also appreciate the neatness and orderliness of your workbench!
It’s amazing that you managed to keep up with every component of this watch and replace them back to original settings
I love to tinker with stuff and these videos are relaxing for me! Aside from that, the repairs are always on point. Great job my friend
Enjoyed watching you work your magic. The Longines is a thing of beauty.
Is it me or are watching these not only satisfying but relaxing as shit
yes it is, indeed.
Watch it with some classical music or relaxing music.
As a master craftsman myself I really do appreciate your craft.Madd Skill as we say in SoCal.
Verygoodslimwatches.siwss.love.liprotect.my.lick.
Beautiful movement. I was surprised to see a plastic movement retainer in a Longines, though! 12:14.
Doesn’t make me feel so bad about some of my watches that have plastic retainers. 😆😉
Gran trabajo.
Absolutely beautiful! Love the strap! A gorgeous timepiece 👍
No commentary but the best videos to watch. The black belt was good than the blue one, viewers opinion.
Anyone else feel anxiety creeping in when he dissembled all the many little parts? I would have felt so overwhelmed putting it all back together.
TOTAL anxiety and really overwhelmed I felt!
U have never seen a chronograph nor a repeater, didn't you?
Quite therapeutic..
If you don't know well about automatic movement parts, don't ever try to dissemble it as it will be a HUGE pain in the XXX
to put them back together ! !
@tponn Which he probably doesn't need - but I would!
Fantastic work. I make knives and bows by hand , and work on all kinds of motorcycles , but I WOULD NOT” have the patience to work on a beautiful watch like that. Well done sir.
Well done fixing that watch, it's a beauty.
Least said about that strap the better eh (eeeek!)
Totally agree. It certainly wouldn't be my choice.
For the strap I say: Burn it with fire!
The old one or the new one?
@@traviswalker8933 The new.
I think the blue strap goes well with the hands. Nicely done.
Truly a master of the craft however I do humbly disagree with the choice of band but I support you nevertheless
I like it with the blue hands.
@@artsohc I do like the blue, very Longines. Not that big of a fan of the texture, but as long as the person wearing it likes it...
Nice renovation, I'm surprised to see so much plastic inside
Nicely done restoration to that lovely Longines Automatic. A lot of glass fragments to clean out and servicing of the entire movement. Well done. Not too crazy about the strap choice...but great looking watch... Kudos
I'd never have the patience (nor the steady hands) to do this sort of precision craftsmanship - bravo!! (A pity to see Longines using a plastic movement holder, though.)
I admire this kind people👍How amazingly doing this type of job for me its an Art👍I salute👏👏👏
Es ist erstaunlich, mit wie viel Sorgfalt der Restaurator hier vorgegangen ist.
So that's what a cracked sapphire crystal looks like... :)
Seeing this, I can't believe how lucky I was when I dropped my Steinhart from just above waist height onto a bathroom-tile floor. It landed right on the (slightly domed) sapphire crystal. The movement went out of regulation (from +1 to +2s/d before to -7 to -9s/d after the drop), but the case and crystal were totally fine. I couldn't find any damage, even under a 6x loupe. It still taught me a valuable lesson to be much more careful with my watches in the future... :)
Please do more like these without music. It's so relaxing and calming to see your work beginning to end with natural sound.
I do like the music when you're showcasing though.
Alternate Title: "Crystal Removal Made Easy" :) Great workmanship!
You really are an Artist, Sir.
I'll be thankful if you kept me as being your prentice, Sir.
Regarding the dent in the case there are special micro tig spot welders that can fill those dents (or even more nice/expensive: laser welders)
But thats maybe more something for someone that specializes in case repair (or jewelers in general)
Even the insides of this Longines is beautifully made.
That old strap sounds like my knees. Damn, I'm getting old.
Not old... Crispy...
I am feeling like its my baby when your doing its surgery Dr, finally you saved it thank you.
Amazing work, as always!
My hat is off to you for having this skill. Amazing.
Great work, a small tig weld 316L fill the dent you could have made it perfect very attractive watch different shape and elegant dial
There are masters who make new straps while preserving the original accessories.
People who repair say, the case has some signs of wear.
People who sell watches say, the watch has character!😂
Sounds familiar 😁
Good job.I to London sent my Longines for service from Mumbai . Lets see how good the job is done. Amazing watch. I cherish it like my lifetime partner.
Hi, just found this video, and it's breath-taking for a non-watchmaker to see it done; but I do not understand how he fixed the glass (I think it;s called a "crystal")
Was it magic; or did he just buy a new one ??
It's a new one 😉
@@RedDeadRestoration Oh; and I thought it was going to be MAGIC !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Idk how I stumbled upon this channel..but it is very impressed. I love these watches
Great band choice. Looks fantastic.
congratulations, you are the man of time. your work is always encouraging when you see yourself.
I like the colour but I couldn't bring myself to put a silicone strap on that watch.
I know what you mean. I'm a little bit special in the choices of my straps I guess 😁
This deff needs an alligator strap
@@jdstarek
Yes.
@@RedDeadRestoration I went from is he crazy or what... to wait.... to nit bad at all, kinda match the blue hands
@@RedDeadRestoration do you have the link for the stap? I like it!
This type of body was popular 15 to 20 years ago. I personnaly consider this one the best of them all
Beautiful styling, Gorgeous 27 jewel Automatic movement, highly polished stainless case, crystal bezel. All this going for it, but the mechanisms spacer between it and the case is plastic instead of say Tortoise shell, or Bake-lite... the mind boggles at that... o_0 but then again what do i know of watches other than it must have take a seriously talented mind to come up with concept in the first place. all those tiny parts working in harmony together... who wouldn't be awed by that. All this going for it, so why the purple plastic looking kids wrist strap????
I'm a watch noob, watching this vid is an absolute delight.
Thumbs up for everything but the choice of strap :)
Beautiful 💚. I bought a Longines Conquest quartz a long time ago, I regret not buying an automatic.
I know for sure I could take it apart-know for sure I could put it back together-question is how many so called extra parts will I have left over?-nice job
All extra parts means is that you put it together better than the first person did. Lol
Beautiful watch. Watching you restore it was therapeutic.
