This is the absolute best instructional video for collie ear bracing. Use Japanese tape and follow instruction to a T. Make sure ears are clean and dry before taping. I usually cut all the pieces needed and put them on the bar of his grooming table so I can pick one at a time to fix the ears easily. Takes a while to do this, but results are excellent.
I leave them taped until they loosen up. Then take them off and watch for a couple of days to see how they are doing. Varies from dog to dog, just keep taping until they stay down.
@@marielinmunroe3087 Do you cut or style your hair? Do you dye it? Do you have any piercings? Tatoos? Have you given yourself a manicure? Pluck your eyebrows, shave yourself anywhere? On chemical birth control of any kind? If you do anything to yourself that alters or changes your body in any way, do you really have any rational argument that validates your objection to training the growth habit of puppy ears while they're still soft and malleable? I don't think you do. Rethink your objection on the basis of what things you might do to alter your own body.
A third of the ear should flop naturally, A Collies ear is not meant to be upright, it is natural protection when the dog is working in harsh weather conditions!!
Thank you for the excellent video instruction! I'm looking at taping my Sheltie's ears. His ears were perfect until he started teething and then, as you said, helicopters set in! He is six mos. as of today and has longer, less thick ears. We're going to give it our best shot. I'm hoping he's still a good candidate at his age.
Very concise presentation. I was quite interested in the long term effects which you touched on just a bit at the end. My rough collie is 8 weeks so she’s in the market for some ear taping. I have had two collies over the years but each was already an adult when I got them and both had great ear presentation.
Does it not count as cheating? Rough collies' ears should be tipping naturally, totally erect ears are a disqualifying fault as far as I know. As this is an inheritable genetic trait taping would mask the fact in the show ring, that the dog has a fault.
I just did my first taping of my collie puppy ears. Your video is perfect. Only thing is I can only find dog ear tape called Yutokuban and its very expensive and takes 2 weeks to arrive. What tape are you using. I like the way yours rips with your fingers.
I have one of your kennel's progeny. I just got a puppy from Accolade Collies from Lucy and Echo! Thanks for the video (I'm working on perfecting it) and for such a wonderful puppy!
I LOVE their little ears. But this would have been good to know for my moms old dog. He was a lab sheperd. His ears didn't wanna stand for nothin. But it was cute.
I thought this was a very good and instructional video. One of the ears has come out and I now have to do it myself. The tape has been out for a few weeks and the puppy is 5mos old. Is it too late to do it again and for how long do you leave it in before you know they are set? Thanks.
Where do you get the Japanese or Sheltie ear tape? I have a five year old Brussels Griffon who began recently holding his ears flat to his head both in the show ring and on our walks. it makes such a difference to his face and expression and I know this has cost us points. Do you have any advice for me? I appreciate the taping a bracing information, but may not be what we need.
I'm ready to give up. I'm using your method to tip my blue merle rough collie's ears. He will be five months old this coming week. The tips of his ears aren't lifting at all. When the tipping comes out the base of his ears are up but the whole upper part tips over like a younger puppy. If I let the ears rest for a day or so the base of his ears drops too. Is this normal?
I leave them in for up to 2 weeks then redo. Most important while they are teething. The ears may go haywire if you don't brace them as shown in the video.
It's not cropping. Nothing harmful is done to the dogs ears. It doesn't bother them, so how is it cruel? And they are not straightened, they are folded as per the breed standard. Don't like it, then don't do it.
When collie ears r up is not nice really my 4 month collie have ears not to far and not to close together but they not up on his head like giraffs horns
Really is abusive for the animal. This "confirm to breed standard" is an archaic value that needs to be modernized. Personally I think this, or docking tails OR clipping ears is abusive.
Lynn Janssen people do this aparently for the dog to look good i have a rough collie and i am sk happy his ears r a little down like perfect collie would when they on top of the head they look ugly dont know why people do this tbh
It's written in the breed standard how the ideal collie's ears are suppose to be - don't like it? Fine. But don't complain about it on other people's dogs.
The dog is really not enjoying this - it seems quite overkill frankly. The only point is to try to obtain standard appearance - which basically, if a dog needs this much taping to achieve it, then the parent dogs are obviously not good breeding stock.
Kristen Slice wow I didn't know that you liked dogs like pugs...with respiratory issues..I also didn't know that you liked bloodhounds with droopy eyes. That's basically what you're implying. All you care about is a perfect, dog breed...it makes me sick...

Very, VERY well done. You kept it short, concise and very simple to understand!
I learned so much through this video on taping collies ears. Thank you so much ❤. It now doesn’t seem so daunting to me as a new breeder.
Why tape the doggo's ears?
ive got my very first litter of 5 and your video is going to be a lifesaver
I would NOT buy a dog from you if you did this to it

I have two beautiful sable collies. I never taped their ears and they are tipped. Both dogs i had since 7 weeks. Both boys. Such gorgeous dogs
Just bought my first rough collie pup and this has been really helpful. Thanks!
Thank you so much for posting this. It seems much more humane and way less expensive than the instruction I got. Absolutely love your dog too!
I have had collies for 40 years and never heard of doing this? Is it a show thing?
I've been thinking about getting a collie. I didn't know they needed their ears taped. Thanks for the information.
such an obedient doogie ! So cute!
Thanks for your video. I wish the breeder would have told me when I bought my collie
Such a beautiful dog!
Love this video! I use a moleskin brace with the Japanese tape. Works so well! Thank you for making this video!
That dogo is a pure treasure!

This is so helpful. I'm going to try this method on my Sheltie. Thank you for sharing.

You wouldn't do anything for their ears.
nawww what a beautiful dog
wow, that looks really great! Well, tomorrow I'll have a first try on your method! thank you so much for sharing!!

He is so beautiful.

Wow so well behaved!!
Thank you for this lesson. What's the name of the tape?
This was such a great video... the instructions were very clear and informative. Thank you for posting!!! And the collie pup was just beautiful!!!
I only clicked on here to find the comments saying this is animal abuse
Thank you!
Where do you get the Japanese tape,,?
This is great thank you so much!
Can we see a video of what happens when the tapes are removed? Also, does anyone know how the dog feels about this? I doubt he likes it...
Great video... thanks!Who is the breeder of that beautiful collie puppy?
The tape can be purchased at ?
The English dogs seem to have a different head type than the Americans.
So helpful!!! Thank you!

Rough Collies standard calls for ears to break 1/4 of the way down from the top and tip forward. Why would you want your dog to have pricked ears?!
My collies ears stick up naturally?
Thank you 👍💕
BEAVO. Thanks for sharing.
How long must the tape be on the puppy??

Thanks a lot for your advice, I have a 12 month old Sheltie dog and will like to do it to him, it is painful at this age?
No, not painful at all.
I hope , one day someone will do this to you, humans!!
Traducir al ESPAÑOL por favor.
Gracias !!
Nooooo :-(
The collie standard calls for ears to break 1/4 of the way down from the top and tip forward. Why would you do this to a perfect being?!
Podria TRADUCIR ??
Doesn’t even look like a collie anymore
I think it’s cruel to straighten their ears. I have a rough collie and we don’t do this in the uk

Dwaa❤...hug it😚😚😚😚😚
Is there any actual benefit to this or is it just to make your dog fit your ideal beauty standrards? haaaa wtf?
To confirm to the breed standard. IT'S NOT A BEAUTY thing. It's the written blueprint of the ideal Collie.
It’s for show quality. They will not be showable unless their ears are not flipped down.
Really is abusive for the animal. This "confirm to breed standard" is an archaic value that needs to be modernized. Personally I think this, or docking tails OR clipping ears is abusive.
@@kristenslice561 Not actually...and the "standard of the ideal Collie" as far as looks go IS a "BEAUTY thing"
His ears are tipped naturally, why are you using tape

Why do you tape its ears?

To conform with breed standard, and so they don't stick out, but look balanced and elegant. This makes for a lovely ear set and enhances beauty.

He is getting stressed
A puppy.
how unnatural - why the heck would you tape his ears? Ever tried taping your ears? shame on you
Breed standard.
Kristen Slice breed standards?seriously?have you seen pugs and bloodhounds?breed standards are completely unnecessary.
Yes i have, and it wasn't really painful tbh
@@kristenslice561 'Breed Standards' are ruining dogs, A Collies ear needs to tip, for protection!!!
@@bonzo2000 Nope. The breeders putting out crap quality are ruining the breeds! Prime example is the Mastiff. TOO many are morbidly obese.
