I have a rough collie and starting to feel like it's a rare breed so few vids on them. Thank you so much! Beautiful dog. Mine is the sweetest dog I've ever known. Great dogs!
In the UK last year there were only 500 registrations with the kennel club - contrast with 10K back in the 70's/80's. They are sadly dying out. I hope that changes as they are the most beautiful dogs in so many ways and bring a lot of joy and calm to people.
I'm getting a collie pup soon and I want to know everything about grooming it before I get it so I won't be one of those people who don't groom the dogs. Thank you for this video!
It’s really important to keep on top of your grooming and trimming of the hox areas. I have two rough collies myself and I groom them a lot as they are show dogs
I’m on my third roughie, my first I had for 17 years, the second for 15 and my latest is three. All beautiful sables. No problem grooming the first two, but I’m afraid my new boy much prefers to look like a cross between a scarecrow and a floor mop!! I spend much of the grooming time chasing him around in circles and he runs when he sees the scissors!! We manage a daily brush and a weekly paw trim, but he’s a happy boy and the mud brushes off when he eventually dries off 😂😂 he’s just come in from the garden trailing various bits of plant life and many leaves 🤷♀️
megan Huggins • I have a Sheltie and he a d not like his paws touched, but when we moved to Florida he would get burrs in his paws and I would have to get them out. He learned to trust me because I got the painful burrs out. Now I can touch his paws as much as I want to.
I'm preparing for a rough collie next year, this is so useful ! If you plan on having more videos, can you show how to groom the belly and sanitary area ?
A B you do not cut the areas on their belly and under as it won’t grow back properly . If you find your dog is abit messy use baby shampoo and clean them
Responsibly bred, Collies are known for their sweet temperament. Any dog will need to be trained and worked with to desensitize to grooming, but all the collies I have had have been adaptable and compliant.
Very good video, I also do the paw part with the dog lying down so that he is more relaxed. The difference is that I only use a brush with pins without polka dots on the ends and a good comb, without using the slicker too much, as I learned years ago that it breaks the coat. I also like to put the dog on the table, and start brushing the hindquarters, spraying water or detangling horse manes, as it helps to preserve the coat. I don't try to clean my teeth myself, because I don't have an autoclave and the contaminated instruments can lead to an infection, I liked the video a lot and shared it on FB for Brazilian collie owners friends to learn from it. One of my females, Betty, is the granddaughter of a dog from Finland, more precisely from the Steadwyn kennel, she is beautiful.
Beautiful!❤ Collie is one of my choices for my next dog (when the time is right) I have showed bred, trained German Shepherds for 35 yrs both German and American types. I also worked as a dog groomer on weekends aside my job during the week in a animal supply distributer taking orders, and setting up stores.
Scottail kennel Do you have any tips as to trimming her whole coat? My girl is not nearly as full as yours but she does need thinning out some and around her tail.
If your Collie has a thick undercoat, I would use a dematting tool to get rid of the excess undercoat. It cuts and removes it quite easily. Of course you can use thinning scissors to thin it out, but often it will leave too noticeable marks to the coat. Hope this helps! :)
Great video. I learned a lot. I had to laugh, however, as my rough girl is very spirited. I can bath her, blow her coat out and brush her no problem, but touch her paws and you have a war on your hands. She hates the scissors too...but tolerates a trim...except those paws!
Eric Bacigal That sounds like my boy! I have three collies, 2 female and 1 male, both the girls are easy to groom (not a fan of paws being touched) but my male goes to war if you even THINK about touching his paws ESPECIALLY the back ones! 😂🤣😍
I read you should NEVER use a slicker brush or a Furminator on a rough collie's coat as it will damage their coat. Just use a rake instead. We have the big Oster grooming rake and I was amazed by how well it got up loose hair, plus our puppy looked gorgeous afterward.
For my pet-quality Collies, my main concern is making sure I get the top and undercoat thoroughly detangled. So many people only brush the top coat and are surprised when the undercoat mats because the brush didn’t reach all the way through both layers.
I use an old fork to ease out the hair during the moulting as the poor girl gets a bit stressed. It takes a while and can fill a pillow case every week.
I always said I was going to make a sweater out of it! I never used a fork or those furmonators, but a shedding rake for double coated dogs was absolutely essential to our grooming kit.
Hello there. Thank you for this video. I've got two litter mate tri colored rough collie brothers & brushing is no easy experience. Can you please tell me how your dog is so quiet? Are you using anything relaxing for them prior by chance? Thanks very much.
Wow. So helpful. Our girl is 4 months old and it's -15 below right now in MN. I haven't trimmed her feet. Is that hair between the pads helpful to keep in the winter? At this point I was just touching her paws often to get her used to it. She hates baths...this is going to be fun. But I'm excited to groom her. This is really imformative!
Saliva stains from licking. Many Collies have allergy issues and lick their paws. I kept mine on fatty acid supplements, quality food, and allergy medication, as needed.
Hi Ry it’s not strictly speaking unsafe, but when doing the trimming you can use curved scissors. Basically just lowers the chance of you catching the dog, but with a dog as obedient as this one you wouldn’t need them. They would only be needed if you had a dog that likes to move when grooming or doesn’t stand still, so nothing in this video is unsafe at all.
Bagel Beefis This might be aimed more for people ought to try dog shows, I’d guess. My parents’ old rough collie, Napo, was showered and groomed maybe once or twice a year and it sufficed. Oh man, I miss that fellow. He was a good boy! :-)
I did with mine. I would make it an event. Trash bag, grooming kit, and a padded blankets for my dog to lay on while I watched streaming and leisurely groomed. Shedding season is even more intense. They are wonderful dogs, but not for everyone
I second this. Even with my rescue, it is repetitive and constant grooming. Do it after they are tired from playing and walks. They can lay down and it becomes relaxing for the dog.
I cannot answer for the OP, but I groomed my own, paying special attention to the ears so it looked more polished. The fur also has a tendency to mat behind the ears, so it it really important to make sure this area is thoroughly brushed and trimmed.

Lovely looking dog. Brings back a lot of memories of the dogs we had. Lovely expression and eyes on this boy.
I looked that video over and over again! Thank you so much!!!! Great Video!
what an obedient collie u have 😍
This collie is gorgeous !! and so patient while being groomed!! She knows you are helping her.
Thank you for this video! I needed to learn how to trim my collie’s paw fur, he keeps sliding on our hardwood floors.
This Collie is stunning. Love the face, the structure, the movement🐾💜

This has to be the worlds sweetest dog. My dog absolutely would not allow me to do half of this stuff without heavy sedation lol
Responsibly bred, Collies are known for their sweet temperament. Any dog will need to be trained and worked with to desensitize to grooming, but all the collies I have had have been adaptable and compliant.
I love grooming my collies I find it so relaxing as I’m a groomer and own seven it always makes me happy
I love this video. Your dogs are precious and gorgeous. Happy grooming.
Wonderful video! Brings back memories of my own Collies. 💜

My ex kept our tri color collie. I miss him more than anything D: The sweetest and friendliest dogs.

Love collies! My boy is 16 weeks old.

Thankyou for posting this video! I have a rough collie as well. I am learning as much as possible to groom her myself!
Thank you so much Savannah for the nice comment!

Thank you for so clear and perfect video, ears were my problem to understand properly how much should I trim, now is clear! 😊
Thank you this helped me a lot! Where I live dog grooming is very expensive so this is helpful for the basic things to learn

What a beautiful Collie!
Thank you so much! I have my second show ever tomorrow and I’m using this as a guide for my trim!
Collies are beautiful!
I’m in awe. I REALLY ENJOYED your video. Thank you for sharing 💞
The trimming around the paws was very informative.
I want a collie so bad
Really nice, informative video. Thanks.

You want to earn hard days pay...lol Wash and groom a Rough Collie. The results are totally worth it. Collie's are beautiful.
Just rescued a Collie so i need all the help i can get ^^'
Thank you so much. Beautiful work.
Thanks so much! Just wondering if you need to trim his down-under as well?... I found poop stains and sometimes shit hanging around there lol
Very nice instructional video. Thank you Finland!
I am so happy to own one of his sons❤ He is my best friend and so gorgeous like his father🥰
Such useful video! Thank you for sharing it.
Beautiful job

✔️ Verry Good ⭐
Best impression i had in this life till now 💐🍬🍬🍬🍬🍬
I go crazy for this dog... my son has autism.
How many days in a week i shall groom? And how many times i cut and do all this stuff you do
011 011 Twice a year should be enough, at about when it starts to change it’s fur.
Hi, regarding the Pro Cut Turbo sacks. What nr. will be the best for an adult collie?. Some has a link to the hair clipper ?. Thank you
i wishd id had some day 4 collies
how often should collie get groomed like on the video? :)
Every minute !
I used to do a daily brushing with a deep brush out once a week.

In winter I put doggy shoes on mine in the snow because of the salt and muck from the roads!
What about the back end where the pee, its so fluffy the pee gets stained all over the fur.Can that be trimmed or thinned out.
I have mine shaved in that area
I also trimmed a sanitary trail under the tail for my pet Collies. So much cleaner
It's beautiful
Beautiful!❤️
Great video so thorough thank you!
GREAT video!
Kiitos! hyvä video👍
Is that dark part in the center of the paw supposed to be The color is it irritated or just normal
Saliva stains from licking. Many Collies have allergy issues and lick their paws. I kept mine on fatty acid supplements, quality food, and allergy medication, as needed.
Спасибо Вам Большое за видео!
My collie will tolerate the toe trimming but nail clipping...nope.
I have three and none of mine will tolerate it either.
How much would it cost to have your collie groomed in Ga?
Should you wait till it’s a year old before u start trimming the coat ?
Start grooming the dog early, then you'll have an easier time if the dog is used to it :)
If you're going to be doing any kind of dog grooming, invest in a good quality groomers mask. Look into what groomers lung is.
Would never of thought that would be a problem....bad as I learned about wood lung after years of doing many wood projects.
@@thetightwadhomesteader3089 try doing it in a well ventilated room as well
Thank you.
What's that watch you wearing please ?
I am 26 seconds in to this video and I am wondering how many people will be working on this collie?
Only one, the other is filming it!
@@Scottail A lot of work , but the results are magnificent
No voihan mahoton! Välineurheiluu!

tollanen ois kiva oimistaa ja 4+2 - 6 tollasta

Красота
Um I'm English but is this completely safe the way your doing it?
What part is unsafe in this video?

I WISHD ID HAD DOG LIKE THAT
mansikkarahka1000 Clarion Collies
This is to much collies don't need all this fancy stuff collies are perfect the way they are!THEY MUST BE NOBODY BECAUSE NOBODY'S PERFECT!!!😂😘😘😘🤗🤗🤗
Bagel Beefis This might be aimed more for people ought to try dog shows, I’d guess. My parents’ old rough collie, Napo, was showered and groomed maybe once or twice a year and it sufficed. Oh man, I miss that fellow. He was a good boy! :-)
Well the paw part is very important if you leave the hair there it can get very uncomfortable same with mats in the hair
are you implying that collies dont need grooming??
this is not “fancy stuff” this is a necessity.
not grooming long-haired dogs, allowing them to become matted and in pain is neglectful.
Must spend hours on this...
I did with mine. I would make it an event. Trash bag, grooming kit, and a padded blankets for my dog to lay on while I watched streaming and leisurely groomed. Shedding season is even more intense. They are wonderful dogs, but not for everyone
Why the hair in the feet is bloody red?
sweat stains, its nothing bad or painful.
So richtet man einen hund für eine show her......aber nicht für einen Familienhund
My two year old puppies are not nearly as still and complacent. Yours must be on a sleeping pill...LOLOLOLOL
We just train them from the puppy to be relaxed when we take care of them. Starting very young, once every week or two!
I second this. Even with my rescue, it is repetitive and constant grooming. Do it after they are tired from playing and walks. They can lay down and it becomes relaxing for the dog.
Beautiful grooming🐾🙏💜
Why cut off the long hair around the ears, this is the destruction of beauty?
I cannot answer for the OP, but I groomed my own, paying special attention to the ears so it looked more polished. The fur also has a tendency to mat behind the ears, so it it really important to make sure this area is thoroughly brushed and trimmed.
I have a rough collie and she doesn't get knotted behind ears, it's because I keep a eye on them. Too much trimming for my liking
Beautiful
