- President Joe Biden briefly donned a red Trump hat during his visit to Shanksville, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday to commemorate the 23rd anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.
Shanksville is the site where United Airlines Flight 93, one of four planes hijacked by terrorists on Sept. 11, 2001, crashed, killing all 40 passengers and crew members on board.
The president "spoke about the country's bipartisan unity after 9/11 and said we needed to get back to that" during an appearance at the Shanksville Fire Department, according to White House spokesman Andrew Bates.
In a moment Bates called "a gesture," Biden offered a hat with the presidential seal on it to a man wearing a Trump hat in the audience and autographed it for him. The president then said he needed the man's Trump hat in exchange. As the man put on the presidential seal hat, Biden briefly put the red Trump hat on his head to cheers and applause.
After a few seconds, Biden removed the Trump hat from his head and shook the man's hand. "Just remember," the president said with a grin on his face, "no eating dogs and cats" - a reference to evidence-free and baseless claims former President Donald Trump and his running mate, Sen. JD Vance, have repeated about immigrants in Springfield, Ohio.
