Anyone else nostalgic for 90s pop when they hear the awful music on top 40 radio these days?
Yes, absolutely! This reminds me of being about 12 years old. I live in Scotland, so I always wished for summers like this, instead of our regular cold, rainy ones!
In my opinion, the 90s were the last great decade for music. Music in general, whatever the genre, has been on a steady decline ever since.
@@MrAndre505💯
I can live in cold and a rain, but not in this saturated and sad world.
Always nostalgic for 90s in general
Every time I listen to that song it instantly takes me back to my youth.
Enjoy your youth while you still have it!
And how they stole your sunshine??
It is impossible not to be happy for them. They made one song provide them with enough money to live comfortably for the rest of their lives. The fact that they are still bringing in money from it 25 years later is nothing short of amazing. Good for them.
Thanks More More More How Do You Like it producers for the 3 second loop that made this song!
I agree!
@@andrewmaximo4485yup, the 90s were the product of the next generation of mtv. Overall musicianship of the industry was shamefully low. There have been no standards since, unless u r a studio musician of producer
I miss the 90's, great time to be a teenager - sometimes I wish I could go back, just for a day
I was in my twenties. I wish I could go back for a weekend.
It was a great tie to be in my twenties, too, and I would've loved being a teenager in the '90s.
@@claytonbouldin9381 I was also in my twenties then, and, yeah, to relive a '90s weekend would be a lot of fun. The closest I've come this summer is to go to a party where everyone had to dress as if they were in their favourite decade.
Oh... Me too. So much!
Same here! I couldn't agree more!
July 5th 99 this song was playing on the radio while I was driving My wife to the hospital to give birth to our first child
Does your 25 year old know that anecdote? And how do they like the song?
@@Jelly-Garcia of course she does. Why wouldn't she know that story? I raised her hahaha what kind of question is that?
My daughter was born in 99 also but it was never on my radio more than a couple seconds, long enough to hit the seek button 🤣
@@Ancientcaptain it was in heavy rotation in Canada before anyone in the US even heard of it hahaha
@@elmartillo7931 *why wouldn’t she know that story?* Perhaps it’s something you haven’t thought about in a long time, or hadn’t remembered until seeing this video? Hadn’t come up in conversation. Most people probably wouldn’t know which song was playing on their mom’s ride to the hospital. It’s a nice thing to remember & share tho. How does she like the song?
It's a great success story. He didn't want the fame, just wanted to make music, had a fluke hit and cashed in. Pretty awesome.
Remember this magical summer like it was yesterday ❤❤❤
Yeah great times.
Daytona Beach was prolly the best setting they could have chosen for the music video. Scenes like the arcade and beach packed full of cars capture the essence of of what summer was like during the 80's and 90's. Also that tiny 2-second clip in the video of the modified Honda Civics with body kits is also iconic unto itself, because this was still two years before the release of Fast n Furious.
In the background you could see Paulie D’s mom making him!!
Dang if you listen to More, more, more that’s a little 5 sec part that is never repeated again. Really genius sample and melody he put on that.
Greatest year of my entire life. I was 19. I’ll be 45 this year. I can’t believe this much time has passed & how awful everything is now.
I'm about your age. Everything sucks now
You don't like Taylor swift?
I just turned 44, I hear you 😂.
I was 29 and each year the time rolls by faster
Sorry....
The summer of 1999…I was happy then 😢
Wasn't we all😢😢😢
Brother I think very few of us are happy today .
There is no reason you can’t be happy.
The world is largely the same.
Happiness is relative. I find happiness in my hobbies and pets. No negative people needed.
I had THE BEST job back then. Money was awesome but the business didn't last. But it was great for that time.
The "GO" soundtrack was one of my most worn out cds back in the day. GREAT FUCKING TIMES!
Great soundtrack from an awesome movie. I still play the Go Cd in my car on the drive to work on Fridays. Gotta get into the weekend vibe.
Was the song actually in the movie? I can't remember if it was a trailer song or what.
@@Koinoyokan01I don’t think this song was even in the movie.
I hear it was a good movie but nothing about seems like it would be. I tried watching it a few times and could never get into it.
I've only ever seen it once, but I remember on some VH1 clip from way back, the brother/sister duo talking and saying something like - we know we're a one hit wonder. Everyone should do it, it's great.
Loved the attitude.
I remember that clip! It was neat to see them embrace it and enjoy the moment.
"L A T E R that week" is my fave lyric of all time. 😊😊❤
I remember a lot of laughs around that one.
Sharon created a whole fashion movement. With the Laya hair buns and long dress. Girls looked great, the large sunglasses were everywhere. Women looked there best from 1998 to 2010, after that it all went Frankenstein...
dont like girls with half their head shaved and covered in tats? lol I feel you
It’s back to a laid back 90s vibe at the mall
Before all the lip fillers
Agreed! Except it stopped in 2005, that’s when women started wearing witch shoes where the toes jetted out to make their feet look 4 sizes bigger than they were. WTH was that all about? People try to recreate “y2k aesthetic” these days but fail miserably.
I generally didn't like anything that could be put in the pop category back then but the song was such a part of a few teenaged summers and spring breaks of mine that I couldn't help myself. Every time I hear it I'm in Panama City doing the same things they're doing in the video.
Yeah, sometimes it's ok to get out of your box before you take a long nap in one. It's ok. You're allowed.
You've been in a row with the content man! Was gonna leave a comment but I'll do it L-a-t-e-r this week.
I remember that summer all too well. My graduation summer. The parties, the vibes back then were unmatched. Weird still to say “back then”. Time flies.
Long time ago bud. Best times.
One of my best friends has had my name saved in her phone as “butter tarts” because of the spoken word into in this song, and how much I love this song.
The fact that they named the band after their hilarious homie Lenny is hilarious 😂
They were just a bunch of mad, creative people.
That was a GREAT summer! This song was played loudly often and made it even greater!! Man I miss the 90s.
this song reminds me of staying up until dawn in my room watching music videos. This video was on pretty much every hour on the hour. Life was so much simpler then.
Wow 25 years... that's crazy. That's how old the Beatles were when I was growing up in the 80s basically...
Interesting! I remember watching the video of it on MTV in the summer of 1999. Now I hear the song in car commercials. It has staying power. Interesting story of it
Yup and now in Canada it’s being used for Tim Hortons commercials
I always loved that song ! And the Sister is a doll - so cute. 🎸
Yeah she had that 90s hot style look down pat
@@brianmeen2158 🎯
I was 19 when this song hit! It was played all over the radio and in the clubs we were going to..such a blast of a summer and a great era to be young! I wish I could go back and relive the those years
The return of Red Hot Chili Peppers was a HUGE deal in music and Californications was a huge hit with every single
It wasn't that great
Fuck RHCP. Bungle for life
Classic album front to back(except for Porcelain). It didn’t really take off til a year later but Scar Tissue was huge right away
it wasnt a big deal.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers suck. They sucked before, they sucked then, and they especially suck now.
Always liked that dude's voice. And his sister is hot too but he seems to already realize that 💀
Edit: the craziest part of this is the random ass dude from Len was partying with a member of Broken Social Scene (Forgot is a 10 out of 10 album) and the dude from Sum41. What an eclectic mix of people.
“But he seems to already realize that” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Sharon....I love you!!!
Ugh, the scenes with the blue dress… still my 90’s dream girl!
Sharon is absolutely beautiful. Oh - and a great song too !!!
Killer summer of music. Different times. Graduated high school that year. Countless killer songs across the board. Rock and hip hop.
i was lucky enough to see them live at a club here in San Diego. That was a good night....
When I was 15 my best friends sister started giving us a ride to school. She had 2 12s in her geo tracker and blasted this song every morning. Her door speakers sucked so all you get was blown speakers and bass. Every single time we pulled in she would blare this song…. I guess it was still better than riding the bus
oh man the geo tracker.
@@j.b.708 haha yeah… tight fit. It was bright green and had “daddy’s girl” stickers on it. Slow as hell but it did great in the snow. I’ve seen some nice trackers made into woods rigs.
You Can't Stop the Bum Rush" was an iconic album! Drove from Cleveland to Canada to buy it.❤ great memories
😳
steal my shine. 2000. it doesn’t feel like that long ago. steal my sunshine remains one of my favorite banger songs.
It came out in ‘99, not 2000
Damn has it really been 25 years? I was a freshman in high school in 99'. FML
Time flies man. Scary
Bruh yeah were old that was a LONG time ago 😂
Her youthful enthusiastic voice makes that song.
Just saw a Chevy ad with this song 😅
Tim Hortons is using it now too
I've seen it like twenty times in the past week; I hope they are making some 'tasty' residuals!
Summer of 99. I was 21 and had an absolute blast seeing movies (usually drunk), going to concerts almost every weekend, and enjoying life. I remember listening to this song on my way back to college as the sun was coming up after seeing Counting Crows at the Hammerstein
Fun fact, in the background of the music video, you can see Paulie D’s mom making him! ?!
I got to see LEN live at the calgary stamped, my infant daughter loved that song. The song still gives me the feels every time I hear it.
My friends and I saw Len during the Canadian Indie Rock explosion of the 90s and loved them. Their first two albums (Superstar and Get Your Legs Broke) are two of my favourite albums ever. So happy they got this success with such a catchy song...well deserved!
I was 15 hated it then and still haunts me today in commercials
Omg this song gets even better….it kickstarted broken social scene!!!!❤😂
I lost my sister earlier this year. The day she died we were arguing and this song came on and we both stopped arguing and just sang together like we were kids again.
That's why I clicked on this video. A brother and sister song that brought me and my sister together even during an argument.
RIP sis.
What a great time in my life personally! Summer of 99!! Great video. This is the only song I've ever heard from them. It's a winner!!
Thank you for the post! ✌🏼😊
No problem 😊
@@rnrtruestories 👍🏻😊
I can remember when everyone seen the music vid everyone thought the brother and sister were a couple
I actually thought that until I saw this video today.
I'm in NZ and that was the thinking here too
Yeah im still confused as to why they are hanging on each other like that. When he's behind her n puts his arms around her waist??? WTF😔
@@nemo6365that’s how some brother/sister relationships flow 😲
Mr. Dibbs was on their record. He's now a Cincinnatian. I've had him do a few events at a club I run sound at. Guy plays a bit in the edm scene now.
I still want to marry Sharon. She's so cute.
a classic gen x crush.
Thank you SO MUCH fo this !
I never left the 80s and the 90s
You sir, just earned a new subscriber FOR LIFE!

How crazy this song came up on my playlist yesterday and it was the first time I had heard it in years
Always love this song, and the video is just legend.
It’s weird how famous this song is and even one hit wonders, you can find their big hit in lossless format somewhere on one of the seven seas of the interwebs but this one literally ceased to exist, even mp3 is impossible to find. It’s just weird, man.
My favorite pop song of all time
Those 2 faces aren't gonna sell any records😮😢😅oof!!❤😂 f you dude!
What does your comment have to do with the original person's comment? @@ramcharger154
I'm sorry to hear
Good lord, 25 years ago. I just listened to this song. I am so old now. Still a classic song.
This came across on Apple Music and I wanted to dig into the history of this song. The timing of this video is perfect. Thank you.
OMG sitting with your friends as a teenager getting high and eating 3 cans of spaghetti-o's. Belly so hard it was like a watermelon and laughing, just laughing so hard that you couldn't breath. Ya I had that experience and then I had to grow up and get a CDL. Man those were the days in the early eighties!!!!
...couldn't *BREATHE*
this song was the background for our HS trip - still reminds me of it till this day!
GO soundtrack was packed with bangers
Good stuff. It’s a memorable song . Len getting tired of being on the road - I can only imagine what a grind that would be but still beats a 9-5 😲
I love that tune still. It takes me back instantly, to a time when I was a wild teen. ❤
Such a feel good song. So cool!!🔥☀️😎🎶💗
I carried such a torch for Sharon!
I'm from Nova Scotia and didn't realize the Halifax connection. Super cool.
Len and Gotye were both perfectly satisfied with only having "fifteen minutes of fame."
And I am comfortable with being well-known for absolutely nothing. To each his or her own. 🙏

Can't find me on a search engine
amen
wow 25 yrs ago thats crazy.. I was in Daytona Beach for spring break all we heard was Hi, my name is and this song
its just great and raw, the whole story is pricless, ty
I always loved this song, guilty pleasure factor or not.
Yea I don't think I can admit to liking this song to most of my "music friends." I say a good earworm pop song definitely has it's place.
@gravitywaves2796 I'll do it for the both of us. I played this during a first date with a goth girl. No fear.
Hoping for all of us it worked out with the goth girl, even if just for a little while. @drewbocop
Why?!? It's so so very bad
I used to own this album wish I still had it in my possession
i had a major crush on her in the 90's, 90's chicks were so hot, the pig tails, white tank tops, half shirts with the adidas pants. life will never ever be that good again
I love that song. My brother introduced it to me going to Myrtle Beach SC. I listen to it at least 10 Xs. on vacation. It reminds me of the beach. Sooo Coool !!!
You Can't Stop the Bum Rush is a masterpiece. Sharon was a masterpiece as well!💯👍😛❤️
I’ve always loved this song & knew it was “old” but didn’t realize, until the opening, it came out in August of 99. I lost my soulmate that exact month, followed by my dad 3 months later. My only child was born just 2 weeks before. This song has always hit my soul, tho silly and fun (& “annoying”)… and now I know why.
I went through basic training in the summer of 99. I had snuck in a tiny radio walkman so I was able to listen to music. Whenever I hear a song from that summer it reminds of what I was doing.
Haha that’s awesome!
I had a great experience recording some sessions with Marc in the mid-2000s, he's a really good songwriter of ear candy. The songs never saw the light of day, but I still enjoy listening to the demos we did. Hope he's doing ok.
I love this track ❤🎶✌️
I like that they were just having fun
I didn’t like it at first because my aunt played the original so much! She loved disco and “More more more” “Dim all the lights” and “Dance to Dance” would play constantly! But I did love the video! Now when I see the video it’s very nostalgic of my wonderful summer with her in Colorado!
You had it right at first. This song is so stupidly bad
I grew up with the original and adored it. I loved Len's song as well. They are different enough that you can love both.
I've been reading a novella series called The Daze that brilliantly captures that late 90s early 2000s vibe I get when I hear Steal My Sunshine
Recorded this off the radio on a cassette tape, played it before my high school football games , I played safety/DB so I was trying to get some interceptions and steal your sunshine
I'll always love this song.
Len and the New Radicals were the best party songs of my youth
I loved both, but they were 1 hit wonders.
Away from spotlight, the singer of the New Radicals produced a bunch of hits!
After the elevator incident, I wonder if they ever changed things up and sang Steal My Moonshine...?
The entire album is really good
I was 12 in 1999 I'm 37 now and this song is STILL my jam ☺️☺️
I never liked how touchy feely those two were with each other, bein brother and sister and all
When i was a 15 yr old in high school, I'd say they did their job, bc this song ANNOYED me... but over time it has grown on me and it is a very nostalgic 90s tune these days
Im 16 right now and I love this song! I first heard it from my dad in his truck, it is definitely one of my favorite songs.
I like this song because my mom would play it. I was little. I'm 28
I graduated high school in '99, it was def the song of the summer!!
Take me back.
I can relate. I to had trouble at the Canadian boarder. I was shouting Monty Python lines to French speaking boarder guards.
I loved that song when I was a kid. I was like yeah thats what I wanna do. I thought that video was the coolest . Haha just a big party
So much canadian reference and I love it didn't know the band Len was canadian and from pretty much right in my back yard
AppRently butter tarts is a Canadian reference too
Are you sure that’s his sister? It looks a lot like his sister-wife. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a sister and a brother cling onto each other and be that touchy feely. 😂
Definitely his sister
@toddp5122 - See Angelina Jolie & her brother.
Your brain has just been destroyed by watching too much adult material for too long. Sad.
They definitely look a bit cozy with each other.
It's their inner Italian
This song was in the ad that played before the video lol!
If you use Brave browser ,,youtube is ad free for free
From everything I’ve heard Sharon isn’t living in the UK but hiding in the UK. She had such massive social anxiety from the fame of steal my sunshine and just becoming famous in general that she couldn’t handle it and she’s tried to avoid everything about it as much as possible over the past 20+ years.
Yes she is very shy and lots of guys were creeping on her. No wonder she wanted to get away
Damn, Corey Trevor?!?
Seriously wtf? 😅 Had no idea!
