A million dollars a year is lot of money by today's standards but not fully appreciated that a million a year in late 80s to early 90s might be closer to two or three million today.

Meltzer was wrong as usual, as Savage's deal was for a whole lot more money. In 1997 he got a guaranteed $1,920,170 with a additional couple thousand for licensing and merchandise. Overall from 1996 until 2000 Savage made $6,102,133 and that for just 193 matches in all that time (compare that to 1987 were Savage worked a total of 249 matches for the WWF and probably made less than 10% of the WCW money)

I remember when the NBA and Magic signed a 9 million dollar deal it was shocking but now if a player was offered 9 they would go what per year , really some wouldnt even say a word other then go you not even close

Savage was notoriously frugal though, despite spending quite some money on ecstasy and cocaine. But from 1996 until 2000 he made over 6,1 million dollars in WCW. It's the reason why he was able to pitch in a offer to buy WCW
