Excellent tutorial. I can’t wait to go looking for some old books and create some lovely gifts. Thanks for your time in creating the tutorial to share with us all.
Thanlk you for clarifying at the end the difference between the two folding methods; A - folding to a specific place along the center and B - at as 90 drew angle. It was interesting to see the visual difference between the two.
What a wonderful so simply and easily understood tutorial. This has got to be the best and easiest explanation of bookj folding I have ever seen. So many thanks Maria.
Thank you for the tutorial and heart pattern. I was introduced to book folding, just yesterday, by my neighbor and have fallen in love with the art. I am working on a butterfly but will make your “heart” fold very soon. Thank you again.
Very good tutorial. Explained both methods and answered a question I have had for a while. Thank you for taking the time to put these lessons together. xx
Maria, thank you for your tutorials, they are terrific!. I have viewed all seven of them; they are so detailed, I am confident, that as a beginner, I am up for the task. I did download your free heart pattern and can't wait to give it a try.
+Lynne Faulkner Hi Lynne, Thank you so much for your lovely words. So pleased to hear that you found the videos so helpful. Let me know if there's anything else you want me to do a tutorial of and I'll see what I can do. That goes for everyone out there :)
Thank you for posting such a great tutorial. I'm dyslexic and find reading how to do book folding very difficult. your tutorial made so much sense. sarah PS loving the ruler xXx
Just finished this pattern; my first book folding project! I love how it turned out, thank you so much for these lessons! I can't wait to try more patterns. :)
+Stilettos And Boots Hi, Thank you so much for your feedback. So pleased that you enjoyed the project. Sounds like you're hooked :) Let me know if I can help in any way. Maria x
Love this!!! Such an amazing tutorial, nice and well paced... and you spoke so clearly. I am using this whole tutorial as part of a challenge on Instagram, so hopefully lots of people will enjoy this too!
Hi Maria, I've just watched this course and found it really helpful. It's the first time I've looked into how to book fold and thought you were very clear and easy to follow. You made it look simple enough for me to try it. Thanks for the free pattern too.
Thank you so much. I have been wanting to try this, but really had no idea how to go about it. Thanks to you I can now start working on my first book. :)
I made a heart using a line pattern and vowed I'd never do any book folding again, but after watching your tutorials, I'm ready to do it using your method! I especially like the 90-degree angle fold idea. Thank you!
hi I've just started to book fold and I just love it . many thanks for yr free heart pattern I have downloaded it and car'nt wait to start the fold. lovely tutorials step by step thank you again 😊
Excellent tutorials! I am about to begin my first book fold and just finished all 7 of your lessons - you have really sparked my excitement and I feel confident because of these lessons! Thank you so much - off to fold!!!
I love the book folding items I see for sale on etsy etc and always thought it would be far too difficult for me to do, but watching through your 7 tutorials I am inspired to try this myself. Looks easy enough for even me lol Thank you so much xx
+Annonymous P Thank you so much. Yes Book Folding is easy. I think people think it's difficult because the finished fold looks so amazing. It's like magic tricks, once you see how it's done the mystery is revealed. Maria x
Thank you! The set of tutorials was really helpful. So good to know right from choosing the right size book. Thank you for being so clear and easy to understand, assuming no prior knowledge of this art. I have watched all the lessons and now can't wait to find a book, download the pattern and get started! But maybe I should wait until morning as it's 2am and I'm watching in bed! 😁 Thanks again! 😘
Just thinking about my first attempt on book folding. Your 7 part series was very enlightening. I think I can trust myself to give it a go now. Thanks for the confidence! (~.~)
thank you so much for your tutorials - I am just starting out and have yet to do my first book but it will definitely be your basic heart. This is the clearest tutorial I have found so far on line so thanks again for sharing your knowledge, it is much appreciated x
Thank you so much for introducing me to the Love of Folding books!...I have a feeling I am going to enjoy this new to me craft! I feel that I too, would prefer the 90 degree fold as well.
Thank you for showing what to do if you couldn't get that 90 degree angle as I've just finished the word sister and came across a lot of folds like that, I got round it in a different way but seeing how you do it is a lot easier 😊 plus finding the page where to start your pattern from was great 👍🏻 I'm onto my second book fold now and I also have the heart pattern and cannot wait to do that one. It's so relaxing and I have always wanted to try it but I could only see the ones where you used a printed out lined pattern and it all seemed too complicated to me but after watching your videos I know feel that I can do different methods of book folding and I can always come back to your videos if I forget how to do something 😊 look forward to watching more and thanks again for taking the time to show us how to do this beautiful art. Yours are by far the easiest videos I've seen to learn from 😊
thank you for offering the 7 lessons. I feel I have a better understanding now what is involved. I practiced a little with just measuring because I know that is going to be key..being accurate with the measurements. I am looking forward to creating a new piece and more after that =)
Hi Maria i love your tutorials. I was wondering if you could do a tutorial with a combi cut and fold pattern please. I'm having some issues and can't figure out what i am doing wrong. Thank you
Great tutorial! I noticed your ruler has an added edge with screws attached. I think this helps with alignment. Can you please share where you bought your ruler? Or the name of it so I can search for it online? Thank you!
I completed this heart folded book. How can I make it open like yours does? Yours looks so thick and full and appears to be attached somehow to the extra pages or the cover. Also, on some of your designs, you show how to fold back the extra pages so they don’t show and then you glue on some decorative paper inside the cover.
the rule you use is interesting with the bar across one end to ensure the rule is square with an edge. Does it have a name and where can it be purchase please?
+1376jimbo Hi, The ruler is a 30cm acrylic craft ruler which I adapted by screwing on a plastic strip. The plastic strip is a plant label, the type you put in the soil. I did try gluing it initially but it kept coming off hence the screws. It is a great little tool now. If you can adapt one, or get someone to do it for you, it makes measuring so much quicker. Maria x
Thank you for this tutorial! I do have a question... I see that you fold from the same side of the book every time. Would there ever be a case where you would fold from the other side from the middle of the pattern to the end? (get half way, then start folding the pages "to the right"). Or does it not matter to the design?
+Dollarshowman Hi, apologies for not replying sooner, I have been away. Yes you can start from the middle and work outwards from there. I've always started at the front as I design the pattern as I go.
Thank You for such simplified explanation.... Would you please let me know whether it is possible to do this in a soft bound book..? What will be the difference in appearance? How much time it will take to complete full activity for a beginner?
+Ashish Majithiya Hi Ashish, Yes you can do the pattern with a soft bound book and its a great way to practice. It will look similar but may not stand up by itself as the cover probably won't be strong enough. It's difficult for me to say how long it will take a beginner as everyone is different and you will speed up as you work through the pattern too. An estimate would be 2-3 hours.
+Love Book Folding: Hi Miss Maria, I thank you very, very much for all your book folding courses. I really appreciate what you have done to teach us and the basic heart pattern as well. If you have any suggestion for book folding to create letters as the same way as basic heart pattern please, I would love to see it. Many, many thanks all the way from Myanmar(Burma) :)
Hello I am new to this craft and find your videos awesome and so clear and good. I just have one question: what is an 'innie' and what is an 'outie'? I have seen these 2 descriptions for folding alot on various links and I am baffled!
Thank you Maria for this set of lessons, they are very concise and easy to follow and I can't wait to get started. There is just one point that I need to ask about - in this last lesson you have described the methods of folding and also how to deal with a fold that cannot be achieved as a 90 degree one. I can follow the clear instructions but can see the angle of the fold does not match the rest of the folds, is this detrimental to the pattern?. Does this type of fold work with all patterns? I hope my questions are as easy to understand as your videos lol
Hi Barbara, Apologies for not replying sooner. Great question and yes, I understand, I hope :) As long as you're getting as tight to the mark as possible the fold you create will be hidden as it's more acute than 90 degrees. It shouldn't adversely affect the pattern. In my experience it works with all patterns. I hope that helps. Maria x
Thanks so much for these lessons. I hadn’t heard of book folding until 2hrs ago! I think I will quite enjoy this. Can I ask how long it took you? I understand all patterns will take different amounts of time, but how long for that particular one?
Hi, Maria. I've just watched all 7 stages of how to fold a book. It looks easy & I've nearly finished the heart that you so eloquently taught. Thanks. I think I'm going to be hooked. I've already downloaded a few patterns that I want to try, but I'm a little confused with one of the patterns, it says on the front (including 3cm margin top & bottom), what exactly does this mean? Does it mean that I should start measuring from 3cms from the top, so 5.6 would become 8.6? then where does the 3cms at the bottom come into it?? Thanks again. Angela x
Your lessons are great, thanks for posting them! I have a question about a pattern I have that says a minimum book height of 20 cm and the book I have is 23.5 cm - do I have to do anything to adjust for this? OR do I just measure each measurement from the top of the page? TY!
You can adjust it if you want but you don't have to. It'll just have a gap at the bottom. If you want it vertically centered then add 1.5 cm to each measurement.
Hi, thank you for these tutorials. I've tried in two different books but each time I'm trying to fold I seem to be ripping the page at the fold mark. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?
Hi Robert, thank you for your message. I used to do this quite a lot at the start and it does still occaisionally happen but I think it's something that improves with practice to a certain extent. Quality of paper does have its part to play for sure but rather than folding directly from the mark try rolling the sheet up to the mark then folding it. It takes a bit of practice to know when you're at the right point to start folding down, it will be different for different qualities of paper, but take it slowly at first and you'll soon find the right place. I hope that helps. Maria x
Love Book Folding hiya, sorry this is a joint account me and my husband use so I should have said I'm Alexandra lol. Thank you I'll try rolling the sheet up. I guess practice makes perfect :) x
Hi Maria. I'm about to do my first book fold, a simple heart. Can you tell me how to know where my top and bottom marks go in order to fold to get the rounded effect? I don't know what this method is called but it's not the 90 degree folding method. Hope that makes sense.
+TheMarilyn42 Hi Marilyn. Thank you for your message. This subject is covered in Lesson number 7 at about 6 minutes. Take a look and if you still need help let me know. Maria x
Hi Jackie, Thank you for your message. It depends on the pattern, how many spare pages you have and personal preference. Some patterns look better with unfolded pages at the front and back so it would be ok to leave them. If you have lots of spare pages then to remove them might make the book unstable so, if you don't want to leave them in, it might be better to choose another book with fewer pages. I hope that helps. Maria x
I can't say if it's easier since I have only done this method once because I am just a beginner. Our teacher thought it easier to find the center page that way this way, instead of trying to find the middle as most instructions show.. I did make the mistake in class of turning the book around by accident and had the bottom at the top. At the time I didn't know what I did wrong but now it's very obvious what I did. Any videos are so helpful and tips on folding as well., Book folding doesn't seem to have become popular in my area yet, so I'm excited. Especially fun to search for books at thrift shops with titles to go along with the design,
One of the great things about book folding is that it is very versatile. There are many methods and you can pick and choose which one you like best and create amazing results that certainly have that wow factor. x
When you work out your starting as in Lesson 5 this will give you the same amount of 'spare' pages at the front and the back. You can tear them out if there's not too many, fold them back or leave them unfolded.
Hi Paola, The ruler is a standard perspex craft ruler which I have attached a piece of plastic to on the end. It works very well but I now use an incra rule, expensive but fabulous. Maria x

Hi Maria i love your tutorials. I was wondering if you could do a tutorial with a combi cut and fold pattern please. I'm having some issues and can't figure out what i am doing wrong. Thank you
Great great tutorial(s)!!!
Very interesting and I'm liking the 90 degree fold. I think it looks cleaner.
Great tutorial x gona try soon x
Great tutorial! I noticed your ruler has an added edge with screws attached. I think this helps with alignment. Can you please share where you bought your ruler? Or the name of it so I can search for it online? Thank you!
Thank you! That made it very easy to understand! : )
Thank you for the in depth lesson! Now I’ll have. A crack at it
I completed this heart folded book.
+1376jimbo
Hi,
The ruler is a 30cm acrylic craft ruler which I adapted by screwing on a plastic strip. The plastic strip is a plant label, the type you put in the soil. I did try gluing it initially but it kept coming off hence the screws. It is a great little tool now. If you can adapt one, or get someone to do it for you, it makes measuring so much quicker.
Maria x
Looking at your tutorial I cant wait to start , 1 wee problem my computer wont allow me to download pds how would I get round that
Hi...Loved this. Itching to give it a try. Just one thing I don't understand. What is the 1,3,5.9 referring to?
+Ashish Majithiya
Hi Ashish,
Yes you can do the pattern with a soft bound book and its a great way to practice.
How does the right angle method look when it is a word you are folding? It looks great for the heart shape.
I much prefer the right angle method these days and I think it looks good with all patterns. x
Brilliant tutorial,it all came together on lesson 7 though the volume seemed lower on this lesson. I'll be searching charity shops for books now !!!
Thanks June and apologies for the volume on the last one, not sure what happened. x
Your recording volume in this lesson is substantially less that the previous lessons. Made it difficult to hear all you were saying.
Angela x
Hi Angela, The 'margin' is the area at the top and bottom which is not fold. You don't need to make any adjustments. Maria x
Ditto ! Many thanks for demystification

Hi maria. I've got a question. Have you also got free ones??
Thank You so much!!!!!
Thank you so much for video! Do you have alphabetical patterns?

Hi Carmel, I'm not sure what method you mean. Can you send me a pic lovebookfolding@gmail.com? Maria x
Pics received thank you and reply sent :-) Maria x
Can you tell me if the fold is larger than the width of the book how do you get the 90 degree fold???
+TheMarilyn42 Hi Marilyn. Thank you for your message. This subject is covered in Lesson number 7 at about 6 minutes. Take a look and if you still need help let me know. Maria x
Do you tear out the extra pages before you start folding as well as the last pages after you complete folding? Or do you leave them in?
Hi Jackie,
Thank you for your message. Hello
Would it be possible to have the PDF format of the form
Please
Thank you
Thanks. Very helptful. I took a class where we learned to start in the middle. Do you ever do it that way?
I've never started in the middle. I should try it sometime. Do you find it's a better method?
There are many methods and you can pick and choose which one you like best and create amazing results that certainly have that wow factor. x
Also when I started in the middle, it was awkward after finishing the middle to the end to then go back to the middle and go towards the front.
I did wonder if that caused a problem.
wauw this is super thank you
Hi maria....I can't figure out how the points on the top and bottom edge of the page are marked!!Can you please explain it in detail??
You can measure them with a ruler from the outside edge of the page and mark with a pencil. I hope that helps.
I'm stuck how do I no which is a cut on my pattern of has just numbers and page number it doesn't state which measurement is to cut or fold 😕
I no this pattern has no cuts I'm just asking in General x
donde se puede conseguir el patrón

do you cut the excess off???
+TheMarilyn42 See below x
what if I have a thicker book than the tutorial suggests??
When you work out your starting as in Lesson 5 this will give you the same amount of 'spare' pages at the front and the back. You can tear them out if there's not too many, fold them back or leave them unfolded.
thank you so much!!
where can I buy that ruler?
Hi Paola, The ruler is a standard perspex craft ruler which I have attached a piece of plastic to on the end. It works very well but I now use an incra rule, expensive but fabulous. Maria x
thanks
