I have this pattern and it's been hard trying to decide what fabric to use. Linen has been popular but I wanted something a little warmer for the fall/winter. Thank you for showing two options that are perfect for the Fall! Love your channel!
Hi Mel, stunning jackets and I think they are both great in their own right 💝. It's always great to see the same pattern in two different fabrics 👌. I imagine that it's a great pattern for beginners if the right fabric was used....and if they don't sew after a night out 😉. Really enjoyed this video Mel and thanks again for sharing your lovely makes 😁😘
Oh Mel! I saw this on your Instagram but it’s even nicer on video!! Both jackets are just beautiful. You are inspiring me again!! Do you think a beginner could sew this pattern? I left you a comment on IG telling you that I took your advice and made the York pinafore. You were so right... it’s the first dress I’ve ever sewn for myself and I feel so good in it... after quite a few years of struggling to find anything that suited me. Hoping it’s not beginner’s luck 😜. Thank you so much for your videos. You are a true inspiration!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thankyou :) Yes absolutely great for beginner, its mainly straight lines to sew and the instructions are great too, definitely give it a go. I know we have chatted about your York dress, its so lovely xx
Love both your Wikstens Mel! I bought this pattern (printed version) but haven't gotten around to making it up. I bought a few kimono style jacket patterns (the Nenuphar by Deer & Doe is one I did make up and I will definitely be making more of them!) The Wiksten fell off my radar but I keep thinking about it! When I got the notification of your video on the Wiksten I was excited to see what you did with it - they are both gorgeous but that pink by Telio was divine. I have all sorts of fabrics that I think would suit this pattern - like you say it's very versatile and can be adjusted to work with all seasons depending on the fabric you use. You don't really have to line it either - you could just hong kong seam the seams :)
Thankyou :) You know I thought I'd done a video for my fave pinafores but I've just checked and your absolutely right, I must have forgotten this! Its on my video list this weekend
Oh beautiful coats, this is now very tempting.... with the wool one - how did you change the instructions to provide it with a proper hem? Thanks again for all your wonderful blogs.
Thankyou Robyn :) I didn't change it much, I just sewed as per instructions (uo to the point before you add the collar) then turned up the hem, I then shortened the collar piece by the amount that I had turned it up by so that when I attached the collar it would be the same length as the coat, hope that helps!
I love that pattern, it looks like the perfect jacket for fall/winter. What led you to this pattern? I've seen a few sew over it kimonos but they seem very summery, I love pockets too of course!
Thanks Mel. Sorry for stalking you... 😂 sometimes I miss IG notifications so I wanted to make sure you knew how good your advice was 😆 I may give the kimono a go-go 😜
Did you interface the collar as the pattern suggests? I’ve talked to someone who said she preferred not to interface it because she wanted as much drape as possible.
Ruth Lanwarne thanks Ruth, you know I have no idea what the place is called where I got it from 😳 I was on a Sewing meet up so out of the area, I’ll check with some of the others to see if they can remember xx
I am a bit late seeing this but I’m sure glad I did! I LOVE THIS KIMONO (and the pink tweed is still available so I will be buying soon)! I notice the pattern has 3 length options. Which did you use for the pink version?? I hope it’s not to late to get a response😩
Hi thanks so much for tuning in ☺️💕 I made the long version here, I have since made a medium version in velvet that I will be sharing in a video soon, it’s on my Instagram page if you wanted to see what it looks like medium length
Your pink coat is SO CUTE! I love it! Thanks for sharing!

Very nice. I can't wait to see your reversible jacket. Please film some of the construction, I'd love to see how that is done.

I just ordered the pink tweed. Love it.
Love the plaid one

Thanks Emma, I just love the simplicity of that shape and the dropped shoulders! :)

Did you interface the collar as the pattern suggests? I’ve talked to someone who said she preferred not to interface it because she wanted as much drape as possible.
Hi Linda, yes I interfaced mine but if you did want it to be softer you could leave it off ☺️💖
Handmade By Ditsy-Tulip so I decided to just interface the “under collar” and I now have the look and feel that I was wanting.
Lovely jackets. You didn’t say where you bought your plaid fabric? 100 per cent wool is hard to find.
Ruth Lanwarne thanks Ruth, you know I have no idea what the place is called where I got it from 😳 I was on a Sewing meet up so out of the area, I’ll check with some of the others to see if they can remember xx
@HandmadeByDitsyTulip just for your info if you use it in future. I know that the spelling is plaid but the pronunciation is pladd.
Gorgeous jackets-Is the one a boucle`??
Thankyou and yes, it’s my most worn garment so looking a little tatty now but I will continue to wear it ☺️💖
I just found the winsten pattern yesterday and haven't gotten it. Can a closure besides a tie be added?
Lovely 😊 can I ask what the sizing is like please?
Thanks Kim, I found the sizing just right, I made no adjustments at all, I think because its oversized it should be easy to fit :)
Hello! I know this is a late comment but how did you wash the tweed fabric prior to sewing? Dry cleaning? Thanks
Hi ☺️ I have a garment steamer so steamed it rather than washing
@@HandmadeByDitsyTulip great! thank you for responding 😀
