it's really cool to see someone sewing their own clothes in a time when fast fashion is really popular. i'm thinking about learning to sew my own clothes. so, beginner tips about using patterns would be helpful. you could even show the process of making a piece, from searching for a pattern you like through cutting and sewing it.
I really like the extra bit of style you got from your elastic decisions. Both the divided elastic channels and the small “ruffle” above one channel are so cute.
Good job on all your clothing makes. I have sewed clothes for myself and my kids for more than 50 years. I love to see young folks sewing and loving it.
Very informative video, wondering if you have made a video of how to add pockets to your dresses/tops. I LOVE pockets and would like to know how to incorporate them. Thanks!
I like the fact that you use fabric that's easily available in any local market and also these clothes are oversized. I just love such loose, street style clothing!
I admire your persistence to work through the mistakes and still turned out some very nice results! Everything turned out so well. I love everything! And yes, i love all the linen!
Hi Em, I know you think the Everyday dress is a bit big, but I think it looks great on you. Hell, your whole wardrobe looks amazing on you. What I LOVE about this video that is now a year old is how it shows your progression and what you learned as you moved from project to project. Like you, I returned to sewing during the Pandemic. Its nice to know I wasn't the only one sewing like a mad woman. Hahaha. :) Cheers! So glad I found your channel.
You probably know this now since I know it’s been awhile, and this may have been said 😅 but the reason why your white dress is gaping at the neckline is because you didn’t cut the bias tape on the bias. A great way to save fabric is to piece the bias together from multiple smaller pieces :) love your channel!! And you’re wardrobe. 😍
Bravo .... don’t get me wrong but very impressed with your choice of colors and fabric selection very classic most young girls use florals and pastels your collection is very Ellen fisher looking Very impressed... great job
I made a pattern out of newsprint from the market. I gave three dress patterns one shirt pants short and skirt all for maternity and post partum. I created lots of things on the fold. Glad to see others did the same.
I sewed most of my clothes in my youth. And trying to get started again. Mostly accumulating fabric and patterns. Your white sleeveless top gave me the idea to start with something simple.
When I was 12 years old, our public schools had basic sewing and cooking class. I am happy to see how you are sharing how to get started sewing . Your work is beautiful. There is not one item you have shown that I would not be very happy and proud to wear!
Love all linen makes!!! I have loved every linen garment I’ve done and after watching this video I’m realizing how happy I worked be if I write linen exclusively!
I use a lot of linen from the Fabric Store as a new sewist so it was nice to see someone else using their fabric. I hope you know you look great in all your clothes.Good job!!!!
Thank you Emily for sharing your beautiful linen wardrobe. I love it! I am a Senior that likes to keep active…I’ve done quilting for a few years but now am working on a linen pant. Its my first piece getting back into sewing. ❤
Thanks for sharing!! So many similar videos include wild patterns and colors which is nice for some pieces but I personally like more calm and neutral colors...you have to have at least a couple or else nothing will match haha so thanks for sharing your ideas and what you've tried!! Love these!!
So impressive! The amount of started - and completed - projects is terrific. You seem to have a Japanese influenced aesthetic that you've adhered to in a disciplined way, which is hard to do in the candyshop that is the fabric-pattern universe. The payoff is a coherent wardrobe in terms of color palette and style. Now that you've got your covered, cozy pieces, I wonder if you as a beautiful young woman would enjoy the look of the same garment patterns treated as a translucent outer layer. In other words, could you envision some of the loose shirts and dresses made in sheer handkerchief linen or silk organza, with a coordinating opaque slip dress or camisole underneath? Black-on-black, ecru-on-ecru, blush-on-blush, pewter-on-pewter. Oh that aqua blue shade of the robe really suited. Anyway, a layered look could add more interest to the same color, and a bit of lightness and drape and arm silhouette, without giving up on the Asian influence. Just an idea. Well done. I'll be back for inspiration again some day. BTW, the handmade shoe reminded me you might like to check out a wonderful Australian blogger who executes beautiful projects from felting, knitting and dyeing to shoes, sewn underwear, clothing. Handmadebycarolyn's blog handmadebycarolyn.com.au/. She's modest, talented, and although she's busy making baby stuff for her new grandchildren now, she makes a lot of cool pieces for herself.
I am in awe by how fabulous your linen wardrobe is!! I love linens too but I use thrifted linen curtains, tableclothes, garments, duvet covers, and even linen scraps to make my garments.
Love all the linen. Very simple comfortable clothing. Love them all! Very impressive sweater. I'm learning how to knit now. Love it. Love the oatmeal, green, gray & blue linen outfits. Thank you.
You have all three right to be proud on you!!! So many beautiful !!!! It’s really hard for me saying which I like the most. Maybe the wintery jacket…., but there are so many other things I love, especially on you. Ah yes, the overall or romper or…. I don’t know the English word. I watched your tutorial so often, but as a not a native English speaker…, well I have not tried it up to now. I know this video is very old and of course I also watched a lot of your newer videos but it was really interested to see how you started. Unfortunately in my country you have only a few fabric stores. So you must by them online. And I find without touching the fabric and you are still a beginner it’s so hard to decide if a fabric will fit to that project😡. Be proud of you! That’s all I have to say! Love watching your tutorials💕
I really loved your video - your wardrobe is amazing, especially the way you have a distinct style and how everything goes together. Love love love the linen. More of these videos please!
Good job! The cardigan you knitted is beautiful. I've only ever made scarves! I'm intimidated by knitting patterns! The reason your notched color is puckered is because you have to trim that seam almost down to nothing or trim and clip down to sewing line in multiple places.
If you don't like using dpns... you can use 2 sets of circulars together or magic loop. Personally I like using the 2 sets of circulars. Great job inn your knits!
Thank you for all these resources. Free patterns and sustainable fabrics? Yes! Thank you for the in-depth explanations of what worked or didn't and why. :) I really like all of your items. Especially your tops, your wrap dress, the everyday dress and the first the jacket.
Hahah I know, it felt like a goldmine when I first came across them! The patterns are really good too, and perfect for practicing different techniques.
Great capsule wardrobe. A way to deal with the slightly gaping front of the off white wrap dress is to sew in a small snap to keep it from opening too much. ❤️🧵🪡
Love ❤️ some linen! Option for the grey wool coatigan... I visualize a small opening at each side and thread a belt through that will only cinch the front. Beautiful work. 😊
Hi Emily, I just got sent this video by UA-cam suggestions. I love when they pick things I may enjoy! I am new to linen. You asked for video suggestions and I looked a bit on your videos. I would enjoy a video just on the fabrics you use and where you get them, your thoughts on them, care of them like wash first and care after you have made things and any other ideas you have about them. I would love to start using some. Thanks 😀
You have made some lovely clothes.Have you tried the continuous bias binding method to make bias binding, you can make two metres of bias. binding out of a 10" piece of fabric. It is easy to do and you can use fat quarters to make the bias binding
Beautiful makes and knits, I don’t think anyone would notice the puckers until you pointed them out 🤗. Your clothes all look wonderful on you ! Bridget R
The white wrap dress, the gaping is because you didn't cut the binding on the bias, hence making the neckline heavy/stiff. If the binding stretches when when sewing you will get a better fit. Technically you won't use more fabric. I always alternat the longest strips with the shortest to balance it out.
Just found your channel and enjoyed the linen wardrobe. My fabric of choice! The wool jacket/coat could easily be steam pressed on the front lapels to lay back. You've done an amazing job and I enjoyed seeing all of them modeled. Will be watching more for sure! Great job!
Great video! I'm a long-time knitter but newish sewer who loves linen- all your garments and pattern recommendations are really great. I would love love love to see some "sew-along" type videos walking through the process of some popular linen patterns, as a newer sewer I have found these incredibly helpful. Thanks so much!
This is a wonderful wardrobe! You did such a great job. I love that you discuss the learning process for a lot of the items. There are very few hard and fast rules in sewing. One is that all skirts need pockets! All skirts. It's helpful to anchor them to the waistband so that they're not pulling your skirt down in weird ways that make you look off balance.
I am so impressed ;you are a natural in front of a camera. I look forward to your next video! Fabric store .com should gift you fabric as you are an awesome representative for them. Wonderful video!
I have the same problem with printing patterns but I just calculate the proportion of what the square is to what it should be and use that percentage to find the right size (calculate the measurements given to what I want and find the size with the same proportion as the measuring square). Hope that made sense 😅
So happy I found your channel, too few Canadian sewists out there! I understand why you felt you made a lot of mistakes, but I really think the things that bother you about some of your makes are so easily fixable, and even the most experienced sewists have to use their unpicker at least once during a project. The neckband that bothers you can still be rolled in and hand tacked down. Your Wiksten coatigan issue can also easily be solved by just hand tacking your collar from the bottom part way up. That will improve the rolling you don't like. Or you could improvise a clapper and use a lot of steam or even bang at it with a rubber mallet all along the seam to get the area where it rolls to lie flatter and be more crisp. Those techniques are used in tailoring all the time to get things to behave the way you want. Looking forward to seeing more of what you're up to!
Thank you so much for your tips!! I was thinking about tacking down the collar on the wiksten coat but I wasn't sure if it would look weird where it isn't sewn down. Banging it with a mallet sounds like fun hahaha!
Hi Emily, I enjoyed watching you show us your handmade wardrobe. You are talented and have an eye for style and color! Lucy at Sew Essentials has a sewing tip for necklines on wrap dresses that really help the gapping. She uses a clear elastic an gently stretches just enough to subtly pull up the gap. It works like a charm. You can do it after the fact so maybe try that on your beautiful wrap linen dress.
Kudos to you, Emily! I used to sew along time ago and have decided to pick it up again. It's almost like riding a bike. Your videos are refreshing me! Thank you.
Sewing is my world. i am always thinking about fabric and patterns (hope my hubby doesnt read this haha) Your channel gives me additional inspirations and i think you have great taste too
Ah me too! My sewing wish list is so long, haha. Thankfully the time investment it takes means I'm a lot more conscious and intentional about what I make than I would be otherwise. Thank you so much!
I really enjoyed watching your video. I'm a big fan of fabricsstore as well. Thanks for the reminder of the free patterns on their website. Its nice to see them on a real person. I'm loving your style right now. Thanks again! If you're not on patternreview you should be!!
This is a beautiful video showcasing your mostly gorgeous linen fabric handmade garments. Love it all, including your knitted cardi! Hello from South Australia🧡
Beautiful colors. You wear them all so well. Good job on all your pieces! So inspiring. I do not sew and it is a hundred bucks or more for hand made linen items.
Beautiful work!!! They all look so great on you!! I love your color, fabric and yarn choices! The shoes and hat are amazing too! All you need is a touch of jewelry and a handbag that plays off all your wonderful colors and fabrics. :D
I am in awe of your wardrobe! You have made so much! And that cardigan?! I am trying to get back into knitting after 40 years of not knitting and I am intimidated. Linen is the most beautiful and natural fiber ever. In another era they used it year round. Now we only consider it a summer fabric. I need to check out those Canadian fabric suppliers that you mentioned. I will also have to binge on your other videos! Thank you.
Mood fabrics in NY try this . I’m very impressed about your work . I do sewing as a business but I dress houses ! So I love sewing and when I want to have fun I sew clothes for my self.
Amazing video. I love all the lined garments. I am a beginner sexist and love to learn techniques. For now, I have downloaded a dress pattern and ordered fabric
this video has made me want to go buy a big heap of linen and finally make some things with my sewing machine. All I've done so far is make masks and take in all of my big ugly scrubs!
I couldn't figure out how this wardrobe demo got ANY thumbs down. At ~24:30 Emily mentions BLM in a positive way. As a 68yo white woman my attention went from the dress review to the passing comment - which I endorse. I really enjoy Emily's vibe and handmade wardrobe.
I love every piece you showed. I’ve looked at some of the websites and I’m excited to get some patterns. I love linen as well. Thanks so much for sharing💖💖💖

Yes, these are both on my list of videos to make! Thanks for the ideas!
Fast fashion clothing is hand made clothing. Someone hand makes it, they're just not white so nobody cares.
I am here for all the linen!! 🙌 Your handmade wardrobe is very inspiring. Everything looks great! Please make more sewing content!! 🙏
Thank you! Will do!

I adore your whole wardrobe

Your* wardrobe 🙃
Thankyou for using all natural linen and Icelandic wool! The less synthetic in the world the better.
Couldn't agree more :)
Bravo .... don’t get me wrong but very impressed with your choice of colors and fabric selection very classic most young girls use florals and pastels your collection is very Ellen fisher looking Very impressed... great job
I love Eileen Fisher pieces haha, so that makes a lot of sense! Thank you :)
To see this kind of video maybe end of year would be nice. What you sew through 2022.
You can still flip the binding on the dark green heavyweight linen Hemlock tee and sew it down probably. Great work 💪 very inspirational.
I made a pattern out of newsprint from the market. I gave three dress patterns one shirt pants short and skirt all for maternity and post partum. I created lots of things on the fold.
Glad to see others did the same.

Thank you for sharing the garments you make. That inspired me a lot. I would love to see sewing tips and tutorials!
I'm so happy you were inspired! I am working on a new sewing video now, so there are definitely lots more on the way :)
I really loved your video - your wardrobe is amazing, especially the way you have a distinct style and how everything goes together. Love love love the linen. More of these videos please!

I really like all of your items. Especially your tops, your wrap dress, the everyday dress and the first the jacket.
Yay, glad you found it helpful! I felt like I talked on for soo long haha but I had lots to say for each piece!
Loving this. I'm a total newbie and greatly appreciate the Canadian links.
So glad I found this video, love your garments! Never knew about fabric store free patterns - that’s me busy for a while x
I see you love linen. Even Though you are not happy with some of them they look fine to me
Yes, definitely a linen fan. I'll still wear them, my little mistakes are all part of the learning process :)
I think all the pieces suit your body type very well. Relaxed fit and natural fabric is gorgeous.
Yes, I'm all about the comfy and flowy pieces these days! Thank you :)
Love ❤️ some linen!
Option for the grey wool coatigan... I visualize a small opening at each side and thread a belt through that will only cinch the front.

A fabric video is a great idea, thanks so much! ❤️
JUst found you...Love love love your linen ..my fave .. great job.
You have been so productive. I love your choices and use of linen.
Thank you so much!
so aspirational!!! a gorgeous minimal wardrobe!
Thank you!

Like your simple style. I need to sew more.
Love this! I was searching for some Eileen Fisher style patterns. Your makes are perfect. Thank you!
You're very welcome!
Thank you for showing all your makes and talking about the process.I had fun listening to you while finishing an order.
I am so excited I am starting to make mine I order linen toonI LOVE LINEN
The blouse at min. 25:16 would look and drape fantastic in A soft handkerchief linen or a cotton lawn.
Love your clothes and fabric choices. I would like to see fabric hauls
I'm so inspired by the choices you've made... the simplicity of the patterns really spoke to me in linen. And, what a lovely Sweater you've knitted!
Love them all. And now I'll work more with linen
Linen is my fave! Clearly, haha.
I think these look fabulous on you.
I love simple styles and natural fabrics. Thanks for the patterns.
Thank you so much!
Loved it, this is actually the capsule wardrobe that I need to make. All pieces are just perfect. Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful makes and knits, I don’t think anyone would notice the puckers until you pointed them out 🤗. Your clothes all look wonderful on you ! Bridget R
Thank you so much!
What a classy, classic wardrobe. You should be so proud. Thank you for showing us.
The white wrap dress, the gaping is because you didn't cut the binding on the bias, hence making the neckline heavy/stiff. If the binding stretches when when sewing you will get a better fit. Technically you won't use more fabric. I always alternat the longest strips with the shortest to balance it out.
I love your aesthetic! So classic
Very nice makes!! You have inspired me to some linen from my fabric stash. Great knitting as well Kudos to you!!
Yay, thank you!

Amé todo lo que hiciste . Me gusta el estilo y los colores. Aprenderé a coser. Gracias por inspirarme.
❤️❤️
Thank you for the tip, I think that would be the perfect fix!
Kudos to you, Emily! I used to sew along time ago and have decided to pick it up again. It's almost like riding a bike. Your videos are refreshing me! Thank you.
I'm envious of your sewing skills.
Aww, that's nice of you to say! It takes practice, but anyone can do it :)
Thanks so much! Their free patterns are what got me back into sewing a few years ago. Such a great resource!
Your wardrobe is my favorite. Thanks for sharing
OH - also, I hope you'll do a video on youre spring sewing plans for 2022
Definitely planning to!
This is a beautiful video showcasing your mostly gorgeous linen fabric handmade garments. Love it all, including your knitted cardi!
Hello from South Australia🧡
Thank you so much!
Beautiful colors. You wear them all so well. Good job on all your pieces! So inspiring. I do not sew and it is a hundred bucks or more for hand made linen items.
Thank you so much! Yes, linen is definitely expensive. Much more economical if you can make it yourself, and these patterns are so simple and easy!
Everything you made looks super comfy! You should be so proud
Beautiful work!!! They all look so great on you!! I love your color, fabric and yarn choices! The shoes and hat are amazing too! All you need is a touch of jewelry and a handbag that plays off all your wonderful colors and fabrics. :D
Thank you so much!
Thank you.

Can't wait to saw my own wardrobe
I love ll of them! you are talented! I dont think I woulde have the patience to do all that!
Thank you! It does take patience, but the process is fun and the result is so rewarding :)
Just getting into this so I appreciate the transparency and authenticity. Hella helpful. You're also really beautiful so.
Thanks for sharing. You and your handmade clothes are beautiful.
Mood fabrics in NY try this . I’m very impressed about your work . I do sewing as a business but I dress houses ! So I love sewing and when I want to have fun I sew clothes for my self.
Amazing video. I love all the lined garments. I am a beginner sexist and love to learn techniques. For now, I have downloaded a dress pattern and ordered fabric
the tshirt dress you made out of the pink linen is so so beautiful
this video has made me want to go buy a big heap of linen and finally make some things with my sewing machine. All I've done so far is make masks and take in all of my big ugly scrubs!
Yay linen is the best! So great to work with and the results are always beautiful. Happy sewing :)

I love your style so much! this video has inspired me to make my own cloths. Thank you!!!
I'm so glad! :)
To pull in the neckline, just thread thin elastic into seam and pull it in..... not too much. Works like a charm!
I'll have to try this, thanks!
It'simple but nice. Thanks dear.
I love every piece you showed. I’ve looked at some of the websites and I’m excited to get some patterns. I love linen as well. Thanks so much for sharing💖💖💖
I think all your projects turned out great.
Thank you!
