    Hello would the Mares S Prom be suitable for a 5" 85 pound 13 year old wanting to start their scuba adventure? If not where would be a good place to buy the Scuba ranger I haven't been able to find it.

      Hello @ArsenalArsonists, I am not familiar with the Mares S Prom, however, we sell the Mares Scuba Ranger here at our shop.

    Hey Brian, I have a request for you. I see a lot of divers (especially beginners) using their BC'S to completely control their buoyancy. I think a video on how to control your buoyancy with breathing would really benefit some of them so they aren't so dependent on their BC's and wondering where their air has gone.

      That is a great idea. We did a similar video in the past talking about using your lungs as a way to fine tune your buoyancy. ua-cam.com/video/r0MPhC7nuBA/v-deo.html

    How does the Mares BP/wings compare to an oxycheq in terms of the roll and stability in the water? My fiance isn't a fan of my oxycheq however I love it, but would Mares be anymore stable? And do you notice their style of backplate poking you at all? Very cool shape I just worry it would feel awkward?

      It’s has been my experience that any back plate and wing system is stable as long as it is adjusted properly. The single wings from Mares are more slender than most, thus keeping the lift centered along the Y-axis of the diver. As far as it poking me, the contour of the plate is the same as all the others, so no poking at all. I go one step further and I use a comfort pad on mine. Here is a link showing what mine looks like. ua-cam.com/video/2bGKHGcb_oA/v-deo.html

    Looks like the Blue Battle and Silver Night have two pull dumps at the bottom, or can you just change it from the left or right side?

    • @LakeHickoryScuba
      @LakeHickoryScuba  5 років тому

      One is a pressure relief and the other is a pull dump. They can be swapped based off which side the diver choices to have his or her pull dump on.

    Hello , I recently finished my open water course, I am looking for my BCD, I like the mares Dragon SLS because it seems to be very confortable and durable.However, I see right now exist the new wings and I am not sure what should I buy. I dive probably 10-15 times a year.

    • @LakeHickoryScuba

      The Dragon will make a great BCD for you. Very comfortable and will suit your needs.

      Yea going on what lake hickory dive said you only dive 15 times a year so getting a jacket would be good don’t get wings unless you dive often or travel a lot get a dragon heard they were really good or a scubapro xblack bit more expensive but very comfortable

    Im not sure which id prefer more or which is better. pure or bolt? what are the main difference. can you fit a twin on the pure just as on the bolt? (i guess i wont be diving twins too soon im looking for a wing/donut jacket that has weights integrated and a free bladder. i dont really like how traditional jackets feel underwater and dont like the loose and wobbly feel of the tank on the back. will the weight belt style of the pure be better in that case than the bolt?)

      Hello Simon, both models are great BCD's. The biggest difference is the lower section. The Pure has a tradition belt system for the waist strap, to where the Bolt has a cummerbund and pinch buckle. Both models can accommodate doubles, even though a back plate and wing is better suited. Here is a video showing you how to use the Pure or Bolt with a set of doubles. ua-cam.com/video/J9V60MAdRlI/v-deo.html

      @@LakeHickoryScuba ok thank you very much :) in the video you linked where those 2x 12L or what size were the tanks? Are the tanks still stable if theyre separate twins and not manifold? Often on vacation dive centers dont have fixed twin sets thats why im asking

    • @LakeHickoryScuba
      @LakeHickoryScuba  4 роки тому

      Hello Simon, the cylinders we used were Aluminum 80's (12 liters), and they were manifolded. Having manifolded definitely helps to hold them more stable. And you would be correct, most dive centers do not have doubles for rent.

    Do you think the best Mares back inflate system is Bolt?

    • @LakeHickoryScuba
      @LakeHickoryScuba  5 років тому +1

      The Bolt, The Pure, The Magellan, and the XR System are all great back inflate systems.

    I'm interested in getting my son a new BCD nothing fancy basic it's just fine with us and nothing too pricey what would you recommend we probably do three to five dives a year just local here in North Carolina

      The Prime is a great budget model. Very well built, and not to pricey. Full retail is $380. If he would rather have a back inflate system, then I would go with the Pure or the Bolt. Retail on them are $460 and $450. What size does he need, I have several of each left in stock.

      @@LakeHickoryScuba he's still growing but he's about six feet tall and slender but he will fill out.

      The medium tends to tighten down to a small and will let out to a large on both the Pure and the Bolt. If he was to go with the Pure or Bolt, I would do the medium. At his height, I would probably do a large if he went with the Prime. With the added material that comes on the Prime, I would be afraid the medium would be to small as he grows. Idealy it is best for him to try them on first, but sometimes that is not always possible. I am 5'7, 195lbs and I wear a medium.
