The major problem of the DT story is that it ignores the rules set by Yoshida when it comes to a living world. You just cannot write the end of the world as we know it then snap back into happy go lucky adventuring. There's some fallout and consequences to be had even if they are minor. That's the first issue present and the second issue is Wuk Lamat herself being a black hole sue where both the lore and plot bend to her uncanny level. Case in point we can use the introduction of Heavensward as a good litmus test where the WoL at the start isnt involved in things until midway through the plot of 3.0. Where DT the WoL is wrapped in "oh look hijinks" then its completely forgotten that the character is a Omega level defender near the end where the writing team went "oh right, the WoL is super strong....gotta throw him a bone" only for Wuk to be a spotlight stealer on the last fight. Characters that inhabit the "sue" archetype are poorly written and only serve to be the writer's favorite within the story at the detriment of past character development and future development of other characters. Its often the biggest achilleas heel of Shonen protagonists since the story directly revolves around them and the main cast. An MMO has a harder time stomaching a Shonen non-PC character at its core. Give Wuk to Ishkawa and we'd probably have a endearing head of state, that everyone would have love and be rather hard to criticize. In any other hands Wuk is the poster child of everything wrong with the 7.0 story for worst.
