- Let's watch the new Evangelion movie along with Rocco, Garrett, Johnny, and... wait, Shawn too?? Pop up a copy of Evangelion 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon A Time and play it alongside our video as we do a full commentary with an unexpectedly emotional wrapup at the end!
To sync it up- maybe kinda ignore our countdown and wait for us to mention the Eiffel tower shot (and we give the timecode that we're at too). - Комедії
The ending to this is so meta and is something only Eva and mega64 crossover can experience bro I am going to admit I cried a bit
I fell asleep when Garret was talking about how real the asses look and woke up with Rocco and Shawn hugging.
this has a very "the friends we made along the way" vibe to it lol
This has got to be one of my favorite Mega64 streams, and Shawn's story about Eva and his review, along with Rocco's follow up might be my favorite Mega64 moment of all time lol
This stream is like the finale of a series that started with "Shawn RAGE" and is honestly more emotionally fulfilling than Evangelion could ever hope to be
It's weird. After that hug Shawn no longer feels a need to watch The Padres and Rocco hasn't pre ordered a signal figure since.
The last 45 minutes of the movie or so Johnny looked like he was on the verge of tears.... I feel you Johnny... I feel you....
This is strangely cathartic.
i think that's exactly the word shawn was searching for
The fact everything has come full circle with shawn and rocco's in relation to Eva, is frankly beautiful and was really emotional.
I hope this makes Shawn alittle more open to other anime in the future!
attack on titan is all he needs to see
Evangelion 3.0 + 1.0 : Thrice upon Mega64 recovering a friendship
Considering that Mega64 introduced me to Eva way back when I was at high school, this couldn’t be a more fitting way to wave goodbye to the franchise.
witnessed history tonight
shawn live on air saying he liked an eva movie
It's beautiful how in the process of reflecting, maturing, redeeming, etc. that Evangelion goes through with the rebuilds, it mirrors how we as people also have that capability (as seen here with Rocco and Shawn!), specially when you let things breathe and return to them years later with the power of hindsight. When Anno made EoE he didn't have time to reflect, he just acted on impulse and gave the fans a response that he felt appropiate at the time. Shinji was his self-insert. Now with Thrice Upon A Time, after working through these feelings for all these years, he can display them in a much more thoughtful, mature way. Gendo's the one going through all the mental stuff this time around because at this point in Anno's life, that adult POV is what he relates to the most. Growing up takes time and all the waiting has paid off. It couldn't be any other way.
Having only relatively recently become a Mega64 fan but catching up on all the lore, this was weirdly cathartic and emotional at the end.
Life imitates art
This feels like such a grand conclusion to such a long arc
Watching this live with the boys and the chat was surprisingly emotional. I was ready for a barrel of laughs but we go a lot more.
Remember the golden rule. If you don’t like Evangelion, then you weren’t paying attention and didn’t get it. And be sure to give a smug smile when you say it to others.
2:54:14 - This right here, is one of my favorite moments ever.
I saw this live and I felt it. Rocco making (and Garrett too) amens is so beautiful
CONGRATULATIONS
This is better than the anime we just watched, talk to your friends y'all.
“I’m sorry…Shawn.”
@@jeffersonyu1368 what is the context of this why is rocco sorry?
Rocco years ago was asked *if there was any show you could wipe from memory and rewatch he said Eva* That answer made me seek it out and damn there is no going back. The 90s anime is a seminal piece of art that is timeless. Happy to have come along for the last part of the journey. Art can bring people together no matter there difference Shawns arc proves this to be true even more so. Bravo gents love ya.
Oh my god, the segment after the movie's over, I'm tearing up. Such a beautiful moment. I watched this just hoping to get some cool insight into the movie and lore, and got so much more.
Rocco talking about Eva and loneliness hit hard
this thumbnail is the greatest in UA-cam history
Wow, Mariel has not aged a single day from the 3.0 spoilercast.
Curse of eva
@@doofy3111 lol
It’s kind of perfect that Shawn couldn’t care less about the technical/lore aspects, because it made Rocco and Garrett’s talking over it not ruin the experience. He was able to take in the characters and story, while getting good context for everything. I was surprised how well they were able to explain the previous plot as the movie went along.
Didn’t think I’d fucking CRY by the end of watching this but okay.
I like how they refer to Shinji as "you" towards Shawn when explaining things to him.
I see Shawn Chatfield in an EVA stream, I’m hooked
Feel so lucky to have not gotten into Evangelion until last year being able to watch everything without having to wait the decades that some fans have had to
I got into Evangelion in June. This summer has been crazy for me as a fan
Hits different when you aged along with the show.
Could anyone please tell me the episode numbers for the previous spoliercasts for the other movies and NGE if possible
Good bye, all of Padres.
Shawn...
Congratulations!!!
The end of this stream hit so freaking hard. Appreciate you guys and your friendship
It's no coincidence that Evangelion can make us all come together and get to understand one another. *applause* Congratulations, Mega64!
When Thrice Upon a Time comes out on Blu ray this stream should be included as a bonus commentary
I enjoyed this stream so much, hearing the guys dissect and analyze this film feels like a vital experience for Eva fans, and hearing how it impacted everyone was a really nice moment.
Also whoever gifted those subs at the start is pretty fucking cool
Will there be a Mega 64 Rebuild???
Mega64: They Will (Not) Rebuild
I’m just gonna echo everything already said here. I’m so happy I got to experience this live with everyone, it was WAY more than I bargained for. What a beautiful ending to a long, rollercoaster of an arc.
I didn’t watch any of Eva until I was well into my 20s and I was afraid I had missed the boat, but the past 5 years I’ve had with it have been so powerful and Mega64 has a great deal of kredit to take for that. Love you guys
I hardly ever get a chance to tune into a stream for years, but I'm really glad I was able to watch this amazing film with y'all, both twitch chat and mega64
oh just realized its commentary, dope!
I cried when the movie ended and then I cried again when Rocco hugged Shawn
watching through the movie for a second time with you all. It was great to see it all again and take it all in again. This was great! Was not expecting to get so emotional with shawn's monolog after the end of the movie, holy moly. Had a good cry with you all. Thanks! (lol) :D
being a fan of you guys for over 10 years now and growing up alongside you, the ending of this stream is one of the most powerful moments I've experienced while consuming any kind of content. I cried ters of legitimate joy for you guys and it made me want to go and reach out more to my friends and my family to tell them just how much I love them. Thank you
someone's gotta do a RLM style slow zoom edit on shawn's face while Rocco and Garrett are lore dumping at around 1:25:45
I really liked the movie the first time I saw it, but all the discussion and interpretations from the boys really helped tie a lot of the pieces together and I loved the movie even more watching it now. And just like everyone else in the comments, the whole cathartic moment with Shawn at the end was so heartfelt and beautiful. Thank you all for this, I've been a fan of Eva for a long time, but I think Mega64 will forever be intrinsically tied to it for me and that really speaks to your passion (whether it's love or hate) for these characters and this world.
What a perfect companion for such a satisfying ending to Eva, also such a satisfying ending to the "Shawn Rage" saga
I loved this, I just watched this and I love that you guys are fellow hardcore Eva fans. Eva has been a huge part of my life since the late 90s so yes finally having a true ending is great. I loved this final movie so much. it’s definitely a happy but emotional one for me.
i like evangelion
So brave.
This was such a great way to spend the evening! Live chat was awesome! More live watches would be so much fun!
Now we just need a podcast at a Padres game to complete the cycle
That’s history right there, you understand
this is how Shawn wins
Enjoyed this very much!
I WAITED YEARS FOR THIS THANK YOU
I think the Time-Loop theory is pretty clearly displayed in 3.0+1.0 as having happened, with the literal scenes from EoE and some re-creations (such as Asuka waking up on the beach) and I think having the Original Series and EoE having happened makes the Rebuild Finale more impactful.
EoE saw a Shinji who was just mentally broken and incapable of understanding others, in the moment when he has all of humanity in his hands he basically says "just let them all die, I don't care" because he is in such a broken state.. and then that literally happens. His wish is granted, everyone is obliterated. At the very end of EoE after some Orange Goo Therapy he realizes living in pain is better than not living at all and is spit back out.
Somehow after waking up on that beach, the world was remade and restarted. The Oceans are red in the rebuilds, the moon has the blood streak from EoE and there are large white outlines of bodies in a crucified pose (the MP evas after merging with Rei and floating in space having come crashed down). All of EoE clearly happened but things got restarted and they lost their memories. Everything plays out similar in Rebuild 1 but there are small differences which branch off and become HUGE changes by the 2.0 movie. By the Finale Shinji has carved a different path, he has grown and even though he came terribly close to repeating his mistakes after Kaworu died- he snapped out of it this time and confronted his father. Beyond just confronting him he came to an understanding with him and found himself again at the Helm of Humanity. This time he chooses to restart everything again, but strips away the Evas and Angels, these things burdening humanity and himself- he remakes the world as it is in the real life, mundane and normal but he can find happiness there.
I did not expected end up crying at the end of the stream. xD
Quality heartwarming stream glad I watched
2:57:35 I'm so happy for Johnny. good on ya, kiddo
Kawrou and Shinji confirm during their conversation that they have indeed met multiple times before. It confirms that Rebuild is a sequel to NGE, and a continuous cycle of events.
That's wrong, we see that Kaworu met Shinji when he was a child, not in previous "loops", on that beach. We know from the previous movie that Shinji's childhood memories were manipulated, so that perferctly explains why he didn't remember Kaworu. This movie shows that the charachters and world of the Rebuild are not the same as those of the original series, there's just no way it's the same timeline.
Awww that wholesome moment at the end got me, best character development ever.
Gotta love Rocco's passion
I never realised how many parallels there was between Evangelion and Mega64 until I watched this stream. The sweded videos where perfectly cast.
I'm really glad the boys enjoyed the movie but watching Shawn's review and the end of the Shawn hates eva arc was more enjoyable than anything in 3.0 + 1.0. Easily one of best pay offs of being a mega64 and eva fan for over a decade.
My thoughts too
This was wonderful. So glad you guys did this, and I'd love to see more - more watch parties AND more eva discussion. I can see some of my friend and I in Shawn and Rocco so their little heart to heart meant a lot to me.
As a diehard Eva fan I agree with Shawn. There was a lot of fanservice in the original series, but it was somehow more tasteful - like it generally knew when and how to use sexuality to fit the tone. Like EoE had a ton of nudity during dark and dramatic scenes, but it just contributed to the sense of discomfort. The ass shot of Toji's sister during a major dramatic scene was jarringly bad.
I also think Rocco was going out on a limb with the default, untouched 3D models being some kind of commentary on creativity. I think Johnny was closer to the mark in that they're meant to be souls restored to their default state - so it's still meta, just not commentary. There is similar imagery in EoE during Instrumentality.
That was a really nice monologue in the end
this is helping me process this movie. Wish I would have seen it in theaters with others.
hell yeah been waiting for this!!
coming back here for view number two. i think i know what parts the guys will get really excited about
What a blessing this was.
This connects so well to the actual film and its meaning, it's insane.
Congratulations!!!
Congratulations!
Shawn is who Shinji would be if he never met Kaworu and gave up the Eva
EDIT: Shaun called it by the end! Congratulations!
2:52:00 Holy shit guys, bravo!
Shawns monologue got me cryin bro
Made me happy made me smile
Fun fact is that kaworu states the cycle isn't broken but its a prolonged break for now but the cycle is still destined to continue
The only cycle is that of Kaworu dieing and resurrecting on the Moon, so as long as he's an angel he's going to resurrect on the Moon when he dies
wow 4 out of 5 for the karmic resonance Shawn felt thats awesome
Okay, you got me there.
Congratulations.
cathartic
you guys should make more streams like that.
make a whole series of it, just watching some weird crazy movie and putting your thoughts in the end.
Shinji says he is not going to rewrite the world.
I think with Wille returning to Village 3 the final scene is really just meta as shit, but the world actually went on.
when i was watching this movie, i couldn't help but think about the types of people that write on twitter everyday about how we are living in a literal hell-world, i mean they aren't just on twitter but it's a thing, people go online or whatever and just mope about every little thing. Like I can imagine these people watching this and feeling like the ending of the show doesn't mean much because the world will always be full of evil people in their opinion, they can't enjoy life, and would probably actually prefer instrumentality.
So upset I missed this live. I'll have to make do with this
I watched this entire thing and have never seen an episode of evangelion
I'm looking forward to seeing Shawn play Shinji again. *wink*
Rocco only rebuild is about cycles repeating. The original series was about making your own world and focused way more on Shinji's pathos.
(2:28:43) Yeah...the end part really broke the 5th wall 😅
THIS IS IT
Nagara may reference the Nagara class of cruisers from the Imperial Japanese Navy.
They keep referencing the Hideaki Anno documentary but I just can't find that anywhere.
Its on Amazon Prime
@@estehtix I've been looking for it on amazon prime and I can't find anything, could you tell me exactly how to type it?
Nagara is the brown chick who pilots the Wunder.
FINALLY!!!
Nagara is the pilot of the Wunder
i love gunpey on the wonderswan! it was on the ds too
In 2.22 Kaoru Says "Ill make sure your happy this time shinji"
What if he went back to gendo because he knew gendo could give shinji the power to recreate the world only to get double crossed in 3.33????
When I watched your stream for the third film I was a fucking 15 year old boi
Do they always delete the twitch VODs? I can't find this one. I wanted to see the chat reaction too. 😢
Bookmark for myself: video 28:45, movie 17:54 (don’t recommend using this for yourself because I may be friggin way off)
I wanna see Garret's video on the movie. Anyone know what his youtube channel is?
Dannngggg!! I bet 1000 on Shawn saying yes!!!!
3:00:47 I agree Shawn, the fan service is unnecessarily too much, kinda distracting
