Loved it. Truly one of the best ways this series could end. I'm glad to see Shinji getting an actual happy ending and this movie gives Shinji one of the best character development that a character can ever get.

I like the ending of movie because it is similar to manga's ending (which I think is the best) - final part is such meta.
Yea. For me I liked the ending mainly because Shinji himself his happy. Nice to see him living his life and having fun.
I see this as the more unambiguously happy version of EoE, in EoE we see all the souls released from Lilith and we are told that you can come back through your own volition (something foreshadowed in episode 20 where Shinji literally melts into LCL and they and they say that he has to want to come back to regain his human form, also everyone seems to agree that Asuka died in the fight with the mass produced evas but even she could come back). We're left with the implication that everyone can come back and start over, it has a dark tone, but an ultimately hopeful message. Also Shinji can finally be something other than an Eva pilot bc all the Evas and angels are dead and gone.
In Thrice upon a time we see all the souls turn actually turn back into people and Shinji literally creates a world without Evas where they never existed and he has literally grown up into just a normal dude who isn't an Eva pilot. Also there's Gendo's motivation is basically the same but there's like zero room for misinterpretation.
Also it's sad to think this might be the last anime directed by Hideaki Anno for a while, still hoping that he adapts the entirety of the Nausicaa manga LET ME DREAM
Yeah. The clear cut ending and seeing Shinji happy and living a normal life was something that I really liked about this movie. The poor kid went through a lot of things so him getting the happy ending he deserves was really nice.
A proper Nausicaä adaptation... a man can only dream.
1.Mari is a college classmate of Yui，She later became a clone and know a lot of inside information.
2.The Last Train Platform in the Movie，Asuka is sitting on the left side of Rei and Kaworu, playing games.
3.The world in the whole story is reincarnated：Kaworu wake up in those coffins on the moon and said：that's why I have to repeatedly play a role in this predestined circular narrative for all of eternity、Shinji said to Kaworu at last：I've been here before many times and met u.

あと，生まれたばかりは数匹いたけど，サードインパクト後の環境で1匹しか生き残れなかったと考えられます。

Only thing that really bothered me is not seeing asuka smile in the end, perfect film btw whatever anyone thinks. loved gendo VA going all in.
Yea. It was also not shown what happened to Asuka after that. We know she's fine but still something more concrete would have been better. Just like you said, the movie was fantastic.

Yea, but they just showed her at that scene. We did not get to know how she is and what she is doing after the timeskip.

Yes. I am satisfied. I really liked the ending. Seeing Shinji happy is enough to make me feel happy as well.

最後のシーンの駅は庵野監督の生まれ育った山口県宇部市にある宇部新川駅という実在する駅です。
Oh, thank you for letting me know. I loved the transition to that scene, it was so good.
I don't like but i don't hate either that Mari ended up so suddenly with Shinji. I don't know what to make of it, i expected Rei or Asuka but what does bother me is that Rei somehow ended up with Kaworu, and Asuka with Kensuke (though this one is unclear on whether they are together as a couple or as a mentor relationship),
It feels such a slap on the face that those people ended up together without any explanation whatsoever, and that Mari didn't get a proper explanation as to who her character is in-universe, Fuyutsuki calls her Iscariot. We know thanks to a manga extra (and a little cameo in Gendo's memories) that she's from the same era with Gendo and Yui, but how did she became an Eva pilot, how does she know so much about everything including stuff that only SEELE knew and for moments she seems to know as much as Kaworu? Was her purpose in this whole thing just to be in a relationship with Shinji? Is she a shotacon then? So much questions about her character that'll likely never get resolved. I like her but i also hate what they did with her character.
The rest of the movie though, absolute gorgeous. One thing that i find amazing is how this Commander Kaworu thing was already shown in the preview for 3.0 at the end of the 2.22 movie. There's Kaworu there using the commander uniform.
The main thing that is kind of lacking is the lack of information and screentime for Mari. You're right, we know nothing about her which is probably the biggest reason that makes a lot of people sceptical about this ending. I'm guessing the small time skip was when Shinji and Mari bonded, so not showing that is also another reason why we feel lost about the relationship.
I'm also of a similar opinion to you. The movie was fantastic but the ending was neutral for me. One thing I'm really glad about is that Shinji really seems happy in the end which is something that was never really the case in his past. I'm happy that he got a happy ending.

How is this different from End of Evangelion
The End of Evangelion was kind of vague especially they left it on to our interpretation what happened after we see Asuka and Shinji on the beach. I guess this gives us a more concrete ending as we see Shinji grown up in the end. Also, Gendo and Shinji never fought directly in the End of Evangelion.
Hideki anno earned more than 1000crores from eva rebuilds but I am not satisfied with the ending
In my opinion it's okay since Evangelion is a story with a lot of parallel branches. The original anime ends in one way while the movies end in a completely different way due to change in the circumstances. The best thing that happened in the movie is Shinji became a lot more mature and got immense character development by the end.

Oh, I was wondering why this was named Thrice upon a time.
I agree, this ending was really weak. But remember, Anno had a love-hate relationship with this franchise enough to despise the fans. Makes sense a very minimal amount of ideas were explored and everything done intentionally purely for the sake of money.

Showing how much Shinji changed at the ending scene made me very happy. That's why I was laughing. We are accustomed to seeing Shinji as a kid who always lacked self confidence so suddenly seeing him like that in the end really surprised me, so I started laughing.

So was the ending of NGE that the world ended? I've only watched bits and pieces and don't intend to watch the whole because I know its a mind fuck
Yes. The movies are a separate story than the anime.
