- Caught up with Max Ward and Dan Lactose for some way back machine fun and the origin story of their band SPAZZ. Growing up in the Peninsula, punk shows at the Pony Express pizza spot in Redwood City, Plutocracy, recording with Bart, Kevvy Kev at KZSU, meeting Kool Keith and much more are all discussed in this look back at a band that only got bigger after it was gone.

Ordered some stuff from 625 Thrash when I was a young punk and Max wrote back a really nice letter. Meant a lot to me!
LONG LIVE SPAZZ. worshipped this band in high school.
CRUSH KILL DESTROY
Shout-out
Max made me fall in love with drums
I believe max also drummed for what happens next??
Lived on Farm Hill Road in Redwood City. Max and I went to the same community college, I saw Immortal Fate a couple times, and we were both these d00ds and I never once met him. Then I met him in Vermont and now have his drum kit in my basement in Pittsburgh
All hail the underground.
Spazz -- band ahead of their time...Iguana Cafe LA ,mid - late 90`s Killer show--- still listening! underground legends..nice to see and hear from them now a days..cool chat interview...down to earth guys!..Cheers Talking` Schmit!
Now it makes sense as to why I saw Max at Asakusa Deathfest in a bastard noise hoodie last year.
What up fellas! Been a while Max! 🤟🏻
Skate-violence > Power-violence

Fun interview, guys.
Dan's MPC 2000XL making an appearance in the back. A true oldschool DJ
Ahhh, Pony Express Pizza. Saw quite a few shows there. Saw Plutocracy there in 89 or 90. Since Max mentioned Green Day I'll add that I also saw them there one time were my buddy and I were 2 of the 6 or so people there for the show. Cant remember the year on that one but it was probably same like 89-90. Definitely a cool little place to see shows back then. Hadn't thought about that place in a while. Brought back some good memories
Yeah, we didnt even know what we had at the time. True gold. Verbal Abuse, RKL were highlights for me
I was one of those few hundred people across the country keeping up with Slap A Ham releases in the 90s 😂
Legends.
rad interview !!!!
thanks! Love catching up with my Peninsula bros
I love this
thanks!
The first Spazz I ever heard is their track on 'Short Music For Short People'. That was enough to hook me! I went to the only decent punk/HC etc record shop in town at the time ('Out Of Step' , in Leeds UK)....
.... What a God - send that shop was! I bought LA REVANCHA on CD , A Desert Island Disc for sure!
Over the next year or two I ended up with pretty much everything Spazz released in terms of Full Albums , Yet LA REVANCHA has always been my favorite. All releases are great mind... Just that LRev should go down in history as the BEST EVER , of those genres , It's totally in a league of it's own.
There's 2 or 3 tracks on 'SWEATIN to the Oldies' that would fit well in La Revancha , I always thought..... Those tracks with the Banjo (and Jews Harp?) , and Saxophone.
I can't do it (La Rev') justice with my words , but the Production is a big part of it.
I don't think I'd ever considered / respected Production much at all until Spazz came along with La Revancha.
Awesome 'Power Trio' , really refreshed my interest in the music , after years of just chasing a addiction. I'm sure that one way or another Spazz and Capitalist Casualties etc ETC helped me , when I made the effort to clean up. Thanks for loads of hours of the best riffage and Drum & Bass.
EVERYONE SHOULD HEAR LA REVANCHA🙏❤️😊👍
