Seeing that you referred to yourself as arrogant, you became humbled by disease and made a decision to sort yourself out. I have just retired from nursing after 47 years. There is something wonderful about giving professional evidence based advice and seeing the positive outcome, with any level of restored health or independence. You can take a horse to water, but you cannot make him drink. Superb to hear you took the bull by the horns and got a result.Best wishes from UK

Because of the shortage of doctors here in Ontario, Canada I was without a family doctor for 10 years. When I finally got the call that there was a doctor with a space for me, I went in for a complete physical and some blood work. She phoned me a week later and suggested that even though my weight is perfect and my blood work is perfect, I should go on Lipitor because of my family history "just to be safe". Luckily I am skeptical and outspoken. I said "oh you mean the family history of my parents who both smoke 2 packs a day, one parent who is an alcoholic, both are not active and don't concern themselves about their diet. Both parents have had heart attacks and various cancers. That family history?" I am 68 years old. Never smoked. Don't drink alcohol. Been eating a vegetarian diet (would now be called whole food plant based) since 1979. I exercise daily. Stretching and weights every other day. Walk 10km every day. Needless to say, I did not take the Lipitor. I haven't seen the doctor since. I am healthier than she is!
@@GlobalDrifter1000Trying to help with what exactly? Prescribing drugs on a whim with for no reason other than “ family history” is not helping anyone. Sometimes doctors are not always right. Exactly - same goes for eating real food. Back in the early 60’s, there were maybe a couple fast food outlets back then, McDonald’s was getting started, Winstead‘s, Funhouse Pizza, and a few others were sit down inside restaurants, but majority of individuals ate at home or brought their meals from home. Today, you can’t drive down a street without going past 15 - 20 outlets and beverages are so large from the beginning where they were 1/3 the size. Back then, people were physically walking and outside more, today they inside or are sitting mesmerized staring at there phone all day. Instead of being physically active, they are sitting with a bored attitude sucking up sugar drinks or processed snacks then wondering how I am so big and sluggish compared to yesteryears. Money back then was tight, today money is thrown out of the pocket for junk - Starbucks, Donuts, Fastfood outlets, new phones, new cars & trucks that cost $70,000 - $100,000. Buy, buy, buy, spend, spend, spend. Then you look towards tomorrow and listen where is my money and health gone to?
Then again some people don't want to listen. My husband has type 2 diabetes. Loves dairy queen, eats tons of carbs, drinks 36 cans of diet coke a week etc. His doctor told him today he's in great shape, keep up the good work. Here's prescription for more statins and a glucose monitor, which medicare will not pay for until you are on insulin. I gave up a long time ago. At least he eats a good healthy dinner every night because I cook it. I can't control the rest of his life. I love the content of all these videos. Been off sugar almo 99.999% for the last 2.5 years. no processed food etc.
My Dr. Friend told me he had 6 hours of nutrition training in 10 years in medical school. I know more about nutrition and diet than he does! #1. Is a strong immune system. My mom ignored doctors and died in perfect health at age 94.
I love this conversation. I see all of these conditions at my hospital. People are overweight, malnourished, metabolically declining with chronic diseases... a miserable quality of life.
My nephew is an RN at a large hospital. During the height of Covid, he worked the Covid unit. He told me over 95% of his patients were obese/type 2 diabetes etc. None were healthy to begin with because of poor food choices they had made up until that point
To be blunt , most Physicians at the end of the day are really just pharmaceutical reps...God help us , I have to wonder what they do with their own families
Sugar is in so many processed foods that people feed to their children, and it starts them on a sugary diet for often the rest of their lives. And sadly for kids and adults in the hospital they are fed a lot of sugar and unhealthy foods.
I recently grumbled to my GP about the weight gain that follows as a consequence of a pill that I take. Went from 9 stone to 10 and a half, at 5' 7" not quite overweight, but almost. I grilled him about the mechanism by which this happens - and he said, 'well, it makes you crave sugar'! Crazy world! I've decided to change the drug, but due to the UK doctor shortage, I couldn't pass the triage to get an in person consultation. On researching the drug, it says that if the patient gains over 3lb in the first few weeks, it should be deprescribed. I don't think harassed GPs have the time for look into drug contraindications.
Dr Lustig = medical hero. I used to teach biological anthropology and used his material on high fructose corn syrup to convey the problem with ignoring our evolved biology. It was hard to get people to take it seriously. Convenience is a powerful motivator.
I was told by a physician that to be covered under their malpractice insurance they cannot deviate from the standard of care. Meaning that they must follow preset guidelines for care and providing a treatment or offering guidance outside of these standards would be considered malpractice. Problem is, these standards and a large portion of the medical curriculum are greatly controlled by the pharmaceutical industry. Gone are the days when a doctor can use his brain and assessment skills to diagnose and treat. When was the last time you have gone to a doctor and been asked basic questions like how well you sleep, what type of diet do you consume, do you have regular bowel movements? The standard questions now are what’s your preferred pronoun, which gender do you identify as, and have you had all of your 500 CDC recommended vaccines. Our body is not assessed as whole system working together, it is divide by systems. If it’s your heart see a cardiologist, your lungs, a pulmonologist, podiatrist, urologist, hematologist, etc. as if each of these systems are stand alone and don’t work in unison for optimum health. There is not one person that looks at your body as a whole. PCP’s no longer have this skill. They are just a gatekeeper that does basic labs and testing so they can refer you somewhere else.
It's the reason why we spend so much in (so called Health Care which should be called Keeping people unhealthy and returning customers). How can we overhaul the system. It needs a big change immediately or is this their depopulation plan? Sure seems like they want everyone dead.
💯 % ! I’ve noticed this even in my own practice and a lot more since COVID. The breed of new doctors that are paralyzed without an algorithm to follow is alarming. It is quite frightening to watch especially when they are so closed minded to anything outside the current “ guidelines“ that have been put there by industries with self serving interests. It’s really sad.
I went to see a specialist to fix my problem of having chronic headaches. He offered me a pill to alleviate the headaches. I came here to find out why I had chronic headaches. He looks at me as if I told him something beyond what any patient would dare ask. Next doc: He asked me if I ever had a test to find out if I needed a CPAP machine? I did. This was not a solution either. With the help of an endocrinologist was to cut out sugar.
Great job getting rid of your headaches. Please research CPAP and add more collagen to your diet. CPAPs have a lot of undesirable side effects. Now that you are taking charge of your health, keep learning and improving your health. Blessings.
I attended 7 years of AA meetings as an observer (Adult child not alcoholic`) most alcoholics turn to sugar after they give up alcohol. It is a big issue and many AA meetings have candy on the table along with coffee.
My mom took me to her AA meetings from 5-12. I've never been a drinker. Their stories really stuck in my head. I also love coffee and picked that up at the meetings. 😂
Myy brother did it - stopped smoking and started eating donuts multiple times a week. Had a heart attack at 60. Has a stint and drinks alcohol with steak dinners a lot - probably marbled fat steaks with a cosmo or Manhattan. Some people think they know it all. Good luck to you - your choice!
@maryl234 the sugar and carbs are probably worse than having a drink or two. And I think red meat is super healthy. My dad died on the floor in the middle of beer cans. So I definitely have a stigma about it, but I also hate the taste. But to each their own.
I was going to start hormone therapy. 44 and going thru menopause. Instead I switched to a true Mediterranean diet with whole veggies, fruits, nuts, seeds and the only meat I eat are seafood and eggs. I have maybe 1-3 drinks a year. This really helped every menopause symptom I was suffering from and i lost 40 pounds. I do lift weights 4x a week, walk a mile or two majority of days and do yoga 3x a week. Going to start meditating daily for just 15 min morning n evening soon too. Two simple things-changing diet and exercising- changed my life significantly. It took a few months but now I no longer feel like I have ADHD even. My energy is high but I am a lot more focused. Im mad I started in my 40s and not sooner but grateful I forced myself to form the new habits
Honey it is not JUST the food, it is a whole body whole environment issue. Lack of sleep, unmanaged stress, poor social relationship, lack of hydration etc,. Food is important but it is one part of it.
Food is most of it. Those factors are important, but don’t diminish the importance of proper nutrition. Very few people are dehydrated in modern countries.
Hung out with some LDS people but couldn't keep up the friendship because we couldn't ever eat together. Their pantry was loaded with sugar and fake food. Yes it had a year shelf life. What an incredible podcast episode!! Showing us ordinary people how to prevent illness affecting us. Physician heal thyself…. Proletariat heal thy self… and it can be done. I eat well now and I feel great. I wish my doctor had told me I could do this…. No, the thing is, people need to take back their own power over their health!! Why should we be dependant on ill-educated doctors to advise us on prevention? Because they’re not trained in it! Thank you to guys like you who help us all in being better, feeling better and healing ourselves both physically and mentally because having started the ketogenic diet in may 2023 I can 100% say it heals mental and physical illness… Socrates was right!!! “All illness begins in the gut!” ❤
OMG 😱! Such powerful information that so many people don’t want to hear. I’ve saved my life by cutting basically all sugars and changing my whole food intake by real and proper diet, about 3 years ago. I was having UTI’s all the time. By now, no more! I was just given so many kinds of antibiotics for 34 years and no one talked to me about food and my « eating lifestyle »! I try to explain my findings to people around me but they laugh when I tell them sugar and processed food is evil. Keep on the great work ❤❤❤❤
I started watching my diet extremely carefully (cutting out processed foods, sugars, sweeteners, unsaturated fats, eating less meat, more fruits and vegetables and trying to eliminate stress as best as I can) and exercising regularly and I feel like a brand-new person. 💪😉💪
@@andreimaxwell4455 Eating meat is overrated as far as I'm concerned. My health has improved tremendously after I cut out eating beef and pork from my diet (I still eat beef and pork but to a minimum)!

When i was at the doc office last month the staff cleared out a whole corner of a very packed waiting room, they put out a table with doughnuts and coffee. There was a guy sitting at the table as a medicare rep. They made people stand or go out to their cars and wait to put that table out. Couldn’t believe it, everyone was pissed. This was something I learned years ago in my battle with Lyme Dx. I had a wonderful team of doctors who attacked the problem holistically; diet, sleep, meditation and then healing. I learned so much about food and it’s ability to keep your body in homeostasis. Thank you for this important information.

These videos are so helpful as I find so much information to use. At 68 I am fit & healthy so there is no way I would walk into a doctors surgery, never ever.
Totally agree, sugar/processed food/being over weight are the big issues in health. As a 5'9" male, 10.7 stone, I would add chronic spinal/neck conditions which cannot be cured and it affects every aspect of living and sleeping....it's only treated with pain and anti-inflammatory medication. I have long given up on doctors (for a cure). You can feel as if you're on your own with degenerative conditions.
At one point I was 50 pounds heavier and on 7 different meds. Now I occasionally take an OTC pain meds and I’m 40 pounds lighter. I feel better now and less sickness than I had 10 years ago 😊
@@cjhoward409 That is excellent. Well done. I lost one stone and was able to reduce my tablets, I did try stopping them several times but pains returned so I do my best to take fewer tablets. Over say a year that's a big reduction in number of tablets.
I don't know if this would help you but my husband had cronic pain in neck and shoulder. I watched Dr Eric Berg's video about pain in this area and he suggested it could be a vitamin B complex deficiency. It totally resolved my husband's pain.
Anything can be cured....just start mobility exercises and stretches slowly and regularly.... add weight lifting... again in a smart decent way... your body will change quickly....
Phenomenal interview... I wanted to hear more:). I have been frustrated by the medical system, seeing how they have treated my parent over the last 20yrs. I recall asking a very competent cardiologist... I understand you need to increase my parents blood pressure dose right now... but can we also start talking about how we can reduce it in the long run? Can we come up with a plan to reverse their symptoms?? There was NO RESPONSE! it's been frustrating to see them get sicker, while the medicine dosage just goes up! Oh & recently the Dr did not want to do anything, because my parent is older!!! When you get to a certain age... a bone spur in the shoulder causing a lot of pain does not need any help from you... after you have already tried cortisol shots to no avail! Btw... the shoulder pain is actually impacting their quality of life. We need all the help we can get here. To most of us with no medical background.. this is harder!
Addiction to sugar, poverty, high price of healthy food and mono crop farming. They put corn and sugar in everything processed. Even our produce has less nutrients and vitamins due to poor soil. Let's not forget about toxic pesticides. I eat organic, grassfed beef, Pastured raised chicken eggs that cost more but healthier. I reversed a lot of my health issues 15 years ago by changing my diet. I used to have chronic bronchitis/pneumonia, sinus and ear infections. I had asthma and severe allergies. I was over weight and swelling joint pain. I haven't had to take antibiotics or steroids since changing my diet. I have celiac and hashimoto's. I take no medications. I do intermittent fasting and low carb. I stay off grains, gluten and dairy. I do better low carb. I have sustained a health weight for 15 years. I never got covid. I was vaccinated for covid and had boosters. I did get flare up of my autoimmune and also a metallic taste that went away with intermittent fasting and eating no processed food. The last two years working on my mental health and burnt out nurse 30 years at the bedside. I have slow gut motility and working on vagus nerve stimulation. I do Wim Hof breathing and cold plunging. I use a tens unit also. I struggle with ptsd and depression. I get gallbladder attacks and no sludge or stones. Most likely it slowly releases bile and then my whole digestive system slows down. I get IBS-C. I go to a therapist and 12 step meetings for codependency. Things are getting better. I do believe mental health is important to change your mindset. I was taught to care for others and not care for myself. I had a lot of negative and fearful thinking. I would get emotionally dysregulated and then over eat on carbs. Severely obese patients have more problems then over eating junk. The mental component has to be addressed.
Im a boxing coach.....week after week, i have kids turning up,10/11/12 yrs of age,...70,80,90,kilograms. Morbidly obese unable to move properly, with parents who think its completely normal.
I noticed this had started 20 years ago when I was taking my kids to swimming lessons. The majority of kids there had rolls of fat, and legs that rubbed together. It was a shock, this wasn’t an issue when I was a kid, the fat kid was the exception.
For 38 years, I was undiagnosed celiac. That was thanks to the inability of the medical industry to understand how important food is to health. Nowadays, they are changing thanks to more research into gut health.
North America’s health environment is so poor because we subsidize crop insurance for grains like corn that make high fructose corn syrup cheaper so it gets added to 80% of items in grocery stores. And we zone 70% of neighborhoods single family housing only so shops are far from homes forcing everyone to drive. We regulate and subsidize a suburban environment where everyone has to drive everywhere and most food is choc full of sweeteners.
I beg to differ on some of these points. I had some of these and "cured" them by eliminating alcohol, only getting fructose from whole fresh fruit (not juices or similar), reducing chocolate (reduced theobromide), changing my exercise routine with an extra hour a day of low impact (the equivalent of walking an extra 3.5 miles in one go), eliminating coffee, and reducing salt. The result? BP from 145/100 to 130/80 on a bad day. On most days when relaxed my BP is now 110/68. Ah yes I reduced my weight by 70 pounds as well. The fat around my liver has reduced by 80% to slightly below normal levels. I have actually increased my calorie intake but the increase is purely from beans, pulses, and vegetables (not counting potatoes or grains),
Great info. Eating my daily 4 x bacon 4 x eggs 4 oz hard cheese while listening to this segment. I put ketchup on my eggs but it's the "no sugar added" brand. Every little bit helps!
No sugar added means there’s still a lot of sugar (natural sugar for example in tomatoes) and just that in the last step of the manufacturing process, they didn’t add more sugar…already lots of sugar to begin with :(
@@baileynajarian1112 Yes, I know, but not a whole lot. Incremental elimination of sugar is better than not trying at all. Salsa might be better to add taste to eggs.
The worst thing for PCOS is that doctors prescribe the contraceptive pill to help when the pill causes insulin resistance in as fast as one month in healthy subjects. PCOS is due to insulin resistance. We don't need to raise our estrogen levels to lower our testosterone. We need to lower our insulin resistance and our cortisol levels. Eating low carbnor keto, exercising and fasting is what helped me the most.

It's been clear for a long while that medical schools are not helping prepare their students to heal, just to sell pharmaceuticals. When will there be a radical transformation of the curriculum of medical schools. If there is it may just make their output relevant. I am amused by the constant complaint that we don't have enough doctors, too many more likely. I have witnessed via family and friends what I would describe as negligent behaviour by both specialists and family doctors. I am healthy and do not have a doctor. I am impressed by the doctors who call themselves 'functional' and hope that they can lead their colleagues out of the darkness.

Number one way to treat anything is to get your patient to care about themselves. No the case today. The doctors don’t care for their patients, so the patient cares less about themselves. Treatment starts with care. Haven’t found that here yet.

I just read a mayo study finding “relationship” (they won’t say cause” between children under 2 receiving antibiotics and developing obesity, celiac, asthma, allergies, etc. and in the 60’s doctors radiated children to treat some chronic ear nose throat infections. Also processed foods became more common, plus big pharma stepping up with sweeteners, and diet foods and drinks. Also we know gut health was messed up long before we knew there Is Gut Health. Wheat, corn and other grains cause inflammation and addiction. The United States government reversed the so call food pyramid pushing carbs. Let’s see, what else, mineral depletion in the land, in the food and water ie magnesium! Read up on magnesium deficiency! And so much more! Calories are baloney. If u eat nothing inflammatory or addicting the body automatically ceases to be hungry. Hunger and craving/addiction are different experiences. One is natural and peaceful, and the other we keep on thinking can be controlled via will power and self discipline.
It would be great if we (UK) were offered an blood test if were showing symptoms of any of these. I have cholesterol test but no idea of I have a fatty liver? If I did, and the result was bad, I could take and implement dietary advice.
Contrary to the brainwashing that high cholesterol and a fatty liver are caused by a red meat and a high fat diet, it is actually a result of a sugar diet. A high sugar diet leads to a fatty liver especially in correlation with a diagnosis of type II diabetes due to the excess sugar being converted to fat and stored in the liver where it can quickly be converted back to sugar for energy when circulating sugar in the blood stream drops below a certain point. When the diet is constantly high in sugar, the liver doesn’t have the need to release any of the fat that it is storing and therefore becomes very fatty and cannot function properly. A fatty liver and high cholesterol can be reversed by removing sugar from the diet and allowing the liver the opportunity to convert the stored fat back into sugar so it can be used for energy.

Could the proliferation of big new drugstores everywhere, mRNA experiments, and a collapsing sick care industry be reponsible for poor health outcomes ?
I think that pouring antibiotics down the drain does not help either. So the anti biotics may kill some bacteria but it will only wound a lot more which get an immunity. The original patient may stop taking the antibiotic before it is gone from the system it comes back immune to that antibiotic.

To be blunt , most Physicians at the end of the day are really just pharmaceutical reps...God help us , I have to wonder what they do with their own families
Great accurate way of stating it.
Exactly!!!
>>I have to wonder what they do with their own families

Most people think that getting old means getting handicapped or otherwise ill in some way. They think its normal. Sad.

Honey is about 99% pure sugar.
Hung out with some LDS people but couldn't keep up the friendship because we couldn't ever eat together. Their pantry was loaded with sugar and fake food. Yes it had a year shelf life.

Today physicians must tow the line for the corporations they work for. And they are indoctrinated in medical school.
People need to want to help themselves as well. Let’s not forget that important point. Information is useless without action.
Mind blowing conversation, great observation by dr Robert Lustig. Thanks both of you for sharing and helping us to understand 🙏🙏
So many chronic conditions around, some though can't be fixed with low suger /carb diet unfortunately.

When I moved to Europe at 18 I did not look at alcohol as being poisonous and our military leaders were pouring the stuff down our throats.
