    Yes, in IPS even HDR1000 without local dimming zones (not edge zones) doesn't make a lot of sense because IPS contrast stays almost the same 1000:1 and only the brightness is increased + 10 bit gradient, so if it is possible, the brightness must be decreased to a level of about 400-500 nits to see deeper black spots by keeping 10 bit smoother color gradient. It gives some liveliness to a picture compared to SDR 400-500 nit look which is usually only 8 bit.

    • @doctorfresh3856
      @doctorfresh3856 2 роки тому +7

      So what I hearing from you is that if you want and amazing HDR experience and it doesn't have local dimming basically do not buy.

    • @socialreport2836
      @socialreport2836 2 роки тому +4

      @@doctorfresh3856 Yes, an amazing HDR experience is only possible by having for dark scenes OLED/QD-OLED (True Black HDR400/500/600) but for really bright scenes mini-led panels (at least 500 but better 1000 local dimming zones or more).
      This panel is obviously for those people who want to economise. The true HDR1000 isn't possible on this panel, basically "SDR" with 10 bit color depth gradient (and only if it is possible to lower the brightness to the level of 400-500 nits at HDR mode to keep the contrast for black areas and 10 bit color + black equalizer can also be used, if possible but it usually doesn't work at HDR mode).

    Beleive it or not, I actually returned my LG C2 and bought this. It was driving me nuts using it as an everyday PC monitor. I gotta say the is the nicest IPS panel I ever seen in my life and it's not an exaggeration. Also the panel seems to be wayyy different from the GP950, I don't know what it is, but it feels and looks like a totally different panel. I think a lot of people will make the mistake of thinking this is just a 32 version of the 27, it's definitely not... personally I'd take this over the Alienware QD OLED any day of the week. Everyone is so OLED crazy now, that this monitor isn't getting it's proper shine. This is the best review I've seen of this monitor so far.

      I choosed this over the AW3423DWF myself, mainly because I don't like the Ultrawide aspect ration but also for not having to worry about burn-in or image retention. I don't use HDR but other then that? It's awesome!

      This is Michael. I agree with you completely and I did choose this over the alienware QD oled made by Samsung. Yes, I will get one of those for my living room someday, but for PC gaming this 32" 4K is perfect. It's fast and crystal clear, with the best R GB color you're going to get. Plus you don't have that ultra wide mess which makes using the monitor for everyday work less plausible.

    I loved this monitor when I had it (was defective so I returned it). It gets insanely bright so it was able to deliver a super vibrant HDR experience. The contrast is still poor due to its bad dimming zones, but the vibrancy made up for it imo. Lack of auto input switching pushed me to the 38GN950 since I need to use it everyday for my work PC.

      Great question. I can only tell you from my experience. But burn in or image retention is really reserved for oled panels. I have never seen any on an LG Nano IPS. I keep mine at 100% and no issues. Yes heat may be an issue especially with HDR ON but if its not too hot for you, you will not have a problem on an LG nano. Cheaper Fast IPS panels frpm other brands do have some problems but those were first gen Fast IPS. I have other brighter panels and at 100% no problems at all.

      @@dalbox6429 hi friend... ok I would honestly pick the Alienware AW3423DW. The reason is when I got that monitor I was unimpressed due to the sdr brightness. But after setting hdr on with sdr content and actual hdr content... I find the QD-OLED tech is really great vs the Competition. But I needed that because I wanted an ultrawide. So I would say this is the best ultrawide and don't look at any other UW than this AW3423DW. Now for purely sdr content. The LG just because the curve and Mini led blotches I see when set to high during yt browsing or dark web sites on the Neos. They all are awesome as I use them differently. But here is the winner in each category.
      AW3423DW: HDR, Glossy Perfection Screen, Fastest on a pixel Level, True Gsync Ultimate
      LG 32GQ950: SDR, Content Creation, Semi Matte but More reflective than the Neos (small bit), Flat Wide Viewing
      Neo G7/8: Curved Immersion, SDR True Black Levels, better Semi/Ultra Matte Easy Viewing in Daytime over the LG and AW.

    Got this monitor today. In general it is a great sdr monitor and a good hdr one for very bright games, and a very bad hdr one for very dark games for ex. Resident Evil village. I rma the monitor because it had quite a significant backlight bleed on the bottom right and left, which was distorting the clarity when dark colours were showing. I cannot handle backlight bleed in 2022… i come from a previous gen lg nano, they are beautiful and work very well but that backlight bleed is always there. I dont know how lg did not manage to fix this yet. You can buy 200-300 euros worth of ips monitors that have zero bleed. Anyway, i am thinking of whether i will reorder or go for an oled. I have an lg c1 oled and i have to say the colours pop more in these nano ips monitors, but i think i prefer a little bit less pop, in order to get rid of that annoying bleed

    Has the 32GQ950 improved any of the notable weak spots of the 27GP950? Is the display coating improved so the contrast gets less washed out in a bright room? Can it sustain proper HDR brightness levels for larger area sizes (eg. daylit outdoor environments in HDR games)?

      Personally I think it feels and looks like a completey different panel too me. I think it's a mistake to think that this is just a 32 inch version of the 27GP950. It's smoother, colors are way more deep and I think the panel coating is different. I don't know what it is, I can't really explain it, but is the NICEST IPS panel I ever seen in my life. Almost to a point where you won't regret not getting an OLED at this price point. I think because everyone is so OLED crazy now this monitor isn't getting it's proper shine. Hey great review but, you did not mention the issues that the, LG 32GQ950,LG 32GQ850, have.
    Both monitors do not auto switch inputs. So if you are on your pc and you turn it off, then you turn on your ps5/xbox. You have to manually switch inputs, these 2 monitors do not switch them like any $100 monitor will do??
    Also you can not have your pc or console turned on at the same time, say you just want to switch over to your console and your pc is on. You will not be able to switch to console, you have to turn off your pc, in order for the montior to switch over or vice versa!!!
    Another thing I was testing out last night, I had both my pc and ps5 on, and was trying to swtich over, well once I tried doing this, the audio compelety turned off on my pc, had to restart the pc and had to pull the plug on the ps5, since you cant swtich over, and all youi have is a black screen.
    I have the 1440p model, and my friend and other people on reddit who have the 4k model can confirm the same issues I am having with this new monitor.
    I have contacted LG, they pretty much told me that the auto switching is a feature that will not be coming in any future FW updates.
    Look its a beautiful monitor but for the $$$$$ they are asking, and a feature that $100 monitor has, kinda puts a bad taste in your mouth, you know.
    I do not know if you are having these issues, but every review that I have seen does not mention these issues???
    I have returned 3 of these montiors to micro center thinking I just got a bad one, but all of them do the same thing.
    Well hope this helps someone out.

    7:00 min --> the perfect example: 1168 nits but the dark areas are also waaaaaaaaaaay to bright because the monitor lacks enough zones to dimm the darker areas properly. The Acer CG437KP had also 16 Zones and rubbish HDR 1000 :D

      @@DisplayReality The main issues were the dim SDR and HDR tone mapping and sharpness. You are right that cinema produces the best look, but I still had blow outs in light areas and black crush and for some reason it looked like it was missing detail. I could not find settings I was happy with. The blacks were excellent, but almost too good in that something very black seemed to suck the detail away from light areas around it. I did comparison to HDR image on my CX and it definitely was losing details. My 32GQ950 has the details. Color didn't seem that great to me, but I didn't try any digital vibrance. SDR I missed the color and brightness of IPS. I knew I was sending the NEO back once I hooked my 27GN950 back up and I thought it looked better. Now the vanity items I guess? The select buttons are horrible and any time you use them the whole monitor wobbles. Next up is the curve. While not a deal breaker, if I have a choice I prefer flat. Seeing how I was messing with settings a lot it was very annoying. Last thing is I come in to my room looking at the side of my monitor. The NEO looks like ass from the side. At the end of the day I fooled with it for 4 days straight and wasn't happy. The 32GQ950 has awesome SDR and HDR I can live with. It's the first monitor I've owned (except the NEO) that I actually want to use HDR mode.

    I know this monitor isn't going to be as bright. But in clarity, pixel response, is there much difference in how clear this is over the acer cg437k? I have it, it's my second VA panel, but I had always had an ips beforehand. My first VA was an sj55w.
    But I'm sick of the blurring and smear. I play a lot of pixel an retro, and mu current gpu, an financial situation will not permit me to get a c2, because vrr an absolute must for me. Bit the visual depth is an important third next to visual clarity. I know ips doesn't have the contrast that VA does. That is the only redeeming quality of the cg437k to me. But the cg437k needs to go. It's gsync does not play nice with my amd freesync gpu, 5700xt thicc III ultra. Cause my system to reboot, or games to just crash when enabled. And switching to a 23.5 inch freesync panel, the crashes, the issues are gone.
    Anyway. This lg seems to fit most of my requirements for my next monitor, fast ips panel, deep color, higher hdr spec, freesync, and 32 inches. The 43 was too big for my desk and I am basically forced to sit least than 3 foot from the panel.
    Is there a VA panel close to the performance and price range, a lot of people on reddit have claimed VA panels are so good now, ips panels are just an afterthought and outdated tech trying to survive this new display landscape.

      The Neo G7 is a very good VA panel if you can deal with VRR flickering on games with poor frame pacing (common VA issue). In terms of image depth it’ll blow any IPS out of the water. The pixel response times of the Neo series are excellent for VAs. Dark transitions will still be faster on a nano IPS however these are the first VA panels tuned to death, they don’t smear like other VAs. Just avoid the G8 and G9, they got scanlines issues.

      I have a couple of videos I'm working on. But for video editing the LG is better. I love the 32GQ950 for work and creating. On the Neos you need to have local dimming off as during editing as it flickers alot for example. But the Neos are best for pure gaming

    Possible to do a direct 27GP950 to 32GQ950 comparison highlighting differences in IPS glow, backlight zone control / zone bleed (seems to have a smoother brightness falloff), SDR color / saturation and HDR experience (black crush, low color saturation when there are bright 600+ nit highlights)?
    Does the ATW Polarizer improve perceived contrast vs 27GP950 or offer any other significant improvements?

    never using shitty ips over VA. its easy to adjust for the low brightness of VA by altering room lighting while the crap contrast in ips has no solution at all.

    • @VaMpiRe-xo8er
      @VaMpiRe-xo8er 2 роки тому +6

      Search before talk about something atleast! IPS only have bad contract but what about VA panel?! Scanlines - flickering - ghosting - overshooting - black smearing - poor view angels - chance of dead pixel or panel dead = extremely high , if ips panel worth 3000$ , VA panel worth 1000$ .

    • @Mariscos420
      @Mariscos420 2 роки тому +1

      Mini led is the backlight technology, so it can be IPS or VA which are the panel types. Nano IPS is LGs version of IPS which provides better colors and pixel response times

I was checking out other monitors and tried to find a replacement, but other than the Samsung monitors, on paper everything else is a step down. I was getting ready to return it and wait to see what comes out next year, but then it just warmed up or something. I think it just need a break in period or something I can't even put my finger on it. Now I'm worried it won't last if it started that rough.
