Totally forgot that they make traditional German Baumkuchen in Japan. So weird to see it but I love it! It's very simple but unique. The dough is placed on a rotating spit, layer by layer, which gives it the distinct look, similar to tree layers, hence the name. We even have Baumkuchenspitzen towards christmas, usually soaked in Orange Liqueur, Irish Cream, Jamaica Rum or Amaretto, covered in milk or dark chocolate. I ordered one box on bokksu after this video and received the Seasons of Japan one, and man, it did NOT disappoint. I have been longing to try different authentic Japanese flavors and this box was perfect. This just strengthened my wish to come to Japan and eat everything I can get my hands on ;) Bokksu gets a 10/10 from me!

I learned about the Rabbit in the moon being the Japanese tradition when I really got into Sailor Moon. Decades later I was out having dinner with a friend and we had a huge full moon that night and when I looked at it I exclaimed that "The Japanese were right there is a rabbit in the moon". I've seen it somwtimes since, but I had kind of forgotten about that night, so thank you for the reminder. That friend passed away almost 5 years ago, and it's nice to have another memory of him.
From where I am from we too believe there is a rabbit on the moon but some say it is a little guy holding umbrella And also there is a weekly book for children with short stories in my region called chandamama(moon ) whose logo is rabbit on the moon 🌝
This is very interesting that there are snacks from Niigata! I lived outside of Niigata. I was taught this about the rabbit making mochi in the moon. I will have to try bokkusu now 😊
You guys got me hooked on Boksu. My favorite in this box was the pizza chips (when the moon hit's your eye like a big pizza pie, that's amore!) ;) I found the cookie tasted like white chocolate more than custard. But it was still very good and the rice crackers were great. I didn't really like the puffed mochi. They had a different version in an earlier box and i just don't like the puff part for some reason. I will admit the coating on this one was very tasty so it was confusing. Good taste, unpleasant/weird texture.
every time you guys do a Bokkusu video it makes me want to subscribe! you're amazingly effective spokespersons (and in Justin's case, spokespup!)! i love how all the stuff you were showing was like little boutique makers and then suddenly… Calbee pizza chips. :D THOSE i can get here already (living in Los Angeles has its perks!) but the rest… oof all so yummy looking! gonna have to go load up on snacks today!
Dude...when you guys talked about seeing a rabbit shape in the moon and being unable to unsee it after finding it my jaw dropped! Ever since I was in my young teens I noticed an animal shape in the moon but no one else believed me! Not a rabbit mind you but a cats face but ever since then I couldn’t unsee it lol 😅 🌙 🐈 🐇
This video was so much fun. I received my Bokksu box a few days ago and my son and I are enjoying trying all the treats. I subscribed to Bokksu because I watched you try the summer box and I found it so interesting. The round donuts are like the timbit donuts we have here at Tim Hortons which is a well known coffee and donut shop. Take good care 🇨🇦
The Bokksu website also sells the snacks individually, so if you can't find an item at the store, you might try their website. I haven't tried it yet since I would need to buy nearly $100 worth of items in order for it to be worth the time and money, but maybe it's not as bad if it''s local. The Monaka, the Kinako Puffs, and the adzuki beans were my favorite, though pretty much all of them were very good.

I'm originally from Myanmar and we have that story and belief of the rabbit in the moon but its existence is also somewhat associated with the poverty-stricken situation in the country because adults often tell their children to look at the moon and ask the rabbit if it can give them a bowl of rice seasoned with cooking oil and salt.
I know,right?! I saw the sad yet still ever- hopeful look he was giving Shinichi,as he was eating the senbei cracker,and I kept thinking,awww,please give him a small taste too! Poor puppy! But hopefully, he got a nice doggo treat instead, because he is such a sweet,good boy,and just as wonderful as both of his owners!
