Several comments here comparing this car with the Tesla Model 3 (or Y) Performance. There is no question that the Hyundai is a better handling track-focused car than the Model 3P, more fun to drive and, to some people, better looking . But there are some reality tests. Its big and very heavy (2.2 tonnes) and consumption is monstrous - 24 kWh/100 km. That will have the biggest impact when it is used as a daily driver. I have owned a 2019 Model 3P for 5 years and 110,000 km and have averaged under 15 kWh/100 km. Its just as quick off the line as the Hyundai, but probably slower round a technical track. How often is that going to matter? In the end these vehicles get used mostly for work travel, shopping, family trips, taking kids to sportsdays - all the mundane aspects of daily life. If you factor in the lower cost higher efficiency and convenience of charging I think I'd still buy the Tesla.
Out of the cars you compared with the *5 N,* there's none that I'd chose. *Hyundai have not just broken the mold for EV's. They smashed to pieces.* And to top it all, if you ever see one of these in red, think *_Lancia Delta Integrale._* _And that was a car I lusted over!_ 8-))...
I would wait a few years before buying one to let the dealer network come up to speed on maintaining them. I’ve had my two month old ioniq in at a dealer for a warranty issue for almost a month now with still no sign of getting it back anytime soon. I expressed concern to Hyundai head office before dropping it off about the dealers ability to fix it and they told me that they were a blue star highly trained EV dealer. Shame because the car seemed pretty good but if it’s a month plus whenever something goes wrong why would you buy it?
You would think it would be even quicker given the power rating. If you take a 2016 Mercedes A45 for example. 382BHP and 0-60 in 3.7 seconds, so the same in a similar size car with 4WD.
Wait till the new m3p for 90k is released next week 😂. This is cool, just hard to justify 110k+ on a small hatch, even if it's great. Looks great and goes hard. Not sure about the fake noises tho. Let's see what the new m3l is like
No model 3 p will be 90k... it will not have tyr track warranty either, the brakes will fade after 1 lap... Tessa does not have the facilities hyundai has in Germany and in South Korea
First off, this car isn’t a small hatch, it’s actually kinda big. By the time you get an m3p on road with the options you want it’s not going to be 90k. The $111k for this includes everything. The ionic 5 n is less boring, keeps going lap after lap and has good suspension. I know where I’d put my money.
@@ReapZ1373 By all accounts all things the new ludicrous m3p has sorted. I'm not saying the m3p is better yet, we really have no idea what it will actually drive like, but we do know it will have 461kw, weigh 1854kg, adaptive suspension, new big brakes, 80kwh pack, 528km wltp range, 261kph top speed, Pzero tires. We know this because these are the specs as per the euro regulations. It will be cheaper, longer range and faster though, that's a pretty hard thing to overcome off the bat. That 111k for the 5n is before on roads too, so more like 120k on the road. The M3L might even scrape into the $89330 lct threshold in which case it's a slam dunk, makes like a 60k car in the real world for those lucky enough to be on a lease. The 5n looks to be brilliantly engineered and I'm glad other manufacturer's are doing their actual best to make it worth the money, still very expensive though, they can both be true.
@@ReapZ1373what options? Barely any options by Tesla compared to a huge range of options with Hyundai. The stamp duty will also be far higher with the N. Your comparison is insincere at best.
111k is nuts. That aside, the replacement costs on the batteries for even minor damage for these Hyundai and Korean EVs are eye watering. They can run 90k+
@@afrikengunner it was a typo. Should have been 60k. The insurance usually writes off the car. I love how EV zealots so wrapped up in things defending their magical machines.

$110k when new , now i can see some dealer demo going for $90K. In another 2 years , they might go for $60K Better wait due to the really fast depreciation.
@CarExpertAus if money wasn't an issue to BUY, which car would be your favourite most fun and practical N car you would want to own personally? this or the i30N or Elantra N? please factor in daily, weekend track attack, liveability, cost of ownership (including insurance) and resell value.
Paul, great review and it sounds like an amazing car. But I have to ask why is it so rare that you see any electric cars made by Hyundai or Kia on the road, and yet you see tons of Teslas? I think it is still that Huyndai and Kia are not serious about supplying our market in any proper way. And the price of the N at some $111K says it all. Similarly the Mach e Mustang GT at $115K is a silly amount of money. The MG4 XPower is only $60K, that is a big difference. And I bet for most punters the XPower would be more than enough in terms of how fast it is. If you wanted to get it to handle better, and have better brakes, you would get plenty of change out of $5K I bet, and still have saved yourself some $46K on the N.
They should take it to MT panorama on Bathurst day up against a GTHO give the Ford half a lap head start over ten laps The Hyundai should reel him and see how far technology has come
I don't understand that the Australian government doesn't seem to care about the amount of carbon emission from traditional engine cars. The government should consider offering more subsidies for EVs like other countries.
@@davidjulian8536this is more comparable to a Macan Turbo than a Taycan GT. The Macan Turbo is 0.1 seconds faster accelerating and is a similar size crossover so that's the better comparison. The Macan is more expensive but the Hyundai is more expensive than the Tesla Model Y so it depends on how much you are willing to pay for quality and handling. The Porsche Taycan GT is on another level in terms of price and performance to any other EV on the market

They smashed to pieces.*
And to top it all, if you ever see one of these in red, think *_Lancia Delta Integrale._* _And that was a car I lusted over!_ 8-))...
did you not test the 'manual' mode??
I would wait a few years before buying one to let the dealer network come up to speed on maintaining them.
I’ve had my two month old ioniq in at a dealer for a warranty issue for almost a month now with still no sign of getting it back anytime soon.
I expressed concern to Hyundai head office before dropping it off about the dealers ability to fix it and they told me that they were a blue star highly trained EV dealer.
Shame because the car seemed pretty good but if it’s a month plus whenever something goes wrong why would you buy it?
They now have rear window wiper
With all that said, was it fun?

You would think it would be even quicker given the power rating. If you take a 2016 Mercedes A45 for example. 382BHP and 0-60 in 3.7 seconds, so the same in a similar size car with 4WD.
ever heard of weight?
@@jackcalow2430eh my vf gts does 3.3 and my wife’s m3 g80 does 2.9. It’s just a boat with no range. A gimmick if you will.
No, not the same. This Ionic did 0-100 in 3.57 sec, not 0-60 like you did!
@@Nismodat23 LOL, that was 0-100km, which is 60mph.
Oh no! Did they get rid of the glove box drawer!
Yeah such a dumb clickbait title by CarExpert. I love the Ioniq N but it’s a completely different price category to a Model 3P.
@@ReapZ1373what options? Barely any options by Tesla compared to a huge range of options with Hyundai. The stamp duty will also be far higher with the N. Your comparison is insincere at best.
Good to see that Aussie auto channels are not shy when it comes to calling themselves Experts,
👍 Wow wow !
$74k (real dealer price) vs MY Performance $43k. I think not.
The armrest is so short !
mate, looks great
Where is tank 500 review?
111k is nuts. That aside, the replacement costs on the batteries for even minor damage for these Hyundai and Korean EVs are eye watering. They can run 90k+
Where'd you see 90k for the battery?
111K for the whole car but 90K for a battery? Are you sure and would it not be covered by warranty if faulty or insurance if damaged?
Why r u lying the highest figure quoted in 20k to replace batteries where are u getting 90k?
You are a complete donut.
@@afrikengunner it was a typo. Should have been 60k. The insurance usually writes off the car. I love how EV zealots so wrapped up in things defending their magical machines.
This or the bmw i4? I’m not a revhead but do like a great handling car
Imagine going back to the mid 90s, and telling someone in 30 years you would have an electric Hyundai SUV that did mid 3s, 400k range, and sells for 111k aud. You would be laughed out of the room
nice toy for rich middle age men!
Definitely a high price tag, but looks awesome.
Watch it @ Nurberg
$110k when new , now i can see some dealer demo going for $90K. In another 2 years , they might go for $60K
Better wait due to the really fast depreciation.
Wearing that N-grin while driving ;)
Paul, why do car makers put digital compasses in street cars, l don’t see the point?
@Hyundai, please make the “engine” sound like a Holden 304
he forgot rear centre armrest test!!
@CarExpertAus
if money wasn't an issue to BUY, which car would be your favourite most fun and practical N car you would want to own personally? this or the i30N or Elantra N? please factor in daily, weekend track attack, liveability, cost of ownership (including insurance) and resell value.
No mention of the E-Shift simulated pedals. I was hoping you would talk about it .
We have another video where we go over all those features. Check it out!
Sunroofs should not be available on performance cars. Defeats the purpose.
Manual seats are a win. Less to break and lighter.
I wish I could afford it. I ❤ it.
FANTASTIC
They should take it to MT panorama on Bathurst day up against a GTHO give the Ford half a lap head start over ten laps The Hyundai should reel him and see how far technology has come
I reckon the Ioniq would have him pretty quickly.
Seen them at eastern creek not be able to keep up with a Honda civic 😂
I don't understand that the Australian government doesn't seem to care about the amount of carbon emission from traditional engine cars. The government should consider offering more subsidies for EVs like other countries.
EVs are equally as bad for the environment and not the solution.
Sounds like massive road noise compared to when I watch other reviews. Not sure if it’s this car or a change in recording equipment
Read noise is tyres and sound deadening... performance tyres are always noisy + performance = less weight = less sound deadning
Between this and a Porsche Taycan Turbo S..... 🤔🤔🤔🤔 each have their pro's & cons....
The real choice is between the Taycan or two of these with $150k in your pocket. Seems like a no brainer to me!
Where’s that prototype car that was like a Nissan 240x
Too much red paint, not very classy
You could buy an i30 and i20n. Got to better fun track driving 7-900kg less weight, real engine sounds. Daily one, track the other…
Anyone have an idea on insurance for a male driver in NSW?
So disgustingly sexist
I'd want to be able to option electric seats that don't go as low. My partner and I both sit in different driving positions and getting a car with electric memory seats has been a huge upgrade for us.

3.5 secs Bloody Nora!!!!
Thought it would have much more torque
I like manually adjusting my seat. It makes it easier to find your seating position again after someone else has been driving the car. I can count the clunks back to my position.
