When are people going to realise that you do NOT let your dog off the lead until it has a 99.99% recall every single time. If you can't guarantee that your dog will come to you every time, stop letting them run free. That's why you always train your dog as soon as you bring it home.
@RaveyDavey so what's stopping these people from doing that extra training? I've seen time and again dogs let off lead with absolutely no recall. That's the problem, and then add these people laughing, and it becomes a total fiasco. The first thing I train any new dog that comes into my home is the recall to my really loud whistle, and it's never failed me so far. That's because it's not only loud but sharp, and once it's ingrained, they always remember it because I'll do it randomly just to test them. Training your dogs never really stops it just progresses.
