All that dog needed was plenty of exercise, and not being locked up in a cage for most of the day. I wouldn't be surprised if before training started he had a good run to let off steam!
Graeme is awesome! To households thinking of getting a dog. Please research first. Most dogs require an absolute minimum of an hour of exercise (Jack probably 2 hours) and it takes calm, confident leadership, patience and a sense of humor to survive and thrive through puppyhood.
In 2004, when I was 48, my husband and I adopted the first dog I'd ever chosen myself, as well as the first I'd had in my adult life. I read a couple of books ahead of time about dog training and behavior, and they all said, "Whatever method of training you choose, just be consistent." It made me think of how I'd seen my mother, a trained Montessori teacher, handle kids. The sweet little beagle-boy I wound up with was a lively guy and showed every one of the behaviors Jack displays, because _it's just beagle behavior._ "Chase Me" is their favorite game. They love playing tug-of-war, too, and can get very toothy about it, if you're not _consistent_ about halting the game immediately if they make tooth-to-skin contact. In the end, I'm not sure if I didn't use what I learned from Mama about the Montessori Method just as much as I did other methods. He was a good boy. I miss him.
True. But I sense this family was purely overpowered by the energy of their dog. If they had a different dog, the family might have gotten on with it very well.
If they can get him to play nice, he can get plenty of active romping/playing with the family, some nice walks will help immensely. Agree about hounds. But for any dog, being locked away all the time is just too sad. Jack is so sweet, too. I hope they don’t expect him to just sit in the living room all the time🙏
I’ve learned that a calm demeanour coupled with a firm I MEAN IT aura does the trick. Dogs know when you mean it. They don’t fear you - and you don’t want them to - but give instant respect.
This is a Foxhhound..an amazing breed. One of the most stable minded breeds due to their breed preservation. From watching this video I can tell you that Jack needs more exercise. He needs to get outside and sniffing and tracking. You don’t have to hunt him..but let him do what comes natural to him. The rest is just obedience training.
Shutting him in a cage isn't a good solution at all. The dog is clearly understimulated. When are people gonna start choosing dogs that fit their lifestyles instead of going on looks!?
What does that mean? Dogs are part of the family - this family had no clue on training the poor dog - they haven’t really got the time for this working breed of dog
@mellissamaynard7340 they are not part of the family. If you can't trust the creature with your children how are they part of the family. Matter of fact they are property not family
Young couples with no experience or little experience with dogs should get an older dog (small/medium) from a shelter that is already well behaved. You need to learn how to care for other beings other than your own before taking on a puppy. Puppies aren't just a play thing. They are a baby animal that requires love and attention too.
It's not easy to get a dog from a shelter 😕 I've looked into it, as we're an older family with someone at home all the time, ideal for an older dog, but because we've not had a pet before we don't have a vets reference, and if you don't have that then you can't adopt 🫤
Also, many older dogs are in shelters because they have behavioral issues just like Jack. Sometimes that’s not immediately obvious. Many dogs are in and out of rescues because of these problems.
@@MargaretUKodd, must be where you are. There's no such requirement here. I've adopted 3 dogs and 3 cats and never been asked for a reference and our rescues are pretty good.
@@dawnj2360 I'm glad that you have been able to adopt dogs and cats, and all credit to you for doing that. There just aren't very many rescue centres where I live, so there is nowhere nearby that will allow it 😒
Why do people their dogs in Crates in their household?😰. That absolutly not fair! It‘s terrible for the dogs. But because they don’t give them not, what they need, they have Problems and so the dog is terrified from his owners. The good point is: the Family want to change this crazy situation.
Beagles/hounds are not the easiest dogs to train in inexperienced hands from what I have observed, though I have never had one myself. Dogs don't come pre-programmed with how to behave, they need time, teaching. patience and love. Sad for the dog to spend so much time in the pen. The parents look worn out with 4 kids and a dog that needs plenty of exercise. I think they only learned elementary discipline in this session - hope it works out.
Were the kids allowed to torment the dog when they were babies and toddlers??? Kids need to be trained as well. This is a hunting breed and get terribly frustrated not being able to hunt and search for birds or whatever they're trained to hunt. Research people!!!! . Never the animals fault EVER!!!!
I'm sure the producers goad many of these people into acting a bit more clueless than they are. Even so, I'm surprised at just how poorly equipped some people are to deal with pets. Dogs just aren't that complicated.
I'm 52 years old and I will never understand why people put up with this crap 😡 listen to yourself you said you can't trust it with the kids. Yet you keep it. Very telling stuff. Tells me loud and clear you don't value your children.
Oh, SURE he does. But he’s working with what he can do. What’s he supposed to do? They already HAVE these dogs. He’s not the one picking them out. Or recommending them for that matter. It’s not his fault people don’t pick the right breed for their lifestyle. Unfortunately, that’s a HUGE problem. The girl in a small house with the Husky comes to mind. “Oh, but he was so CUTE”🤦♀️
Graeme really speaks dog! Amazing that simple communications to the dog get such quick and amazing results!
All that dog needed was plenty of exercise, and not being locked up in a cage for most of the day.
I wouldn't be surprised if before training started he had a good run to let off steam!
This is such a good dog. Very nice temper. Just not understood...
Great. Get a dog without thinking, mess him up and then dump a "difficult dog" somewhere else.... Thank Heavens Graeme came to the rescue.
The dog just thought it would be a game.

So many hugs for Graeme !!! Yet again he has brought out the best in a beautiful dog and a family.
Jack reminds me of my hound when he was young. He’s 11 now and much calmer
11 lol sometimes you just got to wait him out, eh? Lol
Well done Greame a happy ending for the dog and the family. 🦮🦮🦮👍🏻
This is the "dog whisperer" of the UK!
It always amazes me that people don’t do their homework regarding breed specifics before getting a dog, pure irresponsibility!!🙄

Another misunderstood dog. Why oh why don't people do their homework before they get an animal of any kind but good on them for asking for help.
Ill try this being calm and stern. I wish we got a follow up though.

Now Jack is part of the pack. Good lad.
Stunning this is so encouraging

This actually sad news on dog house 😢😢 my dogs never done that to us 😢😢😢
You got that breed to help with anxiety? Didn't research before buying huh?
I don’t understand why people get a dog and not expect it to be some work
Dog imprisoned in its own home. Great

As if it was that easy 🤣🤣
Yes! Found this bizzare.
So he just needed to say "stop it" in a controlled voice?
That dog seemed to have been conditioned to "stop it"
I call bull
😀😀😀😀😀
This dog seems like another child seems to want this guy's attention
Poor dog is better off being rehomed with a couple who actually like dogs .

Beating around the bush!, it's a HUNTING breed!!!! Needs to run and get that energy out. This trainer doesn't get it either!!!

A size 9 wherethe sun dont shine might have helped
So you are advocating for kicking the dog?
