Radiohead - Sail To The Moon [Glastonbury 2003]

- Radiohead, at Glastonbury Festival in 2003, playing "Sail To The Moon".
By 2003 most people had accepted the idea that it was no longer possible to crash the festival and hence it is recognised as one of the most successful years to date. The number of tickets available to the public was increased slightly over 2002, partially in response to criticism that the 2002 festival was underpopulated and lacked atmosphere. The tickets sold out within one day of going on sale, in marked contrast to the two months it took to sell a similar number in 2002. It was also the first year that tickets sold out before the full lineup was announced.
This was also the year Radiohead returned to headline the Pyramid Stage.
Revenue raised for good causes from ticket and commercial licence sales topped £1 million, half of which went to Oxfam, Greenpeace and Water Aid.
"And in the flood, you'll build an ark and sail us to the moon."
For those who don't know, Thom wrote this song for his son, who's called: Noah. =)
No shit ? Thats adorable
Channel Fee Yeah right!
Gui Porto he really did write this for his son.
Holy fuck, he has a son?!
@@nikkoXmercado and he's 18 now i guess
he has the most amazing male voice I've ever heard. impossible to imitate. Female voice goes to Bjork

same for me
@@iwnl_valeThom Yorke's voice 1997-2005 > Dimash
Yes, this WAS written for Noah Yorke.....and it's got to be one of the most beautiful songs ever written. The lyrics, the piano, Jonny's magic guitar. Not sure there is anything more perfect than this, right here.
crap, I never knew that. That's the sweetest thing ever, im gonna fuckin cry
Ed's guitar is my favorite thing
In my top five of Radiohead's songs.
No wonder it says “or in the flood, you’ll build an arc.” It’s for Noah, his son. 😌❤️
Ed’s guitar is out of this world on this one
his voice is unbelievable.
its most unbelievable in the 90s, young and powerful
Apparently, this song came about because Jonny called Thom a poor musician. So, Thom sat at his piano for days and came up with the chords for this song. It's weird because Jonny's guitar and Thom's piano work mesh together so well in this song.
invent
tbh the chords are not that complicated...the magic is in the time signature which keeps changing in the intro and then goes to 4/4 in the verse and the ability of Radiohead to make it flow naturally without forcing these complicated signatures
This song is very under-rated. I would rank it in Radiohead's top five
insane take but maybe a solid argument
@@Halochoker definitely not an insane take most of my favorite songs are in hail to the thief yet in rainbows being my favorite album.
Totally a masterpiece I can’t even rank it
Most underrated Radiohead song
Nooo,.one of their best,..a typical Radiohead song
That would be let down
@@jackqtvsstuff715let down isn’t underrated
This is some serious fucking shit, not many bands come close to define a feeling as much as radiohead do.
Dear God that is sublime. -there is no sound musically better than Radiohead on their day.
I love Thom's faces when he's singing
Totally lost in music.no feeling like it.just awesome
Ed’s guitar work on this is out of this world.
This song is pure euphoria to the ears. Absolutely entrancing. Cue "Radiohead phase"
This song was released one day before I was born :') Radiohead is the best band ever. Their music is stunningly, absolutely beautiful.
I remember being 13 years old, and buying this album because I liked "There There" and thought the cover art was really cool. Little did I know I purchased one of the best albums of all time by one of the greatest bands of all time. I became a radio"head" so to speak and they heavily influenced my music and so much in life. :)
This is the kind of song that's so perfect, it pisses me off because I know I'll never be able to write something as perfect as it.
Just be glad you're alive to be around to listen to it.
Not with that attitude you won't.
You just have to try.
Thom probably feels the same way about other songs all the time.
ed creates an amazing atmosphere in this song one of my favs of hail to the thief
This pyramid shot around 1:50 gave me chills...something suspended in time, between life and death, an ominous glimpse of the eternal.
cringe
hauntingly beautiful
Best song I've ever heard in my life...
you can tell he just knows he's written a masterpiece
So true
Without doubt one of their best songs, much like Pyramid Song in its atmosphere.
I've started learning piano just to play radiohead. i so far only know this and videotape and ive been playing for three
Max Dunbavin try Last flower
minutes?
Think it will have to be played at my funeral one day
it's just amazing how he can look like he's joking around and smiling while still producing THE MOST BEAUTIFUL voice that just takes you somewhere else
I don't know how to express how much I love this song, every time I listen to this song I feel am dead already and there is only chills of pleasant and mystry of Moonbeam in which I am only a mist dust,am greatfull to Radiohead for ever creating such an immense euphoric masterpiece ..
“Maybe you’ll be president but know right from wrong” - chills every time on this lyric and the musical phrasing of it
Incredible voice :-)
Goshhhh....everything is so perfect in this song. And Ed's notes are sublime.
I sucked the moon
I spoke too soon
And how much did it cost
I was dropped from Moonbeam
And sailed on shooting stars
Maybe you'll
Be president
But know right from wrong
Or in the flood
You'll build an Ark
And sail us to the moon
Sail us to the moon
Sail us to the moon
*This song was written as an ode to Thom Yorke's son, hence the line "You could grow up to be president, but know right from wrong."*

Simply beautiful.
This song and "How to Disappear Completely" are so calming. I love to listen to them after a long, agonizing day.
It's a great recording. I dare say the best version of the song too.

Knowing why he wrote this explains why my son loves it so much...
Love you so much guys...
amazing time signature changes in this song. really good song. one of my fav songs by my no.1 band.
Perfect Song, My Favorite of RADIOHEAD..
I find this song to be a definition of musical art and genius, it is its core and source...I can't explain why, this mellow feeling, the piano, smooth guitar, Thom's voice and lyrics just make this song so goddamn artistic!
Thom and Johnny are only true loves of my life ♥
cabecinha de rádio.
great change of pace in the set :)
Masterpiece
Beautiful, beautiful song.
feeling under the water
truer words were never spoken -spoke? Wrote? Truer words were never wrote. (ok, written, whatever!)
Almost every single song on every single Radiohead album is gold - you're right about that... and the world is better off for this band and their music, our friends
I definitely agree with all comments below. I recently really, deeply listened to Hail to the Thief and it has been my top Radiohead album for some period now. Its gorgeous and even that word can never put into words what it really is.
My soul pitter patters so heavily whenever I hear them play..especially heavily drawn to Thom's vocals like the most amazing feeling holding in my breath like it will be my last.
LOVE LOVE THEM SO...
DAM the passion in his eyes at the end....just omg no words to describe the level of grace in that performance :o
I agree, cheers!
I actually felt like sailling to the moon

You can tell Thom really enjoys playing this song... look at him kinda smile towards the end haha. Shit id love to play that song too...especially if i made it. This song gives me chills. I choked up when i saw them play this...the performance is so beautiful. No one compares or even comes close to Radiohead!
Honestly when I close my eyes and listen to this song, it's like your a piece of molten plasma traveling through the universe connected to everything.
Awesome. Pyramid Song pt. 2.
10 ans plus tard toujours aussi magique!!!! elle est cultissime celle chanson !
this is so good
how can such a sad song make u feel so good...
i love how this song sucks you in and takes you to a different world. easily in my top 5 radiohead songs
If you have never been on mushrooms or MDMA to this song. You just before you die.
Not that you need it but it's a magical experience.
Perfect.
I miss the days as well😭😭😭
obra de arte
Magical
The best band, the best song at the best venue in the world.
that is just beautifulness...not even a word, I don't even care
Every Single Time Thom Yorke goes balls out on every gong. Why Radiohead is in my top 3 of all time. Great example in a great song.
god damn GOD DAMN
I'm not joking about the note, at 3.49 he plays a D, he should play a D-sharp, it's not on the cd, it doesn't fit in the last chord he plays, I think that note hurts in his ears, but I could be wrong about his emotion, maybe he is just touched by the song. One of the best songs ever...
This song was written as an ode to Thom Yorke's son, hence the line "You could grow up to be president, but know right from wrong."
Step 1 : open gta San Andreas
Step 2 : pick yourself a nice jet-ski
Step 3 : wait for the night
Step 4 : Play Radiohead's Sail to the Moon
Step 5 : drift
Works with Silent Hunter 4 too.
No jet ski though, just a submarine.
Improvise, adapt, overcome.
At least you're the Captain.
@@colonelflagg9669 GOOD.
Yup... and so is There There.
El mejor concierto de Radiohead
I can easily imagine Thom singing this song to his son as a bedtime song.
se lo ve tan feliz a thom
thom looks so happy here
this song pretty much drains all optimism out of me, but I love it so.
Geeniiaal! hail to the thief
Godlike.....
THOM THOM THOM....aaaaaaaaaaaaa have no words any more, only emotions! ) he smiles at the end of the song...mmmm, I like his smile
Look at the way Thom is smilin. He knows this song is da ish!!!!
he's playing with his son's picture on the piano...that's would be enough to create that incredible performance, but he's a genius so it becomes "fucking special"!
i'd have a huge smile on my face too if i helped write a song like that.
Thom sounds like a beautiful wailing ghost my god
