    I would have missed you blokes by about a week in the Flinders, and it looks like you found some way better tracks than I did, I might have to get some tracks from you before I go again.

      Yeah, in hindsight, we should have camped at Mt Finke but we got there around ~3pm so had a lot of time to spare. We didn't actually realise that the sand continued past it and it actually got harder, so we should have stayed instead of making the push to Kingoonya which made that a very, very long day haha!

    Great vid/trip and awesome memories. Now for the Simpson! What Yamaha is that you are on? Like the strom waiting in the garage and I’ve got an older one and did Simpson on a wr450f, but don’t find it as good with the small oil capacity for big trips like yours

    Epic adventure! Just wondering what the regulations are for lighting in downunder. Your headlights seem pretty weak for night riding... high powered lights not allowed? Or your bikes dont have nuff juice to power up a larger LED maybe?

    Looked like a great ride guys.
    FYI, there are heaps of sand tracks to ride between Melbourne and Googs track.
    Murray Sunset np, big desert, little desert, the border track etc.
    I know it was your aim to challenge yourselves on googs, but the above
    May have been good practice.
    I also think you were too loaded up for the sand.
    Just advice, not criticism.
    See you on the trails 😎

    • @AusMoto
      @AusMoto  Рік тому

      Yeah, we’d been out to Little Desert once before but it’s hard to get out there because still quite a long way away.

Also just like to say a big hello to your Bro. You guys are so lucky to be able to do this together. Keep up the good work and love the new drone. I may get one at some point. Great video Josh. Well done! I notice neither of you had any sort of wind protection (wind screen) on your bikes. Do you regret this at all? You certainly covered a lot of distance at 100kph. I'm planning a big trip on my 300L and I DON'T want to put a screen on like you guys. Am I mad?

    • @AusMoto
      @AusMoto  Рік тому +1

      Thanks Leigh!
      We both used to rock windscreens but both had damaged them on various rides previous to this one, so we decided not to run them. Especially on the 250l, when dropped in the sand, the extra pressure on the front cowling when digging into the sand/mud caused it to snap multiple times.
      You feel more wind on your chest for sure, but it’s manageable. The only thing that sucks is bug splatter on your phone/navigation but other then that it’s fine!

      @AusMoto  11 місяців тому +1

      Thanks heaps mate!
      They did pretty well for little 250s. I think a trip like this is probably best suited for a middleweight ADV bike, as there was lots of HWY and open dirt roads. The trade off is that you'll struggle more through the sand on a heavier bike, but definitely doable.
      If I did it again though, I wouldn't hesitate to do it on the WR and I plan to use it for the Simpson crossing next year which is a similar trip.

    my LAWD! Absolutely amazing and that's it, I'm selling my KX 250F and getting a CRF 450RL. I don't do many track days anymore and the RL will handle the trails I ride. I could tell that there weren't enough words to describe the joy and fun yall were having. That ride home had to be brutal. That was a great video bud
    Question: Will you be making a vid on the maintenance practices yall did while on the road? Or was It just basic maintenance and mostly worry free? I only ask because I was told that an oil change is needed every 600 miles on a dual sport bike, but that seems a little excessive. Since I will likely be joining the dual sport world in the near future I am about to be doing a lot of research and question asking.

    • @AusMoto
      @AusMoto  Рік тому +1

      Thanks Dave!
      I wish they sold the RL here in Australia, because I probably would have bought one, they look like a great bike!
      I probably won't because it was just very basic, cleaning, lubing and adjusting chains. For the CRF, you'll need to change the oil more often then on something like a WR250R/CRF250L which have long service intervals, so it wasn't something we had to consider on this trip.

      @@AusMoto Yeah it's weird to see all the different models but for some reason each country has their say so on what comes in and what doesn't.

      Mate I did the Simpson on a 450 Yamaha and that was two oil changes starting and finishing at Marree. Should have been three really and mine holds 1.1 lt of oil. It’s the downside of these bikes and probably why so many like DRz. Chain lube is tricky in sandy situations and daily checks, even twice daily if you drop them. Rad guards pay for themselves very quickly.

      Hard to ride around the world when you got a job that’s not UA-cam champ.
      I’d consider 4300km’s in 9 days with a lot of off-road, a big ride in my books.
