Revolut is brilliant! We used it the first time 7 years ago when travelling to Africa and now we have changed all our banking over to them since they are a registered Bank in Ireland. Awesome video. Enjoyed all your advise! Thank you!
How is their customer support of Revoluut? I have Wise but I've heard from people this company can block your account out of nowhere like PayPall and there is pretty much zero support.
Fantastic Video ! I agree with 99% of your summary and suggestions, but i also make sure i have purchased good quality travel/health insurance, cost very little for a year of global travel, maybe £100, I recommend this, and always share details with my travel companion.
That depends on where you come from, what your normal insurance covers and most important where you are travelling to. In addition what level of care and treatment you expect. €100 a year insurance isn't going to help if you need medivac and a brain surgeon in a lot of countries even inside the EU.
On a motorcycle you always have variables in weather, crowds, breakdowns, road closures. Hell you might get tired and need to rest. Don't get frazzled out. Be nice, it's best way to travel. Good vid Robert.
We just shipped our bikes from USA to Germany. We pick them up on May 5th. We don’t really have any real plans. But we do want to mostly explore Eastern Europe. Ride BMW 800’s. Not looking for hard off-road routes but back country dirt. My husband and I are very excited and plan to ride for about 4 to 5 months. Watching your videos before we arrive.
We'll maybe see you there :) We're leaving UK on 9th May and travelling through 26 European countries over next 3 months. ua-cam.com/play/PLRap4_AtqOhX1lgf3PU812dq_FLFWI10i.html
Excellent video and very helpful. Doing my first UK to Pyrenees via France trip in July and kept thinking I wasn't prepared. Not now though, more than prepared it seems and I can just focus on the fun.
Indeed exciting traveling on new countries. There is a lot of planning and logistics and of course financial steps. First thing and most important,,, the bike prep and the second most,,,in my case, shipping and entry. And that is where the adventure begins. Stay safe and enjoy!😊
An open mind is most important, as you said, Robert. Someone gave my his piece of advice. After the first draft od your plan - half the miles - double the time. Travelling in Europe is easy and so rewarding, because there are so many cultural (and scenic) differences within a short distance. And always people around to help you. Have a great season, Günter/Nürnberg
@@davidmatthews3093Experienced riders who have travelled a lot like you David would not need Robert's advice ;-) Fact is that many riders pack too much into their trips. That's what I wanted to point out. Günter/Nürnberg
I traveled Europe etc for 3 1/2 months from OZ. Bought a bike in the UK, took off each day and at 2pm would look for accommodation within 150km. It was great not being locked in to something at the start of each day, adding unnecessary stress 🍻
Oje Thing I'd add is to find like-minded people to travel with. It's nice to travel alone sometimes, but I did UK > Spain and back, and the NC500, and at times missed having some company. Yeah you can meet people, but having a friend there is always nice.
I’ve got a trip planned through Germany, Slovenia, Croatia & Italy this June, traveling from Australia for about 3 weeks & renting a bike. I have a rough plan, a route to follow but nothing else really. Plan to camp where possible but this is how i travel here. I love the freedom it gives, things happen, plans change, try to go with the flow and try not to overthink things. Thanks for your tips Robert
This was great , we do most of it especially the loose plan ,works much better though this was from having been more specific before and it was too much like hard work, great video thank you
Travelling in Europe is definitely not a chore, I shipped my DR 650 from Australia to the UK in 2023 and spent a month in the UK the a month heading for Romania through France and Switzerland, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary, then Romania and back to Croatia where I left my bike in storage. I will be back in May 2024 to head the the IOM with no plan so far as which way to go, I have 3 weeks to get from Zagreb to the UK, no planned route, so via France along the Med and up through the guts or via Germany up to Norway and back down is the part I haven’t decided yet. My main way of travel is to avoid toll ways and stick to back roads, allow plenty time for a change of destination, mainly due to weather, rainy days are just not fun, especially when camping. If you live in Europe there is nothing to stop you from travelling, living in Australia is great, lots of riding to be had and sights to see but 90% of the country is desert and I am not a big fan . 😂😂😂😂 Definitely don’t over plan a trip just go with the flow.
I'm curious why you sent your bike over there rather than get one locally. Is it hard to buy and register one there, not being a citizen? Are bikes more expensive? Maybe yours is special to you?
@@SoulpowerMSRS My DR is my baby, it was used as a courier bike for 6 years and has done a few trips in Australia so has been set up to suit me, no to mention it has done 300,000 Klms, so to say that is special would be an understatement, it is a bike I will never sell so to add touring around Europe is just another reason to keep it. I would have preferred to have taken my 2005 DR 650 which has 500,000 klms but it is not registered, it is another bike that will never be sold, sadly registration costs in Australia are expensive so having 3 bikes and a car is around $2800 a year. My DR is financially worth nothing, it is just has sentimental value, every time it is ridden it is special and I appreciate what the bike has been through, I rode it 5 days a week, 52 weeks a year and it never let me down.

Great presentation! Always enjoy your videos. Seems we agree on most of the traveling topics you've covered. Only, I have a tendency to plan out everything: the routes, hotels, resting days, POI's, etc. (I'm a bit of a nerd, that way). I'm coming to Sweden this summer (do a little bit of the TET) and you've inspired me to take the more loose 75/25 system you suggested. I always take an extra day every 3 or 4 days for resting, laundry, bike maintenance and exploring the country I'm visiting but your approach leaves even more room for (unplanned) adventure. Although, as I'm traveling alone, I'd rather have as little problems on the way as possible. 😄
I do a lot of organized club rides. It costs a little more, but they provide support, usually feed you, and your automatically with ppl of like mind. Some of my most memorable times is when i break down. I spend time with ppl of similar interest, and we talk, build friendships, and share resources. Join a club or go with a small group; the story and conradery are worth it
if you didn't know ... if your phone supports esim's you can use Airalo you can have internet in over 200 countries you don't have to go anywhere you always get a local number
Such sane and common sense advice! Matches my European moto travel experience perfectly, including Revolut, Google drive, maps etc. Well, except for the "strict plans" part :)) I have booked 1 month of hotels in advance before. To be honest, I do find myself wanting to "wing it" a lot more often lately and that seems to work out fine as well. I have a plan for June that starts exactly with the eastern Romanian TET segment in your video, quite excited about that! Anyways, thanks for putting this together.
You should check out the new “Tusk” 2 track adventure tire. Got one on the rear and love it and it’s an inexpensive tire. Approx $140.00 US for a 150-70-18. I ride a 2021 T7 as well! If you ever make it to the USA I would love to show you the Appalachian mountains of Western North Carolina. Blue ridge parkway, Cherahola skyway and the “Tail of the dragon”. Great dirt, great pavement. Keep up the great work.
Top tip for ATM's, many European countries post offices also have ATMs ( often yellow branding) and they generally dont charge a fee for cash unlike the banks. Other bank cards that don't charge fees overseas include Monzo and Starling 👍
All good tips especially if everyday is a Saturday. Pensioner travel plans. Keep an open mind and even more open agenda, or nothing at all. Enjoy. It's a big world. See what you can. It's all new and interesting.
I live in Stockholm and have a Bonneville T120 but I’m scared of going solo for so long. I’m terrible at fixing mechanical things 😅 Would be lovely to travel to the Alps every year, maybe one day 😊
Lovely bike! As long as your service schedule is up to date and you can adjust and oil your chain you'll be fine. On a bike your never really on your own. Other bikers almost always will stop and chat or help if needed. There are some lovely shorter tours from Stockholm that are worth a go to build you confidence. Good luck! Paul
Start off my going to Dalarna over a weekend, next month go to Härjedalen, next month go to Värmland. Your bike is fine and most mechanical things can be fixed with WD40 and duct tape if it’s been serviced well. Go explore, it’ll be grand
Great video, as always Robert. Question: given your very-loose-plans strategy, do you ever experience difficulty finding accomodation, and how far into the afternoon/evening do you leave it before you start looking?
We always find something. We book around lunch but sometimes later. We let the acommodation we find decide where we go. Always used booking.com and always found something
Thanks for sharing these insights. Great timing. I am actually going to leave southwards (from Hamburg) on my Africa Twin next week. Rough plan is to do three stages of the ACT Croatia and then get on a boat to Italy. I was not aware of the creation of My Maps, so I will start doing this tonight 🙂 Only downside, I will need to go on the highway to get there as time is limited, but I might change plans if it gets too bad.
@@NordicAdvRider Yes, this is a great option. The schedule of the trains do not fit into my schedule next week. I will test the long Autobahn trip and might consider the train on my way back. Thanks for the good suggestion.
Hi Robert. I'm aiming arrive to Nordkapp from Barcelona in my Naked Honda. Trip begins in 2 weeks. Glad to see I'm matching most of ur advices. On the way back I will enter Sweden from Haparanda towards Copenhagen. Any suggestion of "must to see" in ur country? No need of big cities, seeking for those hidden magic places. And please have mercy hahah, the Honda wear just regular Battlax Sport-Touring tyres. Love ur videos. Thanks.
I go on my own every year on the tet france etc. can be a bit lonely but it’s awesome. Petrol garages every where nice camps or hotels and last year I used a few air bnb’s. Tbh if you have the money you don’t even need to camp.
I am a Swede, and have also been there, done that, many times. Except that i have no friends that want to go. They think 50 km round town is enough. Now i am beginning to loose the will to go, always traveling alone eventually takes the edge from it.
the loose plans idea seems quite reasonable but what about hotels and other lodgings in europe - do you have to book them in advance or are they always sort of available in all parts of the year? and if you do have to book them then don't you have to have a more or less structured plan in place? or are you only talking about mostly camping trips?
I have everything I need, the bike, the gear, the time but I don’t have any friends to go with. Much as I love my alone time I just don’t fancy a decent trio with a lot of trails on my own…
Really cool video! I am also from Sweden, and am getting my motorcycle license in time for the summer. Do you have any tips on how to find like minded people to go on trips with? None of my friends ride motorcycles, but it would be very fun to go on an adventure riding trip!
Kul att du är på gång med hojjen. Jag skulle gå med i grupper på Facebook. Kika efter evenemang där du kan lära känna folk, eller ställ bara frågan rakt ut om folk i ditt område äe sugna på lite gruppåka.
Ah should have mentioned hotels 😊Usually we book in the afternoon the same day. Ex booking.com and we go where there is a room for a good price. Never failed so far. Sometimes we call the place to check about parking etc. So i would say we don’t plan for hotels.
@@NomadSweden Appreciate it. I've revisited this video a few times now. Its been very helpful for getting myself prepared and not overthinking. Thanks from USA!
Hi Robert - Thank you! Great summary of all you need to do (and not do) for an adventure. Next year, I'll be travelling alone through Europe for the first time on a 700 Transalp for around 4 weeks. I don't intend to camp but will stay in small B&B's / hotels etc (not expensive ones) along the way - how much do you suggest I budget for accommodation / food / fuel? Many thanks again - Steve
Awesome! I like to go east where ot’s also cheap with food and accomodation. If you plan for €100 a day you are well covered. Solo perhaps a little more since we share rooms etc

I do a lot of organized club rides. It costs a little more, but they provide support, usually feed you, and your automatically with ppl of like mind. Some of my most memorable times is when i break down. I spend time with ppl of similar interest, and we talk, build friendships, and share resources.
Join a club or go with a small group; the story and conradery are worth it
True words. Thanks 😊
if you didn't know ... if your phone supports esim's you can use Airalo you can have internet in over 200 countries you don't have to go anywhere you always get a local number
Yes I was ignorant of this but I used it this summer in UK. Thank you
Interesting how you plan a trip and what you need. Good ideas👍
Cheers!
Thanks for the input. We all do it our way and we change all the time. Have a great trip. I envy the Romania plan :)
Nicely done, you have inspired me, thanks.
Awesome 👏🏻
Very informative.tnx a lot❤ from Philippines.
Right in time. I just planed a trip from auatria to Slowenien - croatia- italie and back home to austria for 8 days.
Wunderbar. Gute Reise 👍🏻
My kind of vacation planning 👍
Learning gaia and guru gps apps right now while exploring surrounding areas at the same time 👍
Well spoken !
Sounds awesome! Tusk is not so common here but will look for it. Thanks 🙏
Compelling advice, thanks for delivering in English
Top tip for ATM's, many European countries post offices also have ATMs ( often yellow branding) and they generally dont charge a fee for cash unlike the banks. Other bank cards that don't charge fees overseas include Monzo and Starling 👍
Thanks 🙏
All good tips especially if everyday is a Saturday. Pensioner travel plans. Keep an open mind and even more open agenda, or nothing at all. Enjoy. It's a big world. See what you can. It's all new and interesting.
I live in Stockholm and have a Bonneville T120 but I’m scared of going solo for so long. I’m terrible at fixing mechanical things 😅
Would be lovely to travel to the Alps every year, maybe one day 😊
Try going to Norway first, as a reliability test for your Bonneville. If it works out, go for the Alps next year!
@@SideQuestStijn that’s a great idea 💡
@@paulmullany7147 tell me more about these shorter Stockholm tours :)
Tack från Kiruna 🥶😜!
Very good video thanks for the advices
Glad you liked it 😊
Awesome insights & tips! We have done 2 guided Alpine tours and I have vowed to never do a guided tour again!
Yes going on your own is much more fun :)Cheers
Great video, as always Robert. Question: given your very-loose-plans strategy, do you ever experience difficulty finding accomodation, and how far into the afternoon/evening do you leave it before you start looking?
We always find something. We book around lunch but sometimes later. We let the acommodation we find decide where we go. Always used booking.com and always found something
Nice pep talk and info! And that tool kit bag, were did you find it? Looks neet.🤗
Thanks! enduristan.eu/products/lyndons-organizer-1
Awesome! Have a great trip!
You can take the car/bike train from Hamburg to Innsbruck to avoid autobahn. Takes 8-10 hours
Thanks.
Cheers mate!
brifinglerin harika, teşekkürler 🎉❤
Teșekkürler 😊🙏
I can't leave my country (ua) so hopefully will have ability to travel later
Sorry to hear that. Slava Ukraini
Your young men are being sacrificed by Biden ,..just with the intention of weakening Americas enemy.
Thank you
I go on my own every year on the tet france etc. can be a bit lonely but it’s awesome. Petrol garages every where nice camps or hotels and last year I used a few air bnb’s. Tbh if you have the money you don’t even need to camp.
Thanks for the input
@@NomadSweden when is the hottest time in Sweden ? I would love to do the tet there one day.
I am a Swede, and have also been there, done that, many times. Except that i have no friends that want to go. They think 50 km round town is enough. Now i am beginning to loose the will to go, always traveling alone eventually takes the edge from it.
Show them this video. Hope it helps.
There should be a Tinder app for bike adventures
Great surprise to see Pavlin for a second! 😂
Haha yes he is great to have around
Många bra tips! Kopplingsvajern var smart 👍
😊👊🏻✊🏻
Wonderful 👌
How long have been travelling? You got it right…
6 years now 😊 many to go
the loose plans idea seems quite reasonable but what about hotels and other lodgings in europe - do you have to book them in advance or are they always sort of available in all parts of the year? and if you do have to book them then don't you have to have a more or less structured plan in place? or are you only talking about mostly camping trips?
We book all accomodations the same day we need them depending on we ended up. Didnt fail so far
I have everything I need, the bike, the gear, the time but I don’t have any friends to go with. Much as I love my alone time I just don’t fancy a decent trio with a lot of trails on my own…
That is a personal preference. Personally I like solo too, bit I grt what you mean. Hope you find a group
Hi, great video ,,,SIMPLE. As I say , the plas is that there@s no plan
thanks , Gus
Cheers!
Great video 👍🏻
thank you for this!
Bravo!
Being on the road with a moto since i was 15 I dare to say a little bit of redundacy between you and your pal can give you peace of mind…
Indeed so. Cheers
Wonderful, thats exactly what an adventure should be like :) How do you plan for hotels tho ?
Ah should have mentioned hotels 😊Usually we book in the afternoon the same day. Ex booking.com and we go where there is a room for a good price. Never failed so far. Sometimes we call the place to check about parking etc. So i would say we don’t plan for hotels.
Just watched Thomas Hansen and I see Pavlin, now I see him again, Is he becoming the UA-camMotorcycleAdventure Meme? (Great guy )
Yes Pavlin is a legend a fun guy and a meme. :) He was here before most of us.
12:40 HAHAHAHAAHA, I've watched some of his videos.. And you just nailed what i think of him
😉
Awesome video
With reserving lodging do you just find something the day of, plan, or a bit of both?
We usually book the same afternoon and it has worked well. Never got stranded
@@NomadSweden Appreciate it. I've revisited this video a few times now. Its been very helpful for getting myself prepared and not overthinking. Thanks from USA!
THanks for the feedback. Glad it helped!
Hello, excellent video, what was the make of that tool bag? It's a peach
Cheers. The tool bag is Enduristan Lyndon's organizer. enduristan.eu/products/lyndons-organizer-1
Very usefull thank you so much
Cheers!
Most cellphone carrier (atleast from Sweden) offers free surf (with a slight limit) in non-eu countrys aswell. Might be good to look in to with your carrier instead of turning Roaming off.
Indeed. You get an sms in each country from your carrier about the prices in the new country.
Dont forget pavlin now do videos for earn money and he must make plans and review thinks from sponsors . in past i was enjoing watching his videos was an amateur make it with enjoy . now he is an brand and hi luse point of his simplicity and simpaty at least for me.

hey - great video - thanks for making it. Which apps do you recommend for adventure (non-motorway) routes please? Tak!
Hi! I use DMD2 mostly for offroad. On top of that i sometimes use stegra.io. Both are great for offroading.
"nothing can ruin a trip like a strict plan". I'll have t remember to tell this to my wife.
